With gas prices fluctuating dramatically, fuel efficiency has become a top priority for car shoppers. Finding a vehicle that squeezes every last mile out of a gallon of gas can lead to huge savings at the pump. This guide will highlight the passenger cars, SUVs, and trucks that achieve the highest MPG fuel economy ratings. We’ll overview the 10 most fuel sipper models available in the US market. Whether you seek a gas mileage hybrid, diesel, or electric vehicle, there’s an ultra-efficient option to fit your needs and budget. Let’s review the top gas savers! What Impacts a Car's Gas Mileage? The miles per gallon a vehicle can achieve is influenced by: Weight - Lighter vehicles require less energy to accelerate and move. Aerodynamics - Sleek, low-drag designs encounter less wind resistance which saves fuel. Engine Size - Smaller displacement engines use less gasoline. Transmission - More gears optimize efficiency and reduce rpm. Accessories - Features like A/C compressors sip fuel. Driving Habits - Aggressive acceleration and speeding hurts MPG. Automakers optimize all these factors to maximize mileage and minimize consumption. Top 10 Highest MPG Vehicles Here are the 2022 models offering the best fuel economy based on EPA estimates: 1. Hyundai Ioniq Blue - 59 MPG Combined Hyundai Ioniq Blue Hybrid drivetrain 133 horsepower 4-cylinder 58 mpg city/60 highway 2. Toyota Prius Eco - 56 MPG Combined Toyota Prius Eco - 56 MPG Combined Iconic hybrid with proven reliability 121 horsepower hybrid powertrain 57 mpg city/53 highway 3. Hyundai Elantra Hybrid - 54 MPG Combined Hyundai Elantra Hybrid - 54 MPG Combined 139 horsepower hybrid 57 mpg city/56 highway Affordably priced compact sedan 4. Kia Niro PHEV - 52 MPG Combined Kia Niro PHEV - 52 MPG Combined Plug-in hybrid SUV 26 miles electric range 48 mpg city/44 highway 5. Kia Niro EV - 112 MPGe Combined Kia Niro EV - 112 MPGe Combined 201 horsepower electric motor 120 MPGe city/97 highway 239 miles range 6. Lucid Air - 131 MPGe Combined Lucid Air - 131 MPGe Combined Cutting-edge luxury EV Up to 520 mile range 131 MPGe city/117 highway From $87,400 starting price This list provides a diverse selection of the most fuel stingy new cars spanning hybrids, EVs, sedans, hatchbacks and SUVs. All achieve over 50 mpg or 100 MPGe ratings. Best Electric Cars for Gas Savings Full battery-electric vehicles offer the ultimate gas mileage since they use zero gasoline. Here are the top 3: Tesla Model 3 - With no engine and minimal friction, the Model 3 can travel up to 358 miles between charges according to Tesla. Running costs equate to about 3 cents per mile versus 12 cents for gas vehicles. Polestar 2 - This sporty Swedish EV achieves an EPA estimated 233 miles from a full charge. That’s about 4 miles per kWh which beats most competitors. Hyundai Kona Electric - The subcompact Kona Electric SUV is rated for 258 miles range by the EPA, yet starts under $35,000. It offers a very economical electric option. While range and charging times continue improving, EVs make the most sense for drivers who charge at home and take mostly short trips. The economics work less for long highway driving.
