David Shaw Headcanons

Some David headcanons I wanted to share alongside a few minor Angel ones, enjoy!

Davids dad used to bake Davids favorite cake for his birthdays when he was still alive. After his death it's hard for David to enjoy his birthday because it reminds him of the loss. When David and Angel got together, Angel despite being god awful at baking or cooking in general, still went out of their way to make him a cake for his birthday. The cake was borderline inedible but the whole gesture was something that David really appreciated.

Definitely a personal headcanon of how he looks like but I see him with more longer thicker hair, his dad had similar hair while his mom in the photos and videos he has of her has shorter hair. If he were to ever cut his hair shorter, I'm sure he'd definitely look more like his mom.

I can see him having a personal journal to write in, especially around the time his dad passed. He wasn't able to grieve properly due to his position as being the new alpha so he turned to writing his thoughts down instead. It was easier with a private journal and in a way it helped ground him enough to get through the week. David doesn't write much in his journals nowadays due to finally being able to properly grieve and Angel being a major part of his support system. But, he does occasionally look back on those journal entries to see how far he's truly come.

David is very much a well groomed person and takes care of his hair very well. Conditions that motherfucker almost every day and shampoos it every 3-4 days thoroughly. It's just part of his routine that he sticks to.

Really doesn't like energy drinks in general but absolutely is a coffee addict.

Has matching Minecraft skins on Minecraft with Angel whenever they play together.

Angel managed to convince him to watch a few Aphmau videos with them specifically the Pheonix Drop series and he lowkey was invested in Garroth as a character. Angel teased David that he was like Aaron in the series and now David doesn't like him anymore. (He doesn't hate Aaron, it's definitely more lighthearted than he lets on but he'd rather let Asher cook dinner any day than admit that to Angel.)

David is strangely really good at tic tac toe, he always manages to win and believe me when I say his friends have TRIED to beat him at the game with little to no success.

Makes it a point to try and cook with Angel at least once per week, quality time is apart of his love language and he treasures every moment with them.

David usually keeps his hair up in a ponytail but has let Angel stylize it before when they're just relaxing.

During the Quinn situation, David was definitely on high alert with the safety of his mate. He knows Quinn isn't stupid enough to try but knowing Angel could've gotten hurt like Darlin's friend who got attacked just by associating with them shook him to his core. I don't think he'd ever forgive himself if something did happen to them and he wasn't there to protect them.

Davids dad was a really good cook and made a lot of his own recipes, he always wrote them down on note cards which David has saved and kept safe in a tiny wooden box in the kitchen. When David misses his dad, especially around the anniversary of his death, he gets out one of those recipes and cooks it. It's nostalgic for him and eases some of that grief that still lingers.

David really hates the cold so when winter hits, Angel is his personal space heater throughout those frosty months. Though, he does like spooking Angel a lil bit with how cold his hands can get. He put his hands under their shirt one time when his hands were particularly cold and they nearly jumped.

Angel gives David playful love bites and David loves recieving and giving them.

David has trained his body to wake up 10 minutes before his actual alarm goes off in the morning so he can cuddle Angel longer.

Dark chocolate is his favorite, it's not too sweet and has more health benefits compared to regular chocolate.

What do u have against ai? :(

How much time do you have?

1. Generative AI is trained on the works of artists and writers without consent or compensation. It’s literally stealing from actual people. And no, it isn’t “learning like a real person” because it isn’t a real person. It’s a program that is incapable of creating anything new of its one. All generative AI is built on theft by corporations from small independent creators.

2. It uses considerably more power than most other current technology. Like, arguably it is worse for the environment than NFTs. The amount of water it wastes is absurd, the uptick in energy usage is absurd.

3. Corporations are salivating at the chance to cut creative people out of products. They don’t want to pay people for their work because they don’t respect art and artists. As long as we live under a capitalist system, people need to be able to own what they create and be able to provide for themself with their own skills.

4. The misinformation and disinformation generative AI can cause and has ALREADY caused is insane. People have had their faces and voices stolen without consent or compensation. People can generate believable deepfakes of politicians and social figures that will degrade the truth and potentially even damage our already messed up political climate. How would you feel if someone posted a realistic video of you praising a product you never bought? Or vouching for a politician you hate? Or saying you think all gay people should die?

5. This one is just personal, but I don’t care what a machine “makes.” Creativity is special to me because it lets you see the world through someone else’s eyes. Art of all kinds—writing, art, music, roleplay—is a kind of communication. I want to communicate with people, not an inanimate object mimicking what a person would be like. The joy of art comes from creation. Reducing it to only consumption is a disservice to all humankind.

Certain scientific fields have genuine uses for other kinds of AI, and I respect that. But Generative AI is built on theft and disrespect; at best its used for shallow art that someone didn’t care enough about to make themself, at worst its used for scams, disinformation, and stripping away even more of people’s rights.

