I'm forcing Essek to use an emoji: 13. What's an emoji, an emoticon and/or any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot?
I keep trying to pick a Midst character for this question too, and I can't bc they're all too good for this. idk pick one for a bonus ig
(send me a character ask!)
LMAO I actually do think Essek would use emojis primarily for specificity or tonal reasons. (Caleb would either refuse to use emojis ever or he would be that menace who's reinventing hieroglyphics. Absolutely no in between.) I think his top emoji would be 👍 (no specified skin tone) because he's not sending a whole extra text when he could react with a thumbs up as acknowledgement of receipt. (He does not have read receipts on. You will know he saw it when he deigns to react.) But I think he would also use 🤔 a lot, specifically to express dubiousness about claims in the group chat (usually Jester or Veth, but anyone is fair game). NOT 🤨 or 🧐, crucially. He also uses 🖤 for heart purposes, which he uses in extremely rare scenarios.
Also you're so right, all of the Midst characters are so good for this, so I'm gonna pick one with no explanation for each main character because it's funny. Is it the one I associate with them? Is it the one they would use? I leave that to your imagination. 😌
Lark: 😶
Phineas: 🫠

Women on dating apps will be like "here's a few things you should know about me." and it will just be 30 emoticons.
What the fuck do you mean a picture of a cake is something about you? You like to eat cake? Are you telling me you're fat? You like to bake? You like birthday parties? Today is your birthday? You're a professional pastry chef? You're a stripper who pops out of cakes for a living what do you mean?! We've evolved past using hieroglyphs use words.
Do younger guys use emoticons that much that they know what these chicks are talking about or have women just developed their own pictograph language no men understand because we're out here speaking enlgish like a bunch of idiots.

I’m so happy to write for the GetBackers. While I’ve never finished the manga, for obvious reasons, I love the anime and some of these boys are my favourite boys of all time! I hope anyone familiar with the fandom will enjoy these headcanons for Shido, based off this prompt here!
2-4 songs that are probably on their iPod?
Shido doesn’t actually own an iPod or any music device. He’s not really that into most music, with most of what he likes being what Madoka plays. And he doesn’t need an iPod to listen to that, since she plays for him often, because she knows he enjoys listening to her as much as she loves playing for him.
The one place they sometimes end up falling asleep, where they’re not supposed to?
I think Shido sleeps easiest outside, even when he does shack up with Madoka, and he has a bad habit of falling asleep on the lawn or especially of falling asleep up in a tree.
The game they’d destroy everyone else at?
Don’t bother trying to play hide and seek with Shido because there is no way, like zero percent chance, that you will win. He’s beyond amazing at that games to the point where he would often get accused of cheating. And maybe he does cheat, just a little, by talking to the animals around but he’s just using all the skills at his disposal.
The emoticon they’d use most often?
Shido doesn’t really get texting and he’s very, very bad at it. He won’t understand emoticon’s unless they’re super obvious…he’ll know the smiley face does mean that you’re happy or smiling but some of the other ones will read like ancient hieroglyphs to him.
What they act like when they haven’t had enough sleep?
Shido gets really cranky when he doesn’t get enough sleep. He’ll be irritable, snappish, and will just want to be left alone and to have peace and quiet. As much as he loves Madoka, he’ll even want space from her at these times.
Their preferred hot beverage on really cold nights, or mornings, or whenever?
Shido likes coffee in the mornings but tea at night. He’s a really big fan of peppermint tea in particular, just plain, before bed.
How they like to comfort/care for themselves when they’re in a slump?
He gets away from everything, seeking out the most secluded spots he can get, preferably in nature. When he’s feeling down or bothered in the least, he needs to reconnect with nature, surround himself with his friends in the animal kingdom, and just get away from people and noise so that he can get his head back in order.
What they wanted to be when they grew up?
Shido never dreamed about what he wanted to be when he grew up. Honestly, he didn’t, and still doesn’t, believe that he’ll live into old age. He focuses on the present, on the current moment, and lives as in the moment as he can instead of wondering about the future.
Their favourite kind of weather?
Shido prefers clear, bright days. While he’s not a fan of the sweltering summer, he also really hates the cold, so fall or spring days where the sky is blue and birdsong is all around…those are his ideal days.
Thoughts on their singing voice (decent? terrible? soprano? alto?)
I honestly strongly headcanon that Shido isn’t a bad singer. He has an ear for music and just naturally understands pitch and tempo. Living with Madoka allows him to even better hone that ability. I think, more or less, that he just doesn’t sing often and that, when he does, his voice always sounds like it’s been out of use for a long time, with a bit of gravel and hesitancy to it.
How/what they like to draw or doodle?
He doesn’t draw or doodle often but is artistically gifted, at least when it comes to drawing animals. Anything else he’s rubbish at. But animals…they look almost realistic if he takes his time and isn’t just rushing out a hurried drawing.

