Thoughts on the fearies? I really like the librarian one her voice just makes me feel so calm[insert crying emoji]
Pretty serene and graceful as one might expect! You do have a point in terms of the Librarian Faerie, it was nice listening to her locate where the needed sheet music was, pretty fine voice work there!
Tumblr media
The Librarian Faerie will admit to the group that during White Lily Cookie’s visits to the library would she often bring up a cookie’s name, overhearing it and wondered who this cookie could be. It wouldn’t be until you spoke up that it clicked for her.
YOU were the cookie White Lily would talk so much about. You certainly looked as pleasant as Lily had described, if not more so. You were flattered to hear that your created reputation from White Lily Cookie had proceeded you so much!
The Librarian Faerie humbly asked if you’re willing to indulge her request for a moment as she pulls out a blank scroll and feathered pen. Would you be generous enough to give her-the library more about you? White Lily Cookie made her ponder about you and this was her chance to satiate that growing curiosity within her.
Gingerbrave and the others had to get you to move along when her questions started to get more personal such as your birthday, where did you live, what were your favorite things to do, etc.
She promised it was just for the records! Despite how little it connected to the overall history of the Faerie Kingdom, she’s seriously telling you that your preference for a spouse was important to this kingdom’s history?

I love how Morpheus is The Sandman but he is constantly humiliated or berated by women. I especially like when Lucienne does this, in canon or in fanfics.

Unity's Party
Yay! It's here! 2.7k words of fluffy sweetness and family shenanigans!
Unity has a party. This is fine. (Yes, that’s an intentional reference to the meme.) With this family, what could possibly go wrong?
Featuring @xift42069 who now has a tumblr of their own (what even is my life?)!
Thank you to @ilya-halfelven for prompts and art!!!
“You are invited” Jed bounced up and down excitedly, holding out the invitation card to Rose but not actually letting her see it. “You’ll have to hold it still if you want me to see what you are so excited about!” she laughed. “Nana Unity’s having a party! Can I go Rose, can I go!?” “Of course you can!” she exclaimed. “But it would help if you’d let me read the details.”

Opinions on the original Dreaming series
You know, the one from the 90’s.
Spoiler alert.
Don’t get me wrong folks, it’s bad, but I honestly think it’s better than people think.
Honestly, this series really shines when the focus is on Cain and Abel. Excluding the whole ‘Cain’s wife’ plot line, they actually do a good job examining their relationship; how Cain’s treatment of Abel has essentially destroyed his ability to have any healthy relationships, the awkward position Eve is in all this, and the scene where Cain’s house burns down is just brilliantly done, as they show it from a fire victim’s point of view. Also, the scene where Lucien tells Abel that a world without secrets would be more awful than a world without mysteries lives in my head rent free.
There are also so many great prices that just don’t fit together. Nuala struggling in The Waking World and just feeling out of place everywhere, Lucien dreaming of being a raven, and having a panic attack as a result, and a pretty fun Wizard of Oz parody.
Honestly a great premise, but is ruined by giving Lucien, Abel and Cain love interests, as well as Mathew’s famous death scene.

Faerie Libraries
Modern mythology, fantasy literature, and folklore all incorporate the charming and entrancing idea of faerie libraries. Faeries, the enchanted creatures of European legend, are believed to maintain these ethereal archives of wisdom, concealed libraries that house books, scrolls, and relics. The concept of faerie libraries builds on the general interest in faeries as custodians of magical lore, old wisdom, and secrets. Various cultural traditions frequently portray faeries as protectors of the natural world and custodians of magical knowledge. The idea of a fairy library, a location where faeries congregate and store spells, historical documents, and other occult knowledge, furthers this concept. These libraries, which are usually hidden from view, are only open to individuals who are considered deserving by the faeries or magical methods.
Tumblr media
Many descriptions exist for faerie libraries. Some describe faerie libraries as elaborate crystal palaces filled with magical scrolls and glowing books, storing knowledge beyond mere words. Others perceive them as cozy, forested forests illuminated by fireflies or bioluminescent mushrooms, where ancient books nestle among tree roots. The books in these libraries, bound in leaves, petals, or other natural materials, reflect the faeries' close ties to nature. Faerie libraries include a wide variety of materials, just like the faeries themselves. They are rumored to have extensive collections of herbal knowledge that describe the characteristics and uses of plants for magic and healing. They may also contain histories of the faerie worlds, records of their dealings with humans, and instructions for using magic. According to legend, these libraries contain knowledge about the stars, the earth, and the mysterious powers that unite them, among other secrets about the universe. Fantasy literature frequently uses faerie libraries as crucial story devices. These secret treasures could contain important information, reveal old prophecies, or teach characters how to cast potent spells. Finding a fairy library usually involves a difficult journey where the protagonist must show their worth through bravery, character, or knowledge tests. Once inside, the information can be life-changing, providing fresh perspectives or skills that advance the plot. Modern myth and popular culture also embrace the idea of faerie libraries, often fusing conventional mythology with contemporary themes. These tales may depict faerie libraries as digital archives, housing age-old knowledge through magic networks or enchanted computers. The combination of the ancient and the modern highlights faerie lore's enduring appeal and adaptability to shifting cultural situations.
Tumblr media
Faerie libraries are alluring because they depict hidden knowledge and the enchanted appeal of the invisible realm. They support the pursuit of knowledge and the conviction that there are unsolved mysteries out there. These libraries serve as a tribute to faeries' enduring strength and knowledge for those who believe in their existence. In conclusion, faerie libraries are a fascinating aspect of folklore and imagination, representing the idea of magical knowledge secretly preserved by the fae. Whether portrayed as opulent crystal palaces or modest groves tucked away in the forest, these libraries never cease to captivate and inspire, providing a window into a world where knowledge and magic coexist.

