For those who are new to Flight Rising april fools and don't want to stress about the event item: it's a cycling chest. FOR NOW, opening it will give you a different color of the same chest, etc. etc. Last year we had two, but there were more colors in the past, but it's a pre-determined cycle. Once the event ends (about 4th 6:00 FR time, but check for dev info on that or keep an eye out on the chest's item database entry), the chest will lock in its current color, and opening it will give you an item that is somehow associated with the color.
That's it! Have a fun and chill april fools!

Ahhh I'm so happy! Some time ago I made a fandragon of Spyro, one of my favorite dragon character from my childhood. Once fr allowed us to make skins for perma babies I know this was my opportunity to complete his outfit.
And here I am! With my first ever made custom accent :D Fr accepted it the first time I sent my order.
I was wondering if anyone would like to get a copy of this accent to make their own Spyro or just because it looks cool enough to have one? Well I'm willing to make a copy for averyone who'd be interested, so you can reach out to me here or on my fr account :)
I can't really say how much would it cost rn, it depends on how many people would want to purchase it :>
There are links directly to the accent: https://www1.flightrising.com/game-database/item/58511
and to my dragon: https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/92694530
EDIT:
Flight rising decided to remove this accent due to duplicating copyrighted material, so it won't be possible to get new copies of it :/

mass pinglists (& moral superiority for not using them)
There's been concern lately over the newest update announcement that at some point, far into the future or at least after New Year's 2024, mass-pinging as a concept will be retired from Flight Rising. On one hand, there's people worried about this.
There's people who are also, frankly, being wildly vitriolic about those who rely on mass pinglists, disbelieving that anybody could ever be affected by mass ping tools shutting down. They're also out here openly calling skinmakers/G1 collectors/dominance organizers delusional for thinking the things they do are in any way, shape, or form, an important part of the site.
Which like, if people don't use user-run tools like GASP or the G1 pinglist, that's fine! That's your playstyle. But I don't understand where the attitude is coming from that the concerned groups are only a 'loud minority', and that they somehow don't contribute massively to the game as a whole. (The same people, by the way, who call G1 collectors & UMA makers a plague upon dragon society for being an elitist rich boy's club, then turn around and say they're not at all a driving force in the site's economy.) Which one is it? You can't have it both ways. Do these people spend thousands whaling for their perfect XXY G1 wildclaws then hundreds buying gem genes for their fancy showoff dragons? Or are they at best a negligible population in the game, whose activity and monetary contributions to the site are far outweighed by the tens of thousands of 'nice, normal, sane' players who log on once a week to hatch a nest and post on forums once in a blue moon?
There's 825 pages of user-made skins on the site right now. At 50 items per database page, that's 41,250 skins. 41,250 skins that had to be submitted with blueprints that can only be bought with gems.
Tumblr media
Let's give these numbers the benefit of the doubt and say each skin was only submitted once, using a 10-print blueprint at 5000 gems, and each accent was only submitted once as well, using a 10-print blueprint at 2500 gems. That's 136,875,000 gems sunk into blueprints - if each individual usermade skin on site has only an average of ten copies on site. (Which is categorically not true, I've had multiple skins print over 300 copies. And I am just one person, and far from the most successful skinmaker on site.)
This is 1,368,750 USD in skin blueprints alone, by the way, using the most barebones and least generous numbers possible. We're not accounting for skins that sell more than one run, or the fact that no skin artist sells their skins to the public at print price (you can add another 30-40% to that number if you want to estimate how much money is actually spent to circulate those skins). Even if none of these artists pay money to buy gems, these gems are coming from somewhere. Even if you, as someone who doesn't care for G1s or never even heard of GASP, never set foot into these places, these gems are still circulating and being sunk into the site. And it helps no one to scoff and say you doubt there's no real impact on anything if all of this goes away.
There's 51k items on the site, and over 80% of them are skins. There's 5k users actively signed up and using GASP - more than the average amount of users logged onto the site at any given point that's not a new breed release or anniversary update.
Are you getting the picture yet? It's not self-absorbed to say that the UMA market has a very real impact on the game economy. It's just numbers.
