More than 1 million spare parts of the F-35 were lost by the Pentagon and Lockheed
The Pentagon does not encode responsibility for the F-35 parts that disappear.
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 06/08/2023 - 12:23m Military
The U.S. Government Accounting Office (GAO) announced that the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) reported losses of millions of dollars due to lack of responsibility for the parts of the F-35 Lightning II fighter program.
The department has certain F-35 spare parts that are managed by contractors, but the Pentagon is not responsible for the parts. This is partly because several DoD offices and contractors did not agree whether the spare parts are owned by the government.
The lack of agreement affects how the DoD processes the lost parts. It makes a knot in the stomach to imagine the amount lost when we consider that the government expects to spend $1.7 trillion during the life of the F-35 aircraft.
Of about one million pieces lost in the amount of $85 million, the DoD reviewed the circumstances around 2% of the losses identified since 2018. Lockheed Martin said that the count of spare parts listed as lost in the report covers the last two decades of the program.
Of these 1 million spare parts lost in the last five years, Lockheed Martin presented about 60,000 pieces worth about $19 million to the JSF Joint Office (JPO) to be judged, the GAO said. The JPO has completed the award of less than 20,000 missing spare parts.
The lost parts that were not reported to the JPO include 35 actuator doors worth more than $3.2 million and 14 batteries worth more than $2.1 million, which were lost in the last three months of 2019, the report said.
The GAO says that there is no responsible property registration system that allows the DoD to monitor changes in property records. Currently, contractors have this information. The government cannot manage its own interests in this matter.
Of the spare parts - which include engines; tires; landing gear; and other parts such as nuts, bolts and fasteners - which are not accounted for under contract and are not property provided by the government, the contractor does not insert these parts into the system for the DoD to track losses and disposal.
The F-35 international program, which includes the United States and other nations such as the United Kingdom, Norway, Italy, Canada, Israel, Japan and South Korea, has what the GAO called the "single" system to manage its spare parts. All program participants around the world have access to a global pool of spare parts.
But while the DoD has the spare parts on which all nations that fly F-35 depend, Lockheed Martin, which builds and repairs most of the aerial structure of the F-35, and Pratt & Whitney, which handles the engines of the F-35, manages the global pool. These parts are stored in more than 50 domestic and international facilities run by contractors other than Lockheed and Pratt
Part of the problem with the tracking of parts is in the Pentagon's decision, a decade ago, to change the course on who owns them, said the GAO. Originally, the U.S. military did not intend to own these parts, the GAO said, but in 2012 the F-35 program issued a memo that said they belonged to the U.S. government until they were installed in a fighter.
The GAO makes recommendations: the department must take steps to ensure that all spare parts in the global spare parts pool are responsible for a contract. It should also develop a process for contractors to report losses and dispose of excess, obsolete or unusable spare parts.
Lockheed Martin said it is working with the F-35 Joint Program Office and the Defense Contract Management Agency to ensure that they have the necessary documentation to support the disposal of components that the team deemed to be "excessive, obsolete or unusable".
The lack of accountability of the parties demonstrates a lack of clarity in the government's industrial strategy.
Although the Biden administration focuses on strengthening the U.S. defense industrial base - particularly for emerging technologies such as hypersonic - the loss of parts undermines the government's effort to create advanced capabilities.
It is not enough to pump injections of money arbitrarily in several emerging areas that can increase military capacity.
A responsible system where the DoD can manage its own interests is a priority. This ensures that the department is not totally at the mercy of private sector companies, profiting from everything it has from the perception of exercising advanced capacity.

WAR
Beneath a well polished business, built on ethics of security and safety of the nation, is a hidden truth. A Warden’s business has never been anything more than an opportunistic tool of power. A weapon, forged in their family name, and loaded with ammunition in the benefit of War. Such is the same with ARCHANGEL. A picture of brilliance, that masks a hidden agenda.
