my chilshi marriage comic is not only about to become my most popular dungeon meshi comic, but one of my most successful art posts ever??? which first of all I'm very grateful! I'm just really shocked cause 1. gen stuff tends to do better than ship, at least for this fandom 2. I didn't think that many people liked chilshi????

Thoughts on Echo as amputee/disability representation
First and foremost, I am not disabled or an amputee and I donā€™t claim to speak for those communities (and if I was I couldn't speak for everyone). What little I do know mostly comes from this youtube channel (@oakwyrm), this post, and other research Iā€™ve done for my writing (and like one amputee I kinda knew in passing). By all means correct me and add to the conversation, I just have some thoughts I want to share because I havenā€™t really seen this discussed anywhere
Overview
So Echo is interesting. He is a triple amputee which is pretty rare in media. His disabilities come from extremely traumatic circumstances: injured in a near-death experience, imprisoned and dehumanized as an experiment with no autonomy over what happened to his body.
There are a few moments in the shows where Echo is treatedā€¦ questionably. Like this bit where Rex uses him as an example of the Separatists' evils to convince the locals to fight back:
Tumblr media
To be fair, yeah Echoā€™s treatment does prove that the Techno Union is not neutral like they claim. The modifications that everyone is gasping in horror at here obviously werenā€™t made with comfort and accessibility in mind, nor with Echoā€™s consent. But you still just want to be sure that ā€œThey took away his freedom, his humanity, they tried to turn him into a machineā€ is about using him as a living computer, not the fact that he is missing limbs.Ā
The Batch is also pretty insensitive toward him and his trauma imo, which is weird considering they've supposedly also faced discrimination for their mutations
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Disabled people do have to deal with stuff like this in this day and age so I guess it can speak to those experiences. I think especially him being mistaken as a droid (and Hunter going along with it (bruh)) might resonate with some people.Ā
Aside from that stuff, Echo isn't really treated any differently as a character/person which is really good (as low of a bar as that is).
We get this moment in CW where Echo contemplates that yeah things are gonna be different now
Tumblr media
While also (imo at least) showing that he is still the same person regardless, evidenced by the fact that he just echoed Rex :,) I also think it's significant that he joins the Bad Batch on his own terms and we're given a really emotional scene to specifically show that he's not just like 'lumped in with the other misfits' but that it is his choice to go where he feels his place is.
A lot of people, myself included, are disappointed that TBB didn't have more time to explore Echo's PTSD, but I think the one panic attack scene we did get is really good. Even thought it's minor it at least is an appropriate reaction from a guy who was medically tortured (which is more than I've come to expect from Star Wars shows lol)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it's really sweet to see Omega showing Echo some empathy and consideration.
It would have been nice to see more of his adjustment period, and other side effects like chronic pain and maintenance, but thereā€™s a lot of daily life stuff the show never had time for (i.e. we donā€™t know if he removed his prosthetics to sleep, but we also never saw him sleep anyway). His disabilities might take on a background role (much like the character himself sadly) but for the most part they arenā€™t invisible or erased, nor do they define his character and arc.
Physical Appearance
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay this one is bit dicey, bc on the one hand, yes complaints that Echoā€™s paleness (most likely caused by burns from the explosion or chemical burns from the cryo-chamber) is whitewashing are totally valid. But I also think you can draw comparisons to real life conditions that affect pigmentation/complexion (like you know burns). So while I understand why a lot of fanart will depict him with his original skin tone and with hair, consider that there are real people who have to live with temporary or permanent changes to their appearance, and the idea of ā€œfixing" him by making him look more like his old self can be problematic.
It's also interesting to note that Echo could act as a reversal of the 'disabled/disfigured = evil' trope. He's pale and bald and wears black and red, which is so often visually associated with villains, but we all know Echo is the bestest boyā„¢
The Headpiece
Tumblr media
Echoā€™s headpiece is interesting because within the show we donā€™t actually ever learn much about it (idk if there is more info in books or whatever bc i donā€™t have them so?). He didnā€™t have it in CW so we know it didnā€™t come from the Techno Union and therefore Echo probably had more choice with it. We donā€™t know its exact purpose but itā€™s most likely related to his scomping abilities. When he is hacking with his scomp in CW, before he has his headpiece, itā€™s clearly very mentally straining:
Tumblr media
We donā€™t see him struggling like this in TBB once he does have it (though that could be bc he got more used to it over time). There doesn't seem to be much of an impact when he removes his headpiece in s3 ep14-15, except that he gets stuck in the ports every time he uses his scomp which is not something weā€™ve seen before:Ā
Tumblr media
There might not be an exact real-world equivalent, but the headpiece is some kind of accessibility aid. It means that someone specifically designed a device to help him adapt to the changes the Techno Union made, as well as a helmet that integrates it. Itā€™s removable and visually very present, much like a cochlear implant would be. (A lot of people actually headcanon it to act partially as a hearing aid, since it makes sense that Echoā€™s hearing would have been damaged in the explosion, but there isn't really any indication of this in canon.) The headpiece is never really acknowledged in the show, but I think that's a good thing. It's something he needs/wants and it just exists, completely normalized, and that's pretty cool šŸ‘
Legs
Sigh... So from the very first episode of TBB I was really disappointed that the animation team or whoever completely visually erased Echoā€™s prosthetic legs (I think we all were, honestly, if fanart is anything to go by). Itā€™s one thing when heā€™s in armor because he would probably want to protect his prosthetics, but we literally see him in his blacks and there is no indication whatsoever that he lost his legs even though it was not left up for debate at all in CW:
Tumblr media
Like ??????!?
This is just really strange to me! Idk what went on behind the scenes with this decision but I donā€™t really see why it would be that much harder to animate or anything since itā€™s 3D and they've done it before. We do see some pretty sophisticated cybernetic technology in Star Wars canon that mimics real limbs:
Tumblr media
But Lukeā€™s fancy hand is technically 20ish years from now, so Anakin and Maul are more of a representation of what level we could expect here
Tumblr media
So yeah, for no apparent reason, his leg amputation is effectively, visually and narratively nonexistent. Which is not great šŸ‘Ž
Arm!
The scomp on the other hand (uh lol!) is the complete opposite and I kinda love it!
At first I, like many others, thought it was a bit odd that they didnā€™t give Echo a prosthetic arm. Losing hands is basically a Star Wars tradition at this point, so robotic arms/hands are well established within the worldbuilding:Ā
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We arenā€™t necessarily given a canon reason for why Echo doesn't get a cybernetic arm (again unless it's in some lore book I havenā€™t read, sorry). General fanon explanations Iā€™ve seen are that he either couldnā€™t because the Techno Union wired the scomp too far into his nervous system, and/or the resources to give him one were deemed too expensive for a clone (what about his legs tho?), or that he chose not to, usually because he thought the scomping was useful.Ā
Regardless, I actually really love this choice (and it's the whole reason I made this post), because here's the thing: Thereā€™s a lot of problematic tropes out there that either erase/cure disabilities or compensate them with perks (like how pretty much any blind character is actually not blind by some sort of magic power). With amputees that is done with robotic arms. The character is still an amputee or course, and there is still value in that representation, if this story from Mark Hamill that makes me tear up is anything to go by:
Tumblr media
but for the most part these characters function like anyone else, just with a limb that looks a little different. Itā€™s no more than a video game skin, an able-bodied actor with a green screen glove. It ā€œcuresā€ the disability, or it actually makes the character even stronger than usual:Ā
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It usually makes sense within the world of the story, but the reason itā€™s not so great in my opinion is that in the real world we just do not have technology anywhere close to that yet. Prosthetics can more or less replace any mobility from lost legs, but not for all the complexities of a hand (and even if they could the average person wouldnā€™t be able to afford it).