Best Hybrid Cars for High Mileage Here are three high mpg hybrid standouts on the market now: Toyota Prius – The icon of fuel sippers. Now in its fourth generation, the Prius L Eco trim achieves an incredible 56 mpg combined. This affordable hatchback has proven hybrid tech. Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid – Hyundai has optimized the Ioniq to return 59 mpg combined, edging out even the Prius for efficiency. A sleek shape and lightweight materials pay dividends. Toyota Camry Hybrid – With the practicality of a midsize sedan, the Camry Hybrid LE still achieves a frugal 52 mpg combined. This demonstrates hybrid scale across vehicles. Hybrid tech works well across sizes from compacts to family sedans. And they don’t require any charging infrastructure. Best Compact and Subcompact Cars for MPG For those wanting a smaller fuel-efficient vehicle, these economical compacts deliver: Hyundai Accent – Hyundai’s smallest sedan achieves 33 mpg combined from its 120 horsepower engine. An affordable entry-level new car. Toyota Corolla – Offering up to 35 mpg combined from its 139 horsepower engine, the 2022 Corolla sedan remains a benchmark for reliable efficiency. Honda Civic – Reaching 36 mpg combined, the 2022 Honda Civic impresses with polished driving dynamics and practicality for about $25k. Chevrolet Spark – Chevrolet’s mini Spark runs on just a 98 hp 1.4L engine yet achieves 33 mpg combined as an urban commuter. For drivers covering modest mileage or wanting basic transportation, an economical subcompact can save plenty on fuel. Best Midsize Sedans with High MPG Moving up a class in size, these sedans deliver the best mpg: Toyota Camry Hybrid – The Camry’s chiseled style conceals a 52 mpg powertrain, proving midsize hybrid sedans are practical. Hyundai Sonata Hybrid – Returning 50 mpg combined, the swoopy Sonata Hybrid looks more expensive than its reasonable low $30k base price. Honda Accord Hybrid – The popular Accord Hybrid combines 47 mpg with nicer driving dynamics hitting a sweet spot for families. Kia K5 – Kia’s sleek new K5 impresses with 39 mpg from its 180 horsepower turbo engine along with premium details. Midsize sedans like the Camry and Accord have proven their gas mileage mettle after decades on the road in hybrid form or conventional powertrains. Best SUVs with High Fuel Economy While less efficient than cars, these SUVs deliver relatively thrifty fuel usage: Hyundai Tucson Hybrid – The compact Tucson SUV achieves 38 mpg combined as a two-wheel drive hybrid model. Toyota RAV4 Hybrid – Also a compact, the RAV4 Hybrid touts 40 mpg combined with Toyota’s hybrid expertise. Ford Escape Hybrid – The Escape compact SUV reaches 37 mpg combined for under $30k with its hybrid powertrain. Lexus NX 450h+ - This luxury compact SUV leverages a plug-in hybrid system to return 33 mpg and 34 miles EV range. Tesla Model Y – While expensive, the electric Model Y crossover achieves up to 121 MPGe combined. SUVs will never match sedans for efficiency but these models minimize the gap while offering practicality. Best Trucks for Gas Mileage Even trucks now tout miserly mpg if you avoid the mighty V8s: Ford Maverick – Ford’s new compact hybrid pickup truck can achieve 37 mpg combined with its standard 2.5L 4-cylinder hybrid powertrain. And it starts under $20k! Hyundai Santa Cruz – This unibody pickup can return 28 mpg combined thanks to its 191 horsepower turbo engine in base form. It feels like an SUV. Ford F-150 PowerBoost – The full-size F-150 is shockingly efficient by truck standards, getting 25 mpg combined from its PowerBoost hybrid V6. Ram 1500 EcoDiesel – Running on diesel fuel, the Ram 1500 4WD achieves 26 mpg highway which is unheard of for a big truck. Truck capabilities and fuel efficiency no longer remain mutually exclusive with carefully engineered modern pickups. 5 Tips to Improve Your Mileage No matter what car you drive, certain habits can boost your mileage:
Observe speed limits - Wind resistance rises exponentially above 50 mph Avoid aggressive acceleration - It wastes gas with no benefit Plan routes wisely - Combine multiple errands into the fewest trips Check tire pressures monthly - Under-inflated tires create drag Remove excess cargo weight - Extra mass saps fuel Being smart about how you drive avoids leaving MPG on the table. Key Factors Impacting EV Range Range for electric vehicles depends most on: Battery size - Measured in kWh. More capacity extends range. Regenerative braking - Recaptures energy when slowing down. Aerodynamics - Sleek, low-drag design enhances efficiency. Weight - Heavy vehicles require more battery capacity. Tire efficiency - Low rolling resistance tires minimize energy loss. Outside temperature - Cold weather saps battery performance until it warms up. Driving style - Hard acceleration and high speeds reduce miles per charge. Understanding these factors helps maximize miles from each charge. Federal Tax Credits for High MPG Vehicles To incentivize efficiency, the federal government offers tax credits on select vehicles: Electric vehicles - $7,500 credit up to a 200,000 unit manufacturer cap. Plug-in hybrids - $4,502 credit also with maximum limit. Hybrid vehicles - Some qualify for a $4,000 tax credit. The credits lower effective purchase