The aim is simple, the more cameras they had access to, the more phones with apps installed and homes with devices fitted, the more eyes War had on a world that they lust to declare their own. And in terms of criminality, with access to thousands of cameras stretching across the city, in public areas, offices, and hidden alleyways, comes to will to control a narrative of London that they seek to create. There is a control room located within ARCHANGEL’s offices, one that is out of bounds from staff and only known by specified members of War. Those members are permitted access, where inside they can watch, they can edit, and delete incriminating evidence that would have usually meant trouble for a gang whose wrongdoings only seem to pile higher and higher as time passes by.
More importantly, they hold the opportunity to catch of film, footage that could be used against the other gangs. With the technology of facial recognition, software installed into an ARCHANGEL associated device now has the ability to keep track of specified individuals. Like a GPS system, only with a lense rather than a satellite.
So, if you want to keep a secret, then you will have to hide it. Even from yourself.

9 Ways To Prevent Burglary, According To Experts (Yes, Burglars!)
Across the United Kingdom, around 1.3 million cases of burglaries are reported every year -- that’s approximately 3,600 cases daily! If you don’t want to get your valuables stolen and get stressed out that come with repairing broken doors or windows, it’s better to be proactive. One of the things you can do is equipping your home with a credible CCTV Surrey system or with burglar alarms Surrey. Here are nine ways to prevent burglary, according to those who’ve committed this act themselves. Invest in an alarm system and make it visible. Burglar alarms sound off a, well, an alarming sound that can alert you and your neighbours and even local police officers around. Getting a reliable burglar alarm system and placing it in a visible spot is one of the most effective ways of deterring burglars. Strategically locate CCTV cameras. Surveillance devices like a CCTV Surrey also add another layer of protection to your home. Burglars themselves consider this as the biggest factor that prevents them from targeting a certain home. Look into home automation options. If your budget permits, why not consider automating your home? This technology allows you to control your appliances and entry points remotely. It can even be interconnected with your surveillance camera system for more convenient monitoring. Stylishly put bars in your windows. Around 29% of successful burglaries involve the use of windows. So it only makes sense to heighten your security in these components of your home. Look for stylish ways to put bars in your windows so that your security-increasing efforts won’t compromise your home’s aesthetics. Know that your outdoor lighting system matters. Apart from visible burglar alarms Surrey, did you know that an outdoor lighting system can also help protect your home against burglars? Burglars tend to skip homes whose outdoor lights are periodically tuned on. Check out devices that act as fake TVs. These deterrent devices help leave the impression that someone is at home watching TV. Burglars claim that they won’t risk breaking into a property with someone in. Make your fences burglar-proof. Invest in fences lined with spikes or thorny bushes to make it more difficult for burglars to access your property. If you have extra budget, you can also opt for an electric security fence and put up a visible signage indicating the danger it can cause. Get yourself a barking dog. Burglars hate getting attention. If you have a dog that can bark whenever a suspicious person attempts to enter your home, you’d have a lower chance of getting robbed and have your valuables stolen. Keep your valuables in a safe. Speaking of your valuables, one way of keeping them protected against thieves is by storing them in a safe — not just in a cupboard or in some obvious areas that burglars can easily find. StormFS is an established company that specialises in domestic intruder alarm installation and servicing. They have a comprehensive line of CCTV Surrey and burglar alarms Surrey, all built and maintained according to European and British regulations. Written by Guest Contributor on The Prepper Journal.
Editors Note: Another guest contribution from Dakota Murphey on site security, something she has written about before in The Prepper Journal. Always interesting to see what others think about their security and options, Dakota resides in the United Kingdom and she supplied the feature picture so I had to find out if you can use deadly force on intruders in England. According to Quora – “If someone trespasses on my property in the UK, do I have the right to shoot the intruder? There are very few jurisdictions on the planet where one can shoot somebody who is a trespasser. … However, in the UK, from what I understand, a person has to first be in fear of their life, and then can defend themselves.” So, not that different across the pond other than the availability of weapons.
