Phineas And Ferb Behind The Summer Shenanigans Brings Memories And Expectations For The Revival

D23 Expo brought Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy Marsh to talk about the upcoming Phineas Ans Ferb revival as well as what to expect on the upcoming season of the series.

Ducky Momo will return in Season 5

An animatic about the start of the new summer was shown

The Phineas And Ferb panel was retrospective, but when asked about favorite episodes, Swampy said some of the upcoming ones are up there for him

Half of the new writers on the revival revival grew up with the show, the others are returning from the original series.

Other questions about the Phineas And Ferb revival seemed to be answered as jokes. Dan said a character will be killed off

Swampy said a very special episode finds the boys helping dad build a book shelf.

Will there be a Phineas And Ferb crossover with Milo Murphy's Law and Hamster And Gretel? Dan says he thinks there will be at some point.

It is a rare day when the Batfamily has a declared day and night off (usually instituted by Alfred when everyone is injured). They decided to spend the day watching a movie together. Only, Bruce is fed up with the Batkids spending too much time arguing over what movie they should watch and turns it to a random channel that happened to be playing Phineas and Ferb. He states that 'if you act like children, you watch childish things'. Little did Bruce know how much of a pain it would cause him.

First off, Damian has never seen the show, but now that he has, the OWCA agents, especially Agent P, are his favorites. He is already compiling a list of measurements as to give Alfred to make custom fedoras for Titus, Alfred the Cat, Batcow, and any other pet the Wayne's own. Alfred already has the sewing machine out. Damian even commissioned one for Hailey that Dick can't wait to put on her. And on a completely unrelated note, an animal smuggling ring that Damian busted last week happened to have an abused platypus that Damian has now decided would be better fit in the Wayne Manner than taken care of in some wildlife preserve.

Dick remembers trying to recreate do everything Phineas and Ferb's summer as a kid, and is now determined to do it again. While everyone is distracted by the show, he calling is order and favors, determined to make things and contacting anyone who could help. He already has the Teen Titans on his side. He even ordered roller coaster parts that should come tomorrow and who knows what else. While he might not be able to personally build everything, he knows people who could. But for some reason, the parts never arrive at the manor.

Jason is hardcore identifying with Candace. While he is not the oldest, he knows what it is like to have the perfect sibling that never gets caught for their wrongdoing (*cough*cough* Dick). He already had to go through Dick's crazy summer plans before when he was Robin, trying to stop Dick from getting himself killed, and he doesn't want to do it again. Throughout the show, he is trying to bust Dick whenever he leaves to make a suspicious phone call, but Dick always says he is ordering takeout. Jason is pulling his hair out wondering how come no one has questioned the amount of times Dick has left to order food and how none of it has arrived yet. When he gets a chance, he sings E.V.I.L. B.O.Y.Z. directed toward Dick, who sits up front looking completely innocent.

The minute Phineas and Ferb is mentioned, Stephanie quicky fled the room only to roll back in full Duckie Momo apparel. She has on a Duckie Momo onesie, Duckie Momo slippers, and Duckie Momo glasses. In fact, the whole floor has become a Duckie Momo nest, complet with blankets and pillows. She even had a matching onesie for Cass. She also came in knowing all of the songs word for word and had so much fun recreating the "Squirrels in my pants" dance.

When Cass isn't in the Duckie Momo nest with Steph, cuddling a Duckie Momo plushie, she is copying fight scenes from the show. It started off as Steph asking if she could do a move Agent P did, only for her to recreate the whole scene. Now everyone is wanting Cass to copy any of the animals fighting moves, but she declined until she also got a fedora. Damian quickly got her one and declared her an honorary OWCA Agent. Dick tried to join in, but failed. Jason about died laughing about how a platypus could beat Dick in a fight, only for Damian to yell, "Agent P is a worthy opponent, Todd!" with Cass nodding in agreement. Either way, Dick has mainly been pouting ever since.

Tim has been up for about a week before he got dragged into family time. Now, he is just staring numbly at the TV, saying 'mood' whenever Doofenshmirtz talks about his awful childhood backstories (like the one where his parents didn't show up for his birth), giving Bruce an aneurysm each time. Tim is already on the edge, and Bruce just hopes he doesn't gain any motivation to copy Doof's 'take over the Tri-state area' schemes. Bruce especially worries whenever Tim spots a machine and says 'I could build that'.