prices, though not all models are eligible. The credits phase out once an automaker sells over 200,000 units. Consult your tax professional for how hybrid and EV credits apply to your tax situation. faqS Below are 5 key questions to consider when shopping for a gas mileage vehicle: Should I buy used or new for maximum mpg? For the highest fuel economy, buying new gives access to the latest technology like hybrid drivetrains or electric vehicles. However, used vehicles remain far more affordable. How much more will higher mpg save me in fuel costs? Every 5 mpg increment saves about $100 per year in fuel costs assuming 15,000 miles driven annually. Use gas mileage calculators to estimate your savings. Do turbocharged small engines offer more efficiency than larger naturally aspirated ones? Yes, small turbo engines like 1.5L or 1.6L motors often outperform even hybrids since new turbos are very efficient. What color car paint provides the best gas mileage? Lighter paint colors reflect heat more, reducing air conditioning usage and improving mpg marginally. White, silver, tan and light blues are ideal. Should I buy an older hybrid or newer conventional car for max mpg? Typically a newer conventional car with advanced engine and transmission tech will match or exceed an older hybrid model in mpg. Newer is better for efficiency. These quick tips help ensure your next vehicle provides maximum miles per gallon. Key Takeaways The vehicles offering drivers the highest fuel economy provide the following advantages: Dramatically lower expenditures on gasoline over time Reduced environmental impact from lower emissions Potential eligibility for federal tax credits Lower cost of ownership over life of vehicle With gas prices fluctuating dramatically in recent years, maximizing efficiency has become crucial. This list of the most fuel sipper cars, SUVs, and trucks demonstrates how selecting wisely can save thousands in fuel costs down the road. Whether a hybrid, diesel, EV, or just highly optimized gas engine model, the vehicles with the top mpg deliver value at the pump. Consider what efficiencies make the most sense for your driving needs, then start saving on every trip! #Wiack #Car #CarInsurance #CarRental #CarPrice #AutoLoans

According to reports from Financial Express, the 2020 i20 features a premium sound system.
The eight-speaker setup includes Super65 units that will be installed on the front doors of the updated hatchback for an enhanced audio experience. Similar audio hardware was seen fitted to luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz and Audi adding to the premium factor.
The premium sound system could very well be a best-in-class feature along with some of the others that are featured on the i20. It comes with two 10.25-inch displays for the instrument cluster, and the touch-screen infotainment system, respectively.
The touch-screen infotainment system supports Android Auto, Apple Carplay and the brand's latest iteration of Bluelink connected technology. The updated software provides a host of additional features to the driver with a new layout and colour scheme on the screen.

This i20 is its third iteration and features a host of design changes to the exteriors of the hatchback. This includes an all-new front facia with cascading grille and restyled headlamps which are much sleeker as compared to the older ones.
At the rear, the new split-tail lamps are connected by a light bar running across the length of the boot lid. It also comes equipped with a newly designed dual-tone alloy wheel that gives the hatchback an aggressive look.
By now you should be able to find a used Hyundai i20 for sale on Group 1 Hyundai’s website and score a 2020 i20 at a very sexy price...

Here's How The 2022 Honda Civic Compares With The New Elantra
New Post has been published on https://coolcarsnews.com/heres-how-the-2022-honda-civic-compares-with-the-new-elantra/
Here's How The 2022 Honda Civic Compares With The New Elantra
The market regarding compact cars has been giving method to crossovers and SUVs recently. However , while there are now less compact sedans than 5 years ago, those still within the segment continue to up their video game with impressive entries, plus Ford is usually no exception.
The particular competitively priced Civic continues to be the best-selling compact vehicle in the US, and the newly introduced 11th generation 2022 Honda Civic is the latest conjunction with that lineup. It has a lot of changes from the prior generation.
Ford is not the only player within this space though. Toyota has become a long-standing giant in the market associated with compact sedans, and you aint able to write off Hyundai possibly. The latter company has been a thorn in the flesh for the competent Honda for a few decades, plus its next version will be planning to do more damage.
The 2021 Elantra from hyundai came with major improvements within the previous generation, and we anticipate the unannounced 2022 Elantra to carry on with most of them.
Both the 2022 Honda Civic and the 2022 Hyundai Elantra will arrive the marketplace as second-gen updates of the refreshed design. This creates a very interesting comparison. Therefore without further ado, why don't see how they stack up towards each other.