I’ve been experimenting with what’s called a “waterfall release” 🌊 Of course ideally I’d love to have a large audience that’s ready to digest every note & word of a completed work... In reality, with no real fan base, or any other way to distribute the music, it makes sense to release songs one at a time (then group them together later) if only to adapt to our new media: the Social. I could expound on the fact that I’ve spent much more time creating “content” in the last year than creating music… but I won’t. What’s more, any professional social media manager would look at what I’ve done and say “not enough.” Part of me thinks it’s the greatest scam in history, getting us all to work for Instagram and Tiktok for free, another part is grateful for the opportunity to share and for the occasional supportive word from strangers. What do you guys think about it: SM in general and how it’s changed the way new artists release music? We might as well have an open forum for discussion while we’re being fed ads constantly, and use the ol’ keyboard once in a while—before all text is written for us by Ai using up-to-the-minute cultural tropes and emoticon hieroglyphics…] Oh yeah the point of this post was to say that REViSiONS EP is now listenable as a proper album on Spotify and Apple, not just a playlist, and that I’m releasing a brand new track Feb. 15! Follow/add me if you would, this actually makes a difference on Spotify (and I think pre-saves are useless so I’m no longer asking for them). PURE LiGHT - February 15th on Meta Universe Records @sydwoodward_ 📸 #newmusic #musicrelease #socialmedia #musicmarketing #spotify #meta #rant #coverart https://www.instagram.com/p/CoKdk3FL0jm/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Keep on banning words Tumblr… ya’ll just encouraging this hellsite to continue to develop its own language, (we already got hieroglyphic memes, emoticons, hellsite specific phrases, inside jokes, etc.) further solidifying its status as a sub-culture. For as you anthropologists, sociologists, linguists, etc. know, language is at the core of culture.
Go forth Tumblr users. Make this site a hell! (affectionate)

do the ROs and Seer have any habits they consider embarrassing? for instance i was just caught dancing while doing the dishes hdjdjshdj absolute vibe killer 🙈🙈
if not!! do they have a favorite emoji?? ((hope you’re having a good day rhi!! 💐💕))
Rory and Liam/Lily don’t get embarrassed by much. Rory because they just don’t have any shame, Li moreso out of spite.
Azalea talks and sings to her plants and gets very embarrassed if someone catches her doing it.
Sebastian and Kana are very good at hiding if they’re embarrassed by anything, but it happens. Both of them are most embarrassed by accidental displays of emotion 🤣
Rory uses way too many emojis. Speaks in emoji hieroglyphics or using as few letters as possible
Li is fond of 🖤😉💀👀. they type in complete words but are allergic to capitalization and punctuation
Azalea likes flower emojis, unsurprisingly. And hearts. uses proper capitalization but also shorthand where appropriate
Sebastian types like an old man. Proper grammar and punctuation. Very few emojis except occasionally a 😒 and maybe, when romanced, a ❤
Kana uses emojis (or more often emoticons) as punctuation :) why end a sentence with a period when you can go ;) instead

