WIP Wednesday
I was tagged by the lovely @thequeenofthewinter, @dirty-bosmer, @hircines-hunter, and @bostoniangirl21. Thank y'all so much. 💕💕💕
I'mma tag @rainpebble3, @throughtrialbyfire and @changelingsandothernonsense, and anyone else who sees this. (and if you already participated, or it's no longer Wednesday where you are, consider this a pester for next week. XD)
Have a bit of a snippet from Snowflake's Chance: Lewin is meeting people in Whiterun.
>>>>>>
Lewin watched, smelling the concern in Eorlund's scent. He's not good with overt shows of affection it seems. But it's clear there's care here. "He promised to teach me to cook," he said cheerfully. "Can't do that without getting hungry."
"Can you hunt?" he asked, glancing at him. "I heard you telling Aela why you prefer the crossbow."
"Very well," he said, crossing his arms. It's easy with a crossbow. And easier in wolf form.
"Good." He frowned, leaning in and peering at his armor. "Do you mind?" he asked, reaching his hand toward him.
"Go ahead."
Nodding, smelling pleased, he prodded at his armor, running his thumb over the leather on his shoulder. "What kind of leather is this? I can tell it's not deer or elk. It's too soft for that. Where did you get it?"
"High Rock. Knowing the smith who made it, the leather would have been sourced close to home."
"Where is close to home?" he asked, scraping a thumbnail over it.
"Evermore."
"Hmm. Talked to someone from that region once who claimed there's gryphons in the area. I didn't put much stock in it. Everything I've heard is that they're a Summerset creature."
"Well, they were honest," Lewin said. "There are a handful of aeries in a few different regions of High Rock. They're scruffier than their Summerset counterparts but they do exist."
"That's it then," he said, smelling very pleased. "And good quality steel. You're wearing armor worth a fortune young man."
"As do the Companions," he noted.
He grinned. "You're right about that."

Hiring paid voice actor!!!
I'm a Skyrim modmaker, and I've currently got an unvoiced, dialogue-based mod that gives a previously unmarriageable voice type the potential for marriage. In the game, subtitles show up for marriage-related dialogue, however I have no actual voice acting since the game never had it programmed, and I'm looking to fix that by hiring someone who can voice act this specific voice type, therefore giving the dialogue accompanying audio.
Details are in the article linked to my mod.
The voice type is MaleNordCommander (if you've ever played Skyrim, the voice type is used by NPCs like male hold guards, Eorlund Gray-Mane, Hrongar, and Captain Lonely-Gale).
I WILL NOT ACCEPT AI-GENERATED SUBMISSIONS!!!! I am paying for voice acting only, not a generator that would otherwise steal this job opportunity from an actual artist, as well as use the voice of the original MaleNordCommander actor without permission.
Please, if you're interested, read the article linked above, and if you have any questions, my contact details are listed in there as well at the end, and you can absolutely reach out to me with whatever you'd like to know, and I'll answer asap!
If you're a voice actor capable of voicing this mod, please consider, and if not, please share so others who may be able to voice it can consider!

