i.1: Favorite book that was read to you before you could read?

…I actually don’t remember not knowing how to read. I started reading when I was 2, and one of my earliest book-related memories is telling my mom that I wanted to just read to myself, that it was faster and I could read more books that way. Another early memory is of reading our loud to my 17-months-younger brother. I’ve always preferred either reading to myself or doing the reading to being read to.

i.2: Favorite book that you read before the age of eight?

The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare. Or possibly From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konisberg.

i.3: Favorite book that you read before the age of thirteen?

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

i.5: Favorite book that you read for a class in high school?

Probably Lord of the Flies by William Golding. I read a bunch of classics in high school that were either meh or unenjoyable, but I did like that one.

i.7: Favorite book written in the 19th century?

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

i.17: Favorite book that you stayed up too late finishing then couldn’t sleep?

I’ve stayed up way too late finishing many, many books in my life, but I don’t think I ever had trouble getting to sleep afterward.

i.19: Favorite book that feels bright and radiant?

So, this might be a weird answer, given that something fairly sad happens at the end of the book, but The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. I think it’s the fact that most of the story takes place in space, in a fairly hopeful and amazing future, that makes me feel that way.

ii.1: What book is your least favorite book assigned for school?

Either Charles Dickens’s Hard Times, which felt like it took years to read, or George Eliot’s The Mill on the Floss, which was plodding and depressing.

ii.2: What book is the first book you remember reading?

One book I remember from very early childhood is The Monster at the End of This Book: Starring Lovable, Furry Old Grover, a Sesame Street book by Joe Stone and Mike Smollin that my brother LOVED. He wanted it read to him constantly when he was a toddler, and it was a fun book to read out loud, so I read it to him a lot.

One of the first books I remember having a big impact on me is the classic picture book One Morning in Maine by Robert McCloskey. I was about six when I read it, and it sparked a fascination with Maine that lasted for years. (I finally got to visit Maine in my mid-20s, and it’s a beautiful place.)

ii.3: What book is the last book you remember having read to you?

I honestly don’t know. Probably one of my kids reading something out loud to me.

ii.5: What book is the book you’re most likely to recommend to someone regardless of who it is?

The Princess Bride by William Goldman. I actually buy it every time I see it at used book shops or thrift stores so I have extra copies on hand to give to people.

ii.7: What book is the worst book you’ve ever read by choice?

If I’m reading a book and I don’t like it, I stop reading it.

iii.1: Character who reminds you of yourself?

Meg March in Little Women. She’s a big sister, she’s very practical and responsible, and she maybe does that thing where she ignores her own emotions till she can’t ignore them anymore and then they kind of erupt a little bit. I relate to her and love her a lot. (Ditto for Beezus Quimby in the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary. I loved Ramona but I always felt so sorry for Beezus.)

iii.2: Character who is the best narrator?

I have a big soft spot for Claire Walsh in Marian Keyes’s Watermelon. She’s a mess but she loves with her whole heart and she’s really good at finding the humor in things.

iii.3: Character who you looked up to most as a child?

probably Dicey Tillerman from Cynthia Voigt’s Tillerman Family Cycle.

iii.5: Character who you could analyze indefinitely?

Harry James Potter. ♥︎

iii.7: Character who you would NEVER date in real life but find attractive in theory?

…can I just plead demisexuality here? Jaime Lannister from George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. Really, a lot of the characters in those books are really fascinating in that they’re all depicted in many shades of gray.

Beth and Jennifer from Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. Robin Ellacott from the Cormoran Strike books. Ginny Weasley from the Harry Potter books.

Lizzo, definitely.

5. TV show of the year?

Euphoria, it definitely hooked me. I’m also gonna cheat a little and say “When they see us”, I don’t even have words to describe what watching those 4 episodes did to me but I definitely think this is a must see even though the story is so hard.

9. Best month for you this year?

September. It might be weird to pick the one where I dislocated my kneecap in the middle of a concert in front of like 2.000 people, but a lot of good things actually happened. Like @suttonbradyy came to Belgium, we got to see Hozier (I’m still so sorry that you didn’t see the end of it Suzana :(), I got high for the first time even though it was on painkillers, I didn’t have to work the whole month, far from home got leaked so I could watch it on repeat, I bought tickets to see freaking Taylor Swift for the first time next year, so maybe it was not the best but at least it was the most memorable one

14. Favorite book you read this year?

I’m ashamed to say that I did not read a lot this year, so it’s actually going to be an easy pick: The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

22. Favorite place you visited this year?

I’ve only traveled to Slovenia this year and we went to Piran which was so beautiful, but the whole country is to be honest so.