I need to get my thoughts out about the new mass-ping update somewhere. My thoughts on the actual tool are entirely positive, it's a great change for the site and not one I ever thought I'd see. But there's people worried about the future of tools like the GASP & G1 sales pinglists for very good reason.
I think game economy is a very real concern if you're a dominance participant, a skinmaker, an old dragon collector, a G1 hatcher, an ID hunter, or anyone else whose community relies on mass ping lists. You aren't wrong for feeling this way. I'm sorry people are dismissing very valid concerns about the state of your community out of some misguided 'i don't do this and neither do my friends, so everyone who does must be a loud overexaggerating nitwit' attitude.

Over the coming week I'll be ensuring the configuration for the website hosting is backed up such that I can take the website down this Friday and maybe bring it back up at a later date when money allows.
Because of how hosting on Microsoft Azure works, the most I could do is move the site to a free tier which removes my ability to have background processes such as the discord bot and item fetcher. And is also terribly slow. The only part of the site that will remain working at that point is the skintester and code snippets. But the FR data (genes, breeds, etc) will gradually go out of date whenever there is an update unless I manually run an update from my pc. Item data will not be update live(ish) anymore either. I'll would probably keep the storage and database intact as their cost mostly comes from usage, not existence.
All this though, for an extremely subpar and heavily degraded experience with a lot of functionality nonlonger working. So I'm just going to take the website down, all or nothing I feel is better than removing stuff people have grown accustomed to.
Thank you for those who helped keep the going these past few months, the help has been tremendous but it looks like capitalism wins this battle.
Thank you FR community for letting me make this, for standing by me with understanding and letting me serve you with a helping hand where Flight Rising itself refused.

hey you! are you still using a wimpy, boring, plain spreadsheet to keep track of your LDCC progress? is inputting your notable drops a chore because you don't have a pretty, organized space to log them?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
well, you can try using my long drop coliseum challenge spreadsheet template! access it here and make a copy for yourself to fill out and enjoy! all you have to do is go to file -> make a copy.
Tumblr media
this spreadsheet features a pleasant brown color scheme, an auto-updating percentage of your progress, ready-to-use columns to organize your notable drops, and a sidebar up top to write notes!
Tumblr media
the A, D, G, and J columns are set up to display images of your drops, and next to them you can write their names and your amount. to insert an image of your drop, double-click the cell where you wish to put the image, click between the two quotation marks, and paste the image url! image urls of flight rising items can be found by going to the item's game database page and right-clicking the image.
Tumblr media
so what are you waiting for! i love long drop challenges, even if i tend to skip around. i find that having a good-looking spreadsheet helps make it more fun, and i want to share my setup with anyone else who's interested in this coliseum challenge!

Flight rising truly has spoiled me with the quality of life mechanics I expect with pet sites. I've been playing furvilla again after a 7 year hiatus from making an account in beta and man does this shit suck. Literally what do you mean you don't have obtainment methods in your item database you might as not even have the fucking thing

Hi I left you a long tag essay before I realized you said to send an ask (my bad). But I would love to help with your calculator!
I have a couple ideas on how you could make a sheet or form for user submission, namely I would personally section it by year or section of IDs to hopefully avoid selection bias (people submitting the same popular piece of apparel or popular gene over and over).
If using a form that might have duplicates, you could probably use a combination of SORT, FILTER, and UNIQUE on the submission form results to filter them out, which wouldn't account for typos but might cut some of it back. For allowing people to check which items have been submitted I would make a lookup command using INDEX and MATCH for item names that returns a true or false if it finds that item name.
I also have a huge project spreadsheet myself with data for every gene scroll (as well as gene IDs from the scrying workshop), piece of apparel (most bundles too, I might be missing some), scene, and vista. It has IDs, prices, locations, ingredients, and auto generated game database links and BBCode. For your format it would only be missing Cycling, Retirement, and more specific item Bundle data. I could easily write a concatenate to format it into a more usable string for you with a caveat of maybe having to replace quotes with another character and find-and-replace them later.
Sorry for the length of this ask, I hope it's comprehensible. And I'd be perfectly willing to help with setting stuff up too, I genuinely, seriously love making spreadsheets, forms, and entering data.
I didn't mind the tag essay at all don't even worry about it!!
