Actually going insane over the implications of Jason asking Dick to be the Robin to his Batman in Battle for the Cowl.

Like I initially took it at the purely surface-level of Jason wanting a partner in the general sense. Which made sense, it's a huge responsibility and a lonely one so an assistant/sidekick/partner seems a no-brainer if you can get one.

But then I really thought about it, because Jason is not asking Dick to be his partner in the general sense; he's not even asking Dick to be his Nightwing. He's asking Dick to be his Robin.

And they both know exactly what Jason means: "Be the light to my darkness. Be the smile to my scowl. Be the hope to my fear. "

He's saying "Be 'Robin'; be the embodiment of Love and Justice and Goodness. Be the exceptional person that you have always been. Be the slightly-less exceptional person that I was when I wore your colors. Be the person that I was in the process of becoming and might have been (or might still be), if only Joker hadn't clipped my wings."

He's saying "I am prepared to become vengeance, become the Night. And I will go further than Bruce ever dared to, because it is what is needed. I will be the necessary evil. But you don't have to be. If Batman is Gotham's curse, Robin has always been its blessing. I will be the brutal punishment to our world, and I am asking you to be its incandescent gift."

Bought the English ebook today, and found out that Miraclerifle, the OG translator, got credited in the official translation!

Seven Seas contacted them into using their translation, and they agreed.

On to the novel, I'm stuffed on where "meaty goddess" came from...

I checked the Korean raws and the fan translation, and there was no sign of that.

There was another instance where the Korean version used "frail girl", but it was "meaty goddess" in the official English one.

I'm still on the first quarter of the ebook, so I'll post later for other weird stuff I see in the official English translation.

Ok, I cannot keep this contained in me any longer, I'm gonna keep all the info after the break for those who are waiting for the English copy and want as little information as possible like I did but I just.

Of all the possible translations of nim they could have gone with. Why Mr????????

Like I can understand the Lord Cale translation. Do I still prefer keeping the original honorifics? Yes. But like, I can understand the Lord Cale, I can get used to that, it makes sense in context I guess.

But why did they translate Choi Han's Cale-nim, to Mr. Cale?????? To Choi Han's knowledge, Cale is 19. Choi han's age is more complicated, but no matter what age you consider him, calling a 19 year older Mr just doesn't make sense. Lord Cale would make way more sense but honestly, Mr feels so distant. Like i know they aren't exactly super close buddy buddy at this point in the novel obviously, but Mr is still a really weird thing to call a 19 year old if you are anyone above the age of like 14 max. Mr. Cale is some Ohn and Hong would say. Even just Cale would be better than Mr. Cale

Especially when they get closer like, you wouldn't call your close friend mister. But like, Choi Han does still have a high amount of respect and such for Cale so he still used nim, but like, English Mr. doesn't work that way. That's why is honestly be more fine with Lord because I can see that being said to someone you're close to more than Mr. It's just. It doesn't fit their relationship, and I don't see what they would change it to when they do get closer and while I did say just Cale is better than Mr. Cale, it's still pretty weird.

It also begs the question if how they'll deal with Hyung because older brother kinda holds the same value I guess? But it just doesn't have the same context and nuance. I honestly don't see why they can't just keep the honorifics and such in, and just have a glossary if they're worried about new readers not understanding what certain words mean, it'll keep the nuance without making things seem weird.

Also Albert is a terrible name choice for both a blue eyed blond haired man, and a dark skinned, brown haired brown eyed man, just saying. Even Alver is better than that, I can never agree with Albert

So, while I'm impatiently waiting another week and a half for my book... I got some interesting behind-the-scenes information?

I won't get into the topic just yet, but... it's regarding the name changes.

Some of which are for the better, in my opinion. Some, I'm completely neutral towards. Some, I cringe and gather my resolve to pretend it doesn't exist or bother me.

In any case, what I learned... makes sense, and will hopefully help me judge the new translation with less of a bias. We shall see! Right now, I am very optimistic :)