I legitimately believe there is no current ethical uses for Generative AI. Will there be one day? Its possible, but I honestly find that unlikely. For now, though, if you are pro Generative AI, please unfollow me.

I may not be the most talented artist/writer out there, but I have enough self-respect that I don’t want people who see me as replaceable by machines engaging with my creative works. I put a lot of time, passion, and love into my work. Someone who sees that as equal in worth to something an algorithm spat out in five seconds is not welcome here.

apparently my hottest fandom take is that i think it's Certified Loser Shit to go on tumblr and act like you're being discriminated against because of the race or whatever of your fantasy OC in a video game

the devs of (insert game here) don't "hate you" and take things away from "your people" because you can't be remotely normal about playing a catgirl or a dwarf or an elf or something

i think one of the quickest ways to make a character feel OOC is to use language they wouldnt use.

Characters, like people, tend to favor certain words depending on a ton of different factors (culture, upbringing, age, class, personality) and its useful to try and break down what words they tend to favor and how their language ~feels~ overall. It's tempting to just insert how you talk yourself but I am so serious when I say that it can make or break your characterization if you use language that that character would simply not use.

To start it can be as simple as noting which swears or pet names the character uses most often in canon. What do those words say about them. What's the vibe they give off. I'll give an example:

Character A's favorite pet name is Baby. this gives off a less formal vibe generally, and feels very flirty. Depending on the character's vibe otherwise this can come off as sweet, flamboyant, overly familiar, playful, etc. But overall it's casual, it's flirty, it's confident, generally speaking.

You can use this to inform what swears the character may or may not use. They'll likely use ones that feel more casual. Swears vary HEAVILY depending on your location so that's something to keep in mind here. For this example I would likely go with basic common ones like fuck, shit or bitch. I would likely lean away from something like damn/god damn it or hell because to me those feel a bit reserved sounding. (for a swear)

that's just a SUPER basic version of how i start to break down how characters talk but. i promise it does wonders for characterization to really stop and think hard about how they speak and what language they use. I know I personally make a whole mental (or sometimes written down!!) profile just on notes about how a character speaks, what words they like, which ones they never use, and how they tend to express different emotions. It's honestly also just fun!!!!

Open Starter

Hades loomed over the giant chessboard sitting in the center of his throne room. If the Lord of the Dead wanted to finally kick Zeus out on his glowing orange keister and take his place as King of the Gods, he was gonna need a new plan with a bit more finesse. Fortunately for him (and unfortunately for everyone else in the cosmos), plotting, scheming, and double-dealing was what Hades did best.

"Hmm, maybe it's time to put Typhon on the board....," Hades mused to himself as he conjured a chess piece carved to resemble the ferocious father of all monsters.

However, as Hades sat the piece down in alignment with the one carved to resemble Zeus, he heard the door open behind him.

"Uh, 'scuse me? I thought I was CRYSTAL clear that I wasn't to be disturbed! AND YOU TWO ARE - "

Hades flared up to a bright orange hue and whirled around, ready to fry Pain and Panic for disturbing him. However, when he saw that it wasn't his minions entering the chamber, he cooled down to his usual shade of blue and regarded the uninvited guest with confusion.

"And what in MY NAME are you doing here?"

heyoo, so i really fucking miss text biased rp. i used to do them a bunch back before tumblr removed the group chats feature and then i moved on to discord and i might get back into that tbh but basicity im making this blog to ask if any one would be down to do semi lit to lit rp ^-^

i wish we collectively could have an honest, open discussion about how unfriendly rp spaces still are to people of colour even if they are lead by people of colour, or well-meaning whites.

like, idk, there's still like antiblack events/scenes/dialogues that take place or biases towards white/white passing characters. this doesn' even begin to cover the cliquey nature of rp spaces as is and again, how biased people are and can be even if they claim otherwise. you could have the most open, friendliest space in the world, sure, but even then, they'd still be guilty of at least either: petty gossip or snobbish rpers who think they and the characters they portray (original or canon) are better than you and yours, or hell, just cliquey, exclusionary behaviour.

also, too, usually (i've experienced this myself a lot), if you're a person of colour in an rp space, 9/10 people who are not the same race as you will do just about anything to get your approval with portrayals/creations of characters solely to appease you and not because they have a desire to branch out or challenge themselves to make a character or portray a character that's nothing like them.

i'm of the philosophy of, if canon can't give me what i want, i'll make it myself. the same law is with fandom too. i'm happy being a solo ship myself if i get to enjoy it with zero drama and making my own lore/verse. i've reached such a level in my writing, i'm confident with what i'm doing and how i'm executing it. feedback is usually welcome (by close mutuals only or when asked) but otherwise, stay in your lane.