I really like your ideas (and the fact that you already have a spreadsheet that has most of the necessary info) and frankly if you'd like to help with setting up a sheet for this I would be so very thankful I'm like the one single flight rising player that doesn't like using sheets. also I'm thinking of cutting out retirement data and just putting "unavailable/retired" in "location" instead, just because I wouldn't really get enough use out of the retirement info to justify a whole separate value.
but before starting on the sheet I should probably set up a way to more effectively communicate with people who'd like to help with this project (and also anyone who wants to see the progress). I'm thinking a discord server would be the easiest way to go about it but they stress me out soo bad. will update you all on that when I can I'm just really busy these days. absolutely ideal moment to start a big fucking dragon neopets project am I right fellas

Pgvector: Rise PostgreSQL with Vector Similarity Search
Tumblr media
What is pgvector
With the help of the open-source Pgvector extension for PostgreSQL, you may deal with vectors from inside the database. This implies that you can use PostgreSQL to store, search for, and analyse vector data in addition to structured data.
The following are some essential pgvector knowledge points:
Vector Similarity Search
Enabling vector similarity search is the primary purpose of pgvector. This is helpful for things like recommending products based on user behaviour or content or locating related items. Pgvector provides options for both exact and approximation searches.
Storing Embeddings
Vector embeddings, which are numerical representations of data points, can also be stored using Pgvector. Many machine learning tasks can make use of these embeddings.
Functions with Various Vector Data Types
Pgvector is compatible with binary, sparse, half-precision, and single-precision vector data types.
Rich Functionality
Pgvector offers a wide range of vector operations, such as addition and subtraction, as well as distance measurements (such as cosine similarity) and indexing for quicker search times.
PostgreSQL integration
Since pgvector is a PostgreSQL extension, it interacts with PostgreSQL without any problems. This enables you to use PostgreSQL’s built-in architecture and features for your AI applications.
All things considered, pgvector is an effective tool for giving your PostgreSQL database vector similarity search capabilities. Numerous applications in artificial intelligence and machine learning may benefit from this.
RAG Applications
In order to speed up your transition to production, Google Cloud is pleased to announce the release of a quickstart solution and reference architecture for Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) applications. This article will show you how to use Ray, LangChain, and Hugging Face to quickly deploy a full RAG application on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), along with Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL and pgvector.
Describe RAG
For a particular application, RAG can enhance the outputs of foundation modes, such as large language models (LLMs). AI apps with RAG support can extract the most pertinent information from an external knowledge source, add it to the user’s prompt, and then transmit it to the generative model instead of depending solely on knowledge acquired during training. Digital shopping assistants can access product catalogues and customer reviews, vector databases, relational databases, and customer service chabots can look up help centre articles using the knowledge base. AI-powered travel agents can also retrieve the most recent flight and hotel information from the knowledge base.Image Credit to Google Cloud
LLMs rely on their training data, which may not contain information pertinent to the application’s domain and can rapidly become outdated. Retraining or optimising an LLM to deliver new, domain-specific data can be a costly and difficult procedure. RAG provides the LLM with access to this data without the need for fine-tuning or training. but can also direct an LLM towards factual answers, minimising delusions and allowing applications to offer material that can be verified by a person.
AI Framework for RAG
An application architecture would typically consist of a database, a collection of microservices, and a frontend before Generative AI gained popularity. New requirements for processing, retrieving, and serving LLMs are introduced by even the most rudimentary RAG applications. Customers demand infrastructure that is specifically optimised for AI workloads in order to achieve these criteria.
Many clients decide to use a fully managed platform, like Vertex AI, to access AI infrastructure, such as TPUs and GPUs. Others, on the other hand, would rather use open-source frameworks and open models to run their own infrastructure on top of GKE. This blog entry is intended for the latter.
Making a lot of important decisions when starting from scratch with an AI platform includes choosing which frameworks to use for model serving, which machine models to use for inference, how to secure sensitive data, how to fulfil performance and cost requirements, and how to expand as traffic increases. Every choice you make pits you against an expansive and dynamic array of creative AI tools.
LangChain pgvector
For RAG applications, Google Cloud has created a quickstart solution and reference architecture based on GKE, Cloud SQL, and the open-source frameworks Hugging Face, Ray, and LangChain. With RAG best practices integrated right from the start, the Google Cloud solution is made to help you get started quickly and accelerate your journey to production.
