more discourse, sorry! this just seems like the best place to talk about this tbh
tldr; flower husbands are overrated and a lot of really cool character dynamics and relationships are overlooked because of that.
why are flower husbands such a big deal? like i can understand a small corner of the fandom dedicated to debating if their marriage is healthy or not but like. why do so many people care? it's not that unique. they refer to each other as husbands and scott's kinda a bitch and then jimmy dies and scott is sad for a little while. it just feels weird that it's one of the most popular ships in the fandom. there are so many cool dynamics with scott i don't see talked about! dl!scott and dl!cleo for example. afaik they dont even have a ship/duo name so i usually just refer to them as "a queerplatonic relationship based on mutual hatred". that's an amazing dynamic that needs to be explored more. and like. on jimmy's side. the ranchers. if you want a cute fluffy relationship the ranchers are overlooked far too often. they're not even that unpopular of a ship! but in comparison to the flower husbands they are! oh and gaslight gatekeep girlboss. love them, they don't get takes about enough. and the coral kids are canonically in a qpr this doesn't get discussed enough.
Hmm is ranchers overlooked...? I can understand non multishippers not wanting to switch over to it if they don't see a problem with FH to begin which is totally fair imo. For the most part I agree with you though. I was writing a bunch of paragraphs but instead I'll just say, I happen to bring FH up a lot because of how much opinions on it differ, and I'm in the minority to call it toxic etc (obligatory: toxic doesn't equate to nuanceless "bad") but it's absolutely integral to both of their characters' growths as I see it. Analysing either of their characters brings FH back into question again and again due to its lingering effect on both of them, especially Jimmy, and he's the character I enjoy delving into the most. I think most Scott dynamics have gotten decent attention (I myself, would love to see more on Scott and Gem though) but FH is definitely the most popular. It also has a lot of history outside of traffic, Empires s1 especially, and I absolutely understand the appeal and how people would find it a cute, problem-less ship, so I'm not surprised by its popularity. Some dynamics are also very reliant on FH as a driving factor to me, like Pearl and Jimmy

Hi guys here’s Sakurai’s interview from the Ultimania Material. It took a while to edit the translations and post because of Cloti Fall Festival, but here it is! 😊
Sakurai continues to be king. You can really tell how big of a fan he is not only of Cloud, but of FF7 in general. Oh and his favorite lines including conversations with Tifa? You love to see it!
More behind the cut~
Q: Please share your reaction when you first heard that FFVII Remake would be made.
A: In 2005, I went to Venice for the international film festival for FFVII Advent Children, and the topic of doing a FF7 remake came up during a break when I had a meal with Nomura and others. I remember at the time how they’d “like to make it a reality someday,” and I was unseemingly thrilled when they said “finally the time has come.”
Q: How did you feel when you knew that the development of Remake’s story would be a little different from the original FF7 and FF7: Crisis Core?
A: Honestly, I was surprised. I got input on what changes they were making little by little as I recorded, but they were not just making the game beautiful with current technology, but reworking the game’s world to be reborn… I remember getting chills when I understood the meaning of “REMAKE.”
Q: What kind of performance plan did you have in mind for playing Cloud in this FFVII?
A: Just about all FF related titles were made with the instruction and direction by director Nomura and sound producer Shimizu. This time I also had the stance of “understand the general story and the rest will be at recording”. Cloud was made by many people and I devoted myself in expressing that.
Q: The development staff had the intention of “wanting to show an uncool Cloud in Remake”, so what did you keep in mind for that?
A: FFVII released in 1997 was text based, but I had the impression that Cloud acted cocky and young in the opening (laughs). Even in the Remake, I believe that his unstableness was thoroughly expressed. Him feeling “uncool” is up to the discretion of the player, so I’d be happy if they could see that as a human touch... Even uncool Cloud is meaningful, and quite nice.
Q: What kind of impression did you get from Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie, who are more realistic than in the original and voiced for the first time?
A: Sure enough, the presence of these three was big. They’re a part that I, who experienced the original FFVII in real time, strongly felt once again in the Remake. The characters stood out visually and were very appealing. When looking at them from Cloud’s perspective, his attachment to them is extraordinary.
Q: Among all the repeated “Cloud is frightened by Sephiroth scenes” in the Remake, which one was the most impressionable?
A: All the scenes with Sephiroth were terrifying, but the most impressionable was the Lifestream. I was surprised he showed up there. Players that know the progression of the original FFVII were no doubt taken aback. Suddenly an unknown FFVII is shown on the screen and leaves my eyes wide open. Is it a new future, or…
Q: Please share what kind of things you kept in mind during the scenes in the flower field where Cloud could talk with Aerith, Tifa, or Barret on the night before rescuing Aerith from Shinra.
A: This “variables that change who he talks to [that night]” aspect is one of the real charms of the Remake. I don’t remember the details when recording, but I was vigilant for Barret’s scene. Kobayashi’s Barret flies far beyond my imagination in a different direction than I expected, so there were many times when I would get caught up with that enjoyment and end up having Cloud’s character be off… I believe that this destructive force came out from Kobayashi’s unique potential. It’s not fair that he hums the victory fanfare melody (laughs).
Q: What kind of performance instruction was there for your rapid line of, “I don’t need your feedback, there was no other way,” when Tifa notices crossdressed Cloud?
A: I was ready for it (laughs). Those are words prepared when assuming a situation he couldn’t avoid. He's frustrated and resentful, embarrassed, and he’s talking to Tifa; that line is a result of mixing various emotions.
Q: When Cloud got a hand massage, that was an unimaginable reaction from his usual self, but what were you careful of when recording that scene?
A: For that scene at the massage parlor, I tried to see how far they would permit an aggressive performance. I recorded around 3 different recordings and did not know which one they would use. That’s how amazing Madam M’s technique was… how about it (laughs).
