battle jacket guide for baby punks
battle jackets or vests are really big in the punk scene. they also look cool as fuck. one of my favorite things about them is that each person's is different and represents their own style and interests. there are a few different steps u can follow to make one
step one. acquire the jacket
when making a battle jacket it's best to get one without any stretch to the denim bc the elastic threads in stretchy denkm break down faster than regular denim and when you're sewing things on it you might get a weird puckering effect. thrift stores like goodwill or salvation army are good places to look if you have time, but in my experience they don't have a lot of jean jackets. you can probably find one at walmart in the mens section, or target. if you'd like something with a more modern edge or higher quality denim you can check outlet stores like ross and marshalls. that's where i found mine for around 20 dollars. of course if you have the money you can get a Levi's trucker jacket or somewhere else more expensive. the color of the jacket is up to you. now that you have a base layer you can move on to customization
step two. washing the jacket
one important thing to remember about battle jackets is that they're handwash/no wash so it's best to wash your jacket before you begin. you have no idea who has worn or touched it before now. just throw it in the washing machine on cold and go blast laura jane grace for a little bit. personally i run mine through the dryer but if you'd prefer to air dry make sure you lay it flat because if not it will get stretched out shoulders.
step three. dyeing or painting
this is the part where you can possibly dye or paint your jacket. i have never dyed my jacket, but you can find fabric dye at Walmart and just follow the instructions on the bottle. i decided to spray paint mine because i had some cheap black spray paint and i wanted to know what would happen. if you're going to spray paint your jacket, make sure you do it outside and let it dry thoroughly before bringing it in. i left mine for about 18 hours so that the smell was completely gone. after that you want to turn it inside out and run it through the dryer with a couple bath towels for about 30 minutes to heat set it. spray painting your jacket will make it a bit more stiff. walmart and some craft stores sell spray paint that is made for fabric, but i didn't feel like paying for those so i used what i had on hand. i know those are pretty expensive and the bottles don't have a lot in them. if you only plan to handwash your jacket or don't plan to wash it at all, regular spray paint should work fine for you.
step four. back patch
most battle jackets that i have seen have a larger central patch in the back, with smaller ones on the front and around it. it's not essential to have a back patch but i think it helps to tie the whole jacket together. you can either make a back patch yourself or buy one. the site angryyoungandpoor.com has some back patches for popular bands. some bands also have back patches on their merch stores, or you can make one yourself. i made mine out of an old against me t-shirt. i measured around the design, cut it out, and then sewed it on the back of my jacket. if you want to make your own back patch you can do so in one of several ways that i will cover in just a second
step five. embroidering patches
there are a lot of patches out there that you can buy, but most of the time it's cheaper just to make them yourself. embroidery thread is pretty cheap at walmart, and all you need is sturdy scrap fabric to make something really cool. when you're embroidery a patch it's a good idea to get an embroidery hoop to keep your fabric taut. if you don't like the color of your scrap denim you can layer a different fabric over it. i had some stretchy cotton left over from cropping a t shirt that i layered over denim to help keep it in shape. this also makes it easier when you're sewing your patch onto your jacket. i don't recommend embroidering directly onto your jacket because it's harder to manage and if you decide you don't like how it looks and you rip it out you're left with weird holes that don't look good. it's all up to you but i wouldn't recommend it.
step six. painting patches
if you'd rather just paint your patches, you can always use fabric paint or fabric pens. it's best to avoid using acrylic paint because it wears off and cracks, but i have heard you can prevent that by mixing fabric medium into it. i have painted a few patches with acrylic paint but i used a layer of mod podge over the top to protect it. acrylic painted patches CANNOT go through the washing machine.
if you'd like to copy a particular logo or image with paint and you're not good with freehand you can make a stencil for it. the way i make stencils is by printing out my design and then covering the paper front and back with masking tape. once I've done that, i use an exacto knife to cut out the lines of my design and then i'm ready to go. you can use spray paint with a stencil or you can sponge fabric paint onto the design. if you choose to use spray paint make sure you have fabric paint in that color so you can fix up any problems with the design when you're done.
step seven. attaching your patches.