RAG’s advantages for GKE and Cloud SQL
GKE with Cloud SQL expedite your deployment process through multiple means:
Load Data Quickly
Using GKE’s GCSFuse driver, you can easily access data in parallel from your Ray cluster by using Ray Data. To do low latency vector search at scale, load your embeddings into Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL and pgvector efficiently.
Fast deploy
Install Hugging Face Text Generation Inference (TGI), JupyterHub, and Ray on your GKE cluster quickly.
Simplified security
GKE provides move-in ready Kubernetes security. Use Sensitive Data Protection (SDP) to filter out anything that is hazardous or sensitive. Use Identity-Aware Proxy to take advantage of Google’s standard authentication and enable users to login to your LLM frontend and Jupyter notebooks with ease.
Cost effectiveness and lower management overhead
GKE simplifies the use of cost-cutting strategies like spot nodes through YAML configuration and lowers cluster maintenance.
Scalability
As traffic increases, GKE automatically allocates nodes, removing the need for human configuration to expand.
Pgvector Performance
The following are provided by the Google Cloud end-to-end RAG application and reference architecture:
Google Cloud project
The Google Cloud project setup provides the necessary setup for the RAG application to run, such as a GKE Cluster, Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, and pgvector instance.
AI frameworks
Ray, JupyterHub, and Hugging Face TGI are implemented at GKE
RAG Embedding Pipeline
The RAG Embedding Pipeline creates embedding and loads the PostgreSQL and pgvector instance’s data into the Cloud SQL.
Example RAG Chatbot Application
A web-based RAG chatbot is deployed to GKE via the example RAG chatbot application.Image Credit to Google Cloud
Pgvector Postgres
An open source LLM can be interacted with by users through the web interface offered by the example chatbot programme. By utilising the data that is loaded into Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL with pgvector via the RAG data pipeline, it may provide users with more thorough and insightful answers to their queries.
The Google Cloud end-to-end RAG solution shows how this technology may be used for a variety of applications and provides a foundation for future development. With the strength of RAG, the scalability, flexibility, and security capabilities of GKE and Cloud SQL, along with the security features of Google Cloud, developers can create robust and adaptable apps that manage intricate processes and offer insightful data.

We develop Flight Booking Software with the use of globally accepted applications. This engine lets travelers search for global destinations, register and make PNR by making an online payment.
Airline Booking Software (ABS) is online application software used to retain, retrieve information and perform transactions related to air travel.
Originally designed and performed by airlines, ABS was later developed for the use of travel agencies. Global distribution systems (GDS) are the process of book and sell tickets for multiple airlines by the major ABS operations.
The Airlines have regretted most of their direct holdings to dedicated and committed GDS companies, who made their systems accessible to customers through Internet gateways.
Modern GDS is providing services like booking hotel rooms and rental cabs as well as airline tickets. They also provide entry to railway reservations in some areas even if these are not always in touch with the main system.
Our Airline Booking Software is a well-aligned reservation system integrated with global GDS systems including Amadeus, Galileo, and Sabre, which stabilizes the data from all the airlines.
The customized booking engine associated with our special GDS systems gives far superior inventory and rates to the clients and travel organizations.
Global travel organizations are going for online airline reservation applications simply because of 24x7 accessibility and live appointments.
Increasing bookings directly equal to scalable revenues. This can happen when you have an efficient Airline booking software added with a value-added cab and room booking system. Different objective reservations help to set up the fact that your travel site offers huge amounts of highlights.
Being easy to use by the customers depends largely on the fact that you fix an interactive and user-friendly air ticket booking API with additional add-ons of the reliable cab and hotel booking engine.
Whether you are a travel agent and you are doing an airline or hotel booking system, you can upsell various travel features within a matter of time in few clicks.

Big item database revamp!
Phew this took me a while and there are still things left to do (well I'd never finish) but I think it's in an okay shape to replace the old that was in a very sorry state.
One major thing that I wanted to make sure is that the apparel and skin/accent preview mode that I know users appreciate at Kanojo is working. There are also a few improvements:
Use swipe on mobile or arrow keys on desktop to switch between the details of all search results on the page.