Q: What is your most memorable Cloud line in the Remake?
A: That’d be “not interested”. That’s all.
Q: Were there any lines and scenes from the original game that you especially wanted to act out?
A: This would also be “not interested”. Other than that, there were many conversations with Tifa, but it was fun to have Cloud make slightly out of place comments. Scenes where he’s messed with by Avalanche were also enjoyable.
Q: Please share if you have any unforgettable memories while recording.
A: I was very excited to see the game footage while recording, even if it wasn’t finished yet. I was like, “Awesome!!” But I’d be embarrassed to expose that to the staff, so I played it cool.
Q: After the Remake, has your impression regarding Cloud changed?
A: It hasn’t. Experiencing a massive scenario has actually deepened my understanding better. I was able to update myself a little bit with Cloud’s input.
Q: What do you think makes Cloud so appealing?
A: Sure enough, Cloud’s cool! His appeal has increased in the Remake. I believe that being able to see his slightly off, quite human side from his existing image is a plus for him.
Q: Please share your expectations and enthusiasm for upcoming Remake projects.
A: I’m always ready to go! I could go right now! I can’t imagine what happens next so I’m a little scared, but even so I want to know what happens! And I want to play it as soon as possible! I’m really looking forward to the Gold Saucer. I’m eagerly waiting for it!!
Q: Please give a message to fans of the FFVII series.
A: I’m happy to be able to participate in a historical work as an actor, but my happiness as a fan wins over. I have also been waiting for this time like all of you. We just have to wait for the next one. Let’s share the joyful moments that will eventually come!

OH SPEAKING OF, when you’re feeling up to it, do you writing little bios of the Idol family and a really loose explanation about the AU (and how it ties to BMC), which I could follow up with some thoughts? I want to have a quick ref to give to people who wanna know more about the family.
I took some creative liberties here, which of course means some details are absolutely up for interpretation and okay to be changed.
The Idolodulia family as a whole is a broad network of interconnected biological, adopted, and politically tethered clusters of individuals with overlapping goals of power, unity, strength, and efficient domination. While going into the lore, history, customs, and minutiae of the entirety of this family would frankly take more time than we have here, I’m going to specifically focus on the main branch, the Godhead line itself, the absolute, bordering on monarch head of the branches as a whole.
This is a very loose BMC au, in which the Squip is the human heir to the dynasty. While much of the dark elements are left up to interpretation and implication within this document, this family has a sordid history at best. Warning moving forward for elements of: rape, grooming, incest, patricide, abuse (physical, neglect, psychological, sexual), fetishization, forced marriages, and the brutal cycles of continued trauma.
Some glossaries of terms and abbreviations:
Idol: casual abbreviation of the chosen surname of the family. Idolodulia sounds like an artificial name, and that’s absolutely because it is. It was chosen many generations back. It’s also a serious mouthful and can get tedious to talk. I use the full last name and the abbreviated Idol interchangeably, there’s no distinct difference between when I choose one over the other.
Godhead: The anglified term used to denote the head of the family. Some branches use the term for their own house patriarch or matriarch, but it will be used only within that house’s walls, and only in the lowercase. The capital G Godhead is the actual ruler of the Idols, and is in charge of maintaining order, creating new family laws, keeping track of rituals and customs, and is, of course, expected to produce at least one heir. It’s not unusual for the Godhead of the family to simply go by this title once they take control of the family and forgo use of their actual given name.
GH: diminutive abbreviation of Godhead. Can be used as an affectionate nickname, but generally is considered a sign of disrespect for a subordinate to shorten the title in this way. Rules have grown more lax about this over generations, however. In this document, I will use Godhead when speaking about the position in a general sense, and GH when I am referring to The Squip specifically
Bride: the most commonly used vernacular to refer to the Godhead’s primary/heir-producing wife. Bride is a recognized gender neutral term within family lore.
Heir: the child chosen to carry on the family line and take over the position of power. Usually the first born, most often male, typically heavily trained up until the time they usurp the outgoing Godhead’s position of power.
Aunts and Uncles: general term for any non-direct adult relative to the main family. An Uncle is not necessarily a sibling of the patriarchal head
Cousin: general term for any non-direct minor relative to the main family.
FH: unofficial term referring to the outgoing Godhead of the family. Stands for Fatherhead. It’s not his actual name or title, it’s just funny and sort of stuck as unofficial shorthand to refer to GH’s (the Squip’s) father.
MH: unofficial term referring to the outgoing Bride of the family. Stands for Motherhead. It’s not her official name or title, it’s just funny and sort of stuck as unofficial shorthand to refer to GH’s mother.
gFH: unofficial term, used to mean “grandfatherhead”. Basically a fancy way of me saying “this is the grandpa of the current generation of kids”.
gMH: unofficial term, used to mean “grandmotherhead”. Basically a fancy way of me saying “this is the grandma of the current generation of kids”.
Traditions/Customs within the family:
The traditional path of an heir taking over as Godhead is through patricide (or, in the rare cases of a female Godhead, matricide). This is known and expected by the current ruler, and it’s a high honor to have trained a child adept enough to best you through homicidal means. This position requires a cold, calculating, detached sensibilities. Proving this through bringing death upon one of your lifebringers is a sign of the type of amoral, practical, goal-oriented thinking that is highly valued within this society.
