Thinking about how Chilchuck and Laios started adventuring at around the same relative time in their lives
There are a bunch of similarities to their backstories - leaving home at a young age (14, 12), starting careers in exploring dungeons as young adults (19, 22), developing a complex about the first monster that killed them (Mimics, Living Armor), getting scammed or taken advantage of by other adventurers (succubus-hunting party, gold-peelers) - that they give me "past and future" vibes
Chilchuck is the older mentor to the less-experienced Laios. He joined Laios' party when Laios had only been exploring the dungeon for a year, and Chilchuck regularly gives advice based on his own 10 years of experience in an effort to support Laios as leader. There are several occasions of Chilchuck either teaching or wishing Laios would learn something in particular that he thinks would help with the job
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Laios is a reflection of Chilchuck's past from when he was just starting out as a naive adventurer, while Chilchuck is an example of the future that Laios is striving towards as a seasoned dungeon explorer and leader
Tumblr media
But also, they can represent missed opportunities and paths not taken for each other
An example for Chilchuck is that he isn't treated with the same respect as a tall-man because he is a half-foot. He can lead a union of half-foots, but leading a party of other races, many of whom would infantilize him, is unlikely. There are limitations to what he can do (physically and socially) compared to Laios simply because of how each were born, and it's partly why he's so hard on Laios to make him a good leader and not waste the opportunities afforded to him
Meanwhile as an example for Laios, who left his family and fiancée behind when going out on his own at 12 years old, who wasn't shocked that Chilchuck became a father at 13, and who even mentioned that some tall-men get married at 13, too...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If Laios had never left home, would he, at 13, have married someone from his childhood and also become a father of three?

Still not over Ozzie's having a giant circus tent on top for Fizz. 😭💖
Tumblr media
I don't even care if it was Ozzie or Fizzarolli's idea. It just emphasizes that the club belongs to both of them.

i'm loving how king the land doesn't see any kind of job as lesser, or depict everyone as wanting to move up to another position. it's balanced, and more importantly the focus is that people just want to get what they've worked for, they want to be compensated fairly! i love watching gu won learn the lives of his employees and trying to be better for them. he cares about the hotel but he cares about the personnel too, and that's really rare

So, if I start reading translations online for chapters, do you think I have to start over from chapter 1, or do you think that knowing changes that were made, I won't lose much if I start from where I last finished in playing in the EN version?
I think EN is mostly the same as JP, but key parts of the experience definitely get left out in EN. It’s fine to just play through the localization if you’re looking to generally understand the story. You don’t need to start from the beginning to follow what’s going on. I suggest reading translations if you have the time for it or just cross referencing them if you sense that something feels “off” in the EN version.
There is no comprehensive compilation of all differences between JP and EN; it would be very difficult to search up and educate yourself on every localization change. However, I encourage you to go out of your way to look into these differences when possible; it’s an interesting study of our cultural differences.
Please also note that there is considerable cut content from episode 5! You’ll need to search up the missing scenes on Youtube for the “full” TWST experience.
See the tags for a surprise—

Shipping Cruz with Lightning feels very weird and gross to me.
1. There is a big enough age gap between them that she remembers watching his races when she was kid. She is at most in her early-twenties and Lightning had been racing for ten years by Cars 3 and is considered “old” by a bunch of twenty-something racers in 2017. While an age gap like that isn’t wrong per se, there is that power imbalance in terms of life experience that a romance wouldn’t work. While I image Sally is the older one between her and Lightning, they don’t seem that far apart in age where one of them is +10 years older.
2. Speaking of power imbalances, Lightning was also technically her employer. Technically it’s more of Sterling, but Lightning has some authority and influence over her job so long as he’s working for Rusteze. Yeah Cruz quits at the end, but they were still working together. In that way, him helping out Cruz getting a shot at racing feels like a sort of like a “casting couch” situation.
3. I never saw where people think Lightning or Cruz had or could have romantic feelings. I got always got the impression Lightning was acting more like a father to her. Luckily that seems to be the majority of Cars fans, but somehow tvtropes begs to differ.
Tumblr media
So yeah, I’m not a fan of daddy issues in that regard. Yet somehow my mother thought that Lightning and Cruz were a couple and wondered if Sally would get jealous. Honestly, I rather Cruz just be Lightning’s sort of daughter figure and Sally his girlfriend.
Marriage is overrated and ten years on Sally and Lightning are a healthy, functional couple. Sally has little interaction with Cruz but she seems to like her fine. She was mad at Jackson talking to Cruz and making her uncomfortable (I would too, especially if Armie Hammer was talking to me) and was very complimentary of her Dinoco paint job at the end. Sally has no issue with Lightning spending time with a younger woman because she trusts him and their relationship. Healthy relationships.
However, that doesn’t stop me from shipping Cruz/Natalie Certain and Sally/Holley. I’m more of a yuri fan than yaoi, but it’s understandable why yaoi is more prominent in this fandom.