So
I think it's actually really super cool that Echoā€™s scomp bypasses the canonically-established amputee erasure and functions much like a stump would irl. He integrates it into his movements and everyday life and itā€™s (as far as I know) a lot closer to an everyday amputeeā€™s experience.Ā
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It doesnā€™t define his character, it doesnā€™t hold him back, he lives a full life, the otherā€™s donā€™t treat him any differently, and heā€™s still a total karking badassĀ
The only additional thing is that he sometimes uses it as a weapon (which given his story, I think itā€™s cool to see him taking back autonomy in a way, and we only see that like twice)
Tumblr media
And also the scomping, which could be seen as the 'added/compensating superpower' trope. But narratively it's no different than if he was plugging in with a hacking gadget of some kind (he didn't necessarily "need" to lose his arm for it) and itā€™s not like Echo is completely defined by this skill. Personally, I think it's well worth the positives of him actually having a visible and realistically impactful amputation.Ā
I see a lot of posts or comments out there that say stuff like ā€œhow come Echo doesnā€™t get a hand?ā€ or fanworks that do give him one and I just think itā€™s a bit of a shame. If he did get a robotic hand, it just would have disappeared the same way his legs and Anakinā€™s arm did (aside from that one time he got yoinked by a magnet). When Echo did ā€œget a handā€ in the last two episodes there were comments like ā€œyay he finally got a hand! but it doesnā€™t even workā€ but I was actually so relieved that it didnā€™t! Bc for one thing that wouldnā€™t make any sense, he grabbed it off a droid, it wasnā€™t designed to implement with his scomp, that would be really complicated. But more importantly because it again refused to erase/cure his disability! It functioned like a real-world cosmetic prosthetic (useless beyond appearance) which is exactly what he needed it for, so that he could blend in better with his disguise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And he continually took it off throughout the episode and ditched it at the end. He only used it for the necessity of a stealth mission, he doesnā€™t feel the need to visually ā€œfit inā€ in his daily life.Ā
And, last but very much not least, he made a dad joke and from my intel that is very accurate representation!
Tumblr media
TLDR: Echoā€™s scomp is actually really cool from an amputee representation perspective, especially within Star Wars, and I think that deserves some appreciationĀ

IM SO HAPPY TO SEE SOMEONE INTERESTED IN MY RANT T-T
I donā€™t have much to add onto your first points as I feel youā€™ve hit the nail on the head basically. However seeing your perspective on the UI was quite nice. It definitely can be left up to personal preference. Smt vā€™s UI is definitely meant to be more discreet as youā€™d said. It would most definitely be weird for it to have the same pop as persona 5 considering each games themes. I suppose my disappointment in it is that thereā€™s so many different ways to make UI now a days for games. I simply wish the designers had put in meaning behind it? Along with the fact that I donā€™t feel itā€™s the most streamlined system it could be. Although thatā€™s a different tangent that has nothing to do with why SMT doesnā€™t stick as well as Persona. Along with the fact Iā€™m not game designer so itā€™s not fully my place lol.
Iā€™m so happy you mentioned the music as well! Iā€™d been wanting to add it into my main post however at the time I hadnā€™t fully listened to SMTs music in the same way I had personas. However between then and now I have. For starters Iā€™d say that both games music fit where theyā€™ve been placed. Some of the music for the boss fights rlly bad me exited in SMT V. Same as music for persona. But I agree when you say Persona music pops within the JRPG industry. I would also say that the genre of music in those games (the jazz, hip-hop, j-pop) also works to keep the games in the public eye because they are simply that good and catchy. For example when watching YouTube videos or streams that may have to do nothing with Persona and Jrpgs Iā€™ll hear persona 5s beneath the mask in the background since they work as fantastic background noise, not to in your face distracting from the video, but still a banger to listen to. I always find myself going ā€˜oh hey persona 5ā€™ and Iā€™m sure Iā€™m not the only one. I find the almost non-game like music in persona (especially the songs that have lyrics) make it more appealing to the majority to listen too outside of the game. I know myself and many others have persona music in our playlists because itā€™s that good to simply listen to.
In terms of gameplayā€¦ Iā€™d say Persona is alot more friendly? Than SMT? Iā€™d say both games combat systems are good, but SMTs system can be harder to understand and grasp. This may also be partially why the SMT series is labeled a ā€˜hardā€™ JRPG. An easier Game System definitely makes new fans connect more Id say. There are exceptions (elden ring) but thatā€™s what I find happens the majority of the time. If a system is to hard to grasp many people wonā€™t wish to pick it up and learn the mechanics. Take this at face value however as Iā€™m personally a little fuzzy on the details and thoughts inside my brain.
My last point kinda connects to the changing team aspect youd mentioned with demon collecting. As youā€™d said itā€™s hard to feel connected to a team you need to constantly change. Iā€™d also say that in a way the demon collecting, fusing, essences. Can be overwhelming to new players as well. Hence turning them off as it can be hard to grasp (I cry in persona trying to fuse specfic personas with specific skills for Elizabeth- even with the persona compendium!) so basically having to do that along with changing affinityā€™s may be a lot. Although this is leaning more towards ā€˜why people wonā€™t pick up the game/continue itā€™ I suppose.
Persona is far easier to understand as youā€™d said. I think partly why this may be especially for the west is that personas story comes first, and then the mythology of the personas adds to it. While mythology is an integral part of SMTs story and characters. This can definitely make it harder for people who donā€™t care about mythology, or other countries mythology, to have a hard time grasping things. However, personally. I feel that this integral part of SMT in the form of mythology makes SMT unique, and is part of the why it remains a classic. I guess Iā€™m trying to say it has its benefits and drawbacks.
Take this next part with a slight grain of salt. Iā€™d say SMT requires a decent bit of delving, media literacy if you will. While persona (especially 5) slaps you in the face with the themes and ideas and goes ā€˜pick a sideā€™. Although both of these (again as youā€™d said lol) have their inherent appeal. Really depends how you like your stories. I suppose it can be said that a itā€™s far easier to get into something that slaps you in the face, THEN, after dig deeper. Instead of having to dig deep from the start the way SMT makes you
But ya. Both are good games for their own reasons. Both have things that make them unique, that make them good, that may be lacking. Itā€™s definitely just interesting to look at them, look at the distance between popularity and current fanbase and go ā€˜why?ā€™
Thank you for indulging me! Youā€™re view point was much appreciated!
With SMT V: Vengeance releasing, it got me thinking. Why is persona so much more popular than smt? I mean Go on tik tok and look for persona 5 edits and youā€™ll find sooo many. Look for smt 5 edits and thereā€™s barely any.