sewing is one of the most tedious parts of making a battle jacket. if you don't know how to sew you can google it. a lot of people use white embroidery floss or dental floss and whip stitch around their patch. if you're attaching an iron on patch that you bought, you should stitch around it too to secure it. make sure you're using a thimble if you're going over seams of the jacket, or sewing on an iron-on patch. at first it might seem fine, if a little time consuming, but days of finger pain isn't worth it. i prefer to pin my patches before sewing them, but you do you. for larger patches i first attach it with a thread that matches the fabric before using a contrasting whip stitch. that just makes things easier for me but it's not mandatory.
step eight. adding metal
spikes, studs and safety pins are a staple of punk clothing. safety pins are easy because you can get them anywhere and just put them anywhere. i got a bunch of varying sizes from walmart and i put them on everything. just play around and see what you like. you can find studs at your local craft store, probably in the leather working section. you just have to poke two holes in the fabric, push the prongs on your stud through, and then bend them back to secure it. you can also get studs online if you need to. i bought a couple packs of screw back spikes a little while ago, and i have since been adding those to a lot of my clothing. spikes are simple to add too. you poke a hole in the fabric, push the screw through, and then screw on the spike. some people recommend adding a dot of super glue in between the spike and screw to secure it, but personally I haven't needed to do that.
another way to add metal to your jacket is with chains. you can sew them on all the day down, or leave them hanging. it just depends on what you want to do. you can get short chains from walmart, or big rolls of chain from craft stores.
step nine. finish up
that's honestly about it. any of the information here can be applied to vests too. if your jacket is really crusty and you don't want it on your skin you can always wear a hoodie underneath, especially when it's cold. battle jackets can be worn with basically anything. mine has always been my go-to jacket for any occasion. make sure it actually represents your political beliefs and bands you listen to. get ready for people to look at you weird in the grocery store. if anyone has anything to add feel free to reblog, and if you have questions my ask box is open. you can always submit a photo of your jacket to my blog because i love seeing other people's diy stuff. wear a mask, stay safe, and fuck the pigs <3

High School Band AU: Ch. 9
Hope you like this! ^^
In your defense, you were really trying to pay attention. You really want to learn everything about Isaac Newton and the three laws of motion. Well, not everything, just… enough to pass the test tomorrow. You’re really trying, but the crumbled paper balls falling in your desk in the studying room aren’t letting you focus.
You didn’t unwrinkle any of them, if the sender notices you’re not having it, they’ll stop. Or that’s what you thought before the sixth or seventh little ball fell in your book. What the hell?
You look over your shoulder, there’s only one person sitting diagonally from your desk, but you can’t see who it is, because they are hiding their faces with a book. Well, trying, a few strands of hair at the top of their heads aren’t being covered. Red strands of hair.
So… Saeran or Saeyoung? Even though Saeran was becoming way less unbearable in the last few days - and it was about him, you’re pretty sure it has nothing to do with you trying to be more patient since he basically prevented a rape from happening with you – you two aren’t that close to the point of him trying to get your attention like this. Well, you’re not that close to Saeyoung either, you just forgot he doesn’t know that.
But it is Saeyoung, of course it’s him. And knowing the little you know about him, you better read one of these little balls or he won’t stop being a third wheel between you and Isaac Newton.
“Watchu reading?”  or… something like this, his handwriting can be a little hard to decode sometimes.
“Isaac Newton and the laws of motion.” You throw one of the balls behind you , nobody notices. Because, can you imagine, some people use the studying room to study.
“Spoiler alert: he dies in the end. Would there be more laws of motion if he hasn’t died? It’s open to interpretation.” You muffle a giggle and look at him, still using the book as a disguise.
“I know it’s u behind me and u r not really reading ‘Basic Principles of Genetics’”
“How dare u accusing me so unfairly? :O” did he really draw an emoji? Oh God…
“The book is upside down, Saeyoung.”
You look over your shoulder to see him turning the book to the right position and adjusting himself in his seat. Rolling your eyes lightly, you muffle another laugh.
“See? I’m learning EVERYTHING about Mendel and peas. In your face, MC!”
“Good, so go back to studying the peas and I’ll go back to Newton.”
You avoid looking behind you, you know it would just encourage him on keep exchanging notes. And though it’s fun, you really need to study right now!
