*Y/n's POV*

As I walked into the precinct with two lunches in my right hand and a container of cookies in the left I made my way over to the front desk.

"Hello, how can- Y/N! Pleasure as always! You here to see Ryan?" Kai, Ryan's Boyfriend asked with a bright smile

"And his side piece!" I feigned offence as I held up the lunches

"Awe, Tim isn't in at the moment but you can go see Ryan and then draw at Tim's desk till he gets back!"

"Works for me!" I smile and make my way over to my brother. As I walk by people they smile and wave, knowing me from Ryan of course, Angela and Jackson stopped to actually say hello.

*Angela's POV*

After a few minutes of talking with Y/n, we heard her brother call

"N/n!" I had just put my bottle of water up to my lips when I heard the most beautiful word.

"Hey Ryan, I made you and Timmy-" I didn't hear the rest because I had spit near all of the water in my mouth on West and doubled over in laughter

"Are you okay?" Y/n ran the 20 feet back over to me worried

"I'm great!" I eased her mind, and she reluctantly left me and went to Tim's desk with Ryan, he ate while she quietly drew with the blue, red, and black pens Tim had in his pencil holder.

*Tim's POV*

I walked into the precinct after telling Chen to book the douchebag we got

"Tim, she's at your desk!" Kai called I didn't notice the huge smile on my face until-

"Aww, Timmy's smiling!" Angela called out

"You ever call me that again and you're dead" I snapped

"She calls you that." she pointed out with a smile on her face

"Yes, and she is the only one that calls me that."

"Alright, I'm sorry Tim." as I walked to my desk I heard the faintest "me" and laughing right after, it didn't bug me as much because I finally got to my desk

*Ryan's POV*

Y/n didn't notice Tim when he walked in, she always gets so locked into her doodling. He crouched down next to the chair and she gasped

"Timmy!"

"Hey S/n, what you doing?" he asked with his best smile

"Just coloring and waiting for you. I made you and Ryan lunches and cookies!" she said happily as she handed him his lunch and showed him the container of cookies

"Thank you so much, S/n!" giving her a kiss on the nose, now I knew he had a crush on my sister, which I most definitely gave him a huge talk about if he hurts her I'll crush his skull in, but the way he said thank you... had everyone around stopping. Anglea and Lucy were Awwing, and Grey, and Nolan were probably having heart attacks, while West just pursed his lips trying not to smile. I just gave him a warning look as he pulled another chair over and sat in that one

*Tim's POV*

While I was eating some people still looked on and off, not used to the domesticated me, but they weren't ready for what was about to happen, and to tell you the truth neither was I.

"Um- so I was thinking, you wanna go to dinner with me?" I asked slowly not ready for the answer. Everyone was shocked, except the girls... I think they might have been more nervous for her answer than I was

"L-Li-Like a date?" she asked, her entire face turning red looking down to hide her blush. I put my finger under her chin and began lifting her head up

"If that's okay" Somehow I think my face was redder than hers

"That'd be awesome" she said in a small voice

"Yeah?" I had to double check

"Yeah!" she nodded quickly

"Cool" I nervously laughed out

"Cool" she laughed out nearly the same

"DAMNIT" We turned to Kai standing next to Ryan getting his wallet out and handing him a twenty

"W-what?" Y/n asked confused

"I knew he would break first, he thought you would just kiss him one day" Ryan explained

"Well, I've waited this long" She shrugged and turned to me next thing I know her lips are on mine and I never want to let them go

I moaned into the kiss luckily as cheering erupted in the precinct.

Ok hear me out I just thought of something.

We’re all familiar with the swan princess, right? If not, look it up it’s awesome. I love any and all iterations of that story.

ANYWAY!!!!!!! We all like a little romance in the fandom right? So lemme explain this thought I just had… a swan princess-ish type of LU story?

Basically, what if the Chain find a bird (you can pick any bird you want but I recommend a crow.) being injured by a small group of monsters. The Chain save the crow and heal its wounds before going about their business.

The crow then starts to follow them. It’s a little awkward at first but the crow eventually becomes like another member of their group like Epona and Wolfie (if this is pre Wolfie reveal. I’m not picky so anyone can say yes or no on that.) the crow helps them scout and navigate new areas, warns them of threats in the distance, and even brings them trinkets from time to time.