Unbeknownst to Bruce, Barbara already has the schematics for all of Doof's machines as well as Phineas and Ferb's. What started as a bored interest during summer as a child grew over time, especially with all resources she gained by being Batgirl and Oracle. The information on both are kept in separate secret heavily protected files to keep Tim away from Doof's and Dick away from Phineas and Ferb's. She even has a warning system in place if either of them get close to making one of the machines, either on accident or on purpose, and diverts them away from completing it. The system also includes orders to return any shipments made solely for the purpose of recreating a machine and deleting any records of the order in the first place (hence why Dick's shipment never came). But Babs is content with letting Bruce worry and continues to watch the show with a Duckie Momo blanket spread over her lap (courtesy of Steph).

Since Duke was still working day shift (he wasn't as injured as the others and wanted to flee before there was bloodshed over choosing the movie), he comes back home and happens to conveniently be listening to a playlist of Phineas and Ferb's greatest hits. Upon seeing everyone, Duke takes an earbud out and asks, "Whatcha doin'?" The only answer he got was Steph throwing another Duckie Momo onesie in his face.

An hour later, Jason and Steph are singing BUSTED on top of a table, Jason as a warning to Dick and Steph just for the heck of it. Meanwhile, Cass and Duke acts as Duckie Momo backup dancers with full choreography. Dick wanted to join in as well, but Jason forced him to sit down and watch, hoping the message will sink through, but Dick thinks it is because they don't like his dancing so now he is pouting again. Tim is waving his cellphone light as if this is the most meaningful part of the night, while Damian is about to wrestle the fedora onto Alfred the Cat, as the cat keeps batting it away. All the while, Babs is recording everything.

Bruce is reminded that this is why you should never watch daytime television and turns the channel, despite the cries of anguish. Only to be horrified when Alfred reminds him and the children that show is can be viewed on Disney + and can be streamed at anytime. He runs back to his room as the beginning notes to the intro fill the air and all his children sing along.

Candace is talking to Vanessa and tumblr blogs comes up as a topic and Candace mentions her mutual Dr-Doonkleberry and Vanessa is like "Wait you're online friend with MY DAD" and Candace is like "I didn't know *that* per-say but he's always shitposting about hating platypuses, roleplaying as a garden gnome, and sharing very specific anecdotes about times people piss him off- usually someone he calls 'monobrow' who I'm pretty sure is like, his manager or something. Sometimes he just vagueposts about his husband. It's a pretty funny blog."

Vanessa checks on Candace's tumblr and several of her posts are just reblog chains with Doof where they both rant about their lives and say shit like "you get me." and "life is an abyss.", some of it is bragging about her Duckie Momo collection, the rest are reblogs from aesthetic blogs and selfies with captions she debated about for days, NONE of it is tagged properly.

i also think about phin in college / as an adult pushing up against zoning laws and other beaurocracy making it a lot harder for him to get away with the more insane stuff he wants to build. and it becomes a bully bromance breakup ice chalet situation. my hc is that the future danville in time travel boogaloo is the way it is because of the boys, but they have to worm their way back into city council or something to get permission. and ferb doesn't care that much about the legality of the stuff he makes anyway (his car is NEVER street legal and he's only just barely avoided consequences for it). candace keeps the nedlington nymph essentially her whole working adult life btw, phineas and ferb do upkeep for her and add new features and more ducky momo keychains to the keyring every time. what was i talking about. oh yeah phineas spends his early twenties feeling a little #normal

that girl is so autistic special interests include ducky momo and busting her brothers, the latter to the point where it impacts her day to day life with her friends because she's so fixated on it (we've all been there right.) Also jeremy is so down bad for her even though (possibly because) she's a little weird and off putting and he's SO sweet and he loves her so much so CLEARLY she has the rizz

Garnet (Steven Universe)

She is rizz personified. She managed to rizz Jamie up without even trying and then rejected him in the most autistic way ever. she has so many emotions but looks like ":l" most of the time. she thinks she knows what to do most of the time and gets really nervous when she doesn't "sorry, playing with swords. oh no, they are bleeding. they are dead. don't call again. sorry, I got nervous :/" She also tends to be really direct even when telling jokes ("danger is my middle name") "that's a lie. ....... your middle name is cutiepie", "all comedy is derived from fear." "I am much older than you."