If you have a vacant property or an area of land that is unoccupied then you need to be aware of the potential challenges and issues of intruders at your site. This could take the form of squatters looking for somewhere to stay or travelers pitching up on your land. Either of these scenarios can be very frustrating, and it can be difficult and time-consuming to get them evicted.
In any case it is best to prevent intruders from being able to use your property. There are many ways that you can do these – here are some of the most effective methods to protect your property against squatters and travelers.
Protect Entry Points
If you have an empty property this can be an extremely appealing target for squatters and trespassers, especially if getting in is as simple as walking through the door. It is essential that you should do everything you can to protect all of the obvious entry points to the property. You can do this by putting security doors or screens.
If squatters encounter any kind of physical barrier, they are likely to move on and try a different property. So, this first line of security can be hugely effective in preventing the majority of possible intrusions.
…That includes Windows
Of course, it is important to also note that if you are going to put physical barriers in place of doors, you need to do the same with your windows too. If you have windows that can easily be broken, then this will be a popular entry point for intruders. Any window that is reachable from floor level is a potential weak point in your defenses.
There are specific security barriers that are designed to cover low-level windows and make it impossible for potential squatters and trespassers to gain entry into the property. Have these installed at the same time as your door protection for full coverage.
Stop Vehicle Access
Of course, it’s not just empty properties that can attract potential intruders. If you have a large area of land that is currently not being used or is unoccupied for a long period of time, it could be targeted by traveler communities. Travelers often base themselves on used land and once they have established themselves it can be time consuming and challenging to have them evicted.
So, if you have an area of land that could potentially be used by travelers you need to stop vehicles from being able to access the area. This can be achieved with the positioning of concrete barriers as they can make it impossible to get onto the land. This will force the travelers to move on and try elsewhere.
Security Patrols
On some property or vacant land, it is not possible to put up physical barriers – if this is the case for you, it may be necessary to look into other options for security. One of the most effective ways to deter trespassers and intruders is to have a professional security patrol carried out at regular intervals.
These patrols not only work as a deterrent but can also help to uncover intruders as soon as possible. This can make it much easier for you to deal with the consequences of the intrusion.
CCTV
It’s a great idea to have CCTV set up around your property. Once again, CCTV is so effective not only because it can alert you to the presence of intruders but also simply as a deterrent. If intruders are made aware that they are on camera, this can make them move on and choose an easier target.
It is important, then, not only to put CCTV in place, but also to clearly marked to make it easy for potential intruders to see.
Put Alarm Systems in Place
It can be also be very helpful to have an alarm system in place. This is another example of a form of security that is multifaceted – alerting you to the presence of intruders but also convincing intruders to leave. Alarm systems can be installed relatively cheaply, but they can save you an enormous amount of money in the potential costs of damages or legal services in getting intruders evicted.

Bi Folding Doors
Bifold doors are doors that glide open and consist of a succession of concertina-like panels that fold against the wall. Although standard, single-leaf doors are typical in most living spaces, they can be highly inconvenient when optimizing the space in your home. This is why bi-fold doors are currently making waves in the United Kingdom. Bifold doors are available in numerous materials, including wood, PVC, and aluminum. Timber bifold doors are incredibly aesthetically pleasing, whereas aluminum bifold doors are a popular option for the modern household. A range of color variations is also available. Typically, bi-fold doors are glazed with wide glass panels that let in an abundance of light. Bi-folding doors maximize space by allowing the door to glide open while its panels fold up and stack against the wall. A bifold door pulls open from the center and provides complete visibility and access to what's behind it in one swift move. It is a more appealing, durable, and distinctive solution. Bifold doors can be arranged on the interior or exterior of a home, as an entryway to a conservatory or garden, or as a means of dividing a larger room without diminishing its sense of space. Flexibility-wise, there is just no superior option.