Ritual incest is not only commonplace, but lauded as a necessary custom within the family as a whole, and the main ruling class in particular. Entire parties and holidays are centered around the use and defilement of the Idol young. These holidays often serve as a vehicle to show off the youth of the family who can be married off or bartered for special favor or political intrigue
Speaking of incest, marriage is often kept within the family lines as well. It is a custom that’s neither highly encouraged nor discouraged, it’s simply one of many options. It’s not unusual for a Godhead to have many sibling or cousin wives, in addition to a Bride who may or may not be biologically related
The death and physical dismemberment of children is commonplace, especially as a tool to harden an heir through example
Adoption is a common tactic to diversify the family line and add a “flavor of the exotic” for parties, holidays, and intrigue. The more unique the adoptee, the more impressive the family looks as a result. Adopted children cannot become heirs or godheads, though they can reach other high levels of prestige and power within the family once they’ve come of age, and of course can become Brides.
It’s not that showing affection is disallowed or even really frowned upon. It’s just that the concept of family devotion extends beyond the typical moral lines of protection and affection, but rather involves maintaining traditions, showing strength and discipline, and seeing a much broader picture than simply caring for an individual. You can love your children, you can love your Bride, you can love your siblings. But to put that love above your devotion to your duty and the rituals of your title is unacceptable and must swiftly be snuffed out.
The main family line of the current ruling class:
gFH: Abram Idolodulia (likely deceased), a cruel and stupid man. While he had the sadism of a traditional Godhead, he lacked the discipline to truly be considered Great. Abram sired many children (16 confirmed pregnancies carried to term with his first Bride, Kana, and an additional 7 unrecognized offspring by various lower wives. He also had two adopted children), though the vast majority would not survive to adulthood due to his careless homicidal inclinations. He cycled through 8 potential heirs before Archelaus was ultimately selected. He was usurped as acting Godhead by his son, Archelaus, upon Archelaus’ 17th birthday.
gMH: Kana Idolodulia (deceased), Abram’s first and only officially recognized Bride. A soft spoken former teacher, she was not born into the Idol bloodline, but was considered desirable and forcibly married by Abram. She had an extremely close relationship with her child Archelaus (who she cycled through a variety of petnames to refer to, and often called Archie) until her death by Abram’s hands, a death calculated with the intention of removing any softness from this heir.
The Father: Archelaus T. Idolodulia (FH), current acting Godhead, the patriarch of the ruling Idol family. An extremely intelligent, calculating, and sadistic man, his lack of empathy and eye for detail has lauded him as one of the most well regarded of all Godheads in modern Idol history. His bounds for cruelty are composed but thorough, a tactic used to control, to train, and to entertain. His favorite of his children is his youngest, Christopher, and his cruelties towards him are escalated due to his sense of love and genuine affection. FH’s relationship with his Bride is playful and mutually beneficial, though devoid of any sort of traditional sense of romantic love.
The Mother: Lilith Idolodulia (MH), current acting Bride and the mother of the current Godhead’s offspring. Cold, bitter, and hateful, her distaste at lack of an acceptable daughter only fuels her annoyance at her lot in life. Lilith is the first cousin of her husband. The majority of her direct relatives (including a prior fiance) were slaughtered to prevent a coup and to successfully take her as a Bride.
The Original Spare: Kristophe Idolodulia is Archelaus’ twin brother and one of his few remaining living siblings. He was kept in isolation for the majority of their shared childhood together. Archelaus’ affection for his brother manifested in graphic acts of torture in their few moments together. Upon taking power, Archelaus married Kristophe to a lower level Uncle. They do not correspond or keep in touch. Kristophe is likely extremely psychologically warped due to his upbringing and continued torture at the hands of his husband.
The Heir: Christian “GH” Idolodulia, the eldest son and current heir to the Idolodulia family. Upon announcement of his heir status, he was quick to stop answering to any uses of his given name and already insists (at least upon his siblings and any cousins) on being referred to as Godhead exclusively. As far as ties to canon, GH is the humanized version of the Squip. Raised to be cold, his life is a constant battle of suppressing his compassion for his siblings in order to fulfill the duties of his family and title. A sickly child, medicine and unhealthy levels of personal discipline help him maintain a facade of strength that he knows all too well is easy to fracture. His main goals in life? Kill his father, take the throne, and find a suitable Bride to carry on his legacy.
The Spare: Lucifer “Luci” Idolodulia, the twin (triplet*) brother of GH, who has spent the vast majority of his life in a lonely cage in a dark basement. A gentle, gender-confused, faith-driven sweetheart, his kindness proved too detrimental to ultimately consider for the heir role, despite his stronger physical health, and thus was banished to try to prevent any continued emotional ties between himself and GH.
The Disposable: Isaac “Isa” Idolodulia*, the triplet sister of GH and Luci, and an unacceptable female child by Lilith’s standards. Much like Luci, she was kept in solitude for the majority of her childhood, though under less rigid guard, and in an attic rather than a basement. Nurturing by nature, but ultimately a complete death fetishist and kinkster, she and GH have a strong, albeit dangerous, chemistry, due to his desire for power, and her extreme masochism.
*Isa is sometimes depicted as deceased at birth or earlier in development, depending on the nature of the narrative being crafted
The Novelty: Moses Idolodulia, the adopted younger sibling of the household, chosen because of his looks, physical strength and health, and gender to appease Lilith’s urge for a daughter. A trans boy, Moses, likely due to his outsider upbringing in addition to his inherent personality, is a voice of rationale and reason, as well as a source of surprising warmth and compassion despite the cruelties this life brings them. Often tasked with caretaking for Christopher and, to a lesser extent, GH himself. Strong contender for a potential Bride, which also played a role in his adoption. In terms of canonical connection to BMC, Moses is the humanized characterization of Rich’s squip.
The Pet: Christopher Idolodulia, the youngest of the household, and FH’s favorite. Being the favorite certainly doesn’t give him any sort of leniency in terms of treatment, of course, because the Idol standard of showing love is not a gentle one. Due to a variety of chronic health conditions, Christopher primarily uses a wheelchair. Quiet, autistic, and externally stoic in his mannerisms, Christopher idolizes (no pun intended) GH, and is devoted to Moses. A sweet chronic biter hiding behind a frown and a pile of stuffed animals.