Chiaki Nanami (Super Danganronpa 2)

the first thing that comes to mind is her tendency to speak in uncertain terms more often than other people (like following up a statement that she's mostly -- but not entirely -- certain in with "i think", as an example). It's probably a combination of literalmindedness and wanting to avoid miscommunication while also not wanting to spend too much energy finding the absolute perfect wording, since she's also noted to take time articulating responses to things sometimes, another thing which points to the idea that she takes some effort to avoid miscommunications. she usually speaks in a pretty subdued tone (probably for the same reason), but she also gets quite blunt on occasion, usually when in a stressful or otherwise chaotic situation. the least spoilery example i can think of is when she bluntly tells nagito to be quiet during the first trial, because basically everything he said by that point was causing widespread confusion and psychic damage to the other students. Also she is the Ultimate Gamer. danganronpa's ultimate talents in general tend to easily read as special interests for the characters who possess them and chiaki is no exception. something else that's notable is that the one video game genre she isn't good with is the dating sim genre. last point: facial expressions! this could be chalked up to her being kinda sleepy all the time, but almost all the facial expressions in her sprites are pretty close to a flat neutral, which is notable for a visual element designed to communicate a character's emotion. she does still express emotion with her face, but it's to a noticeably lesser extent than the other characters in the game. also to give some backup to the rizz part as well, the protagonist especially likes her in a way that i assume is intended to be romantic, though i also remember it being somewhat vague, but either way his affection for her leads to the established rules of the plot being broken in a narratively satisfying way in order for him to talk to her during the conclusion of the game, which leads him to have hope that everything will turn out okay in the end.

hear me out..... one of the themes in phineas and ferb is growing up. summer vacation is a holiday only afforded to children, and phineas and ferb want to make the most out of their youth by making every day count. meanwhile, candace is a teenager, she's smack dab in that awkward period between childhood and adulthood, and she's basically the absolute pinnacle of being a teenage girl. she spends so many episodes stressing about her identity and her place in the world (remember the time she took an identity quiz that said she was emo and she immediately changed her appearance and attitude for the whole episode?) she's incredibly insecure about everything. she spends most of her time on-screen stressing about things she can't control. she's seen as hysterical by her mom. every issue she ever faces feels like the end of the world to her. she's obviously exaggerated for humor but at her core, she's every teenage girl. just insecure and not being taken seriously. and she wants so badly to be an adult. in the 2nd dimension movie, she freaks out after hearing that jeremy was looking at colleges and she gets rid of everything childish in her room. she spends all of "nerds of a feather" trying to hide her love of duckie momo. she constantly reminds her parents that she's a young adult and that she's mature enough to be in charge while they're away. candace is rejecting childhood, and in doing so, she's rejecting phineas and ferb. the pinnacles of childhood. they can still have fun playing in the backyard, and she resents them for that. in the backyard beach episode, she gives them the unwanted advice that they have to stop playing in the sandbox if they want to be popular. she talks down to them every chance she gets. their childishness is something they seem to be lording over her, and so she's going to lord her maturity right back over them. she hasn't even realized that she always feels happier when she works with her brothers rather than against them, or that she feels better about herself when she plays along with the boys' schemes and fun

Sibling Bonding

Summary: It takes Phineas almost no time to click with Ferb, even before their parents get married.  Ferb connects with Phineas just as quickly.  Ferb and Candace, on the other hand, both need a little bit longer to get each other.

Phineas decided very quickly that he liked the Fletchers.  Mom’s boyfriend Mr. Fletcher had very specific interests, and though they could be a little boring to listen to sometimes, it made him really happy when someone did, and him being happy made Mom happy.  Plus, Mr. Fletcher was a really good listener and always let Phineas talk about his latest ideas, and Phineas wanted to return the favor as best he could.  Even more than Mr. Fletcher, though, Phineas liked his son.