Okay, so if getting my Community movie counts as a reboot, then I’ll say that. If that doesn’t count, then I’d say The Mick or Psych

5. what’s your comfort show?

I watched all of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia when I was struggling with depression a couple of years ago and when I still watch it now it calms me down

6. which shows do you think are underrated and need more love?

Psych and Community are two of the most creative, unique shows I have ever seen. Their ability to be incredibly funny in ways that really hadn’t been done before continues to amaze me. I really wish MORE people would acknowledge how incredible they are versus being more of a cult-favorite. I’d also say that Chuck is a show that really doesn’t get enough love. The characters are incredible, the writing is great, it often subverts tropes and the writing is fantastic.

12. have you ever watched a show just for a specific actor? did you enjoy it?

Yes! I’ve actually done this a few times. I started watching (and enjoying) Single Parents for Leighton Meester and Brad Garrett. I also watched A.P. Bio for Glenn Howerton and it sucks

21. if you could be a guest star on any show, which one would it be?

Hmmmm I’d want to guest star on Reign solely for the clothes and then I’d want to guest star on That ‘70s Show so I can be around Mila Kunis 

23. are you a fan of will-they-won’t-they plots?

Holy fuck, YES!!! But it has to be done well. For example, Ross and Rachel from Friends blew the excitement of their will-they-won’t they because it became apparent that the writers were only keeping them apart for the sake of a dramatic series finale. In the instance of Fran and Maxwell from The Nanny or Jeff and Annie from Community, their feelings for each other are made pretty clear throughout the series as well as it making sense within the world. It’s only a matter of timing and working certain things out. Did that make sense? Idk but I would die for that trope if it’s done well

26. favourite TV show theme song?

okay, I definitely can’t choose so I’ll narrow it down to like three: (1) Community; (2) Game of Thrones; and (3) Psych

30. what’s one show you could probably write a 2,000 word essay on, and what would be your topic?

So in college, I 1000% wrote an essay about an episode of That ‘70s Show. But, I’m going to think more about present-day me. If I had to write a 2,000 word essay on a show now it would probably be either the development of Chuck and Blair’s relationship from Gossip Girl or how Total Drama Island screwed up their entire show and character dynamics by having Duncan cheat on Courtney with Gwen

35. who are your top 5 TV characters right now?

fuck, I always spend forever trying to decide. so here are my top 5 in no particular order:

3. Do you read WIP (works in progress)? Why or why not?

I often do, but not always. If I see a WIP recced by someone I know on tumblr, I’m more likely to read it than I am if it’s an unknown author. Ditto if it’s an author I’m familiar with, and really like. The main reason I don’t read a WIP is if it’s very suspenseful, because I’m a wimp and I can’t handle suspense, even when I KNOW the author is gonna write everything to a happyish ending. :P (e.g., @ladyinredfics‘s recent fantastic Game of Thrones S8 fix-it, the Edge of Tomorrow AU Battle is the Great Redeemer, was one I had to wait and read when it was finished, and even then I had to read it in pieces and skipping around because it was intense.)

On a side note, I once got a notification for the final chapter of what I thought was an abandoned fic a decade after the previous chapter had been published. The author had just gotten swept up in life stuff and had moved on to new interests, but stumbled across the mostly-finished final chapter one day on an old hard drive, and she polished it up and posted it with a note about how much she had appreciated all the support and comments over the years. So. You never when an apparently abandoned fic might get finished. :)

23. What do you wish more fic authors would do?

Write detailed episode tags for TV series filling in the gaps and tying all the loose ends together. (The Stargate SG-1 series Aftershocks by Rachel500 is my gold standard in this regard. I have not given up hope that she’ll complete it one day!)

24. What do you wish more fic authors would stop doing?

Uhhh I will read literally almost anything when it’s written by an author whose writing I like, so I think everyone should write whatever they want. Often, the fics I’m the most skeptical about turn out to be the ones I enjoy the most because the author so clearly LOVED writing it. It really is true that you should write what you love and trust that your people will find you.