A hieroglyph (Greek for "sacred writing") was a character of the ancient Egyptian writing system. Logographic scripts that are pictographic in form in a way reminiscent of ancient Egyptian are also sometimes called "hieroglyphs" -An emoticon short for "emotion icon",also known simply as an emote, is a pictorial representation of a facial expression using characters—usually punctuation marks, numbers, and letters—to express a person's feelings or mood, or as a time-saving method. The first ASCII emoticons, :-) and :-(, were written by Scott Fahlman in 1982, but emoticons actually originated on the PLATO IV computer system in 1972. The use of emoticons can be traced back to the 17th century, drawn by a Slovak notary to indicate his satisfaction with the state of his town's municipal financial records in 1635,but they were commonly used in casual and humorous writing. . . . . . . #acient #historyrepeatsitself #evolution #emoticons #instagram #language #hieroglyphics #instaknowledge #now#fun#suarurday#knowledge #humanity (at Acropole Athènes) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxCLeUpBqid/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1xqduzlr6c898

Reversion
youtube
It was fifteen Octobers ago and the three of us were sweating in Tom's coffin sized room because his sister Caroline was using the shared computer. Left with little else to do but watch the same ten looping videos on Scuzz TV and play cards we swiftly grew disillusioned with the few games we knew. Having no money made most of the games dull; there was more tension in wondering when the shelves in Tom's room would give way under the weight of the home recorded VHS tapes of Coronation Street he kept.
We might have gone outside, but none of us were sporty. Instead, we decided to create a new game: Reversion. The rules elude me now (as then), but I can still picture the cards laid out. Seven cards formed an H (originally a sad R we agreed looked more like an A), and the rest were divided amongst the players equally. It was difficult perched on Tom's bed to hold such a large hand correctly, and we often dropped them.
Every card played in Reversion had to be played next to another, Tetrising the original H beyond recognition. The cards had a cascading effect on every other card in play, swapping their places or forcing your opponents to pick them up. This was the aim of the game: discard your hand, and revert the cards in play to your opponents'.
Constructing the rules was easy, learning to apply them was harder. Our dog eared notes were hastily rewritten as flaws and simple win strategies appeared. This was proof that Reversion was a real game, because we cared enough to insist on an element of truly random luck. Eventually, the formal rules were agreed, though the sheet looked more like Caroline's MSN chats than anything so lofty. Tom's sister had bound custom emoticons to nearly all of her keys, so that her sentences looked Tokyo hieroglyphic, all flashing lights and pictograms. We had tried objecting to her taking the shared computer on this basis, but this fell on deaf ears. This, too, was the application of the rules.
Tumblr media
Tom's dad was a cop, and had a cop's insistence on the rules. Reversion was a game we played in near silence, and Caroline listened to 'My Humps' furtively, on headphones. A card played in Reversion had a cascading effect, and could swiftly upturn the order of the game.
A drizzly Saturday morning one month after we invented the game, we held the finals of the World Championship. The people we had foisted the game on during school had fallen aside. I suspect they didn't fully grasp the rules. Tom, however, had yet to lose a game.
With no proper recollection of Reversion I can't tell you how he did it. Even when Tom explained it later, all he managed to do was convince me of the gulf between our minds. I was, at the time, having near nightly arguments with my parents about how much I detested maths class. No wonder, then, that it appeared a form of magic to me. Our hands would swell phonebook fat in our hands while Tom cackled and brayed and his VHS tapes trembled on the shelf. His mother crept up the stairs to whisper at him to keep it down. He dutifully apologised, and we decided to spend the little money we had anointing Tom as the champion.
Tom's dad wasn't the kind to give lifts, so we were soaked through by the time we got to Burger King. Tom was disappointed when he found out that they didn't have any cardboard crowns left. I made him one out of napkins instead.

I headcanon atem as someone who, through text, communicates solely with emoticons and emojis (cause, you know, ancient pharaoh, hieroglyphics, etc)
And yet yugi and Seto always know what he’s saying