While the Item DB has always had next and previous links (those were kept too). You can now swipe or use the keyboard. Wanted to see how all Skydancer female skins in all of history look on your dragon? Now you can!
The DB saves your last entered preview Dragon ID by breed!
Meaning you can have different preview dragons configured for all skins types (breed and gender). This also translates to apparel preview where it will fill the input field when you switch to view a different breed. You can also paste the whole dragon URL into the field and it will pick out the ID for you!
Improved search
The old DB relied a lot on user input and that was from a time where the game database didn't exist. This is also the part that suffered the most during the last months while the old DB was still online. No chest contents, no item source information. The new pulls everything it can from the official Game Database and you can search for all Hibernal Den items etc. You can also toggle between also viewing private skins or just site items!
Stable urls
I can not guarantee that all urls will work forever but right now your whole search is included in the url, whether you have item details open and when you switch between links inside the database. You can share your search more easily and when you click through the DB like crazy you can use the back button to go back however many steps you want. Item details also have quick links to searches to all items of that category or subcategory or even view all skins from one artist!
And more
Quick links to the Auction House, your Hoard and the official DB entry
Color breakdown of items are shown as a summary bar like in the old DB but you can click to expand it for a more detailed view.
It's now more than ever also suited for mobile viewports. Also all the information for one item are on the same page, no clicking through tabs! (Looking at you game database!)
What now?
Long term
I'd also like it to preserve historic data like one off Baldwin recipes that are now gone on the official Game Database (and that users preserve by posting comments). Unfortunately backfilling this data will be mostly manual and I hope I can get your help at some point. I will probably nuke all user accounts because they were mostly for editing and moderating and that needs a different approach now. If logins come back that will be so you can save item lists and the likes.
Short term
Search results ordering is still missing
Reporting for items that have wrong info. I've already noticed that custom skins often go online with the wrong breed/gender information and gets corrected afterwards. My Item DB needs to be informed to refetch those. For the meantime you can also write me a message when you notice it happening.
As this is a rewrite, not everything might go smooth, in that case please also message me!
Of course you can find the Item DB where it always was at: https://items.kanojo.de

Actually, speaking of my archive, I archive flight rising things! Things I archive includes (but is not limited to):
old art (ex: old Tomo)
new art (ex: new Tomo)
nonsense forum things that will/have been taken down (ex: dragon slime tutorial)
dragon...themes (generally nsfw. But anything funny (or impressive!) works)
just general nonsense (ex: bingus and big floppa in the item database)
generally important things (very subjective term, unfortunately. When in doubt send it in anyways ^^ better to have too much information than not enough)
So, basically, I archive A Lot of different things!
If anyone has anything they'd like to add, feel free to add it to this post or dm me! Including dates if you have them would be fantastic because I organize them by date, but no stress over it! I can always look into it myself. (Even just a rough guess of the year would be helpful!)
I am especially prioritizing site art as I don't have much of that, but anything goes :D! I'm not active in the forums, so I know that I miss a lot there
(And if you don't have anything to add, boosting would be much appreciated!!)

Idk if you do ship ask but I've always hc that most ritos are affraid of thunder, since that could very easily harm/kill something flying (like a rito), so do you have any headcanons about link comforting revali during a thunderstorm?
Heya! Thanks for sending this ask, I had so much fun writing it! If you wanna know why it took so long, it’s because I accidentally keep making these essentially oneshots instead of headcanons...I get too wrapped up in the atmosphere lmao.
Anyhow, please enjoy, and thanks for your patience! :P
Revalink during a thunderstorm:
2553 words
Revali always thought green was a decent color, it paired well with his evening blue feathers and eyes after all
But this trip was really challenging his beliefs…
“Tree. Tree. Large tree. Giant tree. Leaf. Bush. Greenery. Tree. Giant leaf. A verdant green. Emerald green. Fern green…” He listed off his observations rhythmically
Revali suddenly stopped walking, patting Link on the back.
“Why Link, you won’t believe this, but if you look up now, you can experience this rare sight of a tree. Impressive isn’t it?”
Link turned his head to see Revali gesture grandly at the Faron scenery, before rolling his eyes. ‘You’re such an ass…’
The Rito smirked, content with the annoyance he was causing Link, before continuing to walk beside him, pointing out the “variety” of nature.
