It's an American book and it's a good book. But for some reason whoever did the translation decided to keep the ethimology part exactaly how it was. The word saúde did not come from an old german word that meant hale and whole (and they keept the english) it came from the latin word salus that means salvation, life preservation and cure.
I understand not changing the original text but they should either not translated to word health or put "O termo health (saúde)" or just made a footnote. The way they put they are just spreading missinformation.
Global Languages: Countries that Speak American, Mexican, & Brazilian
Despite Spanish, English, and Portuguese originating in Europe, the countries that have the most native speakers of these languages are not the European origin countries.
I have seen a bunch of positivity/appreciation/whatever for fanwriters/artists but like. remember to appreciate your scanlators/translators. like the scanlating scene is not what it used to be because the official sources have picked up lot of like. popular mangas but you still rely on scanlators etc for more niche works and... I used to do lot of scanlating and I don't think I EVER got a positive comment or any appreciation and like... at least when I write and share my unhinged fic or art I made it to amuse myself but if I am scanlating a comic I already can read it obviously so ANY work I am putting in is 100% for other people... I have literally scanlated whole-ass series because I knew ONE person read them at all and I wanted them to experience a series I liked. If people don't like your work tho why would anyone do it then?
Italian sì, Spanish sí, Portuguese sim and many more Romance words for 'yes' come from Latin sīc, which meant 'so; thus; like that'. In Popular Latin it got an extra meaning: 'yes', born out of the sense 'like that', i.e. 'like you said'.
French oui has a completely different origin. It comes from Old French oïl, a univerbation of o il, literally 'yes, it (is/does/has etc.)'.
O stemmed from Latin hoc (this), which became òc (yes) in Occitan, a group of languages whose name was derived from this very word.
I love how supportive fit is when it comes to pac's english, it's 100% his teacher brain taking over but it's so nice to see if pac ever struggles with a word, fit'll pronounce it clearly for him and sometimes tell him more about the specifics of the word for fun. Things can sometimes come off as condescending when it comes to language corrections, but he always turns it into more of an informative moment, it's very cool :)
Same with fit asking abt portuguese words too, it was rlly nice to see pac sharing some stuff about minas gerais after helping w fit's pronunciation, I love it when ppl exchange language stuff man
it’s imperative to me that all the non-portuguese speakers know about the portuguese slang “coringar” which literally translates to “to become the joker” or “to have a joker moment” and yes it can be conjugated into whatever tense you like (“conringei” = i had a joker moment, “coringando” = having a joker moment, etc). forever and cellbit use it fairly often and i KNOW the translator won’t be able to pick them up so i need to make it known somehow
[A sad violin song plays over an image of a sad hamster]
Pac: This doesn't have anything to do with me – I wear a blue sweatshirt, you're crazy, this mouse doesn't even have a sweatshirt, this hamster! [Reading chat] Am I a depressed hamster?

Pac: Actually– that's fine! I embrace that idea – of course I'm going to be depressed, are you crazy? [He hits his desk, then starts counting off people on his fingers] Fit is gone, Richarlyson is gone, Ramon is gone, Bagi and Empanada who were always there when we were there are also gone, I haven't seen them! It's just me and Tubbo, and sometimes Philza shows up.
Pac: I lost Chume Labs, I lost the Favela, I lost Murder Mystery, I lost Ilha Chume Labs, it's crazy! Look at how much I've lost, and I've gained nothing! Of course I'm going to be depressed, are you crazy?! How am I supposed to be happy?!
Pac: [Reading chat] "You have us Pac," that's true, thank you. No, that's true, sorry.