RELATED: Custom Honda Grom Gundam Is The Japanese Mashup A person Didn’t See Coming
The 2022 Honda Social will feature the same two motors that came with the previous era. The first three trims SORENTO LX, Sport, and EX, will have the naturally-aspirated 2L 4cyl engine under the hood generating 158 hp and 138 lb-ft torque capacity. The top-end Touring cut will get the turbocharged one 5L 4-cylinder engine, using some improvements. It will create up to 180 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, an increase associated with 6 hp and fifteen lb-ft of torque compared towards the 2021 model.
In case you were hoping for the come back of a manual transmission, you're from luck, as all trims can come with an updated continuously variable transmission (CVT) driving the front tires. According to Motor Illustrated, energy economy is improved along with combined fuel numbers of 6. 9L/100km for both engines and everything trims.
The Hybrid model integrated, Hyundai offers three powerhouse with the current Elantra, and it is fair to assume that it will stay the same for 2022. The bottom Elantra is powered by a naturally-aspirated 2L 4-cylinder engine that will produces 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque. It comes regular with Hyundai’s Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) and manages combined energy numbers of 6. 7L/100km.
The sporty Elantra N Line features a turbo charged 1 . 6L 4-cylinder motor that delivers 201 hewlett packard under the hood. It comes with a 6 speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, while the cross comes with a six-speed dual-clutch automated.
Each cars offer similar inside tech and safety features, however the Hyundai seems to have a slight advantage.
The 2022 Honda Civic comes with a 7-inch touch screen, a new fully electronic instrument display with multiple configurations, Android Auto, and Apple company CarPlay. It also boasts many safety features like adaptive vacation cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, forwards collision warning, road leaving mitigation, and more. Honda has additionally done something quite fascinating on the dashboard, with a honeycomb finish hiding and beautifying the particular vents.
For the Touring trim, the infotainment screen is beefed as much as 9 inches and combined with a 10. 2-inch electronic instrument display. There's also wifi charging, a Bose 12-speaker sound system, and more safety and driver-assisted technologies.
The current 2021 Elantra from hyundai comes with a bottom 8-inch touch screen, Android Car, wireless Apple CarPlay, a good HD radio, two UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS ports, four audio loudspeakers, and voice recognition. There's a grab handle that stretches from the center console plus divides the two front chairs. In the safety department, Hyundai has added features like lane-keeping assist, forward collision caution, blind-spot monitoring, driver interest warning, automatic emergency braking system, and more.
Shifting to the top trim gives you a 10. 25-inch digital device display and a much larger ten. 25-inch touchscreen. You also obtain an eight-speaker Bose sound system, navigation, and wireless smart phone charging. You can expect the 2022 Elantra to carry over these functions when it comes around.

Pricing information for that new 2022 Honda Social is not available just yet. Nevertheless , you can expect it in order to stay close to the 2021 Social, which ranges from $22, 245 to $29, 295, as quoted on Forbes.
When compared to Civic, the Elantra's prices info is even more of the mystery, for obvious factors. However , you can expect something much like the current model, which expenses between $20, 655 plus $26, 455, according to Vehicles Direct.
The redesign of the 2021 Elantra saw a significant quantity of changes for the compact four door. The sleek and contemporary styling, spacious interior, effective engines, and impressive listing of standard features helped take those Elantra to the very top of the small sedan class. The particular 2021 model was fantastic, and we don't expect Hyundai to make any significant modifications for 2022.
Nevertheless , despite its improvements, the particular highly successful Honda Civic is way ahead. The Elantra is steadily crawling the way to the top, but presently, the Civic and Toyota Corolla remain at not possible heights. Will this situation modify in the future? It will be interesting to find out.

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is the new compact crossover segment leader
New Post has been published on https://appradab.com/the-2022-hyundai-tucson-is-the-new-compact-crossover-segment-leader-2/
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is the new compact crossover segment leader
The new Hyundai Tucson is fantastic both to drive and look at.
Daniel Golson/Roadshow
Hyundai isn’t falling into the industry-typical habit of making all its new cars look like Russian dolls. From the Sonata to the Palisade to the Elantra, every new Hyundai debut is more interesting than the last. But they’re more than just great pieces of design — these products are well-rounded, too. The 2022 Tucson crossover isn’t just Hyundai’s latest model, it’s the company’s best one yet.
