Witness to Dignity: The Life and Faith of George H.W. and Barbara Bush by Reverend Russell Levenson, Jr. #Inspirational #BookReview
George and Barbara Bush were married for more than 70 years. Their pastor recently published a memoir of his time with them during the last decade of their lives. #Witnesstodignity #georgehwbush #barbarabush #episcopalianchurch #faith #inspirationalbook
George and Barbara Bush belonged to and were active members of a Houston church for more than 50 years. The rector of that church, Reverend Russell Jones Levenson, Jr., believes he was invited into private moments with these public individuals so he could serve as a witness: a witness to observe, and a witness to tell. With never-before shared correspondence, experiences, and personal stories,…

AMY POEHLER AND THE DIRT OFF HER SHOULDER
Amy Poehler is getting married. The wedding takes place in a cozy English Episcopalian church with high-beamed ceilings made out of beige wood. The sanctuary is packed. I sit next to my sister, and in order to remain anonymous, we hungrily read over the order of ceremony handed to us by the usher, something we learned to do in church to look busy, so no one would bother us, so no one would notice us.
No one else pays attention to the order of ceremony. Amy is up at the altar, lined up with her bridesmaids, of which her brother is one. Everyone in the wedding party faces the altar, not the congregation, but there is no priest or vicar or master of ceremony, and it looks like all in attendance are dressed for a casual Easter service, not a wedding. Amy’s brother is only in a white button-down collared shirt. No jacket, no tie. And, seriously...khakis?
Amy looks pretty cute in a gray Marc Jacobs knock-off number with tiny triads of carrots repurposed to look like flowers. There is something to say for taking tradition lightly, but this is confusing. Perhaps we arrived on the wrong day. Perhaps this is the rehearsal or we are not really present. Dreams can make one feel that way.
But this is what it is. It is Amy’s wedding day, and she doesn’t give a fuck.
A row of foster kids behind me start arguing about what they call their foster sisters and which one is Jenny and which one is Djeni. They continue arguing until they are no longer “shout-whispering” and things begin to get rowdy. I look back, annoyed, and they continue to laugh and have a good time, but it is disrespectful. From up in the nave, Amy shouts at them over her shoulder, “Hey, do ya know I’m getting married!” This just makes them bust up laughing even more.
Once the crowd is hushed, Amy escorts her white-shirted brother to a music stand in the corner of the stage. He turns to face the congregation, his face beaming into a brilliant rosy-pink in the cheeks.
Amy turns toward her brother and starts singing into his ear:
AND I ALWAYS FIND, YEAH, I ALWAYS FIND SOMETHING WRONG
She takes his hand.
YOU’VE BEEN PUTTING UP WITH MY SHIT JUST WAY TOO LONG
She digs into the pocket of her Marc Jacobs knock-off.
I’M SO GIFTED AT FINDING WHAT I DON’T LIKE THE MOST
She pulls out a glistening silver chain.
SO I THINK IT’S TIME FOR US TO HAVE A TOAST
She clips the chain around his neck. He starts bawling.
LET’S HAVE A TOAST FOR THE DOUCHEBAGS
Amy turns toward the congregation. She’s bawling. She is saying “douche-bag” in a church.
LET’S HAVE A TOAST FOR THE ASSHOLES
They both turn toward the church. Faces awash in tears.
LET’S HAVE A TOAST FOR THE SCUMBAGS
I look at my sister. Her head is in her hands and she is crying.
EVERYONE OF THEM I KNOW
The foster kids behind me have their fists in the air.
LET’S HAVE A TOAST FOR THE JERKOFFS
THAT’LL NEVER TAKE WORK OFF
BABY, I GOT A PLAN
RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN
The closing inscription on the back of the order of ceremony reads: “This groomless wedding is for all of us with dads who have never been there. Dads who blamed everything on us and then that’s what we got good at.”

Yes we all need to disinfect, but it must and can be done safely. EPA and Health Canada approved to kill 99.9% of all bacteria and viruses including covid and yet with food grade ingredients, yes that safe! Safe and sound. You can have a clean home, clean of dirt, germs and toxic chemicals. Now is the time. Keeping our families safe and well 🌿💞 #worthsharing #healthandwellness #washyourhands #episcopalianchurch (at Chicago, Illinois) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-DsLMnltv8/?igshid=tw3rvt99rrs2
