It's a curious thing, how my muse and my writer's brain work. I can have a ton of fanfic ideas for a show I've watched and loved for a while. But I cannot, for the life of me, organise these ideas into well-developed pieces of writing. And then there're situations when something new comes along and inspiration strikes me. It's akin to an adrenaline boost that allows me to write super fast. This boost, however, doesn't last long. It's usually enough to get a one-shot down. So, while I'm riding my "adrenaline high", I've got this Duy Beni fic idea. It's a future speculation that, I'm pretty sure, at some point will turn into canon divergence because, once Ekim learns the truth about Kanat's involvement in the accident, things won't play out this way. But let's imagine it going like this: Kanat falls in love with Ekim first. She also starts developing feelings for him but her focus is on Leyla and finding those responsible for the accident. Kanat is torn between his feelings for Ekim and the need to keep the truth about the accident a secret. In the end, he gives in and tells her that he was the one who blackmailed his teacher into driving that car. He doesn't tell Ekim about Melisa and Ozan though. But Ekim knows that Kanat hasn't told the whole truth and suspects that Melisa's involved too. This one-shot takes place some time after Kanat tells Ekim about his involvement in the accident.
I don't own the show or any of the characters. They belong to the writers, production company and the channel. This is only fanfiction.

The Greatest Privilege of All
Ekim looks up at the sky-high office building and then down at the phone in her hand. She checks the geolocation that Hazal shared, accompanied by a text: "Meet me on the roof".
"How does she expect me to get there? As if they grant the free access to everyone", Ekim mutters to herself but moves to the building entrance anyway.
Through the rotating door Ekim enters into a lobby with a huge reception desk and a turnstile for the employees. She's eyeing the turnstile, when the movement from the corner of her eye catches her attention.
"Ekim Hanım?" a young woman approaches Ekim with a friendly smile and a security pass in her hands.
"Hello! Yeah, that's me", Ekim says with a polite nod.
"Hazal Hanım is expecting you. The elevator on the left will take you to the rooftop", the woman says, pointing at one of the elevators and handing Ekim a security pass.
Ekim thanks the woman, uses the pass to go through the turnstile and moves to the elevator. Once inside, she presses the button to the rooftop.
"Hazal and her crazy whims. Couldn't have chosen a café for a meeting, like all normal people", Ekim thinks and shakes her head with a small smile.
Even with her crazy whims, secrets and friendship with Kanat, Hazal has wormed her way into Ekim's heart and managed to become a close and dear friend.
A ding of the elevator signals its arrival to the rooftop and pulls Ekim from her thoughts. The doors open and Ekim takes a tentative step outside. The doors close behind her, leaving Ekim on the roof that presents a truly breathtaking view. She takes in the city stretching as far as her eyes can see, the tops of business towers, the clear blue sky. And then her eyes land on him.
"Offf, Hazal...", Ekim whispers.
Of course Hazal would trick her into meeting Kanat on the rooftop of a skyscraper with very limited escape routes. Just when Ekim turns back to one of them - the elevator - she hears him say:
"I asked to cut off the power so you won't be able to use it for the next hour".
Ekim takes a deep breath and turns to face him. He's close now, way closer than she feels comfortable with. That's why she takes a step back and starts to search frantically for the access to the stairs.
"And the door to the stairs is locked", Kanat adds.
"So, that's your plan: to lure me to a place with no way out and force me to talk to you?" Ekim exclaims with annoyance.
"Yeah", Kanat responds easily, as if it's totally normal and there's nothing twisted about this.
And that's the whole problem - that the twisted has become his normal.
All of a sudden Ekim feels all annoyance and anger leave her. She's just... defeated.
"I don't want to talk to you, Kanat. Because there's nothing to talk about. You made it clear that you won't tell me who was with you that day, even though I think I know who that person is. You won't go to the police and confess. And you know I cannot go to the police because I don't have any proof. Even if I tell them that you confessed to me, we both know that you'll just deny everything".
"You know why I cannot go to the police. I told you about my father, what he's capable of. You have no idea what he'll do to my mom and my brother if he finds out the truth about the accident ".
"Well, you should've thought about this before you decided to play a sick game with your teacher!" Ekim yells in frustration.
"He wasn't innocent! We were trying to teach him a lesson. I told you that!" Kanat yells back, taking a step closer and crowding into Ekim's personal space.