This is just a basic overview. If anyone actually read this and has any questions or comments, my ask box is always open! I tried to keep this as toned down as I could, because some of the details are pretty, well, sad and gross and tragic, but if this triggered anyone or caused any distress, I do apologize for that as well!

Can I ask for your thoughts on the newest Fantasy High ep? I enjoyed it, but honestly I'm more excited for the next episode based on that preview...
**even more spoilers for the sisterly showdown**
OK, I’m back for Hot Takes: Part 2.
First, just a few stray things I forgot last time:
I’m sure Adaine is enjoying having bested Aelwen (yeah, spelling #3 guys) in the moment but I can’t imagine she’s gonna enjoy all these nerds making cow eyes at her if her time in the AV office is any indication. Though, to be fair, these nerds could have more game.
“OOPS BITCH.” Siobhan with the awesome episode enders back to back.
Anyone who saw Fabian jump on the Hangman, make a lap while on fire, and then come back, still on fire, was probably like, “Classic Fabian.” I wouldn’t even question it. Very on brand.
Did y’all notice that at a certain point of the fight, everyone clearly went “Game Face” and started playing to win? Like they were joking a lot less and getting all quiet. I was almost holding my breath for them at points. I am convinced they were all having war flashbacks to the first fight. I know I was.
OK, on to new business!
I think I’m on record as saying that combat is my least fave part of RPGs.You’re spending a lot of time IRL to cover relatively small amounts of time in story and I especially dislike RPGs that use initiative based fighting systems (which is most of them I think) because then you end up with situations like in this ep where Siobhan kept wanting to attack Aelwen but she couldn’t react when it would make sense for her to do so because she rolled low on initiative. And it’s where most of the rules of the game are and it can get nitty gritty when I prefer to loose, sandbox-y elements of an RPG.
I want to also reiterate that I think Brennan does a fantastic job of making the combat fun to watch by having inventive fight themes and the rest of the cast is fun no matter what.
That being said, I far and away prefer the story episodes to the combat ones and the entire ep I was like, “OK, but then I’m gonna have to wait a whole week for the conversation that happens after this fight,” WHICH IS THE PART YOU WANT TO SEE OBVIOUSLY.
So I am also more looking forward to the aftermath of the fight than I was the fight itself (although the little bit we got of Adaine getting to finally beat Aelwen was great). Here’s a shot list of things I want addressed/am looking forward to.
What exactly is Aelwen’s part in this? Mastermind? Doubt it. Pawn? Maybe. Being magically manipulated? I mean, possible but I kinda hope she’s just Like This. Anyway, if everything is going to end up dovetailing together (like these stories usually do) and Aelwen is a part of the Palimpsest conspiracy which was part of the Harvestmen’s attempted hit on Kristen which was part of the effort to start a war I’m curious about what reason Aelwen would have to want a war. Like, is that conducive to her lifestyle? Does she know about the war thing specifically or does she just know that s/t shady is happening and if she doesn’t ask too many questions, she’s in the clear? Brennan, fighting slime monsters is great but I have story questions.
They basically have Aelwen dead to rights on this, but I wonder how she’s gonna play this. She doesn’t strike me as the spill guts immediately type. And she should be smart enough to play the diplomatic immunity card. But I hope we at least get some info out of her.
Man I hope Riz’s mom gets to arrest her. Which would lead to Mr. Abernant yelling at her which would lead to Adaine yelling at him which she should more because it’s great.
If Fabian lays low, he’s probably gonna get away with the whole kissing Adaine’s sister thing. She really did not care AT ALL compared to how pissed she was at Aelwen, even before she started actively trying to kill them. On the other hand, she could just be prioritizing and Fabian’s still in for it a, “What the hell, man?” Even if she’s not actively mad at him, this won’t be a point in his favor if he ever decides to make a move on her in the future (which it looked like he might).
I wonder how much, if anything, Mr. Abernant knows about Aelwn’s extracurricular activities. Because either he doesn’t know what she’s up to or he does but he’s in denial and/or protecting the family name. I wouldn’t even be asking the question except for that clip of him being all, “You can’t jail a diplomat’s daughter!” Although, wouldn’t it be wild if it turned out he was talking about Adaine instead of Aelwen there?
And what’s up with Aelwen and Ostentasia? What did she know? What was she helping her with? Did Aelwen have this whole party set up just to get a good chance to snatch her?
Y’all, there are 4 episodes left. FOUR. We’re getting close to the endgame. There’s not a lot of time to introduce a new set of antagonists, you know? So I feel like next ep has to drop some pretty major info bombs. Especially since we still haven’t addressed all the weird crap Adaine found in her sister’s room. See, the conversation right after the fight! That’s where the magic happens.
Riz’s dad! I’ve been waiting for this to go down since the graveyard ep and it looks like it finally will! In the promo, Riz says, “Hey Mom. I know about dad.” Which is kinda throwing me for a loop because either that means he doesn’t know exactly how his dad died and Adaine tells him or (the more intriguing option) something even wilder went down which Sklonda is keeping from him and Riz is about to have a storm coming.
“Detect maiden.” MMM ominous. So, is this an classic maiden sacrifice for big spell thing we’re leading up to?
KVX? Ominous again.
I’ve been meaning to say this. Wasn’t it established in E1 that the setting of FH is this weird little area of the world that happens to look like a modern irl suburb, and the rest of the world is like a normal DnD setting? I didn’t think that would end up mattering since the story has so far been confined to the immediate area but if war ends up happening, it could factor in.
Also, Adaine finally read that book on Aguefort which raised a lot of questions and suggested time travel might become a factor at some point? Which would be WILD. Imagine Back to the Future but instead of Marty it’s Fig. The timeline would be in shambles.