And he apparently gets it, as the balls stop flying. You’re relieved! And… bored. Seriously, so bored… your eyelids are almost getting heavy. Where’s Saeyoung and the paper balls attack to keep you awake?
“Ok, tell me more about the peas.” You see him smirking when your paper plane lands on his desk.
“I know shit about the peas. Can I kidnap u in 15 minutes?”
“Such an improvement from when u used to kidnap me without asking me first.” Now he is the one holding his laugh, but he’s less discreet and some other students glare at him.
“I’ll be waiting for u next to the exit.” He lets the last note when passing next to your desk before leaving the room.
Well, you’ll apologize for ditching Isaac Newton. See, it’s not you, it’s him. It’s just not working and you think you should see other people. Saeyoung, in that case. He might be a handful sometimes, but he’s definitely not boring.
“I thought you wouldn’t come.”
“I really shouldn’t, to be honest. But this book is almost making me sleep. Especially now that you told me the end.” You stick your tongue out and he laughs softly. “So, where are we going, mr. kidnapper?”
“What kind of kidnapper would I be if I told you that? It’s a secret! Come on!”
You two take the bus. And you were worried about not having much to talk to him, but Saeyoung lets almost no blanks. He always has something to say about some place you’re passing by. And that is pretty comforting, actually.
“That’s our stop.”
“Usually it’s mine, indeed.” Yes, your uncle’s record store is just a few streets ahead. You noticed between all his blabbering that the way was being very familiar.
“Mine too.”
“Really? You live nearby?”
“No, I work nearby.”
“How come I never saw you before if we take the same bus?”
“Because you usually sit right there with your headphones and a resting bitch face that make people think you don’t want them sitting beside you.” Well, you really do use your phones and the… resting bitch face in order not to be bothered, especially by boys. But Saeyoung is a boy and he never bothered you. How long have you two been taking the same bus? How long has he been observing you? “And here we are.”
He stops in front of a store. A little bigger than the record store you work, the glass window and the light tones of yellow and white in the front gives even more depth illusion, but it’s an old building, for sure. And judging from the movie posters in the window, it looks old on purpose. It’s a video rental store.
You heard about this place before, actually. You passed by in your way to the record store and couldn’t help but thinking there is another shop lost in time very close to yours. You would imagine if the people who worked here were aware that the owner looks for nostalgia rather than profit, or would they really hope having a lot of customers.
“You’re not the only one in the band dealing with obsolete medias, MC.” Ah, so Saeyoung knows, just like you. “Come in.”
“Wait, it’s closed. Won’t your boss get mad?”
“It’s fine. He gave me those keys so I can come whenever I want. He doesn’t want to lose his only employee, after all.”
“And what do you do here?”
“Look at all these movies! What do you think I do?” you look around, yes, there are a lot of movies… how many of them did he watch? “I mean, I watch them, but there is another thing, come with me.”
He guides you to the back of the store, where the poster of a semi-naked lady is doing the shush gesture in a sexy way, and the warning “Do not enter if you’re under 18 years old.
“Come in, MC.”
“Ugh, the sign…”
“It’s a sign, not a cop. Come in.” he grabs your hand and brings you inside.
You look around and most of the movies are piled in the corner. Oh, thank God, you were so sure it was going to be walls stuffed by VHSs and DVDs covers of women being filled in holes you’re not sure they should be filled… instead, there is a pair of DJ pickups, a sewing machine, two mannequins, and records. Lots of records.
“Recognize some of them?”
“You got them at my uncle’s store?”
“Most of them I bought online. I must say the hip-hop’s selection at your uncle’s store is not that vast. I even wrote a note and put it in the suggestions box you have there.”
“My uncle neverreads it, sorry. So… you’ve been there before I joined the band?”
He smiles while turning on his equipment. “I was looking for Tupak and you told me there wasn’t much hip-hop, but I could look it up.”
“Then you asked me for help, but I didn’t know where the hip-hop albums were, because… it was my first day.” He nods, putting his headphones. “Why didn’t you tell me before?”
“We’re not that close.” Oh, so he knows that. “And I don’t want you to think I’m a yandere stalker or something like this.”
“Well, this room is very yandere-ish. The mannequins, the pink light, I mean… I think the phantom of the opera would have something like this if he lived in the90s.” he laughs loudly.