Also, kinda weird for EN's Will arc to be 'I lied about being with my manager because I feel like I'm wrong for not being attracted to people as much as/in the way everyone else seem to' and not really anything about 'I am a teenager whose manager hit on him and am now in a vulnerable position'.

I just hate that 19 year old gullible girl who got her first ever job six months ago in hopes to earn some buck only to be overworked and forced to spend the nights awake to deal with all the workload while severely undermining her own uni studies

Oldest known paycheck shows workers being paid with beer.
This clay tablet not only shows that beer is a popular beverage but also shows that economic relationship between employee and employer has already been established.
According to the cuneiform writing on a nearly 5000 year old tablet, workers in Mesopotamia were rewarded for their labor in daily rations of beer.
Dated 3300 BC, the tablet was found in the Sumerian city of Uruk and is one of earliest known examples of writing.
According to Alison George in New Scientist, the tablet, which is the oldest known paycheck in the world, tells that workers prefer their daily share of beer as a salary.
This beer was also distributed by employers.
Cuneiform was a kind of caption.
In this tablet, which is currently in British Museum, image of a person eating from a bowl means "food ration" and a cone-shaped container means "beer."
Alison George says semicircular scratches scattered across tablet also record amount of beer a particular worker takes.
According to George, this makes the tablet as the "oldest known paycheck in the world, implying that concept of employee and employer was familiar even 5,000 years ago."
Annalee Newitz of Ars Technica points out that these wages were not meant to keep workers drunk so that they would be more obedient.
In ancient world, beer was a starchy and satisfying beverage and could be used as a meal as well.

For the ask/ship game!
Moon x Suki!
And
Johnny x Nooshy!
Ok, a two parter, let's do this!
Disclaimer: I mean no malicious or have any negative feelings or emotions towards people who like these ships or have differing opinions from me. You do not have to agree with me. Just everyone be respectful if everyone's opinions and let's all be nice ok?
----------------------------------------
Buster x Suki: Really Don’t Ship It
So, I do not ship this for two main reasons. One being that there was no real moments I saw that could be read as romantic. They were legitimately just doing their jobs in every scene. And for the scenes where Suki is helping stop Crystal, I think pretty much anyone would have willing stopped an active murder attempt, that's just being a good person.
And two, the big one, there would definitely be a power inbalance in this relationship. In both instances, either at the Majestic or at Crystal Theatre, Buster is technically Suki's boss. And there's a reason that employer/employee relationships are at the very least very frowned upon by almost all companies. It's usually a horrible idea due to one partner being in a position of power over the other which can be, and sadly historically has been, used to abuse or manipulate the lower ranking in the company partner.
Do I think Buster would do that? No. But I also don't think that a relationship between a boss and employee would be looked upon positively by anyone around them or by Suki and Buster themselves. Suki was just in an abusive workplace, I don't think she would risk a situation like that again.
There's also the comment that Suki was much younger than what the troupe was expecting her to be. That implied that Buster is older than her and we have no idea how big that age gap is. Is it ten years? Twenty? Five? We have no idea, and until we do, that does cast the ship into a much more iffy light to me.
For me to like it, there would need to not be a power inbalance in their relationship. Again, employer/employee relationships are not a good idea, especially not legally. I would also like clarification that their age gap is not that large for this, since even Rosita commented on the fact that Suki was much younger than they were all expecting.
I mean, it's interesting? It would be an interesting dynamic to work with of a chaotic impulsive partner and one that is very structured in the way they do things.
--------------------
Johnny x Nooshy: Really Don't Ship It (they're siblings to me).
Now, I do get why people do ship these two, I just never personally saw it. Not only is Johnny's story a queer coded one (I explain more in my Rynny ship game ask), but to me the two behave like siblings. Honestly, they act like siblings. They support each other and are there for each other, but Nooshy does encourage Johnny into participating in dangerous activities (jumping out the window, continuing to fight when he should have gotten help), like an older sibling does. None of that came across as romantic to me.
In fact, during their first meeting Nooshy does think that Johnny is asking her out which he immediately clarifies that he is not. If there had been some attraction there already, I do think that Johnny would have at least responded differently (maybe more hesitation or stumbling over words, he is a character that behaves awkwardly in emotional moments).
Not only that but they seem to be in very different places in their lives. Johnny is just figuring things out. He started singing professionally max around two years earlier and has been acting the same amount of time. He's new to his industry, just starting to dip his toes into the water. Nooshy on the other hand, is hinted at being an experienced dancer. She's been preforming and existing in her field for much longer. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if she was getting ready to start her own dance group or start choreographing. She's a professional. That difference would cause a ton of issues in a relationship in my opinion, as Nooshy is at the point that she can start going up the ranks in her career while Johnny is still figuring out what he wants to actually do.
That life stage plus Johnny's approach to life being more cautious and playing it safe, in comparison to Nooshy's impulsive and risk-taking attitude, I honestly don't think a relationship would last very long if it were to happen at all. I feel like they would butt heads too much over that sort of thing and while those differences work well with sibling dynamics, it does not work in a relationship.
If they were both on the same page in life, we know for a fact that they can communicate, and have seen they behave in an implied romantic manner (not just friends or siblings), then yes, I could see it.
Like I said earlier, I see where people are coming from, I just honestly don't get it. But still, almost everyone I've ever met who ships this are really lovely people so, other than my opinions, I don't have anything negative to say about it.
----------------------------------------
Again, these are just my opinions and reasonings, you do not have to agree! If you have any questions or want me to go more in detail, let me know.