Character Study: Idolaf Battle-Born
Because I'm tired of seeing how quickly people kill him off, let's see if I can get myself to understand why you would OR show you why you shouldn't.
Feel free to request a character study in my ask box! It will help me keep track of them!
Tumblr media
Neurological traits & Personality
There's a good chance he's neurodivergent, please bare with as I'm using my own experiences with this.
This isn't to say this is how all ND people act, although I shouldn't have to clarify that
He has a strong sense of justice - we see this with the imperial legion, he's a very strong supporter
He seems to lack the ability to feel empathy - eg. When talking to Fralia at the market (this isn't to say this applies to all ND people, as some experience quite the opposite)
While this could be just the voice acting, his voice lacks emotion (which i personally struggle with)
He doesn't actually seem to hate the Gray-Manes, only their choice in support. There's no dialogue in game where he insults or "drags" any of the family members. While yes, he can say he wants to throw Avulstein in jail, this can be linked back to the strong sense of justice
THORALD!!! He was looking into it himself, and if your speech is high enough you can persuade him to tell you. While his reasoning is blurry, it can be presumed he asked about because of concern. He mentions that they used to be friends, no doubt close too.
He knew the risks of asking about him, and he tells us he was told to mind his business but kept pushing for an answer
He believes letting the Gray-Manes think Thorald died would've been easier than telling them that no, he's alive, held captive by the Thalmor, in a place where you don't ever come out, and probably being tortured. - sense of Justice AGAIN
He gives you the letter anyway, too!
The market scene reinforces the lack of empathy theory, and the strong sense of justice, because he clearly cared enough about Thorald to go asking about him, had his answers (worse case scenario ones too) and came to the conclusion she was better off not knowing.
I think people tend to forget he grew up around the Gray-Manes too, so he's going to know their character alot better than the DB ever will.
Fralia already seems heartbroken over him going missing, which is probably why he made the decision not to tell her.
Often considered prideful, for example - would rather bend his knee to Ulfric than ask Eorlund for help. Again though, he grew up with the Gray-Manes and so them not picking the same side he did probably hurt like a bitch. (Sense of justiceeee)
Parenting
This part is the only part where I can fully understand why people may not like him as Lars is still being bullied.
There may be multiple reasons for this
Lars hasn't told him - very unlikely though since Alfhild (Idolafs wife) knows about it but he may just be closer with her
Has a more traditional approach to it, and tries to get him to stand up to her, which is most likely as it seems to be a common theme throughout Nords in general that you handle your own problems.
He has spoken to Armen and/or Sapphia about Braiths behaviour, but nothing came of it. Which to be fair is also a decent possibility, as someone who has been bullied most of my school life, typically parental intervention never really helps 💀
Other than that, he seems to try a decent amount. He tries to keep Lars out of trouble with the guards (climbing Dragonsreach cannot be legal 💀🤣), and Lars is outside most of the day too so he probably encourages him to play with the other kids in the hold. (Maybe not braith but yknow)
Anyway, if there's something I've missed feel free to leave a reply, I'm happy to try and explain them some more! :> not that I'm expecting anyone to see this like who actually scrolls Idolaf's tag 💀
Me, I do :)

headcanon . While he doesn’t have the same renown as his mentor Eorlund Gray-Mane – considered by many to be the best blacksmith in Skyrim – Farkas is still exceptional at his craft. Their work shares certain similarities, particularly in balance and style, but you will never find a piece forged by Farkas that features written inscriptions. His grasp of letters is simply too tenuous to commit text to steel. In lieu of this, he has mastered crucible rippling and etching geometric designs, though he will always favour functionality over form.

I never understood why The Battle-Borns treat The Grey-Manes as if they are poor
I know they're rivals and all but here's the thing
The Grey-Manes much like The Battle-Borns live in The Wind District which is basically where the upper class live save for Amren's family and Carlotta plus The Grey-Manes run the most notorious forge in the country Eorlund is considered the best blacksmith in Skyrim Eorlund makes weapons and armor for The Companions Fralia sells jewelry made by Eorlund Olfina works at The Bannered Mare the only ones who don't have jobs is Avulstein, Thorald and Vignar
Yeah The Battle-Borns run a farm but you can't expect me to believe that a farm makes more money than the most notorious blacksmith in the country who is literally talked about by every single blacksmith in the country even Whiterun's other blacksmith speaks of Eorlund and The Skyforge you really expect me to believe Olfrid's little farm who has so much competition in the hold with Nazeem, Severio Palegia, Sigurd's farm in Riverwood, Vantus Lorius down the road and Rorikstead which is said to be the most thriving farming community in the hold? I know there's like two other blacksmiths in the hold but you can't expect me to believe that Adrienne and Alvor make more money than Eorlund

The various weaponry for my Elder Scrolls lineage of Heroes
The Elder: Heart Stone spear (gift from the Skaal), Wamasu-femur dagger (made during his childhood), chitin javelins (crafted during journey in Vvardenfell), Imperial claymore (a gift from Caius Cosades, rarely used)
The Striker: Steel bardiche (used throughout travels in Cyrodiil, basically immediately after finding it on a bandit’s corpse after escaping the Imperial sewers), leaf-headed javelins (bought in the Imperial City), Mace of the Crusader (gained during his quest to kill Umaril the Unfeathered)
The Hero: Sun’s Fire (custom Skyforge Steel greatsword made for him by Eorlund Gray-Mane, with an enchantment reverse-engineered from Dawnbreaker by Farengar Secret-Fire), shortbow & pilum (weapons given to him during training as a Legionary), Akatosh’s Talon & Dragon’s Oath (an enchanted pair of weapons, warhammer and gladius respectively, given to him for the Battle of the Champions, a pitched battle where he slew the Stormcloak’s Champion, though he did not take her armor or weapons, instead returning them to Windhelm with her body as a show of respect)