Ferb was super fun to play with, and though he didn’t like talking much, he’d said he loved listening to Phineas’ ideas and adding on his own in his head.  He even had a knack for bringing them to life, which made it so much more fun for both of them.  Phineas liked playing with him better than almost anyone else in his whole life— almost.  Because while Ferb was amazing, there was one thing that bothered Phineas about him, and that was that he didn’t like Phineas’ bestest closest most wonderful friend in the whole wide world, who also happened to be his sister.  Mom had tried to explain it to him— Ferb didn’t like talking, which Phineas knew, and while Phineas talked a lot, he tended to do it in a way that Ferb didn’t mind so much.

Candace, on the other hand, was loud.

And Phineas knew that, sort of.  It had never bothered him, but he could understand why it would bother Ferb.  But that didn’t solve their problem, being that if Ferb didn’t like Phineas’ bestest closest most wonderful friend in the whole wide world, that was something he wasn’t sure he could get past.

So obviously, he had to explain to Ferb why Candace was so amazing.

“She’s really super determined when she wants something,” Phineas said to Ferb, who was listening intently as they both sat under the tree in Phineas’ backyard.  “And she doesn’t stop until she gets it.  And she makes me laugh really hard, and she still plays with me even though she has older cool friends at her school that like most of the stuff she likes more than me.”

Ferb nodded, seeming like he was thinking it over.  “I don’t not like her,” he said after a second.  “I just wish she wouldn’t talk so loud.”

“But that’s a problem,” Phineas said, leaning forward so Ferb could see he was serious about this.  “Because I really like you.  But if your Dad is going to marry my Mom so you can move in with us so we can play together all the time and have it be super awesome, you’re going to have to deal with Candace being loud sometimes.”

Ferb’s eyebrows furrowed as he thought this over, nodding again in agreement.

“How about this,” Phineas said.  “Sometimes when I need Candace to listen to me I have to let her finish her thought first or she won’t have space for it, and sometimes she does that for me too.  So what if when you know you’re not gonna be able to handle Candace being loud I go let her talk a bunch first and then I can tell you when she’s done so we can ask her to be quiet and she won’t mind so much?”

Ferb thought about this for another moment.  “That sounds like a lot of work for you,” he said after a second.

“Eh, it’s okay,” Phineas said with a shrug.  “I mean, I’d be doing it anyway.  This way I can just let you know when it’s quieter so then we can all have fun!”

Ferb started to smile at that, and then he nodded, seeming satisfied with that solution.  He should be, it was a good one.

So next time Mom told Phineas and Candace that Ferb and Mr. Fletcher were coming over, Phineas ran to Candace’s room before they got there and asked her what episode of Ducky Momo she’d watched most recently, because he’d missed it and needed to catch up.

He didn’t actually like Ducky Momo too much, but Candace liked it, and he liked Candace.  She was his bestest closest most wonderful friend in the whole wide world, after all.  Plus, when Phineas pointed out that she could talk to her friends about Ducky Momo, Candace just got quiet and looked down at her feet and said something about it being embarrassing.  Phineas didn’t quite get that part, because they were her friends, and obviously they’d love her no matter what.  Phineas didn’t like Ducky Momo, after all, but he loved hearing Candace talk about it because it made her really happy.  But Candace insisted, so for now it was their secret.

But Phineas must have misjudged the time it would take Ferb and Mr. Fletcher to get there, because a knock on the door to Candace’s room came as she was in the middle of explaining Ducky Momo’s quest for the Butterberry Bridge, and Phineas turned to see Ferb there.  He didn’t look bothered by Candace’s loud talking and gestures, so he must have had more space for it that day.

Candace, however, instantly stopped talking, and ducked her face down into her shirt.  “Phineas,” she whined.  “Why didn’t you tell me Ferb was coming?”

“I was trying to let you talk before he got here,” Phineas explained, climbing up from his spot sitting on Candace’s bed.  “Because sometimes you can be a little loud, and it can make Ferb uncomfortable.  But I didn’t want to tell you to just stop because you usually just get loud when you’re excited or upset, and it’s not fair to ask you to stop then.”

But Candace just glared at him.  “But I didn’t want to tell him!” she snapped.

Phineas blinked.  “Why not?”

“Because he’s not— he’s not you!” Candace exclaimed, looking away again and shifting uncomfortably.  “He doesn’t get it, and he’s not my brother!”