Brennan keeps mentioning this Nightmare King person and I’ve been keeping that in the back of my head all season, waiting for it to pop up because I refuse to be blindsighted.
And, speaking of, that ice cream later wish is still in play. Don’t think I’ve forgotten.
So yeah! Next episode should drop some big story bombs and I’m SUPER pumped. Lemme know if I missed anything you wanted to hear about.

Summoner/FH!M!Robin C-S Support
Written by @watch-out-for-them
C SUPPORT
(y/n): Robin! I’ve been looking all over for you–
Robin: You would seek to talk to me? Alone? I wouldn’t take you for such a brave soul, Summoner.
(y/n): Oh, Grima, it’s you…You may not be Robin, but I don’t suppose you still have a mind for tactics, then? I’ve been struggling with this map arrangement for some time now.
Robin: You’ve been having trouble with this? Allow me to take care of them. Those worms are nothing to my insurmountable power.
(y/n): Power that’s been significantly lowered, that is. I’ll admit you’re still very formidable here, but Surtr and his armies are a force to be reckoned with. I won’t lose a single ally’s life, and that includes you. Once in battle, I will ensure my allies stay alive.
Robin: Casualties are essential to war, Summoner. Your naivety is… cute, though, thinking you could save every single one of your precious Heroes.
(y/n): Maybe it is a little naive of me to think that such a thing is possible, but I think with the bonds I made with all the heroes here, anything is possible.
Robin: You think your feeble bonds can–
[(y/n) interrupts Robin before he can finish.]
(y/n): Now, if you’re so willing to fight, I want you to head out with Ninian, Tiki, and Myrrh for this next battle. If you really hate humans as much as you claim, I’ll have you fight with some of the other dragons. Maybe you can learn a thing or two from them…
[(y/n) leaves the room.]
Robin: Until we speak again, Summoner.
[(y/n) and Robin have reached support rank C.]
B SUPPORT
(y/n): Grima! What were you thinking that last battle?
Robin: I defeated the enemy, did I not? And your precious Heroes are safe and sound, Summoner.
(y/n): Now, maybe! But you didn’t listen to me at all! I told you how much weaker you had become her in Askr, and yet you charge in anyways. Your reckless behavior not only led to you being injured, but your allies as well. Had back up not arrived when it did, one or more of you could have very well died.
Robin: I don’t need to hear your lectures, Summoner. My wounds have healed and I secured us the victory. As I said before; casualties are a part of war.
(y/n): All I’m asking is you act with a little more caution, Grima. If not for your own self interest, than for me, and all the Heroes here who want to end this conflict with as little bloodshed as can be.
Robin: You ask this of me, and yet what do I get in return? You humans are quick to ask for your God’s favor only to shun them when they do as you ask. No, Summoner, I will continue to do as I please. If your Heroes die on the battlefield, it is no fault of mine.
[Robin walks away, shaking his head.]
(y/n): Grima– I…! I didn’t realize what I was… I must have sounded so rude to him, knowing what he’s been through in the past. I’ll have to consider that next time I talk to him…
[(y/n) and Robin have reached support rank B.]
A SUPPORT
(y/n): Grima, wait just a moment please.
Robin: What is it you want now, Summoner? To ask for further unrequited favors?
(y/n): No I… wanted to apologize. About that, actually.
Robin: An apology?
(y/n): Yes, Grima. I realize that your the “feared Fell Dragon”, but it was rude of to ask that of you, especially when I did not expect to give anything in return. It was ignorant of me to think that after all you’ve been through–
Robin: Enough, Summoner. I do not need your pity, nor will I tolerate it.
(y/n) I see. Then, please bear in mind my apology, and my new proposal; if you act more carefully in battle, I’d be willing to do something in return for you. So long as it isn’t too malicious, that is.
Robin: How curious. You willingly offer something to me? I’ll accept your apology, and your offer… (y/n).
(y/n): That’s wonderful, Grima! I’m glad your willing to hear me out and be so civil about the whole thing. I was worried you had lost all trust in me…
Robin: You think I trust you?
(y/n): Well, I trust you, Grima. Is it such a bold thing to say? I think if you wanted me dead, you would have tried an attempt a long time ago.
Robin: Very well, (y/n), we’ll see just how far your trust in me will take you.
[(y/n) and Robin have reached support rank A.]
S SUPPORT
(y/n): Grima, how do you fare?
Robin: (y/n), am I really so interesting you must constantly seek me out?
(y/n): Maybe so, Grima. But I was just checking on all the Heroes, like I usually do. You’re no exception to the rule. I have to make sure everyone is happy after all.
Robin: You want all the Heroes happiness? Don’t be foolish, (y/n), tell me what you really desire.
(y/n): Thinking I’m naive again Grima? I know it’s a bit of an unrealistic dream, but every time I make a Hero happy, I become a little happier myself. The day I make you smile will be quite the treat!
[Just then, Grima smiles at (y/n).]
Robin: Well then, I suppose it’s your lucky day, (y/n).
(y/n): What’s got you acting all nice, Grima? I’m almost concerned.
Robin: I’ve finally decided what I want in return from you, for acting more cautiously on the battlefield and… protecting your little Heroes.
(y/n): O-oh, and what’s that?
Robin: Feeling nervous now, (y/n)?
(y/n): I don’t think you can blame me, Grima.
Robin: No, I suppose not. I’ve decided that… You are to remain at my side, once this is all over.
(y/n): You mean–
Robin: No, (y/n), I don’t need another mindless Grimleal. You’ve become… a problem. A weakness of sorts.
(y/n): Do my ears deceive me? Is the Fell Dragon admitting his love to a mere worm?
Robin: Hush, and dare not speak of this. You are to remain close to me, so I can ensure your protection at all times.