Like
Radical exterior styling
Supercomfortable ride
Impressive interior design
Loads of features and tech
Don’t Like
Tepid four-cylinder engine
Touch controls aren’t for everyone
Crossovers can be cool, too
Like the new Sonata and Elantra, the Tucson will surely be divisive, but I absolutely love it. Easily the most striking part of the design is the Tucson’s face. The wing-shaped “parametric design” front grille has angular inserts and a dark chrome-ish finish, and the LED running lights and turn signals are integrated into the grille, appearing hidden when off. Meanwhile, the main headlights and high beams are in the larger pods in the lower bumper. It’s a distinctive solution and looks awesome, especially at night.
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is a radically styled compact SUV
See all photos
The rest of the Tucson is cool, too. It’s got squared-off wheel arches reminiscent of the Lamborghini Countach — yes, really — and lots of intense character lines and surfacing details. My Tucson’s Amazon Gray paint has tons of metal flake and looks green under direct sunlight, showing off the lines perfectly. The greenhouse is accented by a spearlike chrome strip that gets thicker at the D-pillar, but otherwise there’s not a lot of jewelry. The slash-shaped taillights have a unique signature and are connected by a full-width light bar, and the placement of the Hyundai badge in the rear glass is interesting.
Globally the 2022 Tucson is offered with two different wheelbase lengths, but we only get the longer one in the US. The 2022 model is 6.1 inches longer, 0.6 inch wider and 0.6 inch taller than the outgoing Tucson, and it’s on a 3.4-inch-longer wheelbase. Passenger volume and cargo space are up, too, besting the Toyota RAV4 in both metrics but falling a little short of the Honda CR-V. The rear is especially roomy, with reclining seat backs that easily fold flat and a fold-down armrest with cup holders and storage. The cargo area also has an adjustable load floor with two height levels.
The Tucson gives us Lamborghini Countach vibes.
Daniel Golson/Roadshow
An interior you need to touch
While more restrained than the exterior, the Tucson’s interior still stands out. It has a waterfall dashboard design with thin air vents that wrap all the way around the rectangular dash and onto the door cards, and a large center panel that houses the infotainment system and climate controls. Most trims get analog gauges with a 4.2-inch display in the center, but optional on the SEL and standard on the Limited is a nice 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The Limited also gets a push-button gear selector instead of the physical shifter found on the other trims.
Cloth upholstery is standard, and the base Tucson has plastic door panels, but supportive leather seats and soft-touch door cards are standard on the Limited and available on the SEL. I definitely prefer the two-tone light gray and black color scheme you see here, as the interior looks more sterile in all black. One of my favorite details is the Limited’s cool fabric inserts on the door panels and on the dash in front of the passenger; I wish that material had been used more throughout the interior.
The base Tucson uses an 8-inch touchscreen, but Limited models like my car get a 10.3-inch display running the same fantastic infotainment system that’s found in a number of other Hyundai Motor Group products like the Santa Fe and the Kia K5. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the board, but only cars with the 8-inch screen get wireless CarPlay. The large display looks really good and is super snappy, and I like that you can swipe over to a simple display that just shows the clock and exterior temperature info. It’s also got fun features like nature soundscapes, and there’s a quiet mode for the audio that focuses the noise on the driver.
This is an extremely nice place to be.
Daniel Golson/Roadshow
While the lower-end Tucsons have a bunch of physical buttons and knobs, the Limited replaces them with an entirely touch-sensitive panel for the climate, audio and infotainment controls, and a digital display for the temperature and fan speed. I’d like a home button for the infotainment and want the buttons to have some sort of force feedback, but they’re easy to get used to. You can hold your finger on a button to quickly adjust fan speed or volume, and I love that Hyundai has multiple intensities for the automatic climate control.
Comfort over corner carving
The Tucson’s standard powertrain is a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-4 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It makes 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, nearly identical to the Honda CR-V’s turbo motor and 16 hp and 6 lb-ft less than the RAV4’s four-cylinder engine. Front-wheel drive is standard, but my test car has the optional $1,400 all-wheel-drive system that has variable torque distribution. This engine is perfectly fine around town and on the highway, but it certainly doesn’t make the Tucson quick or sporty-feeling. The transmission can be sluggish to downshift, but at least the Limited comes with paddle shifters.
The Tucson’s steering is both lightly weighted and light on feedback, and there’s a good amount of body roll in the corners. But what this crossover lacks in sportiness it makes up for in comfort. Even on the Limited’s 19-inch wheels the Tucson soaks up bumps and rough surfaces, delivering a superb ride that’s smoother than any of its competitors — even the refined Mazda CX-5. It’s luxury-car quiet on the inside, too, though the noisy engine sometimes cuts through that serenity under hard acceleration.