Anyway, one day after the Chain settle down for the evening they noticed the crow is on edge like its nervous… the Chain are wary because normally that means danger is around. But what actually happens boggles their minds. Once the sun has completely set and darkness falls upon the land… the crow turns into a girl (or whatever gender you want. I’m personally gonna go with a girl) who immediately is hiding in the bushes and asking to borrow a cloak. (Not everyone has magical clothes when they transform lol)

Turns out, the crow is actually a girl who was cursed! An evil warlock cursed her to forever be a crow except on the nights of a perfectly crescent, half, and full moon. When she can return to her human (or Hylian. Take your pick.) form. Basically, the warlock loved her beauty (or handsomeness.) and asked her hand in marriage three times. On the nights of a perfectly crescent, half, and full moon. She refused all three times. As revenge, he cursed her to take the form of a crow, a bird which was unanimously hated for being associated with evil. As far as she’s aware, she has to accept to warlock’s ‘love’ and marry him for the curse to break.

When questioned on her reasons for sticking around and helping them out, she simply told them that they saved her life. Anyone else would have left her to die… or finished the job themselves. She was grateful and wanted to repay the favor. Of course, she also wanted to see if the journey they were on could help her find another way to break her curse, but that was just a bonus. She really did want to repay the favor of helping her. She’s been through so much as a crow… like I said, they’re associated with evil so people aren’t the kindest towards them.

Obviously there’s another way to break the curse, but only the warlock knows that. I haven’t EXACTLY thought of the details, because I don’t wanna copy Swan Princess too much… but finding true love is the basics.

You know, I've actually never seen or heard the story of the Swan Princess. So if I do get commissioned for it, I guess I have some research to do. XD

I thought it was going to go the route of Kiri from CR Campaign 2, but I was delightfully surprised by the change! OR! Maybe I can twist them both together to avoid ripping off the Swan Princess as a whole.

Also resulted in rewriting and reshooting of those in production, and more weird and invidious things. This also showed up as a purge (and likely persecution) of Chinese queer vloggers on YouTube, the imprisonment of several danmai authors, and eventually the censored bromances we now get today.

What is your OC passionate about?

I've seen stuff to help develop characters that's asking questions about them, eg. What do they want more than anything? What is their greatest fear? What are their dreams? etc. I've always had trouble with these for some reason. Possibly because they seem so impersonal to me, despite being directed at a person. But I discovered something the other day. I love crossover fics, and I sometimes imagine my own OCs going into a fandom I like. Because of this, and my recent interest in Ride The Cyclone, I found a way that works better for me.

Ride The Cyclone is a musical about six teens who died in a tragic roller coaster accident. A mystical fortune-telling robot, whose name is Karnak, somehow has the ability to bring one person back to life. He takes the six teens, Ocean, Constance, Ricky, Noel, Mischa, and Jane Doe, to a sort of purgatory. In this purgatory they are to decide which one of them comes back to life. Each character, excluding Karnak himself, sings a song about themselves so that they can judge amongst themselves who should be brought back to life. But they don't exactly sing about their actual lives, instead they sing about their passions. In the words of Karnak, "Tonight I wish to give them the chance to express not what they were perceived to be, but what they dreamt they were."

Ocean sings about what she's passionate about first: Wanting to be on top, first place, the best. She sings how she's better than everyone else. She sings how the world needs more of her, and less of others.

Noel is next. He sings about the art movement Romanticism, he is the most romantic boy in town after all. He sings about wanting to be a female hooker in post-war France. He sings how he wants to live a life of sin, to burn himself with cigarettes, to die in an alley. He wants to experience a tragic life, not just the good, but the bad.

The next to sing is Mischa. A boy from Ukraine who lost his mother to radiation poisoning. He starts by singing about his facade, a gangsta. He raps about how everything is awesome. How he's awesome. But then he breaks out of that character and sings about his true love. Of which is his fiance, Talia. He devotes himself to her wholly, singing with passion.

Next is Ricky. A boy who was mute and physically disabled his entire life. He was often avoided in life, with his parents and cats being the sole exceptions. He sings about an escapist fantasy. He sings about himself in a sci-fi world, sent to help the race of the cat people of Zolar. How he helps save their world from extinction, and becomes famous in history. He sings about being known and loved.

Then there's Jane Doe. The one unidentified victim of the Cyclone accident, she lost her head and no one knows who she was in life. She sings about how she doesn't understand. Why she couldn't remember her family, her friends, her name? Why can't anyone remember who she is. How she'll be eternally forgotten and how everything will eventually join her in death. She sings about not understanding why.

Finally is Constance. No one really knew her well, she was only known as nice. She sings how she used to think that her life sucked, and howit only got her down. Then she goes into how wonderful she realizes life is now that she's lost it. She sings about loving the life she used ashamed of.

All of them sing about their true passions. Without the fear of being judged, they're all dead anyways, no point in being self-conscious. Then imagining my own OCs in that situation, with no consequences for expressing themselves, really helps me deep-dive into their characters. Reframing the question "What are they passionate about?" Into what would they be like in this specific situation I'm familiar with?

So I think of my OCs and what they would sing about. For specifics, I have three OCs I've been working on recently.