I thought it over just a little, and in my mind (after a small amount of thinking and ZERO research) I think one of the main reasons is that Persona is characters with a story. While SMT is a story with characters. On top of persona looking better.
Further explanation under cut (lil talky talk for anyone interested)
What I mean with ā€˜Persona is characters with a storyā€™ is that the story is there to drive the characters, and allows the characters to grow. The social link system definitely helps this. Youā€™re connected to the characters in a way that SMT doesnā€™t allow. I believe that itā€™s because of these characters that people keep coming back.
SMT is a story with characters however. I find that SMT uses the characters as a way to move the story. The Order and Chaos endings are the main focus. The gods are the main focus. The characters you meet along the way are a means to and end to get to these endings.
Weā€™ll look at Persona 5 and SMT V. For these are the latest games in the series (not including P3R). In persona we watch the characters slowly change. These characters are also usually the motivation behind the story. Ann and Ryuji telling us about how they were abused by Kamoshida. Giving motivation to steal his heart. Yusuke and Madarame. So on so forth. We slowly watch these characters grow and change. However I feel SMT V doesnt do this. The demons threaten the lives of the people in Tokyo, so ofc we as the Nahabino help. There are characters who help us along the way. But they donā€™t have the same impact as the characters in Persona 5 do. SMT V characters are good, but donā€™t compare to Persona 5s characters imo
Thereā€™s also the ā€˜flashy-nessā€™ of persona as compared to SMT. One of the most disappointing things of SMT V for me is the UI. Going from P5R and P3R to SMT Vā€¦ they just donā€™t compare, SMT V is lacking. Now I donā€™t feel this is a complete deal breaker, but it is definitely not working for the game. The games fighting system is also very similar, and I feel Persona just does it better? With all out attacks, baton passes. Theyā€™re not completely the same, big difference being having people on the team compared to demons. Along with the MC switching personas on the fly compared to essences. Still they run similar enough to compare.
Now this isnā€™t to say games that are ā€˜storyā€™s with charactersā€™ are always bad, or donā€™t ever stick in peopleā€™s minds. Iā€™d also classify Devil May Cry as a ā€˜story with charactersā€™ type game and youā€™ll find the fandom for that is still going strong with barely any new content. I just feel that when not executed perfectly it can make it harder for the games to stick.
This also isnā€™t to say that SMT is a bad series or SMT V doesnā€™t get love. SMT V is a fantastic game. However I feel the fandom for it is a bit lacking, especially when considering Persona has such a big fandom and is a spin off of the SMT series. So this is my personal take as to why that is.
This line of thinking came about when Hyperfixation got to me and I went to interact with the SMT fandom and noticed how small it was when compared to Persona lmao. Anyways no hate to either series or fans of said series, I love persona and SMT (and also Devil May cry, I own four and five lmao, Nero my beloved-)
Not sure if this make a lot of sense lmao

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well. I did say that only one person needed to ask and I'll share. So here you go @raisedbythetv89 @richtea-biscuit
The actual academic essay I wrote and submitted is available to read here (x) for now at least, but as it was written for an assignment with a set word count and parameters, I ended up having to take out the section I had originally written about Cordelia and also there are a lot of references to the set textbook readings I was given. So it might not be the lightest of reading.
Essentially the essay poses the argument that for all the supposedly progressive feminist intentions of the show, we regularly see gender and sexual stereotypes still being reinforced within the show especially through the way that the women are treated for their relationship with sex. That is to to say that while the ā€˜Scooby gangā€™ typically seems to contest gender norms, with the male characters often appearing as submissive to Buffy and the female characters themselves each threatening gender norms in their own way, the intimate relations between the characters often undermine these initial contestations. In my essay I explore this through comparing Faith and Buffy's relationship with sex during the early seasons of the show.
Below is my section on Cordelia which unfortunately didn't make it into the essay, followed by a summary of my essay points on Faith and Buffy. I'm mainly sticking to seasons 1-3 for this essay because while I do mention season 4 at one point briefly, the introduction of Riley and Tara mark a change in the nature of sex and what it means in the show.
Part 2 (which is a look at Willow) has also now been written and can be found here (x)
Cordelia Chase
Cordelia starts out as a mild social antagonistic force to our Scooby gang, she is a bully. As the show progresses though she slowly starts to build connections with them, however she isn't allowed into their group until she is depicted as having romantic feelings for Xander, rather than just sexual. When it comes to Cordelia and Xander's relationship she is the dominant one. She has more social power than him and the Scoobys, as well as being more financially and academically stable than him. She also is the only one with a car, meaning she is the one who drives them to their dates. And while this at first seems to be challenging gender stereotypes of powerful men providing for an attractive but weaker woman, the problem is that she isn't allowed or accepted into the Scooby gang until after she sacrifices her social privilege to commit to a public relationship to him. Prior to this sacrifice any relationship or attempt at casual sex we saw Cordelia make was framed as shallow behaviour from her to be scorned or done for comedic effect. We see both her and Buffy seek intimate relationships in these early season, but only Buffy's attempts are framed as sympathetic. It was only when she expressed an emotional connection to Xander that she was presented as a sympathetic character to the audience.
Buffy Summers
Buffy and Angel are the first intimate relationship we see explored in the show and so it's the one that sets the audiences' initial expectations for intimacy. While Buffy is dominant within her social groups and her general use of violence to defeat enemies is something that we would say challenges gender norms, she rarely maintains these traits (or at least they are made much weaker) in scenes that explore her relationship with Angel. Once she's romantically interested in him she routinely takes a submissive role in their relationship; she goes to him for help and advice, places his well being over her role as a slayer, and waits for him to be the one to define and initiate their relationship.
Ā Unlike Cordeliaā€™s early relationship with Xander, the audience is meant to be invested and sympathetic towards Buffy and Angel. From the get go we have it established that the two love each other, but despite their doomed fate we are meant to want to see them together and therefore we are sympathetic to Buffy's attempts at intimacy with him. When they do have sex and Angel loses his soul, these painful consequences is sometimes seen to be done as a punishment for Buffy having sex, but I think it's more to do with the tragic nature of their gothic romance rather than that - because Buffy and Angel did have the emotional and psychological connection that the show requires in order for their intimacy to be viewed as 'good'. In contrast though, once they break up we see Buffy try to have sex casually with other non-supernatural students but this only results in her getting hurt. When she and Parker have sex he dumps her the following day after using her; which is her punishment for attempting to have sex with something who she didn't really love like Angel. Buffy's also interesting in that her attempt to have a not only loving but sexual relationship also sets her apart from the other slayers - Kendra doesn't have sex, Faith doesn't do emotional intimacy, but Buffy tries to have both.
Faith Lehane
Faith gets to be the sexually free and explorative girl that Buffy is unable to. While she does struggle to do so, within the first three season Buffy does successfully create and sustain a heteronormative relationship that is both sexually and emotionally intimate. While Buffy might flirt with other guys that aren't Angel, she's still easily the "good girl" who cares more about the emotional connection with a guy than sex; in comparison Faith is someone who presents very confident in her sexuality and actively seeks casual sex without any emotional connections. If Buffy is seen to be masculine because of her traits as a slayer than Faith can be seen as hyper-masculine. So she challengers gender stereotypes in that her seeking casual sex and her dominant flirtatious behavior are traits typically reserved for a stereotypical "bad boy" type of character.
