Así, un nuevo competidos se podría sumar muy pronto en la industria, la marca canadiense 4iiii; esta empresa mejor conocida por su medidor de potencia para el lado izquierdo con valor sugerido de 399,99 dólares; y la nueva propuesta que se ha podido apreciar montada en las bicicletas del equipo Etixx Qucik-Step, en una opción mejor acabada denominada Precision Pro. Características del medidor de potencia 4iiii Precision Tal como es empleado por el equipo, el medidor de potencia 4iiii Precision Pro es un nuevo dispositivo para medición del lado izquierdo y derecho, proporcionando una conectividad Bluetooth y ANT+; y aunque aún no hay gran información disponible, el nuevo modelo podría ser una opción más ligera, reclamando que sólo añaden cerca de 25gr al set de bielas. The former world champion and Tour de France star is back with his old team 

Mark Cavendish is taking an exciting step in 2021, as he re-joins an old team after a tough few seasons for the Manxman.

Cavendish has signed a one-year deal with Deceuninck – Quick-Step, having previously raced for the squad between 2013 and 2015.

The British sprinter, winner of 30 Tour de France stages, has had a tough few seasons dealing with illness, crashes and contract negotiations, but Cavendish now says he feels like he’s “coming home.”

Deceuninck – Quick-Step, the Belgian WorldTour squad run by Patrick Lefevere, have unveiled their new kit for 2021 and have shared a picture of Cavendish donning the new colours, albeit without showing the 35-year-old’s face.

Cavendish will be wearing the navy blue strip, but with the added details of the world champion’s bands on the sleeve and neck, celebrating his 2011 Worlds win.  

Deceuninck – Quick-Step have opted not to show a full picture of Cavendish in the new kit, as riders are contractually obliged to wear the kit of their current team until the end of the calendar year, but Deceuninck found a way around the rules.

The team also recently unveiled Julian Alaphilippe’s reigning world champion’s kit, as he has made a few subtle changes to the design for 2021.

After his signing with Deceuninck was announced, Cavendish said: “I can’t explain how delighted I am to be joining Deceuninck – Quick-Step. I have never hidden my affection for my time with the team and to me this genuinely feels like I am coming home. As well as the incredible group of riders, I can’t wait to start working again with the staff, most of which were here during my first spell and were part of one of the most successful periods of my career, an era that I am immensely proud of.”

During his first spell with the team, then racing under the names Omega Pharma-Quick-Step and Etixx-Quick Step, Cavendish added three Tour de France stages to his tally, took five Giro d’Italia stages, won the British National Championships, and took a Kuurne-Brusselles-Kuurne title.

Pro Cycling Sponsorship: Quick-Step Will Always Trump Deceuninck

In 2003, the remnants of the disbanded pro cycling team, Mapei – Quick-Step, merged with Domo – Farm Frites to form Quick-Step – Davitamon. Under the leadership of Patrick Lefevere, the team has had a stranglehold on the Monuments since its inception, winning Milan-San Remo three times, the Tour of Flanders seven times, Paris-Roubaix six times, Liege-Bastogne-Liege once, and Il Lombardia twice. Not to mention an additional 32 Classics victories.

Last season, the team had 68 total wins, including: Milan-San Remo, Paris-Roubaix, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, Strade Bianche, E3 BinckBank Classic, La Flèche Wallone, and Clásica de San Sebastián. And the guy that won three of those Classics, Julian Alaphilippe, also won two Tour de France stages and held the yellow jersey for 14 days. When you think one-day race domination, and all-around cycling juggernaut, you think: Quick-Step. And that should make the marketing department at Deceuninck really mad.

To pro cycling outsiders, the sport can seem quite enigmatic. It’s a sport raced by teams and won by individuals. And the teams are hard to follow. Unlike most sports, where teams are tied to a geographic location and identified by a mascot like the Boston Red Sox, Manchester United, or Dallas Cowboys, cycling teams are known by title sponsors.

Those sponsors can change as well, sometimes in the middle of the season. Persistent name changes are pretty common in cycling and often teams will have multiple sponsors in one hyphenated team name, like Trek – Segafredo (a US bike frame manufacturer and Italian coffee company) or BORA – hansgrohe (a German cooking range manufacturer and German shower/faucet manufacturer). Typically, the primary sponsor (e.g. Trek) pays more. Along with prominent placement in the name and logo, being the primary sponsor is beneficial in the heat of a race.

Often, the second name will get dropped when a commentator is referring to the team. For example, EF Pro Cycling was known as EF Education First – Drapac p/b Cannondale during the 2018 season. The announcer might say something like, “The EF rider has attacked,” which is a little less laborious than saying the full name. It’s also beneficial to Education First. The problem is, not all primary sponsors are getting the most bang for their buck.

The aforementioned Quick-Step – Davitamon is now known as Deceuninck – Quick-Step. Over the past 18 years, the team has been known by seven different names: Quick-Step – Davitamon, Quick-Step – Innergetic, Quick-Step, Omega Pharma – Quick-Step, Etixx – Quick-Step, Quick-Step Floors, and since last year, Deceuninck – Quick-Step. The common thread is pretty obvious: Quick-Step. The Belgian flooring company has sponsored the cycling team since its formation in 2003 and has become the most iconic name in pro cycling. That’s a valuable piece of marketing for a company based in cycling-obsessed Belgium. Quick-Step’s biggest asset as sponsor is brand continuity. It doesn’t matter which name you throw in front of “Quick-Step,” people are still going to call the team “Quick-Step.” You have to think Deceuninck is not getting its money’s worth by paying for that primary title sponsor position when the Quick-Step company is irrevocably tied to the team’s brand identity.

“People are more loyal to riders than they are to teams. Part of the problems with teams is that the names are the sponsor names which change every three years. Unless we change that structure, it is hard to build fan loyalty,” said Zwift CEO, Eric Min, on a recent episode of the CyclingTips Podcast. There are a few cases of teams attempting to establish some level of brand continuity amidst persistent name changes. In recent years, Deceuninck-Quick-Step has become known as “The Wolfpack” with their 2020 jerseys even featuring the outline of a wolf’s head. EF Pro Cycling, which has gone by a dozen different names over the years, tried a similar strategy by branding themselves as “Team Argyle” with the argyle pattern consistent across their kit over several seasons; regardless of sponsor name or color scheme. But these attempts at establishing brand loyalty feel pointless and haphazard in a sport that drags fans along on an ever-changing sponsorship rollercoaster. EF Pro Cycling (then Cannondale-Drapac) for example, almost went out of business in 2017. Why commit to fandom of a team when you know they are simply going to let you down?

Deceuninck – Quick-Step does have some level of brand loyalty within cycling, but like all teams, it’s fragile and not beneficial to all of its title sponsors. Amidst the coronavirus epidemic, it’s an even more fragile situation. Deceuninck-Quick-Step team boss Patrick Lefevere recently said, “If we don't race this year, I'll no longer have a team.” If Quick-Step pulls its sponsorship, then it becomes a completely different team. If the team disbands all together, which Lefevere predicts will happen to half the pro peloton if no racing occurs again in 2020, then the sport itself will look quite different.