(y/n): *giggling* … Whatever you say, dearest Grima. Oh and… I do love you, if that holds any weight to you.
Robin: I… care as well. But I am unfamiliar with…
(y/n): Don’t worry, we have so much time, Grima.
[(y/n) and Robin have reached support rank S.]
Confession quote:
FH!Robin: I had thought at all humans were mere worms, pointless obstacles in my path of destruction. However, you have shown me that perhaps there may still be something of worth in humans. Please, remain by my side and show me that what I have forgotten…

Yo your stuff is really good love. Could you maybe do a James Willems where he is picking on the reader in a gameplay video and Bruce starts as well and he gets irritated cause making fun of the reader is HIS thing. Then she is jut all blushy and smiley because she like James and thinks its adorable that he flirts like a middle schooler. I hope you write for FH lol
If Only You’d Asked Me
Pairing: James x reader
Warnings: swearing, drinking,
A/N: I honest to god love Elyse but for the sake of thisfic she isn’t married to James, but she still works at Funhaus, but I havenothing against her, it’s just that this fic doesn’t work if her and James are married.
When you arrived at the Funhaus offices you were unsurprisedto see that they were still in the middle of their drunk Mario Maker streameven though James had told you that they would be done by now. You and Jameslived in the same apartment block and since you worked only a few blocks fromhim the two of you often carpooled together, especially on days like today, when James knew he wasn’t going to be capable of driving himself home. As you entered the room you quickly waved at the camera andthen found yourself a seat out of sight of the camera. You had been in enough videos with the guys and Elyse that the fans knew who you were andthat upon your entrance some of the comments in the chat were greetings aimedat you but other than that the Funhaus gang seemed either too immersed in thegame or maybe just too drunk to take note of your arrival.
It wasn’t until a good five or ten minutes later when Elysefinally noticed you sat off in the corner of the room. You had chosen to justwait out the end of the stream and just spend some time chatting with some ofyour friends and thus you ended up entirely in your own world, only returningto the present when Elyse started throwing bits of her bread at you.
“Y/N, join us” Elyse whined, “we’re all too drunk tocomplete this level” And so that’s how you ended up sitting on the couchplaying Mario maker between James and Bruce who were both absolutely hammered. You on the other hand were completely sober but still equally as bad, if notworse, at Mario maker than the drunkards surrounding you.
You had agreed to join in their game but despite all theirprotests you hadn’t touched a single drop of the alcohol that they wanted youto drink, and so as you continued to die over and over again it was James thatfirst got annoyed.
“Y/N you’re the sober one out of us! You shouldbe able to play better than us.” James slurred. And with that he startedpoking you, “Come on Y/N, you’re playing like shit.” AlthoughJames’ words sounded harsh you knew he didn’t mean it, that’s just how he waswith you. He would joke and say things that would be offensive if they weresaid by anyone else but you always knew that he really did care, he just wasn’tgood at expressing his feelings. And plus, you thought it was cute that heflirted like a middle schooler.
It wasn’t long until Bruce also started to get annoyed athow bad you were playing, “I thought you were meant to be good at videogames Y/N!” He exclaimed when you died again and they all had totake another shot of whatever it as they were drinking. You knew he didn’t meananything by it but when he said it you felt James tense up next to you,and you could tell he wasn’t happy with the way that Bruce had said that.
“Look Bruce.” James started, “Just because Imake fun of Y/N for how bad she is at video games doesn’t mean you canas well. That’s my thing.”
“You don’t have a monopoly on making fun of Y/N.”Bruce retorted, “Just because you’re in love with her and don’t know howto tell her!” As those words left Bruce’s mouth younoticed two things, the look of regret on his face, and the blush that spreadover James’.
“So what if I do? Y/N is pretty, and smart, andfunny, and way better at video games than you. You’re just jealous” Jamespractically shouted, and now it was your turn to blush, you weren’t used toJames being this open with his feelings. You guys had been dancing around thetopic of your feelings for each other for a while now, neither of you wantingto get hurt or ruin your friendship if the other didn’t feel the same way.“It’s not like anything could come from everyone knowing. It’s not like Y/Neven thinks about me in that way anyway.” James continued, slowly gettingquieter with each word, turning to look away from you even though you had beentoo busy looking at the floor to realise that he had been looking at you in thefirst place.
You felt it was time that you spoke up to counter what Jameswas saying and so you said, “James, look at me,” he didn’t immediatelylook at you and it wasn’t until you put your hand on his shoulder that he didface you, “you’re wrong James. I like you James, maybe even love you, andyou would have known that if only you’d asked me.”
Then he took you by surprise and kissed you. It wasn’t thefirst time the two of you had kissed. The first time you had kissed you wereboth drunk and giggling on James’ couch, making out as if it were the lastthing you would ever do, not that James remembered, the next morninghe had woken up with a killer hangover and no memory of the night before, but not you, you rememberedevery detail. This kiss on the other hand was gentile and full of all the love that both of youhad been hiding for far too long.
That day was a day you’d never forget, a day the fans wouldnever let you forget, it was the start of something beautiful.

Bob Marley | Oliver Sacks | Sergei Rachmaninoff
Bob Marley (6 February 1945 - 11 May 1981)
“The truth is, everyone is going to hurt you. You just got to find the ones worth suffering for.”