daffodil :   is your muse one to be loyal in relationships ,   or are they likely to quickly move from one bond to another ?
—  𝐌. | BOTANICAL HEADCANONS.
(  daffodil  )   is your muse one to be loyal in relationships ,   or are they likely to quickly move from one bond to another ?
as seraphina’s relationships usually vanish within a decade or so,    either from her moving away suddenly or the other getting older or whatnot,    when sera makes a new relationship she is very loyal to that person as means of ... simply treasuring the relationship;   she keeps the friendships that have lasted close to her,    treasures to some extent her business relationships,    and she does make an effort to stick alongside them for the moment,   if not through thick and thin.    in relationships [  primarily speaking friendly platonic ones  ]  seraphina leaves no room for the other person to doubt that she does,  in fact,  consider them a friend.

is it normal for your boss to ask why you're requesting a day off because i've never had to justify it at my previous jobs and it makes me feel gross that he even feels as though that is an appropriate question to ask
#not just as my employer but to ask a woman who is almost 40 years younger than you personal questions...#it is not the first time and the thing is my other boss never asks me why i'm taking a day off and keeps a respectable distance#but this one pries into my life and tries to develop a relationship beyond work#he has made inappropriate comments in the past such as asking if a certain man was my type and something worse i won't divulge here#he even will go as far as trying to park his car next to mine when he comes into work - and mind you we have a huge parking#it's so weird. the other day i was waiting in my car cause i was 10 minutes early and he did the exact same thing#like waited for me to get out so he could get out and walk up to the floor of the office together.......#bro you're the one who has the key to the door. why are you waiting for ME#he'll even purposely exit work at the same time as me and practically watch me drive away#i honestly could go on and on about things he does that make me uncomfortable#there aren't many employees in this building and most work from home or other locations so i'm very alone in here#sometimes i feel bad complaining because this job is the easiest one i've ever had but other times i feel exploited in ways beyond workload#it's not like he does this every day but it's enough to be uncomfortable without crossing any lines so what can i do really#i just don't wanna keep belittling the things people do to me and pass them off as okay when they're not#because i clearly feel it in my body and i don't deserve to let myself ignore that. and i'm tired of being in a bad mood all the time#i've started applying to other jobs again even though i hate that i hate changing jobs i hate starting new somewhere#but it's what i have to do and at least this time i've gathered enough experience to be selective in where i apply#it has to be way better and more convenient and a higher salary. for me to leave it has to be worth it.#**
