here’s an opinion that you can leave or take or call me puritanical over but I feel this strange sentiment come from the thai QL fandom here that equates explicit content as progress in queer representation.

am I even reading the vibe right? idek because that life view is so unreachable to me lol but if you ask me the most progressive queer representation to have been released in the last couple of years is this

I understand that different people have different markers of progress and you don’t have to ascribe to or even understand mine but you must acknowledge that it exists.

SOTUS and A Tale of a Thousand Stars are older BLs that have very few parallels to me BY modern standards because to me progress is being able to watch a queer show with my family.

I’ve had a lifetime of watching queer as folk, grainy old school Japanese BL, lipstick jungle, weird french movies about gays with mommy issues in the dark, in the middle of the night; alone.

A lakorn like To Sir, With Love is something I can watch in the light with my whole family. Queer retelling of quintessential asian love stories like ATOTs or Moonlight Chicken that I can show my mom and have her understand queer love in the narrative language that she understands - that’s progress. That is what I have spent my entire youth praying for.

Don’t get me wrong I love buttcracks and the threat of male pregnancy just as much as the next person but dear god do I also need offgun to make 57 more heartwarming shows where their lips touch for 3.1 seconds so I can share this part of my life with the people that matter to me.

in kpts, almost everyone in the mafia is trapped there. a good half of them clearly want out.

porsche vehemently doesn't even want in. he resists to the best of his ability, and even once he's in, he still dreams of that bar on the beach. chay would drop the mafia in a heartbeat, if he felt that it was possible. kim's already got one foot out the door. kinn wishes he could have even half of what kim has, but he's been thoroughly convinced he's never allowed to have it.

so despite all these characters who would love to be let loose, who would kill for a chance at true freedom — would run off into the sunset and never look back — it's interesting that the narrative gives the slightest promise of freedom to the two characters who didn't know it was possible, who never even thought to dream of it. vegas and pete do not understand the value of what they've been handed.

will they ever understand? will they ever see that freedom as a gift instead of a curse?

For the Drabble challenge here. (pre-canon) Peter groaned and pried open his eyes. The feeling of cold metal against his wrists and a throbbing headache blurred his vision as he tried to make out his surroundings. It was so bright, too bright. Shards of light stabbed his corneas as he shifted his weight, attempting to stand, but his hands were cuffed behind his back. “Woah there, Agent Burke,” a smooth voice said as a hand gently pushed him back against the brick wall he’d been leaning against. Peter squeezed his eyes shut, blocking out that light and tried to place the voice. It sounded familiar but… “This will sting a bit, but I’m almost done,” the voice said again and Peter saw a flash of a smile in the recess of his mind.

Charming grin. Dark hair. Blue eyes that danced with delight. Peter let out another groan as recognition dawned on him. Neal Caffrey. He struggled against the handcuffs again, the fog from his mind beginning to clear. Neal Caffrey had cuffed him, not the other way around. Peter squirmed this way and that, but his still-muddy brain inhibited his movements and he ended up just wiggling back and forth like a worm against the wall. Finally, Neal grasped the sides of Peter’s head, forcing Peter to still, forcing Peter to stare into those blue eyes. “Hold still,” Neal said, cocking his head like he was commanding a dog to “sit and stay.” Peter scowled. Neal’s face was still a bit blurry, but his brows were furrowed in….concern?

"You're a terrible patient, you know that, right?" Neal said lightly under his breath, his fingers nimbly assessing some painful, wet wound on Peter's forehead. “Well you’re…” Peter grunted painfully, “Under arrest.” Neal laughed, bright and clear and Peter’s head erupted in pain as a result. “Ahh Peter,” Neal shook his head, his usually coiffed dark hair falling around his face as he brought his hands up the corner of Peter’s forehead, “If you can catch me after I am done stitching up this head wound, then I’ll come with you to prison fair and square.” Just then, Peter felt a tiny prick and winced, closing his eyes. A little tug on his head, and then Neal sat back on his knees and observed his work, narrowing his eyes and humming to himself. “Just saved you an emergency room trip and from the mob that we were both running from minutes ago,” Neal said, an edge of cocky pride to his voice. Neal clicked open the cuffs restraining Peter, leaning in so close to Peter that his heart pounded and he could smell Neal's cologne. Peter had never been this close to someone he'd chased and not cuffed them.