Can you say more on Nuala/Lucienne technically being canon? I haven’t gotten there in the comics yet but I’d love to know more
Of course!
I would love to elaborate.
Spoilers for early "The Dreaming" run (1996-2001)
First and foremost, it is important to note that there is a difference about what is considered canon in "The Sandman" universe. If you ask DC, the entire "Sandman Universe" is Sandman canon, however Neil considers canon only what he has wrote, meaning the 10 original volumes, Overture, The Dream Hunters and Endless Nights. Majority of the fandom henceforth also only considers canon what Neil considers canon.
This is what I mean by technically canon because "The Dreaming" was not written by Neil, but it's still part of DC supposed canon. And in Nuala and Lucien "develop" a relationship in "The Dreaming".
I am not a big fan of their dynamic and in general any portrayal of Nuala, outside of Neil's and I am highly critical of it. I do not support Nuala and Lucien's relationship from that standpoint, because as mentioned in a previous ask, for me to enjoy any Nuala dynamic, the dynamic should not change her fundamentally to make it stick. The authors of "The Dreaming" however grossly misinterpreted her character and made her...into something that makes me seeth with anger.
I will give you the shortened version of it and will attach some panels, so you don't waste your time:
In "The Dreaming," Nuala explores the Waking World in her "real" form, and she is not very happy. She meets Cluracan, some irrelevant shenanigans ensue in which Lucien falls in love with a human woman I believe (it's painfully bizzare) and once this woman dies, they kind of make it seem like Lucien SETTLES for Nuala, there is simply no better way to explain it. On Nuala's side, she falls in love with Lucien because she shows her a bit of attention, and after the plot irrelevant shenanigans, she REVERTED BACK TO HER GLAMOUR! Because idk why...AND THE PENDENT...they made her destroy the pendent Morpheus bestowed her. Like...a whole mess, really
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So in "the Dreaming" Nuala becomes this insecure, small, sad woman that reverts back to her old ways for sliver of the attention of a man, who only chose her because his human love died. And that is weird for Lucien too, because Lucien belongs with his work husband Mervyn the Pumpkin and Lucien and Mervyn are married (I can go into detail about that some other time).
And that is so wrong, it fundamentally misinterprets and strips everything Neil wrote from a very intricetly written character.
The new run of "The Dreaming" does not fare better. It misinterprets her in COMPLETELY new ways. I also have to note that "The Dreaming" run really soured the possibilities of this ship for me. But I am a very free for all person. I think that a cute ship with Lucien is plausible. Very low chances of canonality in the show, but plausible.
I will be honest of course and say that neither Lucienne, nor Nuala are my first choices for each other, as Lucienne with Gault and Lucienne with Mervyn are equally very important to my health, however, I think it's cute.
As I've said before, they read cute girlypop books and make flowercrowns together.
Those are all my thoughts really on that!
If I can be of anymore help, my asks are open 🫧
Love,
Li 🪷