He had been traveling with Link across the jungles of Faron, helping him fly over the waterfalls and rivers for...reasons he had forgotten. Something ordered by the Princess? Checking Shrines? Updating ruin locations? Something, something, Zonai, Sheikah, database...and other nonsense words that Revali didn’t really care for, point was, “this expedition would run all the more smoothly with your skill set,” so, here he was.
In hindsight that was probably only said to flatter him into coming, but it’s not like Revali was going to complain. One on one time with Link wasn’t an opportunity he would have passed up on, anyway
Walking under the lush forest canopy, Revali picked at the 700th vine tangled in Link’s hair. “This exploration stuff sure is paying off...I’m experiencing so many new things. Like plants, and water, and bugs. Never could have experienced this anywhere else.”
Link raised an eyebrow, holding up his hands to sign, ‘Come on now, don’t be like that. We’ll be done with this soon, so quit being pretentious for two seconds and enjoy the beauty of nature!’
Right, because the beauty of the sweltering, sickly green, claustrophobic jungle crawling with insects and slimy creatures, dwelling in a sticky, sappy, foliage that seemed to tie your wings down to the earth with it’s grasping vines and prickly leaves… THAT was just the thing for a Rito from Tabantha to enjoy
Revali clicked his tongue. “You think I’m the pretentious one? That one leaf is the size of a Hinox’s arse. What’s even the point of that?? Do the lizards hate the sky that much?” He gestured towards the thick canopy above once again
Link’s expression suddenly changed as he peered through the leaves, noting how the sky’s sunset colors had started to darken with greying clouds. He spoke bluntly
‘There’s a storm coming.’
“Oh? Wonderful…”
‘I think there’s a cave we can use for shelter near the northernmost waterfall.’
“Think? My ability of flight, and overall state of being, is not suited for moisture, so I’d really prefer if you were a bit more certain than, ‘think!’”
‘Well we can always sleep out here if you want… We’ll have to stay overnight judging by the size of those storm clouds.’
Revali shuddered as another sapphire blue lizard crawled across the forest floor near his talons, much too close for comfort. The image of laying down in the dirt, being mocked by the infectious green that covered the sky, for over eight hours, he audibly groaned.
Fine, hypothetical cave it is.
“Get on my back already. The sooner the day is done, the better, I suppose.”
Flying through the air, Revali feathers rustled in the growing wind, he could start to smell the storm in the air. Thankfully, Link’s cave turned out to be real, providing dry shelter from the oncoming, feather-drenching rain, thank Hylia. If he had to do his braids and ribbons again after he spent all morning just—
BOOM!
Not two seconds after Revali had landed them both in the cave, a deafening sound shook the ground and carried Revali’s soul to hell, heaven, and back. The sound that escaped his beak was none short of a shrill squeak you might hear come out of a thousand baby birds.
Behind them, green sparks fizzed against the earth, starting a small fire, before it was quickly extinguished by the now pouring rain.
Revali shuddered, shaking off the few droplets on his wing. His feathers seemed to tremble from the charge in the air, and his mind was racing with thoughts of what would have happened if he was two seconds slower in his descent, but he concealed it all with a neutral frown.
“This forest is lucky the rain started, that bright explosion of death nearly made me think we were under attack, I’d have nocked a bomb arrow or two.”
‘The...thunder and lightning, you mean?’
“Shut up I know what lightning is.”
‘I guess it makes sense you’re not that familiar...the most action you’ll see in Rito Village is cold winds and snow.’
“I said I know what lightning is.”
‘Oh, don’t worry, I heard you. I heard you very clearly a few seconds ago…’
Revali let out a few “hmphs” before sitting down on the cave floor. Link started to chuckle to himself before starting a fire, the cave was wide enough for the smoke to escape and not suffocate them, and it’s warmth was welcomed wholeheartedly by the Rito Champion.
Link thought that would be the end of it, Revali volunteered to take the first night watch, and the Hylian thought nothing of it. Before either of them knew it, Link had somehow drifted off into a peaceful sleep
BOOM!