I mentioned in a post I did a while back I would return to talk about Rachmaninoff - in that particular post I didn’t mention the disease he died from, melanoma. Another musical legend died from the same disease, one who wasn’t from the path of classical music but reggae - a genre which he popularised on a worldwide level with his band, The Wailers which spanned a decade before he embarked on his solo career. Bob Marley was a unique figure in the musical industry with his Rastafarian beliefs permeating into his music and lifestyle. Rastafarianism centred around the Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia and pan-Africanism. Among smoking marijuana and dreadlocks - based on Samson in the Bible which prohibits the cutting of hair, the Rastafarian movement had their own unique traditions including one that would lead to the death of Bob Marley. Among his music and his propulsion of Jamaican culture on a worldwide level, Bob Marley was also a keen footballer which may be the most pleasant surprise in his biography. He relocated to Bloomsbury, London during which he recorded his aptly named magnum opus, Exodus. The spiritual and laid back nature of the album as an extension of Marley’s life which came after an assassination attempt in Jamaica. The album is a swirling drug trip of politics, religion and sex where it has earned its place in history in its 40th year. As with many musical artists that entered the public consciousness, Bob Marley’s time on Earth was tragically short - he was only 36. And

Oliver Sacks (9 July 1933 – 30 August 2015)
“If we wish to know about a man, we ask 'what is his story--his real, inmost story?'--for each of us is a biography, a story. Each of us is a singular narrative, which is constructed, continually, unconsciously, by, through, and in us--through our perceptions, our feelings, our thoughts, our actions; and, not least, our discourse, our spoken narrations. Biologically, physiologically, we are not so different from each other; historically, as narratives--we are each of us unique.”
Oliver Sacks is known as the Poet Laureate of Medicine. It’s easy to see why. His books are portals into how he approached medicine and his patients, always placing them at the forefront of everything he did. His writing style resonates with his empathy and compassion seeing his patients as equals and teachers. I’d highly recommend his most famous works The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat and Awakenings as entry points to the writings of Oliver Sacks. Robin Williams (mentioned in an earlier post) played Sacks in the film adaptation of Awakenings in perhaps his most tender role. It was actually reading The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat a few years ago that inspired me to start this blog. The miscellaneous collection of patient led stories and case studies gave an otherwise abstract disease an added depth and emotional resonance. Sacks was able to tap into the human side of medicine when in recent years it has become so regimented and industrialised and from a recent patient’s words ‘heartless’. Sacks reminds me of the duty of a doctor, and that’s the duty of a human being. Never for one moment does Sacks forget that he himself could be the patient in front of him, and neither does he take it for granted that anything less than the best he can do is enough for them. Losing Oliver Sacks to me was like losing one of the old inspirational classical doctors of another time - smart, eccentric but always caring. How much better the world would be if everyone took their time, observed, listened and cared like Oliver Sacks?

Sergei Rachmaninoff (20 March 1873 - 28 March 1943)
Music is enough for a lifetime - but a lifetime is not enough for music
Rachmaninoff by the time of his death had been diagnosed with advanced melanoma. The biography of a great composer no doubt is dramatic with its tumultuous events and tragedies and Rachmaninoff is no different. The death of his sisters growing up in 19th century Russia, his struggling academic grades, a forbidden love with his neighbour, Vera, the death of his idol, Tchaikovsky from cholera all had a bruising impact on the young man and had shaped his music to the masterpieces we hear now. One piece of his biography is especially revealing of his character, the failure of his Symphony No.1 which was widely panned by critics led Rachmaninoff to a deep depression that lasted 3 years. Where he had placed his hard work and precious time into creating his symphony only for it to trashed by critics which led him down a path of endless self-criticism exacerbating his depression. It was only with the help of Nikolai Dahl and his hypnotherapy and psychotherapy sessions and adjustments to his personal life including sleep regulation, appetite and support from close friends and family that Rachmaninoff began to recover from his ‘self-imposed exile’ which culminated in probably the most beautiful piece of art from Russia, his Piano Concerto No.2. Rachmaninoff began to enjoy his success he had striven for so long during a happy time in his life with his marriage to his wife, Satina. This time also came with great turmoil especially with the 1905 revolution but his loyalty and love for his motherland obliged him to stay when there were enthusiastic offerings from America. Further tragedy struck when his close friend during his time at the Moscow Conservatory, Alexander Scriabin died which was quickly followed by Taneyev, another friend and finally Rachmaninoff’s own father. Further political turmoil came with the 1917 revolution (see the classic film Dr Zhivago as a reference to the horrors afflicted) which placed Rachmaninoff in an dire situation citing his aristocratic birth in the midst of a Bolshevik regime that began to seize land ‘for the people’. Here he gained permits to Scandinavia where he spent the duration of the war working as a concert pianist where he worked tirelessly to improve his technique. During his increasing financial woes, he eventually relented and set off for New York City from Oslo in 1918. Here he now saw the success and love he had for so long rejected and it was in America where he met his compatriot, Vladmir Horowitz in the basement of Steinway Hall in 1928 who is known as the master of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.3. (see the 1996 film Shine as a tribute to this magnificent piece). Rachmaninoff even acknowledged this himself stating "This is the way I always dreamed my concerto should be played, but I never expected to hear it that way on Earth." after one of Horowitz’s performances in Rachmaninoff’s twilight years.
Why Rachmaninoff is so important to me, it is his humanity. During the face of great tragedy which he felt so keenly as the sentimental soul he was and suffered greatly during it, he strove to continue despite all his self-doubt and self flagellation as a failure. He was just so human. You can feel his tragedy and grief embrace your very soul and yet find profound beauty in his works. This is true art, the expression of one’s soul and the uncanny ability to deeply connect with your fellow human beings. Tolstoy’s War and Peace comes to mind, another Russian export that can match the heights of Rachmaninoff’s compositions. The tragedy, the love, the family, the war, the evil, the kindness, the resilience and the struggle during the 1812 French invasion of Russia where it seemed all hope had been lost. And it was this - hope that is the crowning quality of humanity. My thoughts return to my childhood reading one of my sisters’ hand me down Enid Blyton books The Land of Far-Beyond and the final chapter always struck me deeply even as a kid. Out of faith, hope, and love. It is hope that is the greatest of these three. Where there’s life, there’s hope.