Left to right they are: Henry Robinson, Victor Shelley, and Mary Robert. Their story is very much about wacky mad science and creating life where there was none. Definitely inspired by the idea/story of Frankenstein.

When I imagine what they would sing about in a situation with no consequences, just a chance to truly express themselves, I understand them far more than I would with just generic questions.

I imagine Henry would sing about his triumph in creating artificial life, he'd sing about how he's going to be known all across medical history as the man to prevent death. He'd sing about how betrayed he felt when Victor abandoned him. He'd sing about how he deserves more. Victor would sing about his grief. He would sing about how stricken he is at Henry's blatant ignorance of the laws of life and death. He'd sing mourning the lives lost in this pursuit of life. He'd sing about his care for others. Mary would sing about her lack of understanding. How she was brought into a world, not through love, but through science. How she woke up in a lab with only Henry there to help her, a man who is only using her for his own gain. How she doesn't understand why she couldn't have stayed resting in a grave. She'd sing about her confusion.

With just the question, "What are they passionate about?" I think that Henry's passionate about science, Victor's passionate about his disregard for Henry's actions, and I wouldn't even know about Mary. But with the question, "What would they do/sing about if there was no fear of consequences?" I come up with so much more.

And so, I ask you, dear reader. What would your character rant about, if only there were no fear of being judged?

Thoughts on Percy Jackson and the Olympians, episode 3:

(Disclaimer: I loved everything about the episode except, mostly, Annabeth herself. So if you're going to get offended because someone doesn't like the same fictional character, because that's what Annabeth is, and if you're going to try to turn the argument into something else, please don't bother reading.)

So. This is a bit difficult because I feel very conflicted/wary about what's to come, mostly because Disney has not been historically good at girl power or badass female characters. Let me just say this; while I used to love the CW's Flash, it quickly went downhill when the Flash took a backseat to his own show for the CW's half-assed "girl power" message. I fear the same might happen here.

Let me be very clear about something. It makes sense why Annabeth would seem like the more formidable opponent at the start of the story. She was more or less that in the first two books because, not only is she the daughter of the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy, but she'd spent a lot of her life training for quests, studying about the gods, and she just knew more than Percy did. I didn't like Movie Annabeth for most of the first film either for the same reasons I'm about to list below, please keep that in mind.

My issue will come here; if Percy starts to take a backseat to his own show just so we can highlight how great and awesome Annabeth is and girl power rules and whatever, I'm going to be very, very miffed. Again, it's fair for me to worry about this now because Disney is all tell and no show when it comes to women. Just like they did with Marvel, just like they did with the most recent Disney Princesses, it's more important to them to show how woke they are instead of caring about the actual stories they tell. And I'm Middle-Eastern, so don't even try any of that self-righteous white woman racial crap with me, okay?

I know I'm saying what a lot of people probably think but aren't allowed to say, but -- call me crazy -- I want the show based on the Percy Jackson books to focus on Percy Jackson. To be honest, I've never loved ANY of Rick Riordan's female characters, save for Ana from Daughter of the Deep, as well as the other female characters in that book, but that's not even in the Percy Jackson world, so it doesn't count. And I ONLY say this now because, again, Disney has SUCKED with their female characters. It's all pandering and nothing but pandering.

The first book especially always frustrated me with the way Grover never really seemed to defend Percy against Annabeth's snobby behavior, so this aligns fine. I'm not really saying anything against the character either (not yet), as this frustration with how unfair and snobby she is towards Percy very much aligns with the book. I guess I was just hoping that since I always hated Annabeth in the books and she was actually likable in the second episode, that maybe the show would be better about her portrayal. I was actually thinking how cute they would be as a couple in the second episode, but now? I'm kind of back where I was with the books, I don't see why she deserves him, not yet.

Much like Grover was in the episode, I was just looking at a lot of her behavior as Really? The guy had NO reason to invite you on this quest, you NEEDED him to pick you, and you still act like he's the idiot for caring about his mom and not knowing anything about this world that he's just found out about, and it's so freaking entitled, I --

I've been part of the Roswell, New Mexico fandom since season 1, and I know just how ridiculous people get when you DARE criticize a character who HAPPENS to be played by a black actress. I don't give a crap. I'm critiquing the CHARACTER here, and I'm disappointed, not with her, but the writing itself. It's too soon to tell, I know, but I do hope Disney is better about Annabeth's character than the books were, because I saw Book Annabeth as rude, selfish, and unfair, it bothered me that everyone in the story still idolized her despite how toxic her behavior was (save for Percy, but just in the beginning, and then he was fine with her hitting him and calling him stupid all the time), and I saw glimpses of that in episode 3, so I'm hoping for better.