“You know what’s funnier than your joke? Saeran said exactly the same thing.”
“He did?”
“Yes, you two have a very similar sense of humor. Too bad you don’t really like each other, you would have fun together.”
“I… I don’t really hate your brother, Saeyoung.”
“I know, and he probably doesn’t hate you either. He’s just… he doesn’t know how to express his feelings too well, I… think he meant something completely different when you told us that Rika wanted to kiss you.” And you know that by now. You could tell him you do, but… you don’t really want to remember that night…
“Gosh, when you put it like that, it makes me feel really ridiculous for even considering that.”
“It’s not ridiculous. Maybe you and Rika has that… hot rivalry tension like Crystal Connors and Nomi Malone in Showgirls, you know?”
“I can’t believe you’re saying something in my life resembles such an awful movie, Saeyoung.”
“Hey! It’s a great movie! Great quotes, great dancing moves, great, uhm… breasts.”
“Of course you liked the boobs.” Even under the pink light, you can see him blushing. “But it has a pretty cool sex in the pool scene… I guess.”
“MC, you’re 15! You can’t watch things like that, young lady!” and you know he’s teasing, since he basically dragged you to the porn section of the store.
“Tell that to my uncle. I swear he has no idea how to deal with a teenage girl.”
“Especially one like you, I suppose.”
“What is that suppose to mean?”
“I mean, you’re very… well, you’re very unique, MC. You know a lot about culture from past decades, and… you’re a salty little smug, and… stupid people can’t really hold a conversation with you for too long.”
“You know you could easily be describing yourself right now too, right?” another blush under the pink light, from both of you now. “So, uhm… the pickups, huh? So vintage, do you remix?”
“I try, but it isn’t as easy as doing in the computer. Here, listen to this.” He hands you one of his headphones, and you immediately shake your head according to the rhythm.
“Public Enemy.”
“Yeah.”
“That’s so cool, Saeyoung.”
“Thank you! My stuff in the laptop are better, to be honest.” He grabs his laptop in his backpack and sits on the floor, you lean your hands on your kness and bend down when he connets the headphones in the laptop. “See? I asked Yoosung to play the piano for me and I basically recreated the base in No Diggity by Blackstreet.”
“And the waves here are you singing?”
“Yeah. It’s me trying to… rap, actually.”
“Oh my God! Let me hear this!” you press the play before he can protest.
“It's going down fade to Blackstreet. The homeys got abby collab creations, funk like acne. No doubt I put it down never slouch, as long as my credit could vouch, a dog couldn't catch me straight out. Tell me who could stop with Dre makin' moves. Attracting honeys like a magnet. Giving them ig-asms with my mellow accent. Still moving his flavor with the homeys Blackstreet & Teddy: the original rump shakers”
And you could laugh and make fun of him, but all you do is:
“Shorty get down, good Lord. Baby got 'em open all over town. Strickly biz she don't play around, cover much grounds. Got game by the pound, gettin paid is her forte. Each and every day true player way”
He joins you in singing: “I can't get her outta my mind.I think about the girl all the time”
And he moves to the second part of the song: “She's got class and style. Street knowledge, by the pound. Baby never act wild, very low key on the profile. Catching villians is a no, let me tell you how it goes. Curve's the word, spin's the verb. Lovers it curves so freak what you heard.”He’s… he’s looking straight at you, like… he’s singing to you, like he means it.
Who knew he actually knows how to sing? You remember Saeran teasing him for not playing any instrument, but the thing is he doesn’t even need it. Look at what he has here, he sews the outfits for the band, reproduces beats for famous songs in modern and traditional equipment, he… knew you almost since your first day in this town. And yes, you weren’t close, and that’s a shame.
“So, uhm… pretty lame, huh?” he asks, taking you aback.
“Well, I don’t know if it is ‘ig-asms’ material… yet.” He laughs, and you chuckle from his laugh.
It’s just in that moment you realize how close you are, you can almost fell his breathing against your nose, his… exhilarating breathing, actually. Your eyes lock with his, and you’re so glad those guys couldn’t do anything to you at that party, because, if they did… this wouldn’t be your first kiss…
And it isn’t, because Saeyoung lowers his head and looks back at the computer.
“Don’t let yourself be carried by where we are, MC.”