When Faith is first introduced to the show as an ally to our Scooby gang, her sexual confidence and behaviours are initially something that Buffy herself wants to replicate. The only time that we actually see her engage in sex on screen however is when she initiates sex with Xander, which coincidently also marks the last episode where she is considered to be someone trust worthy. Faith is the one to initiate sex with Xander, and she remains in a dominant position of control of the scene that we observe. The moment seems to subvert the trope of the confident male "deflowering" the inexperienced and submissive women (who in this scene would be Xander). However the scene is immediately cut with Faith kicking Xander out of her apartment after he tries to initiate an emotional connection with her, and this is framed for comedic effect. By framing their whole sexual encounter as comedic, it's undermining how Faith's sexual confidence seemed to challenge gender roles and instead framing deviations from expected heteronormative behaviours as something to laugh at.
It's also important that the very next episode (Bad Girls) is the one where we clearly see the descent of her mental stability as her reckless behaviour (both sexual and violent) in one-night results in her accidentally killing someone. What was initially seen as traits of a sexually confident woman, and therefore challenging gender roles, then becomes depicted for the rest of the season as signs of her mental instability and her eventual role as an antagonist. This is her punishment for engaging in casual sex; for not having the emotional or psychological connection that is needed for sexual actions to be accepted or approved of by the narrative.
Conclusion
Within the first three seasons of Buffy we see that the female characters are able to challenge gender roles in many ways, however this isn't extended to sex. They can enjoy and seek sex out at times, however they will suffer as a consequence if they don't fulfil certain heteronormative conventions during those times.
Buffy and Faith are allowed to be powerful slayers who are in charge, but in order for their power (and how they challenge dominant ideologies) to remain acceptable it needs to be limited to their battles in the streets rather than in the sheets.

Steven Universe: A Complicated Relationship
Tumblr media
Iā€™m starting to fall out of love with this show. I used to be obsessed with it and it was important to me as a way of figuring out my gender and sexuality. Yet, my relationship to it has become more complicated as of late. Iā€™ve defended it myself and have been passionate about it, yet seeing the way a lot of stans have acted has kind of ruined it for me especially due to dismissing any criticism. This is not me saying I hate it or think itā€™s irredeemable Nazi propaganda but not everyone who dislikes it watches Lily Orchard and there are valid things to criticize about it.
Thereā€™s definitely bad faith criticism of the show such as flanderizing Steven into a crybaby with those Jack Horner/Hitler memes or claiming it was made to attack Christians but some people do have valid points. The episodes Bismuth and Gem Harvest may have not intended to come off as racist but one could interpret them as forcing people to forgive their abusers or bigoted relatives. As someone whoā€™s Asian and knows about the way weā€™re represented, the way Priyanka and Doug were portrayed in the early seasons as tiger parents has not aged well.
Tumblr media
One other criticism Iā€™ve seen is that the show copies a lot of old sci fi or anime tropes without recognizing the issues with them or removing them from their original context. I and others have compared the showā€™s ending to the Highbreed arc from Ben 10 Alien Force. The difference is that the Highbreed were treated as supremacists who needed to be stopped, not as abusive family. People can debate over whether they should have gotten more consequences but they were not treated as dorky relatives. The only one Ben befriends was a low ranking officer who became the new leader and convinced the high council to accept having their DNA changed. Thereā€™s also the human zoo, another sci fi trope thatā€™s aged badly with the racist implications.
The series is also compared to a lot of anime. Thereā€™s references to Ghibli, NGE, Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball and many have compared the showā€™s idealism to that of magical girl shows like Madoka Magica. The difference is that those shows didnā€™t use subjects like colonialism as a backdrop for family drama. SW suffers from that as well especially with the rebels only wanting to restore the old liberal system while taking imagery from the Viet Cong. People who wanted a revolution story werenā€™t necessarily wrong as thatā€™s what the early seasons did set up.
Tumblr media
Some will accuse me of fandomizing the war but Iā€™ve noticed a lot of the hardcore stans are white queers who support Israel or demand complete support for democrats. Not saying every SU fan is a bad person btw. There are a lot of decent people who are anti Zionist and like the show but a lot of these pop progressive cartoons as well as SW, Disney and Marvel/DC are used by people with gross beliefs to infantilize themselves and dismiss any criticism from POC fans. If mainstream kids media is where youā€™re getting your all political takes from then maybe you do need to branch out and watch more mature stuff. Watching NGE helped me grow up a lot and learn nuance.
As a recap, Iā€™m not saying SU is a bad show or that people are bad for liking it. It was important for my own development as well as a lot of lgbt youth and was a jumping point for a lot of my current interests such as classic anime or Lisa Hannigan, whoā€™s an amazing musician and is pro Palestine btw. Future did help me a bit with mental health yet people are allowed to dislike it or find that even if it wasnā€™t intentional, there are some implications that should be addressed. I donā€™t hate it and thereā€™s some stuff worth defending in it but itā€™s not the greatest show ever and people who get all their politics from it need to grow up. Between it, TOH, Dead End and She-Ra, I think a lot of the pop progressive media that we have today will not age well and thatā€™s something we need to accept.

Is it true some parts will be under water in 2025? I'm kinda of worried cause someone told me about it bc it was on the news
Eh, not really. Like, technically, but that's a very dramatic way to put it.
What that person told you about was probably this prediction, which says that some roads on some of the Florida Keys might be underwater by 2025.
Does that suck? Yes. But it's also pretty limited in scope.
(And by the way, that's probably not "underwater all the time." There will probably be a number of years of "the roads will be underwater at high tide specifically." I can't currently find a source on this, but that's how tides work, and the Florida Keys article does specifically mention them as a main problem.)
The areas in danger first are pretty universally small, very low islands. Actually, a dozen or so small islands have already gone underwater in the Pacific Ocean, but very importantly, none of those islands were inhabited.
They were mostly small reef islands (that is, the entire island is exposed coral reef detritus) and other uninhabited shoals. Mostly, they were so small scientists had to check old satellite images to even figure out that they disappeared. Literally, we're talking about chunks of land that are just 100 square meters/300 square feet. Again, not great, but still very limited in scope.
As this Live Science article thankfully explains, it's pretty unlikely that any countries at all will disappear before 2100.
Also, just because land is below sea level doesn't mean it will be underwater, and there are very real steps we can take to defend a lot of endangered cities/islands.
For example:
Much of the Netherlands is already below sea level, but the country isn't disappearing, because the Dutch have put a lot of work into building and maintaining coastal defenses.
Multiple surveys (including the one that found the missing islands in Micronesia) also found that not all low-lying islands are vulnerable to erosion and flooding. This is because many islands are protected by mangrove forests, lagoons, or both
Mangrove reforestation in particular is genuinely a super effective anti-flooding strategy that is being deployed pretty widely, and is expected to increase a lot in the coming years. Mangroves are effective at not only preventing short-term flooding, but also mitigating sea-level increases (in part by preventing erosion)
Some islands, esp Pacific Islands, have actually grown during the past couple decades, not shrunk. It really depends on what the island is made up of. Not all land is automatically doomed
You can read more about how sinking countries are fighting back here, and the lessons we can learn from them:
-via Time, June 13, 2019
And finally, and this is good news for reasons I'll explain in a second:
Some of the largest and wealthiest cities in the world are at the top of the danger list. (Note: the predictions at that link are based on some fairly severe warming predictions. They do NOT necessarily reflect what's going to happen or when.)