Also, that whole, What are you afraid of? conversation felt so weird and forced. They JUST started the quest, Percy is throwing in suggestions, Annabeth treats him like he's stupid for it, and then demands to know why he's scared of who he is, and I'm like ?? What warranted that question? He hasn't used his powers yet, he hasn't refused to use his powers yet or talk about his father or anything, so why would he seem afraid of who he is? It just makes no sense.

Honestly? At this point, I just feel bad for Leah because Annabeth is a very difficult character to make likable in my eyes, and it's made worse when the writing won't allow her to be any better.

Aside from that, I really did love the episode a lot. I wish Grover had done more to defend Percy in the beginning, but he did the same thing in the book and he eventually did step in. Medusa was actually great. I hated the actress's character in the Flash, so I was wary, but she really knocked it out of the park. I love some of the extra details they put in, like Percy giving her a chance because of his mom and kindness (fatal flaw, if you know you know), I LOVED the consensus song, and YES! I was SO worried they wouldn't have Percy send Medusa's head to Olympus, but they did and he was perfect and it was AMAZING! When Annabeth said that what Medusa said isn't what happened, I would've liked an explanation of what actually did happen. Then again, it feels like there's a bit too much exposition already, to be honest. Like there were more creative ways to explain Thalia, there were more creative ways to explain Annabeth and Luke finding camp, and I don't know if it's because I've memorized the books at this point, but it feels like so much of the episode is just dedicated to explaining things that don't really need explanation or could be saved for later to show through flashbacks or something. I don't know, just more creative than standing and sitting there while someone explains everything.

It works great sometimes, like with Sally and Percy, but other moments just feel very... exposition-y.

I love this show. It's the highlight of my week. I maintain that we are getting the best possible adaptation. It's just because I love this story so much and it's so sacred to me that I can't help but critique. I don't think the books are flawless (i.e. the female characters), so it stands to reason that I won't find the show completely flawless either. Is it still sacred to me? Absolutely. Percy Jackson has always been too important not to nitpick, I think.

87 Raph is your fav I get that he’s hilarious. I am curious about your opinion what your general thoughts on other iterations of him?

Omg I love all Raphs!

03 Raph is super fun, I love how his anger is handled. And he's such a chill Raph. Though I am a bit sad that he got his entire arc in the first season and got a bit sidelined after that.

12 Raph is also super fun, he's my second favorite 2012 character, (after Leo, sorry Raph.) I love how short tempered he is. He's actually the voice of reason in most cases, which is really interesting to me.

Idw Raph is just awesome, I don't really have much to say considering I only read the first 2 volumes. He has a strong sense of justice, and strives to do the right thing. He's figuring everything out, he has a family, and he's so stoked about it. He's just such a happy Raph. And I loveee how his anger is a parallel to splinters. Something that's unique to him specifically is that he only really gets angry when he defends his friends and family. His anger is very much tied to his sense of justice.

Other Raphs usually get angry when they feel mocked or inferior, but idw only really gets properly angry when his family is getting hurt. I'm specifically thinking about when he tried to murder Casey's dad and splinter adopted Casey. That was probably one of my favorite idw scenes, when splinter held a weapon to Casey's dad's throat, almost killing the man just to bring Raph to his sense's. The running theme of Raph being the most like splinter is so fucking interesting to me.

The thing about 12 Raph is that he's exclusively angry when he feels inferior, or mocked. Whenever his bros are in danger he doesn't tend to get angry. He usually gets really worried and concerned. Sometimes he even freezes up.

2012 Raph is constantly frustrated, and he doesn't know how to express those emotions in any way besides anger. And when he does lash out he's told to suppress his emotions, leading to bigger outbursts later on.

12 splinter has very weird ideas of how to raise children, an it makes sense considering how he was raised. But I feel like it's quite damaging to Raph and Mikey specifically. (I won't be talking about Mikey, this is about Raph.)

Raph doesn't have a healthy way of dealing with his frustrations, so he channels it through anger. And the only advice he gets about his anger is suppress it more. Which doesn't work cause he isn't just angry all the time, anger it just a blanket covering up what he's actually feeling.

I don't have anything to say about Bay Raph. Hes got no thoughts, brain empty.

I don't have the energy to dissect 07 Raph.

I don't really have much to say about rise Raph, the fandom has already said anything I could possibly say about him. Idk he's nice I guess, I do like him a lot, I just take him at face value. I haven't watched the show in a long time, though I remember that I really liked him while I was watching.