Bifold doors can be built into a home's interior or exterior, as a doorway to a sunroom or garden, or as a way to divide a larger room without compromising the sense of space. There isn't a choice that is better in terms of adaptability. Internal bifold doors are typical and suitable for a variety of uses. They are typically used to cover smaller areas. External bifold doors are used to link the interior to the exterior and are often seen at the back of a house, leading to a garden or the backyard. Bear in mind that all outside bifold doors must be weather-resistant. A set of bi-folding doors will increase the amount of natural light in an area in either situation.
As interior and exterior bifold doors are available in a variety of materials, styles, textures, colors, finishes, and shapes, their adaptability is also advantageous. Outside bifold doors will feature a locking system that is distributed across multiple points of the sliding track, as opposed to a single locking point. However, certain advantages only apply to the exterior or interior doors. Additionally, they are surprisingly easy to clean, repair, and install on your own. Bifold doors, whether internal or external, offer a high degree of adaptability and can be adapted to almost any need. Ideal for linking living rooms, kitchens, and dining spaces. If you choose a more personalized configuration, they can make your property stand out in a unique way.
We hope we have provided you with all the information you need regarding bi-fold doors and why you should consider hiring us to install them both inside and outside your home. Bi-fold doors cannot be fully appreciated for their beauty and flexibility until they are installed. Visit us to learn more about the benefits of installing bifold doors in your home.

Ductile iron pip is pipe made of ductile cast iron commonly used for potable water transmission and distribution. This type of pipe is a direct development of earlier cast iron pipe, which it has superseded. The ductile iron used to manufacture the pipe is characterized by the spheroidal or nodular nature of the graphite within the iron. Typically, the pipe is manufactured using centrifugal casting in metal or resin lined moulds. Protective internal linings and external coatings are often applied to ductile iron pipes to inhibit corrosion: the standard internal lining is cement mortar and standard external coatings include bonded zinc asphalt or water-based paint. In highly corrosive environments loose polyethylene sleeving (LPS) to encase the pipe may also be used. Life expectancy of unprotected ductile iron pipes depends on the corrosiveness of soil present and tends to be shorter where soil is highly corrosive. However, a lifespan in excess of 100 years has been estimated for ductile iron pipelines installed using "evolved laying practices", including use of properly installed LPS (polyethylene encasement). Studies of ductile iron pipe's environmental impact have differing findings regarding emissions and energy consumed. Ductile iron pipe manufactured in the United States has been certified as a sustainable product by the Institute for Market Transformation to Sustainability.
Couplings and Flanged Adaptors are used to connect networks composed of different materials or specially designed for one material. They come in anchoring or non-anchoring versions, while the self-anchoring (locking) products do not necessitate concrete anchor blocks.
A valve is a device or natural object that regulates, directs or controls the flow of a fluid (gases, liquids, fluidized solids, or slurries) by opening, closing, or partially obstructing various passageways. Valves are technically fittings, but are usually discussed as a separate category. In an open valve, fluid flows in a direction from higher pressure to lower pressure. The word is derived from the Latin valva, the moving part of a door, in turn from volvere, to turn, roll. The simplest, and very ancient, valve is simply a freely hinged flap which swings down to obstruct fluid (gas or liquid) flow in one direction, but is pushed up by the flow itself when the flow is moving in the opposite direction. This is called a check valve, as it prevents or "checks" the flow in one direction. Modern control valves may regulate pressure or flow downstream and operate on sophisticated automation systems. Valves have many uses, including controlling water for irrigation, industrial uses for controlling processes, residential uses such as on/off and pressure control to dish and clothes washers and taps in the home. Even aerosol spray cans have a tiny valve built in. Valves are also used in the military and transport sectors. In HVAC ductwork and other near-atmospheric air flows, valves are instead called dampers. In compressed air systems, however, valves are used with the most common type being ball valves.
A fire hydrant or firecock (archaic) is a connection point by which firefighters can tap into a water supply. It is a component of active fire protection. Underground fire hydrants have been used in Europe and Asia since at least the 18th century. Above-ground pillar-type hydrants are a 19th-century invention.