The cities that are going to be in danger the soonest (still away btw) include New York, London, San Francisco, Tokyo, and Dubai. Lots of very rich people in those cities! Who would really like to not have to move (any of their ten different homes lol)
So, flooding aside, we're going to (by necessity) get a lot better at figuring out the quickest, cheapest, most scalable, and most effective types of coastal defenses real fast.
Are rich countries going to be way more able to get strong coastal defense systems up quickly? Yes. Does that suck? Sure fucking does!! But these solutions don't all require a lot of money or tech to implement, even at a large scale, especially when it's local communities driving the effort.
And, importantly, when rich countries pour a ton of money into figuring this out, that will hugely expand our understanding of what techniques work best, why, and how best to deploy them in different situations. Unlike physical structures, that's valuable knowledge that can be shared very, very widely.
And any technology that comes out of this is going to work like solar panels and other green energy: as more people use it, it will get cheaper and cheaper. Probably really quickly.
So, all told, no one's going to be swallowed up in the next few years. We have time to work on this and a lot of people are already doing so.
Mostly, experts predict that the first wave of large-scale issues will be happening around 2050.
Three decades doesn't sound like enough time, in the face of something like this. But you know what? Responses to climate change are speeding up exponentially, and different types of responses are multiplying and magnifying each other.
We went from inventing flight to landing on the moon in just 66 years.
I wouldn't count us out of the climate change fight yet.
(...I wouldn't count on retiring to Florida either, though)

if youā€™re looking for stuff about necromancy as violation I always considered the cow thing to be a big example of that! Maybe itā€™s my inner 4-H kid, but itā€™s such an undignified and horrifying way to slaughter an animal IMO. Itā€™s this drawn out, grotesque death that parallels both Mercymornā€™s death and the 7ths blood cancer. Itā€™s just such a disrespectful way to slaughter an animal, and I think you can read it as Johnā€™s first major betrayal of self, especially as it relates to his indigenous roots. Anyway. Thereā€™s just so much there.
you're RIGHT and i also think this is a case of how this is a feature, not a bug of necromancy.
death fuels necromancy, but it is specifically cruel, violent death that results in the most necromantic potential. gradual death/senescence en masse gives general ambient power (necromancy only works in areas where things have lived and died) but it is a mass of sudden violent death that flips a planet. Siphoning, in both the style of the Second and the Eighth house, lends necromantic power via an exquisitely painful process that can easily end in death. Necromancy itself eats away at the tissues, leaving all necromancers essentially physically disabled (Ianthe barely had the ability to hold her arms up to braid her own hair). Babies give off the largest burst of power when they die, and the Fourth House -- a planet that could very well be filled with only children -- specializes in suicide bombs.
and then of course you have the eugenics that is built into both the Seventh and the Eighth Houses -- and the Heptentary blood cancer specifically fascinates me because of how it is positioned as, essentially, a boon. If you get death-fuel by being in proximity to death, and you yourself are always dying, then you always have access to a very personal well of power. Until you die. "A dying woman is the perfect necromancer"..... An entire House that values short-lived necromantic potential over anything else and breeds their heirs to have this violation embedded into their blood.
and that isn't even really getting into the fact that this is just the violence that the House enacts upon it's own citizens. the majority of people on the business end of necromancy aren't House citizens at all, but non-House civilians whose death and dead bodies are hijacked to serve the Empire's purpose. but that's another essay

I love giving advice, apparently, so if you are a newly pierced person or are planning on being pierced, here are some of the things I found helpful, as somebody who isn't a professional piercer but has had six plus piercings on my face and body, and multiple ear piercings (which I don't count, since I DIY'd them):
Normal bath towels are your enemy, proceed with caution after bathing. NEVER wipe moisture away from a fresh piercing, always pat it dry
You will hit a new piercing and it will hurt. This is inevitable, just know that you likely haven't destroyed it. Feel free to cry, though, it hurts like hell.
If your piercer gives you instructions, heed them. If you're on restrictions, please take it as seriously as possible
When you're going in for a piercing, please eat or drink something - at least what constitutes as a snack for your body. It really helps
If you're getting an oral piercing, make sure you size down after the healing period - I hadn't sized down for my last oral piercing when I first had the chance, and it was... so annoying to have too-large of jewelry
Not all jewelry is made equally. Do your research on materials, threading, and sizing. I've found that titanium jewelry is really nice for me, and I like it, but that isn't the only option. Make sure you think about your body and its needs and preferences
Close your eyes while being pierced (I found this really helps me)
Don't over-clean a new piercing, twice per day is usually a good place to start
The completed healing period is a very average suggestion - you may heal slower or faster. Try to adhere to that suggestion, though, especially if you do not feel you're healed enough
Personally, I have found that I am completely healed when my piercing feels like just another part of my body, even when it is touched. When my piercings start to feel as though they are foreign when they never do before, I know I likely need to clean them
While I have DIY'd piercings, I personally do not recommend it, especially if you are either not using sterilized equipment, or are piercing a very dangerous place (like the tongue). If you are absolutely positive about committing to the DIY mindset, please try to do due diligence in research at least
Tip your piercer. Body mods are a luxury service, and it takes years to even become a piercer, much less to be proficient at it. Tip your piercer, ESPECIALLY if their prices feel too good to be true - they likely are. Unless you are directed otherwise by your piercer, just assume that you will be tipping them for their services and budget accordingly
Make sure you understand how your piercer wants you to take care of your piercing, and ask questions. There is no question too "dumb"
If you are getting a body part pierced you are insecure about, realize your piercer has most likely seen HUNDREDS of different body parts of various sizes, shapes, and oddities. Your body is not uniquely bad, nor would a good piercer make you feel unwelcome or uncomfortable with your body. If they do, however, DO NOT go through with the piercing. You should feel safe being pierced by somebody, and, indeed, that is the bare minimum.
If you use saline wash to clean piercings, you can DIY it. You will go through NeilMed like no other, and with it being $5USD a bottle, that price can rack up quickly. Make sure you use distilled water and non-iodized salt, though
If your piercing is infected, please don't be too ashamed to seek help. It's in your best interest to make sure you don't get ill or your site gets nasty ("nasty" as in painful)
These are just some of the things I've learned being a pierced person! My piercings are something I absolutely needed, and I do not for a minute regret having them. I want that same happiness to befall you, and that happens when you are able to understand a bit more what goes into piercings. You are, essentially, getting a new body part installed by a pro, and so I don't want you to not be ready for that.
Again, I am not a professional piercer, but am rather a body piercing enthusiast with many different types of piercings. I don't have every piercing, though, so please look at this critically for the piercing(s) that you want or have. At least, treat this like a soft suggestion or ways to help you brainstorm what you will find helpful.