Another crack of thunder. Sure, thunder had been roaring in air for the last two or three hours, but this time the lightning struck close enough to the cave that Link could feel the vibration against the earth.
He rose with a yawn, stretching his arms as if he had been woken by chirping birds, and not the midnight sky’s roars
Glancing towards Revali’s direction, concern started to creep onto Link’s face, as he watched the Rito with furrowed eyebrows and a frown
As far as he could tell, Revali hadn’t moved an ant’s inch from when Link had last seen him before he dozed off. His jade eyes were fixed on the jungle, and the feathers on his neck seemed to raise everything the sky glowed a shocking flash of green.
Despite having sat up from the fire, Revali didn’t seem to notice that Link had woken.
Link waved his arm in front of him, trying to catch the Rito’s gaze.
‘Hey? You ok?’
Link’s actions cut into Revali’s tumbling thoughts, but he quickly recovered from his initial shock with a click of his tongue
“I’m fine. Just watching to make sure your tired person doesn’t get ambushed by some crafty lizalfo. You’re welcome, by the way.”
Link paused, but in the end, he nodded his head in acceptance. ‘Alrighty then. Well, you go ahead and get some rest. I can take the next watch.’
“...ah. Right.”
Revali awkwardly shuffled closer to the fire, pinning his back a bit deeper into the shallow cave.
He didn’t bother to lie down
‘Are you sure you’re ok?’
“I’m fine. I’m just not tired yet is all”
‘Well you should try to get some sleep, cause tomorro—’
“Yes, I’m well aware, I don’t need the reminder of our schedule.”
‘It would probably help to not face the forest, cause the movement and noises can be distracting when you’re trying to sl—’
“Yes. I understand, thank you. As I said I’m not tired so—”
‘But Revali, I just said—’
“Look! I’m fine, stop pestering me about it, OK? All I want is to just be able to—”
BOOM!
Comically— or perhaps in this atmosphere, un-comically— a lizard fell off the side of a tree near the cave’s mouth, visibly fried and very much dead
Link, ever the survivalist, grew excited at the prospect of a free elixir ingredient, but as he turned to Revali to share this good news, he was greeted with a very still Rito, his feathers pressed stiffly against himself as he seemed to be holding down his other wing, presumably because it was shivering.
That was strange, considering Link had taken care to keep the firewood stocked. He looked at Revali again, his green eyes seemed to be swirling with racing thoughts and fears
......fears…
Hylia he was an idiot
Although in fairness, it works both ways
‘I’m sorry...I should have realized you had a greater fear of lightning given the circumstances…’
The Rito suddenly jerked his head, his voice rising in pitch by the second. “W-What?! I don’t know where you got that idea from. Circumstances?? I’ll have you know I’ve trained for years to be quite fearless.”
A sudden flash of light came from the corner of his eye, and Revali had to clamp his tongue to keep silent. If it weren’t for his feathers, he’d be as white as a dove.
‘Are you sure? I’d imagine the thought of thunderstorms are a lot worse for you Rito..’
‘You know, given all the rain, and the chance of being electrocuted, and shot out of the sky by a bolt of lightning, and the loud sounds that probably remind you of an avalanche or a bomb, and also falling out of the sk—’
Link suddenly cut himself off, realizing a bit too late that the explanation of the factors involved with thunder and lightning wouldn’t exactly help Revali’s attitude.
The Rito only stared at Link, his beak clamped shut. Finally, he let out a sigh.
“I’m fine.”
Silence, then a scoff from Link.
Yeah, right.
He started pulling out an assortment of items from his small pouch—how Link magically managed to fit cart-fulls of apples, armour, and weapons in there was beyond him. Link joked that it was because of magic tree children, at least, Revali thought he was joking
‘Ah-ha! This should make you feel better!’
Link pulled out a golden helmet, it looked Gerudo in style, and it was covered in green, red, and blue gemstones
‘This thing absorbs lightning, and disperses it, so you don’t get hurt!’
Revali raised an eyebrow, hesitant
‘No! Seriously! This thing has saved me dozens of times, it’s seen hundreds of storms, and it’s taken on countless lightning strikes directly on this part!!’
He pointed excitedly to the bright green gemstone’s at the helm’s crest.
Revali could only shift his weight in discomfort, and Link finally got the hint.
