Christ, this is reminding me of my old ‘90 Camry. I had to start it by banging the starter coil with a wrench.

And my old ‘84 Tercel. Had a wet plug. I kept a spark plug wrench in the car with spare spark plugs and replaced plug 1 every couple months. I sold the car to a friend (for $1) & a year later it threw a rod, from that same iffy cylinder with the wet plug.

I guess the moral of this story is expect this from old Toyotas.
