An was trained as a mechanic by her family (including Taiga and Nagi), and intended on continuing to work with her family until Akito came to her for help in finding a missing Ena- she serves as the repairman for the group, as well as 'borrowing' one of the airships for the group that Nagi left behind after mysteriously leaving.

She also lost most of her right arm when she was younger and occasionally wears an electrically powered prosthetic arm- she tends to only use it in public or during specific repairs due to the energy cost and comfort of it.

Kohane is an assassin, trained by a dedicated organization since she was a young child. She was originally tasked with eliminating VBS, but ended up taking the chance to defect and take her own freedom by travelling with them instead. She uses her skills with stealth and ranged weaponry to help defend the group and on missions.

Due to the nature of the organization she was raised/trained by, she was given several modifications such as an artifical eye in order to boost her 'effectiveness'- this ends up backfiring for most of her daily life, as her senses end up being extremely overwhelming. She usually ends up wearing an eyepatch over the artifical eye whenever possible, just to limit the overload, among other things.

not pictured due to their very rough state of development- Akito is an artist trained by his father in an extremely rare craft, along with his sister Ena- when Ena suddenly disappears from their family home a few weeks after their father leaves, Akito sets out to track her down. Unbeknownst to him, he's in an equal amount of danger. He is technically the leader of the group, but lacks a specific skillset he brings to the table.

Toya is a private investigator secretly hoping to leave the job entirely; when Akito seeks him out for leads regarding Ena, he decides to tag along with him to escape the reach of his family. He helps with navigation and finding leads for VBS to follow, as well as sharing pilot duty with An.

Ena... is missing in action, but alive. Possibly. She's more connected than Akito, having a variety of friends whereas Akito knew practically nobody before VBS. An was partially biased to help Akito due to Ena and her sharing mutual friends, despite never meeting.

I've seen a good number of people saying that mizuki's trained card resembles a person hanging

because of thinge like her slight drool, the pose, the ribbon tied on her neck, and more

and this reminded me of an earlier moment in the story:

in chapter 5, niigo goes to mizuki's classroom and participates in the escape room they made. at the end, they get low on time and just look for the key instead of solving the puzzle.

ena looks around in the plushies, since that's where she thinks mizuki would've hidden them. however, she doesn't find the key there.

now, where was the key again?

it was hanging from the ceiling.

additionally, when mizuki thinks about it to herself, there's a specific detail she mentions.

the idea to put it up there, hanging from the ceiling, wasn't mizuki's.

someone else at the last moment said something and made a change.

on this blank canvas i paint is the best ena event and here's why:

so the story is structured as past vs. present, with significant flashbacks to contextualize the decision that ena currently faces. in the past, she was so bad at taking criticism that she ran away and cut herself off from opportunities to improve.

so you might expect that in the present, she'll prove she's become strong enough to handle criticism with grace. but that's not what happens. returning to art class makes her terrified and miserable. the event card literally shows her holding back tears.

but she does it anyway.

in the flashbacks, we find out that her dad didn't necessarily call her untalented, he called her too sensitive to be an artist. this event is where she proves him wrong. she is still sensitive, but she’s also passionate and hard-working. the fact that she's able to feel her feelings now instead of running away from them is a sign of growth.

but then, why is she able to do it now? because she has niigo. she has kanade who needs her, mizuki who understands her, mafuyu who challenges her. for perhaps the first time in her life, she has the unconditional support that can stop her from crumbling in the face of adversity.

Ena is Mizuki's patient and they're somewhat intense with their procedures.

In the end after a very intense operation (involving Mizuki running off and grabbing their toy toolbox alongside their doctor bag) Mizu declares

"Welp, nothing can do, Ena die now. Bye!"

And runs off to get a snack.

this is how i look at people who call Ena "abusive"

istg just cause Akito casually mentioned she would scratch and throw things at him during fights, people act like he was a helpless baby she was beating up, there is less than ONE YEAR between them. they are SIBLINGS. most siblings i know DO fight. i have a little brother and i accidentally pushed him off a bunk bed in one of our rows, by the way some PJSK fans view Ena, they'd want half the older siblings in the world behind bars

and i'll bet you those specific people can excuse Akito's occasional violence (e.g. punching Toya) cause of his strained family- but not his literal SISTER?? who arguably might have a more tense relationship with their father??

i actually get so annoyed when people call Ena a bitch, that is a realistic seventeen year old from a less than ideal home situation