“I…”
“You’re sorry, I know.” Oh… not really what you were going to say. “Don’t worry. I… I won’t tell anybody about this.”
“Saeyoung, I…”
“It’s fine, MC, really. Oh, it’s late, I… should walk you home, you have a physics test tomorrow, right?” what is he doing? Why isn’t even looking at you?
Of course he’s embarrassed, you would be too if someone tried to kiss you and you didn’t really want to, but… if he says it’s fine, why doesn’t he even act like it’s fine? Again, why doesn’t he even look at you? Like you’re not worthy of it?
“I can go home by myself.”
“Are you sure? It’s getting dark and…”
“I can take the bus, I’ve done this before a lot of times, you know?” he does.
“MC, you don’t…”
“Goodbye, Saeyoung.” You gather your stuff on the floor and walk out of there.
What happened? You could swear he wanted this to happen as much as you did, it’s like… it’s almost like… he was waiting for you to make a move just so he could push you away, why?
You were so close to him, but, then again… you and him weren’t really close. And he knows that.

WHY the fuck
WHO the fuck was in charge of not putting gentiana in that damn film.

pryna—
ok sO I HC THAT LUNA HAS.... chronic pain just from the amount of scourge she’s harboring in her body. and she has mornings where it is v hard for her to leave bed, and pryna keeps her company.
THE PUPS AND LUNA HAVING A TELEPATHY SORTA DEAL, seeing as how luna could be.... considered..... divine herself. but yeah, love my!!! beautiful girls!!!!
angst: pryna and luna inner dialog while dying next to each other. bye.

[RO] The Diary of a High School Boy
This is my first time writing fiction... Hopefully it turns out well. Forgive the mobile writing plz😬
Diary entry 11/22/18 My name is Parker, Henry Parker. My high school career has been a shining sucess of mediocre grades, poor social standings, and third wheeling. My dating life has been a bastion of perfection. All the girls in school-and I mean every single one- would never dream of a going on a date with me. Much to my hormones dissapointment. And yet, Lana.
It's funny how a single name can run shivers down your spine. One name can put you through a rollercoaster of emotion. One name can make you the happiest man in town. One name can make you choose the stupidest decisions. That name-for me-is Lana.
I wanted my first kiss to be special. I botched that in kindergarten with a girl I've never seen for something like 15 years if memory is to be believed. So I'll save my virginity I guess. Who knows? It could end horribly.
But Lana. The one name that makes my iq drop to that of a monkey. I gave her a pillow onw time... I hand sewed it. Why I did that I'll never know. WHO would give someone a freaking PILLOW! Thats not even the worst one... There was one time I mailed her flowers anonymously. I later heard from her brother that their dad had burned them saying "I'll never let some gutless boy send my daughter flowers without sending a name with them!" My embaressmesnt will never end.
But even so, I love her. I could describe her face all day. I could tell of how her hair frames her cheeks, making her smile seem all the larger. I could tell of her eyes, squinting into slits while she tries to read without her glasses. I could tell of her laugh, a sort of mix between a giggle and an actual laugh. I could tell of her eyebrows, contorting into a perfect expression of disapproval or joy. I could tell of that one mole in the shape of a heart on the underside of her jaw... Even more I could talk about her goodness. Her strong morality, her unyeilding spirit, her undying love for the lucky few close to her, her protectiveness of the weak, and so much more. But who am I to love such a person? I'm nobody.
Lana is the epidimy of perfection. she is perfect in her strengths. Just as she is perfect in her beauty.
Gosh I sound creepy.
Diary entry 12.27.18 I don't understand. I don't understand. How can she like me? Okay people dreams come true. My mind is spinning in circles. I can't seem to get a grip on reality. Phew! I'm getting ahead of myself. Let me back up. So school had a Christmas meal and dance... Aside from ramen and moonwalking, I suck a both... Not that I had to cook or anything. But I do have to dance, seniors are obligated. So much for a segregated school. Anyway dinner happens, tables are cleared, the senior dance starts the night off. six songs are played but we're required to dance to three. Whoever keeps track of this is sick. So I go "what the heck, I'll do the first three and get it over with" this is the one time I am thankful for parents who couldn't care less about their child I go out to the dance floor... "Why aren't others coming?" I'm wondering Aside from the set couples, like the obligatory popular couple Ryan and Sara... Screw them, they suck. I think Mat and Shirley were out seriously who names their kid Shirley Marc and Rachel were the best looking couple... But anyway. I was the only 'single' out in the floor... Or so I thought... Turns out freaking Lana had the same bloody idea. Here I am, trying to get over liking Lana, then this dance comes along and we're slowdancing together. WE'RE SLOWDANCING! Idk who thought it would be a good idea to be playing love songs... But were dancing like a right old couple. Actually she was dancing like a saint. I was the old guy :/ The dj also managed to play the single three LONGEST love songs humanity has creates in it's short miserable existence... That being said. I was in ecstasy.