It was thrilling. Neal tucked the handcuffs into his own pocket, shrugging. “Never know when these will come in handy.” “Hmph,” Peter reached up to find a neat row of three stitches close to his hairline. Neal smiled brightly, eyes dancing as looked at Peter. “You won’t even have a scar,” he said boastfully, light and energy radiating from him. He patted Peter’s shoulder, “See you next time, Peter.” “Caffrey….” Peter bemoaned, trying to stand, but his head was pounding. Neal grinned and bowed politely, “Please. Call me Neal.” And then he was gone, leaving Peter with a throbbing headache, near-perfect sutures, and…a warmth in his chest. Peter smiled, not even angry that Neal had gotten away. Neal had left an aura of sparkling energy, falling to the ground like soft snow and enveloping Peter in light. Since Neal Caffrey got away this time, that meant Peter would see him again. And Peter didn’t seem to have a problem with that at all.

The thing is that I watched Good Omens because I love David Tennant, and I neither intended nor expected to end up with a massive crush on Michael Sheen and Michael Sheen's acting. But like. How could you not.

i highly recommend leverage! but of course it depends, what are you mainly looking for in a new tv series?

but as far as leverage goes, i think some of my favourite things about the show are:

really great characters!! an honest man who’s lost his family struggling with morality, alcoholism & the group of criminals he has accidentally adopted/who adopted him lol (who he used to try and track down as part of his job in insurance investigation); the grifter who’s in love w him but has her own problems to sort out, who can pretend to be anyone for a con; an ambitious young hacker who’s the sweetest kindest guy ever & WILL make this group of emotionally stunted thieves into a family, so help him god; an ex-hitman who no longer kills people (and is still the guy who fights ppl but like knocks them out with killing them) and grumbles about everything while also loving to cook & deeply caring about his teams health & safety; an autistic cat burglar who loves stealing and is the worlds best thief, who is learning to trust people after a lifetime of trauma.

an awesome con + heist each episode. they’re always in some kind of Situation. they’re pretending to be wedding planners. they’re robbing a bank that’s already in the process of a robbery. they’re doing a magician show. all while at the same time doing very cool serious thief stuff. all of them are extremely good at what they do.

great character development, they each have their issues to work out, quirks to accept about themselves, things to learn.

very sweet relationships <3 both the romantic relationships & the platonic ones. i once saw it described as "found family speedrun" lol which is very accurate!!

genre is action/heist/crime sorta thing but also has many funny comedy moments. eg the characters who don’t grift attempting to grift and either really overdoing the alias or being very socially awkward.

makes you feel a little better about all the shit happening in the world. like. their clients are regular people who have been wronged by some kind of huge company or or corrupt politician or billionaire or something. and the team always somehow takes down the corrupt/exploitative/shitty person and get compensation & justice for the people who have been wronged.

Have you ever seen The Phantom Tollbooth? What with your love of the cockroach man (whom I do not presume to unseat with this rec 😂), you might enjoy the dandy bug man, the Humbug, from this film. Regardless, the movie's a lot of fun!

points to you for such an obscure suggestion, i've never heard of this movie or The Humbug before in my life!!! but of the clips i just watched, The Phantom Tollbooth looks so fun and whimsical...and this dapper bug is quite the highlight 👉👈 he's rather full of himself, isn't he? such a lovely voice...and the design is incredibly charming 🥰💖

Fitness week for everyone! Legend and I are getting closer and closer to the goal of being able to run a 5k without walking breaks. 2.74 miles at a sub 11 min pace right now in week 8 or 9ish of running.

Radar is being the experiment dog, testing biking with a dog setups. Right now just making short loops and getting used to it. He doesn’t seem inclined to run so I have to try to keep the bike balanced at stretchy corgi jog trot speeds 😂