"And who the hell were you to teach him a lesson? Are you the police? Or angels of vengeance? Oh, no, how could I forget? You're spoilt rich kids who think they own everything and everyone. No rules apply to you, you just do whatever the hell you want. You play with people's lives!"
By the end of her tirade Ekim's out of breath. She's in Kanat's personal space now, their chests almost touching, his heavy breathing ghosting over her face. They're staring each other down. But other than Kanat's usual stubbornness and challenge, that Ekim's so used to, there's also desperation and longing. So much longing that seeing it is akin to touching a raw nerve. That's why Ekim almost jumps away from Kanat. She cannot deal with his feelings and emotions right now, not when her own are threatening to drown her.
She puts as much physical distance between them as possible and turns away from him, from his pleading eyes, his handsome face that tricked her into believing that he was just as beautiful inside.
"You know what made me fall in love with you?" his voice behind her brings Ekim back to reality.
"Stop, please... I don't want to hear it", Ekim whispers.
Kanat goes on as if she hasn't spoken:
"It wasn't your beauty even though you're as beautiful as a girl can get. It wasn't even how brave you were, always going toe to toe with me, never backing down. It wasn't that big brain of yours that is so freakishly good with numbers but can also write prose and poetry. It was your heart and your ability to love. The way you love... So utterly and purely... With so much passion. I wanted that. To be on the receiving end of your loving gaze, your protectiveness. To have this privilege of being loved by you".
Ekim squeezes her eyes shut as if this alone could help her block Kanat's words. She feels tears slipping from under her closed lids when she utters:
"And you could've been loved by me. You were".
"But not anymore?" Kanat asks in a small voice that is so unnatural coming from him.
Because there's nothing small about him. He's tall and muscular and loud.
"Do you really hate me that much?"
At this question, Ekim finally decides to face him again. His eyes are still pleading but also moist now, his face as handsome as ever.
"I don't hate you. But I'm also not in love with you anymore".
The words are hard to say. But not because they're not true. Ekim isn't lying. She doesn't feel in love. She still loves him though. But this love is like an echo now.
And because Kanat's always been good at reading her, knowing exactly when she lies, he sees the truth of her words now. That's why whatever light, still left in his eyes, goes out, leaving them dead and empty. A shadow falls on his face as he presses his lips together tightly and gives her a short nod.
"Then I guess you're right - we really don't have anything to talk about. I'll make a call to get the elevator running again. Just give me a moment".
As Kanat takes his phone out of his pocket and turns away from her to make a call, Ekim realizes that she's lost a privilege of her own - seeing his sincere happy smile, the one that's born out of the knowledge that you're loved, and the hopeful look in his warm chocolate eyes.

I've had this idea since Rıza smashed Kanat's guitar in one of the early episodes. As much as I'd like them to do something like this I doubt they will. But let's imagine this as a missing scene while Ekim and Kanat are still together and the whole Gaye mess hasn't broken them up.
This is also my first attempt at writing Kanat's POV.
I don't own the show or any of the characters. They belong to the writers, production company and the channel. This is only fanfiction.

Close Your Eyes
Kanat hears light steps echo in an empty school hallway. Even without turning back he knows who that is. He'd recognise the sound of these footsteps anywhere. And when the person gets close enough, Kanat catches a barely there scent of her perfume.
"Trying to sneak up on me, Ekim Hanım?" he asks teasingly, still facing his open locker.
His answer is a frustrated grumble:
"How did you know it's me? You have an eye on the back of your head or something?"
Kanat chuckles and slams his locker's door shut before turning to face Ekim. Her little pout is so adorable it makes him want to kiss it off. Which he does because he can. Because she's finally his and he's hers, has been from the moment she looked into his eyes for the first time.
The kiss is slow but chaste. When Kanat pulls away, he doesn't go far though, pressing his forehead to Ekim's.
"I've missed you", Kanat whispers in the space between them.
Ekim lets out a soft laugh at that.
"Don't be ridiculous. We've seen each other plenty. First you picked me up from home and we came to school together. And then we spent the long break together".
"It wasn't nearly as long as it should've been. And outside of school I have to let you go home. But I want us to share it. Have a home where you'll always be by my side".