Im also a little surprised by how many non-americans are in the fandom, the commentary that the show makes broadly about the culture of america and very specifically chicago could be more alienating than other tv/movie exports so the fact that it still resonates is interesting and super cool to me. i tried to watch the UK version and just felt like i didnt grasp the cultural context

literally the first time they hooked up in Mickey's bedroom, like you could just tell these two matched each others freak and the love story that unfolded just grew so beautifully and organically

headcannon headaches (pls help/j)

Context: ok so i have this incessent need to make my story as canon compliant as possible, and this goes for most fandoms im in. I'm flexible with some stuff (for example, i'll always have erasermic be married in my mha writing, i'll always have wolfstar exist in my mauraders stuff), but when it comes to timelines i am pretty strict.

a friend of mine once told me that my story fit so well they forgot it WASN'T canon and it made me so happy that I'm striving to do that even now.

ok onto the actual issue

I'm writing fic with Sammy in it and I've always headcannoned him as like, a bible-belt-farm-kid-oldest-son who didn't talk much with most people but MAN could he play that old piano at church like an extension of his own body and he doesnt have many friends but WOW can he make up a song on the spot and get everyone dancing in 2 shakes

i was kind of thinking south carolina. baptist. livestock farm. can you guess what they had? Sheep. :D

and this was all fine and dandy! except that Sammy somehow has to be working in New York as a teenager in 1922 in a cinema ! AwEsome......

I averaged it out so that he was around 15 or 16 in 1922, because thats kind of average teenager age making him around... born 1907, about 6 years younger than Joey Drew. which is fine, because that fits based on Joey's autobiography.

the PROBLEM is who in their right mind would have their teenage son move STATES all by himself to get a job at the cinema in new york im so freaking rigid that i don't want to change anything but... yknow, show must go on

OK so ive thought of... some solutions?

Have him be from a more northern bible-belt state. Virginia maybe. Still not great that he's moving states as a teen though

"starving artist wants to pursue his dreams" trope, maybe he could run off to the city with Jack or something? it could fit. downside is he'd never finish highschool. Which i suppose is fine. I personally don't think he had much musical education anyway (thats for a different post)

His father somehow gets a job in the city and sammy goes with him. This way he can finish highschool, but it does kind of take away part of the farm stuff i wanted and thats... not ideal.

Nope, not fic at least. I've done a few co-writing projects for other stuff, but most of the time it didn't really work out / wasn't for me. Only exception: A short story for one of my Vampire the Masquearde RPG campaigns that I wrote together with a friend a long time ago. Batshit insane stuff. Good times. 😆

what's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I started a really fucking awesome supernatural horror that took place in rural Maine for Wolfstar as well as actually a Fae/WWII au (inspired by the Bastogne episode of BOB) that I will not be finishing for... reasons.

The ringing in Remus’ ears is so loud he almost doesn’t hear Sirius. There’s a sharp pain on his tongue, rot and muck coating his taste buds. He cannot breathe, his hands shake. He thinks he may be making a noise. In his head there is a voice. His mothers his voice except he doesn't have a mother does he? Not since he was seventeen and whole. His mother’s voice crooning in his ear as she once did around the green 1960’s kitchen.

There’s a bird who sits on a tower. There’s a bird who sits on a tower - who sits on a tower, with beady eyes so clever.

Where did that scar come from?

“А bird who sits on a tower…” He mutters. 

“Pardon?” Sirius asks, snapping Remus out of his thoughts. 

He starts. 

The cabin is up ahead, peeking between the snowy trees like a warm wooden refuge and even at the sight of it Remus feels an uncurling of nerves in his gut. His flesh settles back onto his bones and the ringing eases back to a manageable level. He watches a sodden bloody bee drag her dying body across the dashboard. 

“Cults...you were saying?” - Factis ut credam facis

“Hello there Sir Raven.” He says with a chuckle “I don’t suppose you’re one of the King’s are you? Or Churchill perhaps. That would be quite a long way to travel.” 

Sirius puffs up his feathers and clacks his beak at the Man because even though he didn’t quite understand what the Man meant, he knew a compliment when he heard one. Bravely, he hops closer, the warnings of his parents and even of James ringing in his ears. But the shiny thing is dangling free and curious from the Man's neck and he must know what it is. 

“Haha. What a handsome fellow, handsome indeed. Much more well fed than we all are.” The Man laughs, setting aside his Paper and rummaging around in his Clothes. “Still, I bet pickings are getting a bit slim nowadays, even for a clever old Raven. Have you had digestives before?” 

He holds out a hand, nearly as large as Sirius himself and as elegant and pretty as the branches of a willow. All of the Man was like a tree, sharp lines and slightly less sharp curves. There was something in his hand, sweet-smelling and crumbly. Sirius turns his head first one way then the other, regarding the hand with both beady eyes as the warnings of his people ring in his ears. James' voice be careful plays at the forefront and he shakes out his wings in irritation. Man would catch him. Man would hurt him. Capture him and take him away never to be seen again like his Uncle Alphard. Man did not understand magic and magic did not like Man and so Sirius too, did not like Man. Men who burned and tore apart forests, who killed his kinfolk and killed animals and killed each other. And really, Sirius just wanted to understand. It could not be this man, with his quiet words and his offer of food who had destroyed his people. Surely there were other men, cruel men, who had done this and so it would be okay for Sirius to be brave and a little bold. 