More tips are obviously welcomed, especially if you yourself have more insight or expertise. Good luck to every pierced person or future pierced person reading thisšŸ’›
#body modification#body mods#piercings#body piercing#long post#honestly i love having a professional relationship with my piercer and i feel so happy to be pierced by her#i think the client and piercer relationship is a very important aspect of getting a piercing#and i don't think people talk about that part much. you should feel SAFE being around your piercer#they are literally creating a new hole in your body with a needle. that is a very vulnerable position to be in#but i'm honestly shocked at how cheap my piercer is...#...so my last piercing was only $50USD and that included the (nice) jewelry. i feel that in that cast tipping 60% was worth it...#...i know that can rack up the cost of the piercing but especially if you LIKE your piercer (like i do) - try being as generous as possible#i personally LOVE tipping my piercer and it's the best way i can show her that i LOVE her work even when i tell her#love having a personal blog that i can be autistic about piercings!!!!! I LOVE THIS ANCIENT TRADITIONNNN#one of my profs let us write about anything as long as it was an essay and i went Insane writing about historical piercing practices#LOVE ALL TYPES OF PIERCINGS especially ones that are used to 'scare' outsiders <3#when i was a kid they used to tell us about the Mystical African Tribes that STRETCHED THEIR LIPS (scary!!!!)...#...if it isn't obvious i hate that the lip plate especially practiced by the Mursi and many others have been used for frankly rascist ideas#i brought up the lip thing because i learned a lot about iirc the Mursi practice of lip plating and it's given me more appreciation for it!!#it's ENDLESSLY fascinating and i wish i hadn't been shown the negative bias against them first

okay i meant to make this post forever ago but my personal opinion on why so many people were so dissatisfied with lightfalll (disclaimer: i am not one of these people, i love lightfall SO much), is that lightfall was kind of subjected to a really aggressive marketing campaign.
like, stick with me here, i feel like almost all the lightfall release content (the trailers especially) were so focused on battling the witness, how this battle has been centuries in the making and this is the Second Collapse Finally Finding Us, only for there to be,,, no real resolution. the end was left on such a severe cliffhanger, but not only that, there was NO battle with the witness. the witness didn't even seem to be having a hard time at all with what we WERE throwing at it.
and for narrative reasons *i* am obsessed with this ending; in terms of storytelling i adore practically every creative decision that was made in lightfall, but i think the reason that so many people were so upset about it is because lightfall had such intense marketing and was rooted in the implication that this was the End of Days, only for us to get almost no closure, and instead so many more questions.
(there's also something to be said, i think, about the fact that the people who ARE most upset about this are like, the youtube gamer dudebros who's content is very very often rooted in the aggressive, violence-and-warfare, pvp-centric, no-interest-in-lore approach to destiny, and that the people i've seen primarily ENJOYING the narrative decisions (or at least being understanding about it) are the artists and writers and loremasters of the fandom, but i'm not quite sure,,, how to expand on that point.)
#like. something something yt dudebros who are like 'uhhh destiny is about violence and war and the lore is only for people who suck at pvp#and destiny is a shitty evil game i hate it sooooo much hashtag 26871435 hours recorded gameplay' asshats#being the ones complaining MOST about the narrative in. a narrative driven game. and refusing to engage with ANY lore in a LORE HEAVY GAME#vs. the community on here thats full of artists and writers and people who actually like to analyze the story and characters#and engage with the lore and have any emotional attachment at all to the characters and world and themes#being the ones who are like. appreciative of the narrative decisions made and looking forward to where the story will take us and#looking at the game with LOVE instead of hatred and malice#and even if you didn't like lightfall!!! people in the latter category are still the people who i keep seeing be like#'yeah even if i didn't personally like it i can understand the significance of this narrative decision.'#'i acknowledge that bungie put so much time and effort and passion into making this even if it wasnt satisfying to me personally.'#'i have the critical thinking skills to understand that bungie is not a sentient malicious entity trying to ruin my life; me; specifically'#like. do you get what im saying. gamer dudebros who think the world revolves around them vs the fandom members who actually understand art#bc. thats what destiny is. its art. the whole thing is a massive art project made by a group of people that are very passionate about it.#do you hear what im saying at ALL its like two separate fandoms for the same piece of media the difference is so stark#mine#destiny 2#lightfall#destiny 2 lightfall#eos destiny essays

Okay okay fine
Weā€™ll talk about Scott (1/18 traffic analysis)
Iā€™m gonna start by saying if youā€™re a die hard Scott fan you probably wonā€™t like this, Iā€™m not the biggest fan of his. Please go look at my other posts or just ignore this.
Iā€™m starting a new thing where I just donā€™t want to ruin something for someone but I am a little hater.
Iā€™m also so incredibly biased and not in his favor.
Also just about characters!!
So with that out of the wayā€¦ā€¦
Scott!!
Honestly I think people mischaracterize him a lot. Which who cares do whatever you want forever but for the sake of this youā€™re wrong <3
Letā€™s start with 3rd life!
I donā€™t like how he treats Jimmy. Iā€™m so sorry flower husband fans I totally get the appeal!! Itā€™s like yeah Jimmy is a goof and heā€™s bad at stuff but like Scott doesnā€™t think Jimmy can do anything right. He berates him and makes fun of him to other people. Heā€™s nice to him only for the benefit of himself, so he wonā€™t drag down their team.
He expects his death.
Isnā€™t that tragic? He makes a widowā€™s alliance like he canā€™t wait for him to die. Like itā€™s expected. Jimmyā€™s not cursed yet. Itā€™s not likely heā€™s going to win or anything but you canā€™t believe in him at all? You have zero faith he can live past you?
Itā€™s so demeaning. It comes across as him thinking heā€™s better than Jimmy and I think he does believe that.
Of course in the end Scott seems pretty heart broken but the reason he doesnā€™t go through with his new alliance is because Cleo died.
Then we have the home scene at the end which is sweet but doesnā€™t make Scott any less annoying to me.
Scott never gets overcome with bloodlust which is interesting because of how many kills he has. Thatā€™s all him, no revenge, very little red/boogy bloodlust, he kills because he can.
What is the bloodlust just not strong enough for you? Too good for that too?
Okay he teams up with Pearl in last life because he hopes she will give him a life. Just for teaming up with him? And she does of course.
At least Ren had something to offer undying loyalty and willingness to die for Lizzie.
Like thatā€™s a deal worth taking.
Pearl at least is like you gotta prove your worth somehow?
Then again heā€™s trying to team up with Cleo like real shit I guess, I would too. it just feels shity to me. If I was teamed with Scott Iā€™d question whether or not he really cared about me at all.
He just comes off as selfish in any situation he can. I should probably give him a little credit, he is in a death game.
Itā€™s the way people portray him as this guy whoā€™s very morally superior and doesnā€™t play dirty.
But heā€™s ALWAYS playing dirty.
Heā€™s constantly manipulating everyone around him.
Heā€™s such an asshole to me idk
Heā€™s telling Scar that theyā€™re friends and allies but he never does anything for Scar or spend any time with him. Ditching him when Cleo tries to stay aligned with him after they get a life from him.