Although they claim not to recognize an official leader, Kodlak acts as the guild’s chief advisor and is viewed as a sort of father figure. The guild’s senior members (Kodlak, Skjor, Farkas, Vilkas, Aela) comprise a sub-faction called The Circle and secretly possess the ability to transform into werewolves.
Iruma's Adopted Family:
Iruma's parents sell him to a demon and instead of eating him that demon becomes his doting grandfather and buys him literally everything he could possibly want or need. Opera is his nonbinary catbutler and they are also super protective of Iruma they are all family they love each other Iruma loves them very much and appreciates them for removing him from his abusive parenrs

WIP Whenever~
Hi Friends <3
I will be switching to simply posting a WIP on Wednesday. If you see this and would like to play along, please always feel free to tag me.
That said, here! Have a small piece of World, Chapter 31. 663 words!
CW: Death, below the cut!
Just before dawn — not quite able to sleep, even if he’d wanted to — Athis shook Avulstein awake for his watch, and that was when all of their hope shattered. Athis watched with bile rising in his throat as Avulstein shook Thorald’s shoulder. His brother had gone still at some point in the night, the shivering stopped, the wheezing silenced, his face pale as the snow that had settled around their campsite. Athis hadn’t noticed. He hadn’t. How? Avulstein began to yell, shaking Thorald harder, but the Nord’s eyes were wide open, collecting ice crystals, and his muscles were locked, frozen in —
Death.
Athis turned his head, unable to shake the image from his mind. Avulstein’s voice faded into the background of his awareness. His stomach churned. Thorald hadn’t made it through the night. It wasn’t unexpected, but seeing someone in such a state was different story. He hadn’t been able to keep moving, and in the end, it didn’t matter. Whether or not they’d have gotten to Northwatch Keep sooner, the Thalmor had already planned on this — the Nord’s death — once they got everything they needed out of him. He was nothing to them, except something from which to extract information, to be tossed away at the earliest convenience.
A new rage burned in Athis, though it was nothing compared to what Avulstein was going through — the sound of his shouting seemed to echo back twofold. Athis’s ears were ringing. Farkas was trying to comfort Avulstein, but his voice came out in fragmented sentences — he was still too shaken from the events of the last day to be coherent. The world seemed to be shifting sideways, and Athis felt dizzy and angry and like he might collapse as he stood on and watched, almost as if he was outside his own body. He wanted to tear his gaze away from the horror of the scene before him, worse almost than the carnage of the keep, but found he couldn’t. Or, maybe, that he shouldn’t, especially as Avulstein’s fury crescendoed and quieted into sobs that wracked the man’s entire body as he knelt there in the snow at his brother’s side. It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t. This shouldn’t have had to happen. Athis’s fists clenched, torn, jagged nails digging into the skin of his palms, and as he stared up at the waning image of the moons, he wondered if this was the kind of anger that drove werewolves to change.
Later, when the pyre burnt hot enough that only bits of bone might make it through the blaze, Athis stood shoulder to shoulder with Avulstein and Farkas, noon sun rising high above them. They could not offer their weapons to Thorald, or they would join in him Sovngarde too soon. He would have to go unarmed, relying on the strength of his hands on the other side when he met with Tsun and crossed the bridge. Light bounced off the endless hills of snow, the world silent but for the crackle of flame before them. Athis had gone numb to the smell of burning flesh and hair, instead breathing deep of the still, cold air. Grief wouldn’t strike him now — not while he had to be the one to hold the entire mission together. He had not known Thorald well, but the Gray-Mane clan had been adjacent to the Companions for as long as he’d been in Whiterun, and likely before.
The Nord’s absence had been stark already — a constant worry in the back of Eorlund’s mind that he muttered about while repairing shields and swords for the rest of them. It wasn’t ever just ‘the War’ — never just an abstract thing, as Athis had believed. This was personal, and part of him felt he’d been far too complacent. His place, however, was with the Companions, and that was not about to change, no matter the call to arms Thorald’s death signified, and the kind of chaos that would bring back to Whiterun.