“That’s a handsome old boy.” The Man whispers. 

Well that does it then, surely no evil Man would notice how beautiful I am. He must be like my other man with the Paper. Sirius thinks, leaping into the air just long enough to snatch the prize from the Man’s hand and retreat far enough away to devour the sweet treat with his clever beak. It was delicious, dry and crumbly and so sweet that it makes him shiver. He hops boldly onto the Man’s hand, searching for the last crumbs of the food between the cracks and crevices of his skin. - untitled WWII/Fae fic

actually unrelated to everything ever i need to get really sappy for a second at ass-o-clock at night

it's been like two(ish) months since i've properly rejoined the mother series fandom and good God i have been having a fucking blast, the community is so nice and everyone is so darn cool it astounds me sometimes why anyone would spare a thought towards little ol me making my silly fanart

and, getting a bit More personal here, i usually worry constantly about losing interest in my hyperfixations. it's part of the reason i usually don't make sideblogs for my interests, because i get scared i'll just abandon it in a few months

the mother series has been the exception (obviously, im literally posting this From the sideblog), and I think it's just because the community seems so much...... less intimidating, i guess?? because it's much smaller than fandoms for more popular stuff. i don't feel as scared actually Interacting with people and being an actual part of the community

i like being able to scroll through the tags and my notes and recognize most of the people there, it makes it feel like a little neighborhood lol

........right, anyways. i don't feel the same intense dread about eventually losing interest (not that i think it'll happen any time soon, don't worry SKFHFKFHDKF) because i'm just.... having So much fun in the present. like, who cares if Yeah Eventually I'll Burn Out, what matters is if im happy Now!!! and i am!!!!! very happy!!!!!

now for anyone who is interested in me rambling way too much:

Joining the Smoshblr community 💚

I got into smosh at the start of this year bc of the Reddit stories videos (I watched a couple smosh vids over the years before, but never consistently followed their releases). They became smth I looked forward to every week and lead me to check out more smosh videos in general! I also remember checking the tumblr tag for smosh back then and being a little disappointed, that the fandom was fairly inactive, barring a few exceptions <3

And then the reunion happened and it took me like 3 whole days or so to actually realizewhat went down 🙈. Bc I saw the thumbnails for the interview and the 2t1l vids and was just like “Aww, it’s so nice that they are friends again and doing a collab! 😊 (I’ll watch these later tho…)” Little did I know that finally watching them would turn my year around in a way that I could have never seen coming!

Suddenly the Smoshblr community exploded with activity and so so many lovely ppl joined and started sharing their thoughts and feelings about the reunion. And while I wasn’t an OG fan by any stretch, it really felt like there was magic in the air/ on this platform! 😹💕

I’ve been into fandom for more than half of my life by now. But I’ve never really gotten “personally” involved in any active communities. Just someone hovering on the sidelines and simply liking & reblogging stuff from time to time.

But with this community smth just started to click for me and made me to get “more out of my shell” or whatever idioms might apply here. And this allowed me to meet so many awesome people!! 💖 Special shoutout to @wiggog-y-hecox 💜, who was literally my first friend in this community! I still so fondly remember our talks about your cool smosh AU concepts! 🤗💙 And also to @swiftllama 🩵 for discussing so many taylor swift lyrics and ianthony with me (+occasionally good omens too 😹💕) And also @japhan2023! 💚 I know we’ve been chatting on and off since the beginning, but I am also so so happy that this month in particular allowed us to grow even closer!

2. Spommy nation 💜

So we’re moving into the middle/end of summer now on the timeline for this one. I was in the middle of writing my bachelor thesis and really going through it mentally bc of that. Getting deeper and deeper into the Smoshblr community also lead me to check out more smosh fanfics in general. Which is how I discovered the fic the right side of my neck (still smells like you) - jovenshires (imdeansgirl) - Smosh [Archive of Our Own] by our beloved @jovenshires 🩷.

