Tatreez by Pickles-Elegantee.

Did you know that Palestinians have a long cross stitching tradition? It’s called tatreez and a textile artist, Zain Masri, compiled and published thousands of historical design patterns into a free library! I’ve very much enjoyed the opportunity to feel a connection to Palestinians via my favorite art form.

Smoking Flapper WIP stitched and designed by Pickles-Elegantee. Pattern, $7.99.

“This pretty lady was originally made as a bridge tally card in the 1920s by Gibson and Co. Here’s what I found about the company. The original illustrator is unknown.

Anyway, I thought the bold graphic nature would make for a great cross stitch and I was right! Designed it and started stitch myself. A great project if you’re in the mood for filling in large swaths with just one color. Can’t wait to share further progress and future designs based on some of her other illustrated flapper friends!”