Phineas tipped his head in confusion, looking back at Ferb, who looked confused right back.  “But he’s gonna be, right?” Phineas asked.

“What are you talking about?” Candace asked, crossing her arms and looking down.

“When Mom and Mr. Fletcher get married,” Phineas said.  “And Mr. Fletcher becomes Dad.  That would make Ferb our brother, right?”

“No!” Candace snapped, though she didn’t really look mad, just upset and uncomfortable.  “Ferb isn’t like you!”

“Well yeah,” Phineas agreed.  “He doesn’t like talking as much.  But he’s still super awesome and fun!  You’d like him too if you got to know him!”

“Phineas,” Candace hissed, glaring at him.  “Only you get to know about Ducky Momo stuff!”

“Why?”

“Because— because—” Candace looked away and hid her head in her hands.  “Because you’re the only one who wouldn’t laugh at me,” she grumbled.

“I like weird things too,” Ferb said, taking a step forward.  “A lot of other people don’t get it.”  He smiled just a little at Phineas, who beamed back.  “Phineas does, though.  And he’s never mean about it.  I like him a lot.”

Ferb turned to look back at Candace, and Candace turned hesitantly to look at him too.

“I wouldn’t laugh at you,” Ferb said.  “I know what that feels like.  I don’t like it, so I wouldn’t do it to you.”

Candace turned to face them both, not saying anything for a minute.  Finally, though, she took a slow step towards Ferb.  “Do you want to watch the episode Phineas missed with him and me?” she asked finally.  She thought for a second.  “We can turn the volume down if you want.”

Ferb smiled and nodded, and Phineas bounced happily in place.

“Yay!” he called.  “Let’s go let’s go!”

Candace finally started to smile, and she followed both of them out of the room and down the stairs towards the living room.  Mom came into the room to set up the TV so they could all watch Ducky Momo, and Candace started to explain to Ferb all of the parts he hadn’t seen and everything he’d need to know before hand.

And as Ferb leaned forward to listen, clearly paying close attention and taking it all as seriously as Candace was, Phineas decided maybe it was time he had two bestest closest most wonderful friends in the whole wide world.

Story - summarized

Nikki wakes up on the train. She and Momo are going to a countryside village to visit Grandma. But she doesn't want to upset her grandma with talk of how stressful school has been lately, so Nikki puts on a brave face when she steps off the rain and finds Grandma.

At the house, Nikki helps Grandma collect ingredients for dinner, like turnips and eggs. When she goes to gather the eggs, she meets a fluffy duck who instantly becomes friends with her. It follows Nikki everywhere, much to Momo's chagrin.

The duck doesn't like Momo either, as it chases him through the rapeseed field. It thinks Momo wants to steal its food. But the two of them tire of fighting and fall asleep together.

The sun sets by the time Nikki returns with the ingredients. It's time for dinner, and all the food smells so good! She can't eat it all, but that doesn't stop Grandma from filling her bowl to the brim.

Grandma then says she's happy Nikki feels better. It turns out that Grandma knew Nikki was anxious and struggling the whole time, but she gave her granddaughter space to recover. She tells Nikki that any time Nikki is stressed or scared or just needs a break, she will always be welcome at Grandma's house.

Connections

-Momo got jealous when Nikki visits a cat café in Wish Guardian. She had just gotten him as a pet, and he thought that by going to a cat café, she was choosing other cats over him.

-They might not have been rice dumplings, but Nikki and Momo stuff themselves with dumplings from the stand in Vol. 1, Ch 4. When the last round of dumplings is served, they share them with Yexiao.

Fun Facts

-Despite the name, rapeseed flowers are good for the land and even for your health. The seeds produce canola oil.

-No matter which country or dimension you're from, grandmas will always make sure you stuff your belly with food.

-I'm not sure which Mandarin nursery rhyme Nikki sings. But it seems like this is a popular one about ducks when I looked up children's songs about ducks.

idk what possessed me to do this digitally but I've spent WAY too long thinking about dwampyverse pokémon teams so here's the first of what will hopefully be a series!

I'll talk about design choices under the cut! :)

Here was my initial design for her outfit that I obviously didn't quite stick to!