OMG, the OP that mentioned NualaxLucien 😭😭 The Dreaming is so bad, honestly. If people actually want NualaxLucienne, the show will have to change how Lucienne treats Nuala a lot because that comic was...vile. To both Lucien and Nuala. Anyways, hope you good 💮
You know its funny, I have never read the post Neil Gaiman Sandman comics, any of them. But every new thing I hear about them just makes me sad. It also makes me understand more and more why Neil decided to kill off Morpheus - so that even if DC would go on to ruin all his other characters, they wouldnt be able to get their grubby hands all over Neil's pride and joy The Dream Lord himself.
If the show decides to pair up Lucienne and Nuala I am sure such a relationship would be treated far better than the comics. I have a whole meta in progress (I know I say this a lot... my drafts are a nightmare but I WILL finish them I promise) about Lucien and Lucienne and how Lucienne is a million bazillion times better than Lucien who honestly is one of my least liked of the main dreaming based characters in the comic. That was more than just a glow up, it was like um a magikarp evolving into a gyarados type of improvement and I have a hell of a lot more to say about how significant the changes to Lucienne in the show not just improve it, but completely effect the emotional arc of Morpheus AND the other residents of the Dreaming.
But back to Lucienne and Nuala. When we meet Nuala in the show, I hope they handle her initial storyline better, and I can't imagine that she will feel quite so alone in the Dreaming in the show, not with the residents being so much warmer and kinder than their comic counterparts (i mean even Cain and Abel arent as dark and horrid in the show). So I hope we will get to see plenty of interactions between Lucienne and Nuala and therefore be given plenty of content to play with for shipping purposes.
I think I'll stick to my stance that anything not written by Neil Gaiman is not canon, but that doesnt mean we cant explore what Nuala and Lucienne's relationship would be like and we certainly dont need non canon DC comics telling us who to ship with who anyway!
Thank you for the ask and the further reassurance that I never need to read any non Neil Gaiman Sandman comics ever! 😊

I found your post about librarian fae (from 2019), and I just so happen to be making a faerie librarian character. Do you have any helpful tips or information that I could use for him? Thank you for your time!
Hmm. Consider how such a being might view literature. Is history something they were around to see? And might they interpret it different than you or I? How about poetry? Faeries are well known for rhyming and singing, so they might have a special love for poetry of all kinds. Fantasy is just as enticing, for even if its truly fictitious, they might find joy and delight in the dancing of words used to weave such glorious and moving stories. Personally, I have always thought that a Librarian who is of the Folk might go out of their way to tell stories aloud. As their voice rises and falls in pitch and volume it entrances the listeners, causing them to dream while still awake. Seeing, living the world of the story as if they were there. Be careful about where you put books back. They might not be very pleased if you misshelve them, and a displeased faerie is a very dangerous thing. How long have you lingered in the books? Five minutes? Better check. Time does not exist here in the library.

Today's 3AM thoughts:
NO BUT WAIT.
You know what would make the best crossover ever? The Sandman and Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.
-waves excitedly at anyone who's in both of these fandoms- (and to those of you that are only in one, I'm Pretty Damn Sure you're going to like the other. The Vibes match. They are absolutely wearing the same hat. Please go watch it (whichever one it is) right now.)
The Raven King being in some way related to Dream, because they are both dramatic gothic emo kings who never feel the need to explain shit to people. And also his ability to have the entirety of his human kingdom dream of the same thing. (That or maybe he bargained for a favour from Dream? What did Dream get in return?) The Raven King and Lucifer. I don't even care what that relationship ends up looking like, I just Need them to interact. Mortal Enemies? Frenemies? Allies? High Romance? Yes! Yes to all of it! Did the Raven King make a bargain with Lucifer for his Kingdom on the Far Side of Hell? Did he trick his way into it somehow or win it in the oldest game?
Hob thinking that Dream is a faerie rather than a devil. Hob living through the entirety of the decline of English Magic. Hob getting accused not of being a witch, but of being a faerie. Hob, at the height of his Atoning For Being a Slaver years, finding Stephen Black, the son of a woman who died on one of his ships. And getting caught up in the quest to Kill the King of Lost Hope because freeing Stephen from bondage is why he's there. (Hob getting to be a Faerie Knight for a while as atonement to King Stephen of Last Hope? Hob going to Segundus' school of magic?)
Tell me Rodrick Burgess doesn't have shitty English Magician Vibes. Tell me that whole magical ritual and 'a cage of glass and iron' and all of that doesn't have huge Strange and Norrell-esque magic vibes.
The Kingdom of Last Hope being a close neighbour to the Dreaming. Stephen sending someone on a Quest into the Dreaming to rescue dreamers stuck there because of the sleepy sickness. (Reprise of Faerie Knight Hob?!) the Kingdom of Last Hope making fae deals with people to protect them from the sleepy sickness by spiriting them away from any chance of dreaming every night. (The Raven King getting Mad about this abducting of His People, and Stephen telling him (ever so politely) that he wouldn't have to if the Raven King would protect his own damn people.)
Stephen and Lucienne. Ultimate Broship. Meeting across the negotiating table and just having Mad Respect for each other from the get-go. Dream is an offended cat about the fact that this foreign king seems to have more respect for his librarian than for him.