The Tucson’s rear seat reclines and folds flat.
Daniel Golson/Roadshow
The EPA rates the Tucson at 26 mpg city, 33 mpg highway and 29 mpg combined for the front-drive model, while the AWD Tucson is rated at 24/29/26. In mostly stop-and-go city driving I average about 22 mpg, but on a long drive from Los Angeles to Bakersfield I match the Tucson’s 29-mpg highway figure — and that’s at 85 mph with elevation changes and the air conditioning on.
Every Tucson trim level is available with a new hybrid setup that pairs a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor for a total of 261 hp, and it’s rated at nearly 40 mpg. While I haven’t had a chance to drive the Tucson hybrid yet, with turbo response, more power and better efficiency, it might be the powertrain to get. But there’s also a plug-in hybrid on the way with 261 hp and 32 miles of electric range, and the recently revealed Santa Cruz pickup, which is based on the Tucson, has an available turbo-four engine with 281 hp and 311 lb-ft that’s paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Tucson N, anyone?
Lots of bang for your buck
The base Tucson SE starts at $26,135 including $1,185 for destination, making it cheaper than rivals from Honda and Toyota. It comes with full-LED front lighting, automatic headlights and high beams, 17-inch wheels, keyless entry, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist with lane centering, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, a pair of front-passenger USB outlets and HD radio.
Upper trims get a 10.3-inch screen and touch controls.
Daniel Golson/Roadshow
Jumping up to the $27,685 SEL nets you LED taillights, push-button start, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, two USB outlets in the rear, heated side mirrors, a powered driver’s seat, heated front seats, auto up/down front windows, satellite radio, blind-spot assist, rear cross-traffic assist and a number of aesthetic improvements. A $2,600 Convenience package adds things like a hands-free power liftgate, 19-inch wheels, a sunroof, that digital gauge cluster, a leather-wrapped shifter and steering wheel, 10-color ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control and wireless charging. There’s also a $1,700 Premium package with leather seats, ventilated front seats, a Bose audio system and the dark chrome grille. Then there’s a $31,785 N Line trim that builds off the SEL and its packages with more aggressive exterior styling, unique interior trimmings and sportier tuning for the suspension and steering, though it doesn’t add any extra power.
The fully loaded $35,885 Limited model like I have includes features and tech items that would have been unheard of in an affordable compact crossover not even 10 years ago. In addition to everything from those SEL packages, it adds a panoramic sunroof, more exterior brightwork, a 360-degree camera and parking sensors, Hyundai’s Digital Key phone app, memory for the driver’s seat, a powered passenger seat, rain-sensing wipers, remote smart park, 64-color interior ambient lighting, blind-spot cameras that display in the gauge cluster, heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel, and Hyundai’s Level 2 Highway Driving Assist system. Strangely, one feature that the Tucson doesn’t have is auto up/down rear windows, which is a weird omission given how much other fancy stuff you can get.
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson’s styling won’t be for everyone, and that’s OK. I think it’s better to stand out and be memorable than to be anonymous and fade into the background, especially in such a packed and traditionally boring segment. If you’re into the angular looks — or can at least get past them — the redesigned Tucson offers the best mix of tech, features, refinement and value of any new compact crossover today.

2022 Hyundai Kona N spy shots: Hot crossover sheds camo
A hot version of the Kona subcompact SUV is coming later this year, and the vehicle has just been spotted without any disguise during an official photo shoot in Germany, close to where the Nürburgring is located.
Hyundai N boss Albert Biermann as early as 2018 had revealed he had already tasked his engineers with starting work on the Kona N in order to persuade senior management to give the vehicle the green light for production. We’ll see it reach showrooms later this year as a 2022 model.
vimeo
The Kona N is the first crossover offering in Hyundai N’s growing lineup of dedicated performance models and will come with a similar mechanical setup to the 2021 Veloster N, and 2021 i30 N sold overseas. A 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 and 8-speed dual-clutch transmission will be standard, though it isn’t clear if drive will be to all four wheels in the Kona N or just the front pair like in the Veloster N and i30 N.
The 2.0-liter engine in other Hyundai N models has ratings of 246 and 275 hp, while the 8-speed DCT, a Hyundai N-exclusive item, has a number of performance-oriented shift programs built in that alter the transmission’s shift pattern depending on the style of driving. They are the NGS (N Grin Shift), NPS (N Power Shift) and NTS (N Track Sense Shift) programs.