I pulled my color palette from her my sweet ride outfit so I probably had a couple additional ones that I ended up using

to be honest I didn't really look at any Pokemon trainers when designing her cause I did it in class lol

but I knew I wanted to give her a ponytail and bow in place of a hat

And I associate pokémon designs with athleisure so I went based off of those vibes :)

pose I lifted from Busted because those are pokémon trainer poses if I've ever seen one.

Ducklett

aka Ducky Momo, need I say more?

Ducklett wasn't her first pokémon but it was the first one she specifically sought out to catch because of her love for the Ducklett themed mascot from Ducky Momo

Eevee > Flareon

Eevee was her starter pokemon! Partially because it's a very common (and cute) Pokemon but also because we also gave Stacy a eevee as a starter so they can become friends based on that!

Flareon as an evolution because we wanted to give Candace a lot of fire types

Fire types because if her fiery determination, quick temper, etc.

Jigglypuff

We wanted to give her a jigglypuff because of her love for singing and acting

this one was actually the last Pokemon we came up with for her team!

Candace definitely does contests alongside Stacy! And I think Jigglypuff is usually the Pokemon she picks for that kin of thing! :)

Chimchar > Infernape

Candace weirdly has a lot of monkey related moments in the show

I.e. Living with Monkeys, Swiss Family Phineas marrying a monkey, etc.

And what better to give her than a fire type monkey pokémon!!

Ponyta > Rapidash

I wanted to give her this one because a) fire type and b) her love for horseback riding!!

and all the other horse/unicorn references we get with her in the show!

Also because we gave Ferb a Galarain ponyta/rapidash so that's a parallel between them :)

Plus I really want to draw her riding on a Rapidash because thats sooooo cool

Girafarig > Farigiraf

I feel like the long neck thing should be obvious as to why we gave her this one

plus I love Farigiraf so much I think its such a good evolution :)

#7: First Impressions

Longtime followers of this blog will remember that this one was voted the best episode of the entire show. I think we can agree to disagree on this one, since I totally understand.

While I'm not normally too big a fan of backstory episodes, this one really turned the cuteness up to 11. Plus it was vintage Milo Murphy's Law, with the focus on Milo and Melissa with and minimal Doof Interference, which is always a win.

I liked how this episode sort of paralleled Going the Extra Milo (in that it was about Milo taking another kid to school in his own unique way), but made it about Melissa instead of Zack. I guess that's also kind of a two-edged sword though, because it showed that to be best friends with Milo, you have to go through a life threatening experience with him always protecting you. And I have to feel for Bradley too. He got totally shafted, so it's understandable why he would hold a grudge against Milo. (Although he did end up stealing the spotlight back with PnF's revival and MML's... well...)

Anyway. I'm getting off topic. The younger versions of Cavendish and Dakota were fun too. I gotta wonder though, how did Dakota know that the burrito he was about to eat was so good, it only exists at that particular time and place? Unless, of course, he was just saying that to sweet talk Rita into making it happen. And knowingly risking his own life for an amazing burrito? AND admitting that it was risky, but pointing out how it was worth it? That just fits Dakota's character too well.

A few things here:

Zack is pushing Melissa off the platform while Milo is just hiding out, employing the "wait for everybody else to take each other out before joining the fight" strategy. I don't know why, but that's hilarious to me.

M.Square is Agent P. Makes sense to me, since Milo was the only one of the trio to work directly with him during the episode.

MC.Master is a pistachion. This is actually a reference to an idea from writer Joshua Pruett, where Melissa would have remained a pistachion after The PnF Effect. He said this would "show that not all 'chions are evil" and "advance her relationship with Zack in a sweet way." Eventually this was changed to just her arm, and eventually THAT was changed to just Bradley's arm. (I'm also pretty sure this is why that one giant pistachion went rogue and started a soup kitchen.)

And Zack is the most interesting IMO. He's a llama (or an alpaca, I'm not sure). I mean, he wasn't at The Llama Incident, but he was at the Llama Relief Fund charity race and the Forget the Llamas, Save the Alpacas benefit concert. But Melissa and Milo were both at both of those events too, so... not sure why that would be Zack's avatar.

But his username. Obviously this is after he goes through his character growth. It's exactly the same as when Candace and Stacy were playing that Ducky Momo game. Zack is extremely comfortable with this and I love it.