Kanat feels Ekim go stiff at his words. She starts pulling away.
"Kanat, please, don't. We've talked about this".
"More like I try to talk about it and you avoid it all together", Kanat argues.
"Okay, we will talk about it but not here and not now. Deal?" Ekim relents.
"Deal. But soon, okay?"
Ekim nods and takes one of Kanat's hands in hers, pulling on it slightly.
"Right now I want you to come with me".
"Where?" Kanat asks, his interest piqued.
"It's a surprise", Ekim responds with a mysterious smile.
But as soon as they start moving she stops abruptly, slapping herself on the forehead.
"Offf ya! I almost forgot!"
"What?" Kanat asks, puzzled.
Ekim doesn't say anything, just lets go of Kanat's hand and pulls something from an inside pocket of her school jacket. Once she takes the object in both of her hands, Kanat sees that it's some kind of a black scarf.
"Turn around and close your eyes. And maybe bend down a little cause you're ridiculously tall".
Kanat laughs at that but turns around with a shake of his head, closing his eyes. He bends at the knees to make himself shorter and allowing Ekim to get the scarf over his eyes. He feels Ekim secure it with a knot.
"Okay, ready. Turn back around".
Kanat gets to his full height and slowly turns around.
"Can you see anything?"
"Nope", Kanat replies with a smile.
He dutifully keeps his eyes closed under the scarf, which leaves him completely blind. It isn't unsettling though. Kanat knows that Ekim is with him and when she takes his hands into her soft little ones, he lets her lead him, wherever she pleases. He would go anywhere with her and after her. Into total darkness and hell itself.
Kanat hears Ekim's voice, guiding him.
"Careful, careful... Let's turn right here. Okay... Now stop. Wait".
Kanat hears the ding of the elevator and they slowly get inside. After the elevator ride Ekim guides him for a few more minutes, until they stop and Kanat hears the door being opened. They take a few more steps when Ekim finally says:
"We're here. Just give me a moment. Don't take off the blindfold until I say so, okay?"
"Okay", Kanat agrees with a smile.
He hears Ekim shuffling around, then her nervous intake of breath and:
"Okay, you can take off the blindfold".
Kanat does as he's told, pulling the blindfold off and over his head without untying it. He blinks his eyes open and sees that he's in the music room. He turns his head to his left and there she is - Ekim, holding a guitar in her hands. It's not a school guitar but a new electric guitar, with a red bow attached to it.
"Surprise!" Ekim exclaims with a small nervous smile.
Kanat just stares at the guitar in her hands and the longer he remains silent the more nervous and uncomfortable Ekim looks.
"I know about your old guitar. The one your grandfather got for you. Aziz told me that your father... Anyway, I know this one cannot and won't replace what you lost. It's also probably not as good as..."
Kanat doesn't give Ekim a chance to finish. In one quick stride he closes the distance between them and cuts her off with a fierce kiss, his hands bracketing her face. The guitar is trapped between them though and doesn't let Kanat to get as close to Ekim as he really wants to. That's why he pulls away. Ekim looks up at him in a daze and whispers:
"Hey".
"Hey", Kanat says and suddenly feels a little choked up.
"I take it you like your surprise?" Ekim asks with a smile.
"I love it. I love you".
Ekim's eyes soften and she answers with her own:
"And I love you".
Then she takes a step back and offers the guitar still in her hands to Kanat.
"Why don't you check if it's any good?"
Kanat takes the guitar with a smile.
"I'm sure it's perfect".
"C'mon, play something for me".
"Okay, okay..." Kanat agrees with a laugh.
He sits down on a nearby chair and places the guitar on his lap. He runs one hand over the instrument with reverence. It looks remarkably similar to the one that was his grandfather's gift. The flashes of memory - a horrible memory where something so dear was smashed to piece right in front of him - bring hot tears to Kanat's eyes. Kanat squeezes his eyes shut and feels the tears roll down his cheeks slowly.
"Kanat?" Ekim says in a tentative voice.
Kanat opens his eyes and looks up at her. Ekim's face crumbles when she sees his tears.
"I... I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have. It was a bad idea".
Kanat shakes his head.
"No. You haven't done anything wrong. More than that, you've done something great. Noone has ever done anything like this for me".