You have not lived until you have held someone you dearly love in your arms. Feeling their body and heart move in perfect rhythm to yours. As I said, ecstasy.
After the first song, she could have left for another guy. But she stayed. SHE STAYED! I was doing my best not to smile my face off, then I look down(ish) at her and I see she's smiling as well. When I say smiling, think Cheshire cat x 20. I finally say something "Why are you smiling so?" ... "Because I'm finally in the arms of someone I love"
I stopped dancing right then and there.
And kissed her.
My whole being had longed for that moment for so long. Now that it was here, it did not dissapoint. To say it was like heaven seems a understatement. Perfection was that moment. All my dreams could never have been even remotely close to what that moment was.
I eventually pulled back. "Why'd you stop?" "I love you" "I know.. kiss me again" "As you wish"
That night it was just her and I. That night I had no care in the world.. I was with Lana. In talking I learned that she'd been attracted to me almost as long as I to her. I learned so much about her, some bad, some good. She is all the more beautiful for it. And she loves me as well. She loves me though I have flaws. I chewed her ear off with my failings... But she doesn't care. She loves me.
She loves me.
6/21/19 Growth. Growth is the first thing that comes from love. The person who I was at that dance is not who I am today. Not by a long shot. Lana is still the best woman I know. Although, what I said in my last entry was wrong. She does care about my failings and flaws. But she loves me through them. Just as I love her through her flaws. She has shown me what love truly is. I thought that I loved her during the dance. And to an extent... I did. But what I was feeling was more of a massive chemical rush than love. What Lana has shown me is that love has little to do with emotion. Emotion can guide love, it can inspire love. But just because you are drinking the abrosia right now, does not mean that you will forever know its sweetness. Love is the choice to forgive, love is the choice to forget offences. Love to me is no longer something attain and retain, but something to give. Love is choosing to treat everyone better that they deserve. My life is a mess, I don't deserve Lana, much less her love. But I can accept her love and do my best to love her more.
I love you Lana, may I marry you some day.

Gender roles have been described as society’s shared beliefs that apply to individuals on the basis of their socially identified sex. Stereotypes can be conceptualized as the descriptive aspects of gender roles, as they depict the attributes that an individual ascribes to a group of people. Agency is often cited as the defining characteristic of the male stereotype, and communality as the defining characteristic of the female stereotype Whereas men are thought to be more agentic (i.e., independent, assertive, decisive), women are thought to be more communal (i.e., unselfish, friendly, concerned with others). Values (Halstead & Reiss, 2003) as, “ the principles and fundamental convictions which act as general guides to behavior, enduring beliefs about what is worthwhile; ideals for which one strives; broad standards by which particular beliefs and actions are judged to be good, right, desirable or worthy of respect”. Taken together the concepts of gender roles, stereotypes, and values, we can synthesise the concept of gender stereotypes, especially in Muslim, Latin American, and Black African societies, as being the product of religious and cultural patterns often are transferred from one generation to another through values and beliefs which underlie attitudes, behaviors, and norms
PAKISTAN was placed at 148thout of 149 countries in gender inequality index, as per the World Economic Forum report, 2018. Gender role discrimination is quite evident in the pictorial form of textbooks assigned to primary schools in Pakistan in which women are seen as helpers to men while doing various house hold chores, field works, or supporting their men while working at home (Agha, Syed, & Mirani, 2018). The main thing is that they are not doing something out of their will and desire rather give service to the men in their family. ALSO, a wide gap in general mobility between genders where women are half as mobile as men has been observed by the researchers (Adeel & Zhang, 2017). Additionally a severe gender disparity has been observed in children enrolment rates that are not significantly related to household income which implies that overall boys are preferred for higher education than girls irrespective of the economic status of parents (Quayes & Ramsey, 2015). In the same context, women are not generally encouraged to pursue a career, and their income related needs are hardly met by their own efforts ( Shah, & Baporikar, 2013).