He very easily lies to whoever he wants to and gets away with it. His actions never catch up to him. Heā€™s never held accountable and heā€™s constantly being rewarded for lying and manipulating the people around him.
Anyway the start of my hated journey is double life because heā€™s the worst in this.
I donā€™t understand why Cleo and Scott are so butt hurt about not finding their soulmates, it was funny though so Iā€™m not upset about that.
When Pearl comes and finds him, he expects her to grovel like Martyn does. They didnā€™t really do anything wrong though? They were both properly geared up and itā€™s not like they were the only people trying to get recourses?
Itā€™s nonsensical after listening to their explanation to still be upset, but they donā€™t listen or hear them out they just want to be begged for forgiveness.
Pearl of course was not going to do that and she of course is not innocent and antagonized him after that.
Heā€™s not forgiven by me for what he did to Pearl for letting her win. She should have killed him.
That is not Scottā€™s only sin, what kinda douche builds a ranch specifically so you can make one better than your friends? The ranch by the way was also created to break up other peoples relationships while gaslighting them about that very fact.
Cleo and Scott spend all of double life trying to manipulate the different soul bounds because they are unhappy in their own.
Scottā€™s defining characteristic is being petty.
Limited life we have all the sacrifices he does, overdone at this point.
Heā€™s so cocky. I feel like people miss that. He antagonizes and tries to get people to want to kill him. Which is how Scott has killed Joel so many times.
Scott is annoying so Joel will want to kill him but he keeps getting him.
In limited life specifically itā€™s so jabansksjsjsj
Because Joel is just trying to stay in the game longer heā€™s getting desperate and a little deranged and Scott just keeps killing him. I donā€™t how many kills but it was over kill.
Ugh and how he acts around Jimmy, like respect his boundaries. MAYBE theirs a good reason he doesnā€™t want to be around you, FREAK.
Keep the stupid pufferfish to yourself heā€™s over you!!
I get the ick or whatever
Ahem
Then he lets Martyn kill him for time and then the win and like whereā€™s the drama???
Scott frfr would had another basic bitch ending like thank you Martyn for being the one interesting guy here.
Secret life
All of his actions became unforgivable when he didnā€™t let western duo team up, genuinely wanted to strangle him.
God again with the thinking you have some authority with what Jimmy does and thinking you know better than these grown people.
MAYBE some people are here for a good time, a loyal time, a fun time! Not a long time, but YOU wouldnā€™t know anything about that.
I appreciate the growth this time the final self sacrifice kill did have drama, but it was mostly Gem sounding genuinely devastated about killing him. (Idk know why thatā€™s devastating Iā€™m still upset about Jimmy and Scar not teaming)
I honestly donā€™t remember anything about real life really donā€™t count any of that as canon besides Cleo being a winner and Joel getting motion sickness really easy.
My hatred might actually be mostly the Jimmy and Scar thing and the fandoms interpretation.
I feel like heā€™s either worse than you think or just as bad but in a different way???
Kill the twink in your head.

In what order is ur fav Willy wonky?
Omg Kit- You can't just put me on the spot like that!! /light-hearted
If I really HAVE to choose from the films, it'll have to be TimothƩe Wonka - Johnny Wonka - Gene Wonka.
Info-dump below:
I grew up watching and getting obsessed with Willy Wonka through Johnny Depp from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005). I literally have watched that movie at LEAST 60 times and it's one of my favourite favourite films ever!
(I might be the ONLY one having this opinion but-) That film is the most magical thing I have ever seen as a kid and Mr. Wonka is just the most relatable person to me. Also, how can you not love THIS face:
Tumblr media
That later introduced me to the book by Roald Dahl that the movie is based off of which I read religiously. I never knew about Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) until I started seeing the memes!
Tumblr media
Fast forward to recent times- To the Wonka (2023) trailer that dropped last June..I initially thought it was a joke because I just could NOT believe they would still make Wonka stuff let alone a film. But no, it was real (and I watched the trailer a good 20 times).
Went to the cinema TWICE because I was so absolutely blown-away by TimothƩe Chalamet...It felt like I was transported back to my childhood and all that whimsy came back to me at full blast.
He's so beautifully interpreted...EXACTLY how I imagined younger Willy to be like. Literally reignited my love for Mr. Wonka of 20 years! And the most important thing to me? It's so absolutely surreal to see a Willy Wonka that is the same age as me.
Tumblr media
After that, I finally got to watch Gene Wonka twice in the last 2 months after knowing about it for idk-how-many years. AND I love him so so much too..??
He's totally different to Johnny Wonka yeah but once again- What's not to love about and relate to an unhinged chocolate man that has murderous tendencies? >:3c
It was so fun to catch all the little details / references they put in the Wonka (2023) film from that movie! Also, it makes the transition from TimothƩe Wonka to Gene Wonka all the more tragic.
Tumblr media
Sorry for such a long post and info-dumping but I just really wanna talk about him and the amount of joy Mr. Wonka has given to me over the years!
Willy Wonka never steals but he has certainly stolen my heart. ā™„

Hello Discord User Vellichorom AKA Twinkie AKA Velli AKA individual whoā€™s character I love so much who has consumed my literal every day for the last year plus that I have not stopped thinking about (literally, over three hundred and sixty five days have gone buy and every single one of them Iā€™ve had this man in my head, Vellichorom, do you know what youā€™ve done Vellichorom, you did this to me.)Ā
NOW I MAY BE UNHINGED ABOUT THIS MAN but how about I take a step back for a moment to just, talk about it? To discuss the absolute mastery I feel has been carefully and lovingly crafted into him?Ā
Iā€™m really picky about the characters I like. Yeah I am fond of characters, Iā€™ll like them and talk about them and whatever, but NOT ONCE has a character CONSUMED MY LITERAL BRAIN CELLS like Thierry has. Of course he has an amazing base to go off of, he IS THE NARRATOR, and I will admit that I absolutely ADORE TSP and all of the lore that has been crafted into him... but that alone was not enough for me to be purely interested in him for a long period of time (cough: see me not doing much tsp stuff aside from Thierry cough)Ā
The way that you have woven in every aspect of TSP and its canon into him, and then MADE IT EVEN BETTER AND MENTAL-ILLNESS-INDUCING has got me gripping the edge of my seat like a feral goblin every time you post literally ANYTHING about him ever. You blended TSP/TSPCC/adjacent lore together in a way that makes Thierry his own thing and also the perfect embodiment of the Narrator.