The repair clamp is a fastening device used to hold or secure objects tightly together to prevent movement or separation through the application of inward pressure. In the United Kingdom the term cramp is often used instead when the tool is for temporary use for positioning components during construction and woodworking; thus a G cramp or a sash cramp but a wheel clamp or a surgical clamp.
A manhole cover or maintenance hole cover is a removable plate forming the lid over the opening of a manhole, an opening large enough for a person to pass through that is used as an access point for an underground vault or pipe. It is designed to prevent anyone or anything from falling in, and to keep out unauthorized persons and material. Manhole covers date back at least to the era of ancient Rome, which had sewer grates made from stone.
A flange is a protruded ridge, lip or rim, either external or internal, that serves to increase strength (as the flange of an iron beam such as an I-beam or a T-beam); for easy attachment/transfer of contact force with another object (as the flange on the end of a pipe, steam cylinder, etc., or on the lens mount of a camera); or for stabilizing and guiding the movements of a machine or its parts (as the inside flange of a rail car or tram wheel, which keep the wheels from running off the rails). The term "flange" is also used for a kind of tool used to form flanges.
Manhole steps shall be polypropylene plastic coated on a No. 4 deformed rebar conforming to ASTM C478, Polypropylene shall conform to ASTM D4101. It shall be constructed of steel covered with polypropylene and be made from a steel reinforcing rod encapsulated in a copolymer polypropylene resin.
Ductile Iron Pipe Fittings or "DIPF" means any iron casting produced in conformity with the C153/A21 or C110/A21 standards promulgated by the American Water Works Association, including all revisions and amendments to those standards and any successor standards incorporating the C153/A21 or C110/A21 standards by reference.
Gully gratings, often called gully grids, sit atop of yard or road gullies to prevent large debris (as well as animals and people) from entering the drainage system - their purpose is to collect rainwater from the sides of estate roads and highways to prevent localised flooding.

Building information about spiral staircases that you should be aware of before purchasing the same
Staircases are quickly becoming an important part of a property's interior design, frequently serving as a focal point in luxury homes, public settings, and office buildings. When contemplating staircase design ideas for your home or office, it is usually a good idea to be aware of the regulatory consequences of the staircase design you intend to utilise, especially if they are going to be used in a public setting.
In the United Kingdom, there are various classifications and primary building standards that generally apply to spiral staircases, regardless of whether you are installing a steel spiral staircase or one manufactured from wood or glass panels.
Category A
Assume you want to install a steel spiral staircase in your home where you and your loved ones live. This type of helical or spiral staircase is designed for use by a small number of individuals who are familiar with how a spiral staircase functions. An access stair to an office that is not open to the public, an internal stair in a residence servicing one room that is not a living room or a kitchen, or spiral fire escape steps for a limited number of persons is perfect examples.
Category B
This stair, also known as private stairs, can serve as the primary access to the upper floor of a private residential home. The minimum clear tread width should be 800mm — the normal minimum diameter is 1800mm, and in Scotland, it is 900mm. A riser height of 170-220mm is permissible. According to Approved Document K, if a staircase design has consecutive tapered treads, they must all have a uniform going angle (the horizontal distance between the edge of one tread and the next).
Category C
This category includes small business staircases that can accommodate no more than 50 individuals and are intended to be used by those who are familiar with the staircase, regardless of whether it is a steel spiral staircase, glass, or wood spiral staircase. The minimum clear tread width is 800mm, with a common minimum diameter of 2000mm. A riser height of 170-220mm is permissible.
Category D
This applies to semi-public stairs used by more than 50 individuals, some of whom may not be familiar with the stair. The minimum clear tread width is 900mm, with a common minimum diameter of 2300mm. A riser height of 150-190mm is permissible. Also note that a centre column handrail is required for this type of stair, regardless of whether it is a steel spiral staircase or one made of wood or glass panels.