Kanat carefully sets the guitar aside and extends his hand to Ekim. She comes willingly, grasping the offered hand and when Kanat pulls on their joined hands, lands on his lap with an "offf". Through their mixed laughter Ekim asks:
"What are doing? Are you crazy? We're at school, you know".
"Almost everyone has left, nobody is going to come here", Kanat counters.
He pulls Ekim closer and buries his face in her neck and Ekim relents, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and leaning her head on his. Eyes closed, Kanat presses his lips to Ekim's neck. Her pulse picks up. And right here, with Ekim's erratic heartbeat on his lips, her scent and her warmth surrounding him, her breath ghosting over his face - this is where Kanat wants to stay forever. But he knows that nothing lasts forever. They have only now, only this moment. And in this moment they have each other. So Kanat breathes Ekim in and keeps his eyes closed.

I started writing this after having seen the second trailer of Duy Beni episode 8. I was glad to finally see happy and smiley Ekkan, spending time together. It does feel rushed, especially with everything going on around them and Kanat's involvement in the accident hanging over their heads. I'm 99,9% sure the writers will use it to break them up. But I decided to keep my expectations low and I might as well enjoy some Ekkan fluff while it lasts.
The scene of them cooking inspired this little one-shot that I really want to fit into the canon as a missing scene.
I don't own the show or any of the characters. They belong to the writers, production company and the channel. This is only fanfiction.
____________________________________________
The Way You Look At Her
Ekim knows that she probably looks ridiculous, with a dopey lovesick smile risking to split her face in two. She chastises herself in her head and tries to school her features. Then she sneaks a glance up at Kanat. He's already looking down at her with the same lovesick smile Ekim had a few moments ago. And the look in his dark orbs... god, that's the definition of heart eyes.
"So... What's the plan? What are we going to do while we're being selfish?" Ekim asks tentatively.
"Have you eaten? Because I haven't and, to be honest, I'm getting hungry".
"I might've skipped breakfast today too", Ekim says with a little smile.
"Then we could prepare breakfast together. What do you think?"
"I'd love that".
They walk the rest of the way to Kanat's house in silence, their hands clasped together tightly, fingers entwined. Ekim feels the weight of Kanat's hand in hers and it is so natural, so comforting and warm, so real and so sure.
When they get to the house, Kanat lets go of Ekim's hand only long enough to open the front door. Once inside, he quickly renews his grasp. Hand in hand, Ekim and Kanat move in the direction of what must be the kitchen and then stop abruptly in the doorway when they see Kanat's mother, who's placing something carefully into plastic food containers.
"Mom? What are you doing here? I thought you left to go to the hospital", Kanat says carefully.
Kanat's mother opens her mouth to answer and turns her attention from the task at hand to her son. She snaps her mouth shut and seems to freeze for a moment, when she sees Ekim, who suddenly feels uncomfortable and out of place. She makes an attempt at pulling her hand from Kanat's but he doesn't let her, keeping his big hand wrapped tightly around hers.
"Oh, you have a guest. Nice to see you again, dear. Ekim, right?" Kanat's mother asks, recovering quickly.
"Yes. Good to see you too, Suna Hanım. Sorry for coming unannounced again".
"You're welcome anytime", Suna Hanım says with a smile. She then adds, looking at Kanat:
"I'm just picking something up for your father. But I'm already done and will be out of your way in a moment".
"Do you need some help with that, mom?" Kanat asks, already taking a step forward.
"No, dear, I've got it".
Ekim sees the opportunity and seizes it immediately.
"You know, I could really use the bathroom", she tells Kanat quietly.
"Sure, it's the first door on the right, down that hallway", Kanat says, nodding in the direction.
He finally lets go of Ekim's hand, allowing her to make a quick exit. Once in the bathroom, Ekim splashes her face with some cold water and washes her hands. She glances at herself in the mirror, noticing that she looks a little flushed. Taking a deep steadying breath, Ekim dries her hands and face and makes herself leave the bathroom, understanding well enough that she cannot hide there all day.
As she's moving to the kitchen, Ekim hears hushed voices of Kanat and his mother. She's close enough to hear Kanat's next words that make her stop short.
"You didn't ask me about Melisa".
"I didn't have to. I know you wouldn't be here with Ekim if you were still involved with Melisa romantically. And I know it hadn't been really working out for you way before you met Ekim".