Sergei Rachmaninoff performing Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini in 1934. Of the 24 variations, pay especially close attention to the 18th (the most well known and romantic) and the 24th, the legendary finale requiring superhuman technical skill to pull off (in fact Rachmaninoff himself doubted his ability to play this and as a teetotaller had a creme de menthe before his performance to help steady his nerves and consequently became known as the creme de menthe variation.

So what did these three men have in common? Melanoma.
Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer and the 5th most common cancer in the UK. Melanoma derives from cancer in the pigment containing cells called melanocytes. Although melanoma is most associated with melanocytes of the skin, as in Oliver Sack’s case it can occur in the eye - e.g. uveal melanoma - the uvea is the collective term for the structures: iris, ciliary body and choroid (Figure 1 & 2). Bob Marley had discovered acral lentiginous melanoma (Figure 3) growing underneath the nail of a toe following a football game injury, which due to his Rastafarian beliefs against amputation ultimately led to Sergei Rachmaninoff by the time of his death already had advanced melanoma where it is probable that metastasis had already occurred.

Figure 2: Uveal melanoma
Figure 3: Acral lentiginous melanoma in nail bed
See the video below by Armando Hasudungan which provides a good introduction to melanoma
youtube
One of the most common cancers in young adults - most commonly seen on backs in men and legs in women. The primary risk to melanoma is intermittent exposure to UV radiation and sunlight.
Risk factors - FH, PMH, light physical features, immunosuppression, Multiple freckles and moles (atypical mole syndrome)
Features using a dermatoscope (glorified magnifying glass with a torch)- pigmented, aymmetrical, uneven borders, bleeding. See ABCDE (Figure 4) for good heuristic to diagnose melanoma
EFG - elevated above skin surface, firm to touch, growing - criteria for nodular melanoma, most dangerous form
Protective factors - protection against sun and UV radiation e.g. sunhats, sunscreen, restriction of time spent in sun, regular skin check ups
Figure 4: ABCDE checklist
The video below by Podmedics provides more detail about melanoma:
youtube
Risk factors: multiple benign/atypical naevi, giant pigmented hairy naevus, genetic predisposition (>2 first degree relatives affected, CDKN2A mutation), previous skin cancer, immunosuppression, Fitzpatrick skin type I (see Figure 5, often auburn haired, very pale individuals - again another heuristic - dermatology is full of them!, intermittent exposure to sunlight - UV radiation - UVB 315-280 nm and less so UVA 400-315 nm, sunbeds etc (see youtube video in Further Reading for why), geographical location, increasing age
Glasgow 7 point criteria (Figure 6)
Superficial malignant melanomas: superficial spreading, lentigo maligna, acral lentiginous
Deeper malignant melanoma: nodular, mucosal, neurotropic, desmoplastic
Investigations: excisional biopsy, lymphoscintigraphy - tracing lymph drainage, sentinel lymph node biopsy (if primary melanoma <1mm in depth), staging - USS/CT/MRI/PET/CXR, bloods - LFTs and LDH if liver mets suspected
Management : education, wide location excision +/- skin grafting, chemotherapy, biologics e.g. interferonalpha-2b, IL-2, BRAF inhibitors: dabrafenib, vemurafenib.
Prognosis - Breslow thickness, Clark level, poor prognosis: ulceration, mitotic rate, location of lesions, males>females.
Figure 5: Fitzpatrick skin types
Figure 6: Glasgow 7 point checklist
Breslow thickness is a useful diagnostic tool for invasive melanomas. It is the measuring in mm vertically from the top of the granular layer (Epidermal layers from superficial to deep: Come Let’s Get Sun Burned, Stratum Corneum, Stratum Lucidum, Stratum Granulosum, Stratum Spinosum, Stratum Basale) to the deepest point of the tumour. The thicker the melanoma, the more likely it is likely to metastasise.
Clark level of invasion is the anatomical plane of invasion (dermal layers from superficial to deep: papillary dermis to reticular dermis)
Level 1: in situ melanoma
Level 2: Melanoma invasion into papillary dermis
Level 3: Melanoma filled papillary dermis
Level 4: Melanoma invaded reticular dermis
Level 5: Melanoma invaded subcutaneous tissue
Staging of melanoma is the process determining the size/depth of the melanoma and how far it will spread. The classification used is the TNM (tumour, node - lymph, metastasis) which then determines the stage of the cancer (0 to IV) - (Figure 7). The most common metastases from melanoma are the liver, lungs, brain and bones.
Figure 7: Staging of melanoma
Just a brief mention of uveal melanoma - often referred to as ocular melanomas. It is clear that UV radiation plays a role in the formation of uveal melanoma. The treatment is normally enucleation - the removal of the eye. Given this is a localised cancer, radiotherapy is used - namely brachytherapy is often used as another form of treatment. The liver is the most common location for metastasis from ocular cancer. Oliver Sacks found he had this metastasis to the liver himself to which he wrote a moving article in the New York Times in which the link can be found below.
Melanoma is common. It also kills. That’s why it’s so important to protect yourself in the sun. As seen from this post, all three mentioned were men which fits with the stats that men are more likely to get melanoma than women. I think Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) also had melanoma which fits with his Australian background as well. Something so seemingly harmless as the sun can also lead to metastasis riddling the whole body. So keep checking for any moles, changes, I cannot stress this enough. We have lost three fantastic people mentioned due to this disease, and the fact is the prognosis is remarkably good for early detection (localised melanoma) with five year survival rates of 98% which drops drops staggeringly to 17% with metastasis. The old quote of prevention is better than cure rings true here. I conclude with this poignant quote which reinforces why I write this blog.
“In examining disease, we gain wisdom about anatomy and physiology and biology. In examining the person with disease, we gain wisdom about life.”
Oliver Sacks