Category E
This category typically pertains to large business or public steps used by a large number of persons in a commercial or public setting. The minimum clear tread width is 1000mm, with a common minimum diameter of 2500mm. A riser height of 150-190mm is permissible and the same as in Category D, it requires a centre column handrail.
Landing requirements for spiral stairs
Each flight of stairs must have a landing at the top. A landing could be part of the staircase structure or the house's top level. Permanent impediments should be avoided in the area. If you have cupboard doors that open onto the landing, it is not a problem, but note that cupboard doors must normally be closed and should provide at least 400mm of space between the edge of the landing and the doors when opened. The landing must be perfectly level and as long and as wide as the flight's smallest width.
Fortunately, top installers are familiar with UK regulations when it comes to steel, glass, and wood spiral stairs and so you can purchase the staircase of your choice with peace of mind.

Location: Hertfordshire, England, UK
Troy Wharf
The purpose built high quality Troy Wharf office building for the Marble and Granite Centre is located on an industrial site set within the green belt near Rickmansworth. The four storey building is partially submerged into the landscape on three sides within a disused concrete retaining wall. The new building projects above the ground disguising itself to the lake with a south facing mono pitch green roof, creating a fully structural glazed facade overlooking the site. The building utlises many sustainable features including a ground source heat pump for heating and cooling and ventilation heat recovery system throughout.
What was the brief? The brief for the building was to provide sustainable high quality office accommodation for the Marble and Granite Centre a leading importer and distributor of natural stones in the UK.
What are the sustainability features? The building incorporates the following sustainable features: 1. The building is heated and cooled via a geothermal heating system. Three 100 meter bore holes in front of the building provide warm water to a heat pump which in turn supply a fully integrated underfloor heating system and ceiling mounted fan coils. 2. Ventilation to the building is managed by an air supply and extract fan with heat exchanger to minimise heat loss. 3. The building incorporates a south facing sedum green roof, which helps to retain surface rain water and increases biodiversity on site. 4. The building reuses an existing insitu concrete retaining wall there by maintaining the embodied carbon on site and minimising the structure for the new building.
What building methods were used? Building methods included: – 1. The building is supported on a new concrete raft foundation supporting a steel structural frame. 2. The new composite floor slabs providing lateral stability to the existing walls. A drained cavity tanking system was designed to deal with the high water table and large area of retaining walls. 3. Internally the unobstructed office areas on each floor are maximised by the positioning of the lift, stair and services at the rear of the plan. The basement provides storage and changing areas along with plant and utility space. 4. The use of natural stone to the floor, stair and work surfaces complements the internal glazed partitions maintaining a light and airy feel to the interiors.
How is the project unique? The project is unique in the following areas: – 1. The four storey building is partially submerged into the landscape on three sides within a disused concrete retaining wall. 2. The new building projects above the ground disguising itself to the lake with a south facing mono pitch green roof, creating a fully structural glazed façade overlooking the site. 3. The building is located within a protected Green Belt area therefore the design had to demonstrate no adverse impact on this sensitive environment. 4. The integration of energy saving features ensured the building is an exemplar in sustainable design.
What were the key challenges? 1. Designing an office building within the Green Belt, where new developments are usually restricted. 2. Reusing the existing concrete retaining walls which related to a previous industrial use. 3. Designing a new office building without detracting from the marble and granite slabs stored and displayed on site.
What were the solutions? The design solutions to the key challenges are: – 1. Locating the majority of the building underground, and providing a mono-pitch green roof that disguises the structure when viewed from the lake. 2. The existing insitu concrete walls were laser scanned to establish its exact profile allowing new steel frame to be tailors to fit the existing opening. A darrained cavity waterproof system was installed to allow for an moisture ingress through the existing structure. 3. Conceiving a minimal façade appearance of a single plane of frameless glass that helps mirror the surrounding countryside whilst subtly referencing the monolithic nature of the stone slabs.
Who are the clients and what’s interesting about them? The client on this project is The Marble and Granite Centre. The company is long established and one of the leading supply of natural high quality stone products in the United Kingdom.