There's a beat of silence which Kanat's mother breaks with:
"I never saw you look at Melisa the way you look at Ekim. You never looked at anyone the way you look at her".
"Mom, I... I love her", Kanat says and Ekim's heart leaps into her throat.
"Yeah, you do", for some reason Suna Hanım sounds almost... sad.
"And I'm so happy for you, that's all I ever wanted for you. But..."
"I know", Kanat interrupts and there's heaviness in his tone that makes Ekim anxious.
"No need to worry about anything today though. Just be with her. While you can", Suna Hanım says.
Then there's movement in the kitchen that signals that it's time for Ekim to make herself known. She walks quickly the remaining few steps and enters the room in time to see Kanat's mother with a bag of containers, ready to go. Suna Hanım gives Ekim a warm smile:
"Ok, it's time for me to go. You, guys, have fun".
Ekim nods with a smile and then hurriedly asks:
"Are you sure you don't need help? Maybe Kanat should go with you to the hospital? We can raincheck".
"No-no. There's nothing I need help with. And Kanat's still recovering. Staying home with you to keep him company is all he needs right now".
Ekim feels her cheeks heat up slightly.
Suna Hanım says something to Kanat that Ekim doesn't catch and then she's gone, leaving Ekim and Kanat alone. Ekim turns to face Kanat, whose eyes are already on her. There's definitely something about the way he's looking at her. And it makes the feeling in Ekim's chest stir. The feeling that with every new day seems more and more like love.

So, after having seen Duy Beni bölüm 10 fragman, I wasn't actually surprised. A little disappointed that they'd go with suicide blackmail plot - yes. But it is what it is. So an idea for a one-shot came to my mind. I'm sure it'll turn out being canon divergence because whatever happens between Kanat and Ekim after Melisa threatens to jump off a cliff won't go like this.
I don't own the show or any of the characters. They belong to the writers, production company and the channel. This is only fanfiction.
_____________________________________________
Eternity At Our Feet
Ekim looks down at Kanat's outstretched hand, the bracelet she gave him just a few hours ago hanging loosely from his fingers. The bracelet hasn't even stayed around his wrist for one full day. Not even one goddamn day! Ekim feels a strange mix of a hysterical laugh, a scream and a sob bubble up in her throat.
She should've seen that coming, should've known better.
"He'll hurt you. He cannot love like normal people do", Hazal's words come back to ring in Ekim's head loudly.
Hazal... Offf, Hazal... Why have you allowed me to get close to him, to get to know him, to fall in love with him?
Ekim shakes the thought off immediately. It wasn't Hazal's fault. It wasn't even Kanat's.
Ekim risks a glance up, at Kanat's face and into his eyes. She sees it clearly: how much it hurts him to hurt her. Without taking her eyes off of Kanat's, Ekim hooks her fingers around the thread of Kanat's bracelet and pulls. The bracelet falls into her palm. Still maintaining eye contact, she blindly tugs and pulls at her own bracelet, until it's off her wrist. Only when both of their bracelets are heavy in her palm, does Ekim drop her eyes to look at simple pieces of jewelry.
"So much for eternity and taking on the world together, huh?" Ekim mutters quietly but loud enough for Kanat to hear her.
"Ekim..." Kanat tries and takes a step closer to Ekim but she moves away and out of his grasp.
She lets the bracelets slid from her hand. Kanat's eyes are immediately drawn to the grass at their feet and their promise to each other that hasn't lived a day. His face is twisted in so much pain that Ekim almost gives in to the urge to comfort him. But then she remembers that the hole in her chest is his doing.
"You said that we're friends. This won't change, will it? At least I'll get to have you as my friend, right?" Kanat asks hopefully.
Ekim hates it that she has to crush his hope. She shakes her head:
"No, Kanat. We are not and won't be friends. We won't be anything to each other. I think we both know that Melisa won't allow me to stay in your life. Or at school".
"Well, she doesn't get to control our lives! It's not up for her to decide!"
"But it is! And she does control our lives! She controls you!"
Kanat opens his mouth as if to argue but Ekim doesn't let him:
"Don't you dare deny it! It's just a fact. We're here right now because of this one simple fact".
Ekim sees all the fight leave Kanat. He looks defeated and resigned.