I have hyper fixations that wane and grow over time, things that I have enjoyed for long stints, but NEVER, EVER, Has there been ONE CHARACTER that has captured my attention so wholly.Ā
Looking at just him as a character, I adore the way you actually embrace and show off his flaws in a way that feels so human and also just like the weird fucking creature that The Narrator obviously is. You paid SO MUCH attention to detail and THAT SHOWS! IT DOES!! The Narrator is EGOTISTICAL, he is AN ASSHOLE, HE IS NOT PERFECT! EVER!I wonā€™t shit on other people for wanting that for their own interpretations, but by god if you arenā€™t one of the like, two other people Iā€™ve seen PERFECTLY capture that in his actions and behavior. You interpret the scenes in TSP/UD with such a nuanced and in depth eye with Thierry that I actually ENVY YOU FOR IT because I WANT TO DO THAT TOO. The expression of his ego balanced with his simultaneous self-loathing is just a perfect coat of icing on the proverbial cake. You miraculously made this man exactly as loveable and hateable as the straight up copy-pasted canon. I want him to suffer, and I love him so much, and I feel awful for him, and I think heā€™s an asshole.Ā
His relationship with Rosemary? Do I even HAVE to say anything? No, I donā€™t, but IM GOING TO.Ā
I seriously have never understood how you and Tomie so amazingly captured that Stanley/Narrator relationship through Gore/Guts in such an AWE INSPIRING, BEAUTIFUL, AND HORRIFIC way. Like, I genuinely do not know how to put into words the way that I absolutely ADORE this interpretation of it. The never ending spiral of desperation, need and reliance that the Narrator has on Stanley (and vice versa) is FLAWLESSLY executed and showcased with Rosemary/Thierry. I know I donā€™t really talk about Gogu as much as I talk about Thierry, but I have said it before and I will say it again, they are AMAZING, THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL, AND I CANNOT THINK OF ANY LITERALLY ANY NARRATOR XĀ  RELATIONSHIP THAT PERFECTLY EXEMPLIFIES THE WAY THAT THE NARRATOR WOULD BE WITH SOMEONE, AND THE HORRORS THAT COME WITH IT. EVER.Ā
And the most amazing part is that you, YOU, a fucking EXCELLENT, BEAUTIFUL, TALENTED ARTIST, have made THE design ever. THE. DESIGN. EVER. No exceptions. OBVIOUSLY the enjoyment of a design of a character of such a nature is mostly up to personal taste, but for one second can we stand back and think about who the fuck weā€™re talking about?Ā
We can go based off of a few things:
His VA, Kevan Brighting: Mr. Brighting is a fat, old man. He has JOWLS, he has WRINKLES, he has WEIGHT not only to himself, but his voice. OBVIOUSLY not all VAs match their characters, but when you consider someoneā€™s voice and the voice you assign TO a character, you usually want it to mimic that, and The voice that Mr. Brighting does for the Narrator is literally just that. And old, crotchety, fat british man.Ā
Specifically based on his Voice: Again, to piggy back off of what I was just saying, a character is meant to match the voice, you can hear the way he slightly slurs/mushes his words together, (which, by the way, if people didnā€™t know, slight lisps can be caused by more weight/fat being in the face! :D) You can hear him creaking around in his chair!
Based on context clues/general ideas of what the character is doing/does: The Narrator, as described in the game, is old (context clues people, context clues), codes/can create things using code, is not human (ā€˜various human sensibilitiesā€™ gives that RIGHT away) and sits in a chair coding/reading shit most of the time. If anyone looks me in the eyes and tells me that a person who does that would not at least be heavy set, I will wack them with a stick.Ā
ALL OF THAT BEING SAID: this means that YOU MADE HIM! Look at him! Look at that man! Itā€™s FUCKING HIM, ITS THE NARRATOR REAL! HEā€™S REALLL!!! I donā€™t give a flying fuck what my bias says, if I think of the Narrator I am going to think of someone that looks either like Kevan Brighting, or Thierry Ellis-Baker. There is no other thing for me. I can kinda smush other designs into it, and see it that way via The Square Hole /ref - but it will ALWAYS AND FOREVER be that. Heā€™s an omnipresent voice that doesnā€™t show himself, when heā€™s not, he is NOT WEARING A SUIT. But he is FASHIONABLE, WHO is looking at him, seeing the fact that he wears a fucking fancy, flowing, stylish cardigan WITH A GOLD CHAIN, and saying NO He LOokS lIke A sLOb??? Because you are literally wrong, I would AND HAVE worn things that are LESS FANCY than that in professional settings. Heā€™s wearing a turtleneck sweater, dress pants, and some comfy BUT PRESENTABLE shoes. If someone thinks he looks slobby theyā€™re delusional. Like what do they think? That that old man should be wearing a suit for whatever fucking reason??? In his Office??? In his chair while sitting on his fat ass? (NOT TO SAY THAT HE CANā€™T, AND I KNOW THIERRY HAS, AND CAN, AND WOULD IF HE NEEDED TO, BUT WHO ON GODā€™S GREEN EARTH, ESPECIALLY WHEN CODING AND SHIT, WANTS TO WEAR A SUIT 24/7)Ā  Also, tacking this on here at the end, you have helped SO much with my comfort with acknowledging my own body weight, accepting it, and liking myself more than literally anyone could ever have, and Thierry is a HUGE part of that for SO many reasons.
I love everything about him, Vellichorom, and it is of my humble opinion that everyone who does not and looks at him like he is anything less than what The Narrator is at his most basic, are dirty little liars who are jealous
TL;DR: Anyone who is disrespectful and disregards the expert care, craft, and love that has gone into Thierry lore and design wise can go and suck the fattest, dirtiest rock they find outside in a river, and report back to me in fourteen business days with their illnesses so I can laugh at them :)
Thank you for coming to my two+ page essay/TED Talk Uh... oh yeah this is an ask box... uh... what's your favorite fun fact about Thierry/Romary? :)

Hey Kat! o/
Could you answer your favourite question from your recent reblog '40 questions - meme for fic writers'?
I'm curious which one is your fav! (And what your answer would be ^-^)
(No pressure of course! :P)
Hello hello!
4. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?
A fair few! From a glance at my documents, I'd say about nine, three or four of which are half-formed ideas that probably won't see the light of day unless I get a sudden burst of inspiration to finish them.
I know fic usually means fanfic, but I do also have a poetry-style project I picked up a few days ago for chipping away at as atmosphere building practice, based on an irl setting!
Among my wips is a college au that I decided to create solely because it's debilitatingly funny to take Life Series and Hermitcraft events and translate them into real world scenarios.
The cactus ring? Grian accidentally punched Scar as a fight-or-flight response and, embarrassed, crashes at his older sister Pearl's house, who just so happened to need someone to look after it while she goes away for a few weeks. When he returns to school, Scar isn't there, so he tells his friends jokingly that he murdered the guy.
Cleo's stitching like tattoos? Every time someone asks why she has them, Joe, her best friend and resident literature student, gets to come up with even more elaborate and blatant lies. That's where the rumours that she's a zombie came from. He takes great pride in quoting Frankenstein and insinuating she's some modern-day version of his monster, and they both find it hilarious.
The roomies get to be roomies, because I say so. <3 When left to their own devices, Etho and Bdubs sometimes stretch the duvets and blankets between the top bunks in some sort of blanket fort to sit under while they play video games together. They dub the tradition the making of snow forts (Last Life my beloved) because it's really cold in winter without blankets. If Etho lends Bdubs his puffer jacket, that's between them.
Before becoming roommates with Scar, Grian occasionally saw two smaller Jellie look-alikes (she often accompanies Scar to classes, and since they both take architecture he's learnt her name), and assumed that by some witchcraft, Jellie must somehow spontaneously split into two. They're actually just a pair of trouble-making kittens, Katy Bee and Mr Finnegan. After moving in, Grian, resident pranker, takes them under his wing and teaches them how to properly get up to mischief.