Pakistan is a country where we celebrate sorrow feelings (like the custom of rukhsati in marriages), pains, and sufferings of the other vulnerable people. Pakistan is a country where we enjoy taking part in others helplessness, selflessness, and dependency. We provide opportunities to feel embarrassed (by teasing them physically in supermarkets), we provide sentiments to feel shame, to feel guilty and to feel harassed. Pakistan is a country where we love to kiss someone even at the cost of her dignity, willingness and approval. We are basically pathetic minded people and we don’t react upon others emotions appropriately- a kind of schizophrenic or in other words mentally sick people!
Usually, parents show the way to their kids and tell them, say
Don’t don it, it is not appropriate to your sex
          Girls should stay at home
Boys should play with boys
Girls should know how to do house chores
Boys should look strong and resilient
Girls should help their mother in the kitchen
Boys don’t need to learn knitting or sewing
Boys don’t shout
Girls should behave nicely
Boys don’t play with dolls
Girls don’t play outside
Girls don’t complain
daughters are guest in their parental home
and much more alike
It is so simple! when something is not appropriate due to gender identity – it is not appropriate actually. Our way to analyse it should be appropriate. We should tell our kids a different reason to do something or not to do something. We should not focus on gender in any way.
When we see the broad picture, societal pressures, parental attitudes, religious themes, and overall cultural settings combine to depict the sorry picture of gender discrimination in the society of Pakistan. It is not one single person’s fault, or duty to bring a change. It is each one of us if we are live, and if we can think, we are liable for thinking so. We need to be punished for thinking so- when we go for it by choice!
I request the parents of our society to deal with your kids fairly and equally. You are not allowed to discriminate among them on the basis of their sex except choosing color blue for boys and pink for girls. You can still choose various outfits to identify your daughter and son distinctively; you can still choose a haircut for girls and another for boys; however you should not go beyond it. Gender discrimination is not harmful in any way– but according to UNO guidelines of human rights it will become harmful when it will limit them from gaining personal abilities, restrict them from pursuing professional careers, limits the access of equality education and health, prevents them from making choices about their lives, results in violation of human rights, restricts them from enjoying fundamental freedom of movement with peace and security, and when these discriminatory beliefs underlie sorrow and grief in day to day family life.
Freedom, independence, powerful acts of decision making, free mobility, and strong ego could also be the ornaments of the women, as well as men. Women can exert their true will and make choices based on their own desire rather than to the sake of the family, culture, honor or any other fake idea or belief. In other words, women can decide what they want to do in their life, till how long they want to stay with their parents, when they want to get married, to whom they want to get married, to whom they want to get married a second or third time. In total, they can decide about their life freely and without having any social pressure in an ideal situation.
Traditions and customs should not be practised on someone’s freedom and right to live fairly. When you say, someone, to be quiet on having pain, to be patient and do sacrifice, you are not follower/preserver of a tradition (nice women sacrifice for their family), you are not making her a true legend; rather you are a perpetrator and exercising a devil. In other words, you are making their life miserable and torturous- that is a crime in itself.
For the women who usually feel guilty, and miserable, it is not easy to make them understand that they need to change their reaction from feeling guilty to feeling aggressive, annoyed on the apparent mis justification and mistreatment. Though it is unlikely that we change our mindset in an hour or so; however, we need to speak, think and reflect until neurons in our brains start working on such communicatory pathways and take information at the conscious level to act physically. This is the first step and it is the most crucial one in certain cultures like PAKISTAN.
Harmful gender stereotypes, rigid constructions of femininity and masculinity and stereotyped gender roles are a root cause of gender-based violence against women and put them at risk for various kinds of psychological and mental disorders like anxiety, depression, and stress. To eliminate gender-based violence against women, it would be crucial to transforming discriminatory gender norms and stereotypes into fair and equity-based traditions and norms that promote non-violent, respectful and equal gender relations between men, women.