Now I’ve told Katie <3 this story before so I’ll keep it brief here; but basically smth about this fic was incredibly comforting to my overworked brain. And I’ve reread it more times that I’ve ever read a fanfic in my life before that. And I truly think it has forever changed my brain chemistry, and also made me very attached to this ship (aside from the fact, that spommy is genuinely such an amazingly adorable ship with incredible amounts of potential, like!! I don’t wanna downplay that bc of the chemical reactions in my brain around that time 🙈) Some more stuff happened which eventually lead me to become friends with Katie, who is truly one of the ppl I treasure the most in the world at this point 💖

But I also wanted to mention Spommy nation as a whole, bc this subsection of the fandom is filled with so many kind, creative and just generally amazing people!And I also just love all of us freaking out whenever we get new crumbs for this ship lmao 😹💕

3. Smoshblr December asks 💛💙

I doubt anyone didn’t see this coming 🙈😹

So, I had been meaning to do smth inspired by the “Shayne guesses” series for a while now (also the fact that the official smosh compilation of those vids dropped this week, near the end of this challenge, is so funny to me for some reason). But I never quite figured out how to do it, since I knew guessing for eachother would be difficult. And if I just started randomly messaging all the blogs I’ve followed with an onslaught of these questions, it might get a bit weird or overwhelming 😅…

⚠️slight too personal ramblings ahead, that I don’t wanna force on anyone without warning⚠️

And then, towards the end of November, I gotta be honest, I was really not doing well, especially mentally. (First masters semester and I was still sorta dealing with the damage I caused to my brain while writing the thesis and barely getting two weeks between defending it and starting the new semester to truly recover from it all) And I knew december would get worse, bc I still hadn’t finished all the Christmas presents for my family, assignments were piling up & I kept on catching way too little sleep.

So all of these stressful thoughts made me think “You know, a lot of other ppl are probably struggling with similar stuff rn, especially during these dark & cold times of the year. So why not try to do smth that might bring some joy or fun into other ppl’s lives?” And that’s how I literally typed up that initial post, two days before December started without having planned it for more than a literal day or so 🙈😹 (I did already have a long list of questions, bc I started doing the top 3 stuff in my friendgroup, but rearranging everything to fit the sorta 3-day cycle I wanted to do, still happened up until last week lmao; tho I always knew that this would be the last question <3)

For the character thing:

Can you do Suitcase, please? (She’s my favorite!)

Favorite thing about her: Genuinely, she's one of the characters that I really like the most on S2, although thanks to the fandom treatment I have to watch s2 in order to remember the things I liked about her as well, but in general I just think that Suitcase is a very kind hearted character. I usually talk about how Mic has an heart of gold, but Suitcase genuinely does as well. She has done no wrong in the whole s2, except for laughing at Knife's doll, but she's also just. Very mature emotionally, which makes sense. The thing that I like about her the most is how she's still full of love but knows when to put her boundaries first after what happened too. I can relate to her- well, could, since I felt like that once.

Least favorite thing about her: The same thing I said about Nickel. It's not a bad thing since it also makes it work out on canon, but I think that one of the main factors as to why their relationship gets misinterpretated the most is because from how one-sided Nickel's and Suitcase's relationship is. But that's not quite true at all. Suitcase did care about Nickel/saw him as a friend of sorts, or mutual friend because of Baseball. She genuinely had a sort of appreciation for Nickel, but the way Nickel saw things was very different (but Suitcase is aware that Nickel "tried to" protect her, but he just kept pushing her away), and this is explicitly said by Knife.

Suitcase tends to see the good in others so of course she would hope that Nickel genuinely means it when it comes to giving Balloon a chance, and yet... I just think that I would want to. Rework the way they were written on early s2, since that has an effect as to how they ended up being. To make stuff more emotional on Suitcase's part.

Favorite line: "Baseball, you can't just... fix it. It simply just won't go away. But you're here. You're listening. You're trying. So... thanks."

Random Headcanon: More than a headcanon it's kind of based on canon, but making art of any sorts makes her feel relaxed and process her feelings well. She likes doing paintings, yes, but she also enjoys doing crochet and making sculptures. Maybe even got into photography too, or writing. It really helps. And meanwhile I do think that Suitcase doesn't know how to cook, she can really do good stuff if she follows the recipe with time and with someone else too.

Unpopular opinion: SHE'S AWESOMELY PANSEXUAL 💥💥💥💥💥💥, I think that Suitcase suffers as well, one of the worst treatments in the fandom, and that would be her infantilization on fandom terms. I know that it is a thing on fandoms for people to pick on sweet/well intentionated characters to dumb-ify and/or infantilize, but Suitcase's is one of the worstvcases I've seen, ESPECIALLY regarding fanon Nickel. People treat her as this hopeless, naive and weak character when she's not.

She struggles with mental health a lot, sure, and she really sees the good parts of people and tends to hold onto things she thinks about eother, but she's not a "kid" just because of that, neither should be treated like one either. Suitcase is one of the most mature characters in the series (not surpassing Knife of course), and she knows a lot about those troubles on general. Nickel hurted her, yes. But she cared about Nickel enough to believe that he could still change. She hoped that he would get her input as in finally realizing what he did wrong. I genuinely just hope that once Nickel and Suitcase get reunited, people can actually realize how emotionally mature she is. Y'all treated her so poorly.