"You're right. But it's not because I still have feelings for her. I... never had any romantic feelings for her. We've known each other our whole lives. And at some point it just became something more for her".
"Kanat. Stop it, please. I don't want to hear it. Don't make it harder than it already is".
And it's so unbelievably hard. Why is everything this way with them? Love shouldn't be like this. Love is supposed to be a beautiful thing that makes you happy. Ekim doesn't feel happy. She feels like someone shot her, then stabbed her, then set her on fire from within. And it gets ten times worse when Ekim looks at Kanat because she sees the same agony reflected on his face.
"What happens now?" Kanat asks.
"Well, you made your choice. And I..."
"And you?" Kanat prompts.
"I just need to survive today. Then get through the night. And, hopefully, tomorrow I'll know what to do".
Kanat nods in understanding.
"Will you, please..." he starts but Ekim cuts him off.
"No. What I decide to do next isn't your concern. Not anymore".
Kanat's jaw flexes and Ekim can see him biting the inside of his cheek. She knows that everything in him wants to fight her on this. He's holding himself back and Ekim appreciates the effort.
"I have to go. I'll see you when I see you", Ekim offers weakly.
Kanat just nods, tears in his eyes. Ekim can feel her own start burning. She drops her gaze and, before she turns to walk away, catches a glimmer of the eternity symbols on their bracelets. Eternity couldn't be more fleeting.

So, episode 6 of Duy Beni was... something. As it often goes there were things that I liked and things that I didn't like. It's inevitable with episodes that last for 2+ hours. But the lack of substantial and meaningful Ekkan scenes really grated on my nerves this week. There's so much between them that needs to be addressed but it never is. And then they threw a confession scene that was undoubtedly beautiful but didn't feel earned. Moreover, they didn't bother to follow it up with another scene or just extend this one. That's why I decided to write a short fix-it one shot to fill in what happened after the kiss and before Kanat got home.
I don't own the show or any of the characters. They belong to the writers, production company and the channel. This is only fanfiction.
_____________________________________________
Love Doesn't Fix Everything
Ekim lets herself have this one short moment. A moment where everything is simple and easy. Where she is just a high-school student, just a girl who's kissing a boy. A girl who believes a boy when he says he's in love with her. Because there's no reason for him to lie about something like this. Because deep down she knows their connection is real. Because she feels she could love him too.
So Ekim squeezes her eyes shut and sighs into Kanat's kiss. It's soft, loving and a little salty. And Ekim doesn't feel any deception in it. One of Kanat's hands, that's not cupping her face with reverence, is still pressing Ekim's hand over his heart. Ekim feels its erratic beating. It's so strong that it almost feels like having Kanat's heart right there - in the palm of her hand. The thought makes Ekim gasp which allows Kanat to deepen their kiss...
The vibrations of one of their phones is what brings Ekim back to reality. She pulls away, severing any point of contact with Kanat, taking two steps back for good measure. Everything about Kanat pulls Ekim in - his handsome face, so open and a little flushed, tear tracks drying on his cheeks, his kiss-swollen lips, his eyes that are absolutely luminous, his warm hands that are still reaching for her. But Ekim cannot allow herself to be pulled in again. Because it's dangerous, it's wrong. And it doesn't fix everything that's happened to them, separately and together, because of each other.
"Ekim..."
"No", she says with conviction shaking her head.
"This doesn't change anything. This doesn't fix anything".
"I know", Kanat says, his face resigned.
He opens his mouth to say something else but is interrupted again by a phone, this time undoubtedly his own. Kanat pulls the phone reluctantly from his pants pocket and looks down at the screen with furrowed brows. Ekim sees the moment his whole body tenses and has no doubt that somebody texted him from home. She remembers vividly the atmosphere in his house. One could cut the tension with a knife at that dinner table. It was no normal family meal, definitely not a normal family.
Ekim cannot fight her natural instinct to ask with worry and empathy:
"Is everything alright?"
Kanat just shakes his head.
"This is a goodbye then".
Kanat looks at her a little puzzled.
"You said I wouldn't see you again".
This earns Ekim one of Kanat's signature smirks.
"Yes, I said that but I never said I wouldn't see you".
"What's that supposed to mean?"
Kanat doesn't answer, instead he closes the distance between them once again and presses his forehead to Ekim's.
"I'll see you, my brave girl".
And then he's gone.