‘Ah right. Maybe the lightning prone object isn’t for you...but…’
Link pulled out a weird, flexible hat, in the shape of a fish. It’s giant eyes stared askew at the cave’s walls, and when Link put it on for demonstration purposes, it basically looked like an octorok had spat a starving fish on his hair
‘This little guy is called Lucky. He’s made out of this thing called rubber, and it’s supposed to help keep electricity from touching you. Pretty nifty fashion choice too, right?’
“I will be plucked dry and drowned before you catch me wearing that hideous thing.”
‘Lucky doesn’t appreciate your unkind words…’
A few more minutes pass by, Link unloading the items in his satchel in an attempt to ease Revali’s mind. But most suggestions failed to truly convince him. Occasionally, the storm would boom again, and Link would rub Revali’s wing gently, if only to keep his attention on the weird yellow mushrooms in his hand. Nonetheless, it was a small thing that the Rito appreciated.
After a few more rounds of talking, Revali finally sighed in defeat. “I appreciate your gesture Link, I truly do. But I’d really prefer to just, not think about lightning at all, rather than be surrounded by your cluster of trinkets and tools.”
“So again, it’s fine. I can just sit here and wait it out. Don’t torment me any further with your...endless basket of comfort foods. I do hope that you donate some of those to the needy, I can’t be seen walking around with a selfish, hoarding hero after all.”
Link ignored the quip and Revali’s attempt to deflect the conversation.
‘Are you sure there’s nothing else I can offer you?’
Revali opened his beak to say no, before closing it. He looked Link up and down, from his fuzzy golden head, to his pathetic and dirty blue tunic, to his brimming, sky blue eyes.
Revali opened and closed his beak again, before saying, “no, it’s OK.”
Link frowned, tapping his fingers to his chin.
Then, he swiftly grabbed at the blue scarf around Revali’s neck.
“W-Wha—hey!”
‘Just borrowing this for a sec!’
Despite Revali’s attempts to retrieve it, Link was already unfurling the scarf to its full length and width. Surprisingly, it was long enough, long enough for Link’s plan, anyhow
He turned back to Revali. ‘Snuggle up closer to the fire. If we’re gonna sleep towards the back of the cave like this I’d prefer to be as warm as possible
Revali’s expression was indescribable, at least verbally. Through the power of writing I can only describe the expression as something that conveyed feelings such as:
?!?!?!!?!!??!?!?!?!!!??!?!?!!?!!?
‘We’re gonna hug, you dense bastard’
Revali started to sputter out questions, and list of logical reasons as to why that suggestion was absurd. But suggestion turned to action as Link wordlessly wrapped the scarf around the two of them, before snuggling into Revali’s feathers.
On the brightside, Revali was stiff for different reasons, other than lightning.
In hindsight that was probably part of his plan
The Rito was silent, as he struggled with the decision of either allowing himself to be comfortable, nestled with his favourite soft scarf, and his favourite (he would never admit it) Champion
Or to put up his usual quips and walls
Was Link annoyed about this? Happy??
Spirits above he was so embarrassed, Link was probably doing this out of pity, like some mother tending to an infant...
Or maybe it wasn’t like that...? Was it something else?? Some other feeling that had cause him to take such a drastic action to—
‘What’cha thinking about?’
Revali felt Link’s arms move under his wing, and he looked over at the Hylian. He looked so...tranquil, and relaxed...and...stunning....despite his terribly kept hair
“Nothing.”
Link raised his eyebrow, ‘Yeah?’
Revali narrowed his eyes in confusion, but nodded, to which Link turned back and nestly his face into his soft feathers.
What kind of a question is that? What am I thinking about? This situation that came out of no where of course!!
What else would he be thinking abo—
...
Oh
The Rito could only smirk to himself finally putting together the pieces of Link’s scheme
Another moment of silence. At least, to Revali it was silent. The only sounds he could hear were of Link’s breathing, and his own heartbeat.
The thunder whispered in the background
Revali smiled, while resting his beak on Link’s soft hair
Then finally, thoughts turned to dreams turned to peace; Revali slept sound as the rain pattered to the sound of his beating heart
HA god what a loser it’s so corny I could die. Who would even right such a thing ahahaahha— oh wait