The latest spy shots reveal an aggressive design for the Kona N, with the front end in particular dominated by large air intakes and a lip spoiler. A tamer version of the design features on the Kona N Line due on sale this spring as a 2022 model. Other interesting features include the dual-wing design at the rear and large exhaust tips. Hyundai also looks to be continuing the trend of using fake vents as design elements on the Kona N’s rear fascia.
Hyundai fans can look forward to seven N models in showrooms by the end of the 2022. The first three have already arrived in the form of the updated Veloster N and new Elantra N Line and Sonata N Line, all of which arrived for the 2021 model year. These will be followed by the aforementioned Kona N Line, a Tucson N Line, an Elantra N and this Kona N.

The 4th Generation Elantra GT
In 2018 Hyundai premiered its 4th generation Elantra GT, the impressive sport model is paired with a 1.6 litre turbo charge four cylinder that provides 210 hp and 195 lbs per foot of torque. Combined with a 6 speed manual transmission in the sport model or a dual clutch 7 speed automatic transmission in the sport ultimate, it is definitely an European inspired mid size car!
The Elantra is also available in three other trim levels, the GL, GLS and Sport Ultimate are priced in order with our focus vehicle sitting in the third tier.
The comparisons to perceived upscale Euro model competition does not stop there. Improved performance in the GT Sport models is also evident in the multi link rear suspension and 18 inch wheels. It is worth noting that you will find 16 inch wheels on the GL model and 17 inch tires on the GLS.
One noticeable aesthetic change that is very evident is what Hyundai calls a “cascading front grille” design that is expected to be Hyundais new look from a branding perspective. On the inside of the sport model, black leather interior and red sticking accents further stress the european influence.
In real word highway driving conditions the Sport model provided a decent 7.1 litres per 100 kms. Not bad for a 200 hp plus engine.
The tech is there too; the now standard touch screen display with rear view camera is present as well as a nifty cub hole for your smart phone that includes wireless recharging. The quiet interior is also a plus for longer trips!
Notes on the interior include an eight direction powered adjustable seat on the Sport mode for drivers l and a six direction manual adjustable drivers sear on the 2.0’s. Standard on all models is an eight inch screen in the centre of the dash. Hyundai’s answer to OnStar is Blue Link Telematics. You can find this on the Sport Ultimate model at no additional cost for five years. All GT trim levels include a back up camera, blind spot detection and a rear cross traffic alert system. The rear seats fold, but they are not completely flat as many have become accustomed to in typical modern wagon inspired hatchbacks. That said the Elantra GT offers 705 cubic litres or 24.89 cubic feet.
For those with the budget and an need for a sporty mid size hatch back with good fuel economy and premium features at a reasonable price point, the Elantra GT could be a winner!

2021 VW Jetta GLI wraps youthful performance in grown-up styling

2021 VW Jetta GLI wraps youthful performance in grown-up styling
The GLI is everything we love about the GTI in a Jetta-shaped wrapper.
Emme Hall/Roadshow
The 2021 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is what happens when a hot hatch grows up. This sporty sedan has all the trappings of its rowdy GTI sibling, packaged in a handsome, mature wrapper.
Like
Excellent handling
Powerful turbo engine
Handsome design, if a bit dull
Don’t Like
Numb steering
Bad infotainment tech on the base trim
The GLI sets itself apart from the standard Jetta with larger air intakes, a low front spoiler and unique side skirts. The grille takes some styling cues from the GTI with its honeycomb pattern and classic red accent stripe. The GLI sits 0.6 inches lower to the ground than the standard Jetta and has a unique rear bumper and diffuser, as well as dual chrome exhaust tips. But even with these sporty touches, the GLI still slides under the radar.
The Jetta GLI is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 engine pushing out 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque — the same powertrain you’ll find in the GTI. The GLI comes with front-wheel drive, and while you can get a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, my tester has the six-speed manual. Score.
My Autobahn trim comes complete with the DCC adaptive damping system, with modes for Normal, Sport and Eco, as well as a Custom setting. DCC allows me to dial in that Custom configuration, with individual options for the damping, steering, drivetrain, engine sound, front differential and even climate controls.