Would you be willing to work for a official Ben 10 series if asked?

I think it would definitely be the greatest opportunity of a lifetime and everything I could probably ever want, but I would have no idea what I would be doing. There’s so many different technical aspects I’m completely in the dark about, and I barely have any know-how about the animation industry. I follow people that have worked it in and I try to absorb what I can about their experience, but even then it’s so different from actually doing it.

The other issue would be having to deal with network executives and corporate meddling. The stuff I hear crew members have to deal with pisses me off, so not having concrete creative control would be a nightmare.

But I think my biggest issue would honestly be the backlash. Ben 10 isn’t Spider-Man levels of big, but it’s definitely a powerhouse for CN and is part of the public consciousness where people easily recognize it (despite how it’s shifted through the years). It has its fans, but with those fans comes entitlement and demand. All ranging from boring, to outlandish and outright stupid like a continuation of OS where it retcons everything (except UA) and its Ben 10,000 and he’s super cool and awesome and he kills Vilgax and there’s blood and swearing and sex cause it’s an anime on adult swim or some other ridiculous bullshit. They want it to be the same as before except grown up with them and that’s just…not what it is tbh. Everyone wants something different from the premise and it never feels like they’ll be happy with what they’re given.

I kinda see it like TMNT or Transformers where you have a basic outline and you can transform/change it in multiple ways and you can make it deep or “elevated” compared to what came before. I would like to do something with it, but I’ve been around this fandom for a long time so I can tell you that, for a show where the main character they adore is supposed to transform into something else for the better, they don’t really want anything new from it. And I really wouldn’t want to face the same sorta hatred that was unfairly given to crew members after OS.

(Me babbling) After playing some of the games and joining the fandom, I fully expected him to be more popular??? I think he's cool as shit and APPARENTLY underrated! Like, Oh Em Gee, when his DLC dropped? His move set in MK1 is insane. We should be talking about him more.

QUAN CHI? QUAN CHI, YOU MEAN MY BELOVED QUAN CHI????? 👹

OKAY, so- I adore Quan Chi. Always have.

I played the original arcade games growing up (local arcade was the only one within miles and it kept the og games years after most arcades started to shut down) and when I tell you Quan Chi made me so happy when I was super young.

I really, REALLY love him in all the games, but MK1 especially. We get to see him pre-shang's-experiments, then after, when his eyes turn red, right?

But he just- he's beautiful. His voice is phenomenal, his emotions and inflections are stunning, and he's so wonderfully modeled that it actually hurts my heart in such a good way.

He's sexy as hell and I'm not afraid to say it.

He's MORE than cool as shit, he's fucking awesome! Not only is he cocky and keeps his massive grin, but we get to see so many little sides to him we as a fandom haven't ever explored before (such as- the apparent tenderness he actually seems to have in MK1, because there's a few scenes where he's actually pretty gentle-seeming.)

He seems far more... Drawn out? Or his words do. His movements are only sharp and quick when he wants them to be, but he holds himself high despite it all.

We get to see Quan Chi with far less of his experience from decades of sorcery unlike other games, where he's, of course, used to his powers. He's still equally good with them, but there is that sense that he's still learning in MK1 because it all just happened, yk? As in, the events that made Quan Chi go from his normal self and his life as a miner to more of Quan Chi as we know him.

Even still, he remains incredibly powerful, talented, and intelligent, able to manipulate about as well as Shang, but he's got a genuine side to him Shang just doesn't. (Perhaps it's Quan Chi's voice?)

I stand by the idea that Liu Kang was making this timeline one-handed, because hhhhhooooooly fuck, everyone is sinfully gorgeous, and Quan Chi is NOT an exception to that whatsoever.

Between his voice, his outfits, the way he holds himself, that massive grin he as in certain finishes, his smaller smile he gives Shang Tsung a few times during the storyline, and that arched nose??? Oooh boy, he ruins me.

I actually need more people to love him (and several other characters) more, and I need more Quan Chi content.

His powers are always wicked cool- and powerful- but in MK1, he just EVISCERATES anyone he's pitted against. It's insane!

His moves are not only crazy cool, but also crazy strong! He's so awesome dkdjfj

And as a long-time player, lemme say- when I was a kid, I thought he'd be more popular too. He's more mentioned, rather than content really being made for him, unlike more popular characters like Johnny or Liu Kang. (And frankly, there's several characters that I think need more love throughout multiple MK games, MK1 included ofc)

All in all?

Quan Chi is:

-hotter than sin

-his voice made me need to put down the controller and force myself to breathe for several minutes on multiple occasions

-his moves and fatalities are badass on so many levels

-he's cool and sexy and badass and I might be a little obsessed with him but there's NO content of him 😭