However, I don’t think the Custom setting makes much of a difference. Despite trying out a bunch of different setups during my week with the car, the Normal and Sport modes work just fine. Much of my praise for the standard Sport setting is thanks to the limited-slip front differential that works with the GLI’s electronic differential lock. Torque goes to the front wheel with the most grip, there’s little to no understeer and wheelspin is nonexistent.
The 2.0-liter engine produces 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.
Emme Hall/Roadshow
The base Jetta gets an old-school torsion-beam rear suspension, but the GLI upgrades that hardware to a multilink independent setup. Combined with the GLI’s beefier roll bars and stiffer springs, this sedan is definitely ready to play. It swiftly settles after pavement undulations, coming out of an off-camber turn with nary a hair out of place. The steering is quick, direct and weighty, though it could use a bit more in the way of feedback. The 13.4-inch vented front brakes are lifted from the Golf R hatchback, paired with 11.8-inch diameter brakes in the rear. These stoppers are solid, although I wish the pedal’s engagement point was just a tad higher.
The GLI is a blast on backroads, but it’s fine for daily commuting, too. Standard on the GLI are advanced driver’s aids such as forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. My top-level Autobahn trim goes further with lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. Yes, adaptive cruise control works with a manual transmission, although only at higher speeds. There isn’t any kind of low-speed follow and once the GLI thinks it will stall, the system disengages and the driver takes over.
The Jetta GLI’s fuel economy is respectable, returning an EPA-estimated rating of 24 miles per gallon in the city, 33 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined. Even after a week of decidedly aggressive driving, I’m still able to hit that 28-mpg average.
The interior is mostly fine, but lacks visual flair.
Emme Hall/Roadshow
Inside, the GLI’s cabin tech is simple and straightforward. The standard infotainment setup uses a tiny 6.5-inch display, but the Autobahn bumps that up to a nicer 8.0-inch screen running VW’s latest MIB3 technology. This system can handle multiple Bluetooth phone pairings at once, and I love that the screen is angled towards the driver so it’s easy to see and reach. MIB3’s menus are laid out thoughtfully so there isn’t a big learning curve, either. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard, and in addition to a wireless charging pad, there are three USB-C ports and a 12-volt outlet to keep your devices juiced.
The Autobahn trim has Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit, a 10-inch customizable gauge cluster that gives the driver all kinds of information like vehicle data, driver-assistance feature status and audio and phone access. It can also be customized with different designs, including a full-screen navigation view. It’s not quite as fancy-pants as Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, but it’s essentially the same idea, and one of my favorite car interior features.
The GLI Autobahn gets an 8-inch touchscreen.
Emme Hall/Roadshow
It’s a bit of a bummer that the GLI isn’t offered with any quirky interior design touches like the GTI hatchback’s plaid seats. All you’ll find here is black cloth or optional leather with contrasting red stitching. The Jetta at least has a 10-color LED ambient lighting system that coordinates with your selected driving mode: white for Normal, red for Sport and blue for Eco. If that doesn’t suit your mood, you can choose your own colors, as well.
Like the standard Jetta, the GLI’s interior materials are good but not great. Some of my colleagues lament the cheaper plastics and too-soft seats, especially since the GTI’s cabin feels more premium by comparison. The sedan’s trunk is fairly spacious at 14.1 cubic feet, and my 5-foot, 9-inch frame fits just fine in the rear seat — my knees don’t touch the front seatbacks and my head doesn’t brush the roof.
As far as competitors go, you can still snag a Honda Civic Si, or the all-wheel-drive Mazda3 Turbo is a good option, though it’s more expensive. The new Hyundai Elantra N Line has a little less power than the GLI, but it’s also offered with a manual transmission and has some seriously cool design. The Subaru WRX is another alternative, but it’s getting a little old, and the Jetta is a nicer all-around car.
The GLI certainly flies under the radar.
Emme Hall/Roadshow
The 2021 Jetta GLI starts at $27,340 including $995 for destination. The Autobahn is a $4,000 upcharge, and while I don’t think the customizable DCC chassis makes a big difference, the cabin tech is significantly better. All in, an Autobahn with the six-speed manual like this test car costs $32,335.
Of course, the GLI’s biggest competitor is the GTI sitting next to it in the VW showroom, and the Jetta undercuts its Golf equivalent by a few thousand dollars while still providing basically the same on-road thrills. The GTI’s hatchback design is a lot more practical, but the GLI feels like an altogether more grown-up package — though it’s still more than willing to get a little rowdy.
