The Dana Terrace Vs Vivienne Medrano, The Great Debate of Two Female Creators
Tumblr media
Hello Starry Knights, This is the lovely Kyoko Cane, The Brown Sugah Queen, & cosplayer who performs and visits numerous cons throughout, while making blogs/vlogs on animated media & entertainment.
as you know or are new to this page, I am an artist who also dedicated my fashion in drag, on all my platforms along my artwork & discussions (be it anime or Western) that can affect real-life even fandoms, with a variety of videos.
the title of the post is about The two proclaimed talked about animators, Dana Terrace & Vivienne Medrano, I'll be critiquing how these two women of animation tackle the industry. This will have strong opinions from recent interview videos I've watched.
(I'll be calling Vivienne VIVI FOR SHORT & letting you know, if I were to watch ones in the future affecting my post come on the comments to ask freely, AND YES ALL PROJECTS AND TOPICS ARE NOT WITHOUT THEIR CRITIQUES, FLAWS IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE IT, CHECK OUT THE DAYSTAR VOYAGE, DON'T HATE, APPRECIATE! )
OK LETS GET STARTED In this 3-part segment
Tumblr media
1. The Different Artstyles That Made Us Love These Shows.
Vivis work (Helluva Boss & Hazbin Hotel)
Tumblr media
Now We all know as fans & lovers of animation when we hear a series that's greenlit after viewing on a television screen, in a magazine, or sponsored in commercials, right? As for these two,
The first time I heard of VIVI's work was on a YouTube ad commercial in line & premiered for the pilot, I was fully captivated by its groundbreaking story, from hazbin hotel to the comedy in helluva boss, along with its ghoulish Beetlejuice-inspired art style.
(which I'm a sucker for the niche, indie projects & gothic horror.)
observing her sketchbook on YouTube, I was drawn in by the captivated humanoid shapes she sketches, along with her fluid & flowing style.
the worldbuilding version of heaven & hell drew me in, after watching hazbin hotel. The pilot had a lot to offer from its dreary horrific turns/obstacles from its character debut, story & distorted beauty that there was a lot to tune Into along my first episode of Helluva Boss,
Now we are gonna get down to lore storytelling and character growth.
(and im fully aware of how the fandom treats the rest of the main & supporting cast not letting them flesh out including the females, btw)
Vivi has so much to offer, after watching the latest episode of Helluva Boss and finishing Hazbin Hotel, I see she has the potential to make a good show on drama & sell it, however with her controversy coming through I feel she needs to learn on how to perceive herself online, so makes it hard for me not to hate her series, be it art and her work.
(its truly good when it wants to be as for the writing ima get to that later. with the stolitz & lumity discourse on part 2)
The owl House by Dana terrace
Tumblr media
Now you all know by now, I am a full-on Owl House fan regardless of its show ending early, and my many critics on Dana Terrace drew me in with her macabre art and full-on passionate skeletal pieces after looking at her socials and sketchbook online, as a debut showrunner who made her great stance on lgbt representation she has cemented herself as an acclaimed cartoon creator.
However, she does have her flaws ever since rewatching the series, and a lot to learn about the business, after rewatching The Show and yes I have notes written to prove them,
To add I felt if alex Hirsch wasn't on the project, everyone wouldn't watch that show since yall want it to be the next GRAVITY FALLS,
I love the fandoms that discuss the errors of these creators cause it give more insight on how to portray yourselves on in the real world, cause lemme tell you, it was all watered down I'm get to that in a minute
one problem i have with particularly since she's a good artist & creator is her depending on certain tropes to carry out her cast, cause some may be harmful & the writing be generic.
She needs work on being a better showrunner cause those skills need Cleaning up including writing certain characters on who gets the spotlight.
NEXT SEGMENT
2. The Good, Great, Bad & Ugly in Fandom Discourse,
Vivis Work (Wow Yall can be Wow)
Tumblr media
Vivienne Has made her mark in the YouTube market ever since making her pilot debut on Kesha video & hazbin hotel pilot,
I'm so glad for her contributions towards the indie market making her way to showing great representation in the general audience for an adult show, yes an adult show and that's not without its controversy,
with her grand debate, I feel everyone took this woman's artwork turning it into something ugly, which is so uncool.
and I for one will not stand for the hate trains of now popular shows flip-flopping and then float back to it cause your series is acclaimed now, let's be real she deserves her crowns and laurels Just keeping it real, regardless cause its a fire show
The fandom has shown their love of the show cause it knocked down so many doors in many ways, but let's be real the audience is now geared toward children cause we all know, this generation can be doing some crazy things, cause they all need to tone down the language,
which I feel viv needs to work on the jokes I get, it's an adult show which is concerning and it's a Gen Z world where people have access to computers 247, which contributes to all the nasty discourse and crass behavior not to mention,
viv needs to calm down her fans when it comes down to her work and the way stoliz is perceived.l can be questionable, not to mention how the females are written which I do know the key word for this below.
cause i rarely do find the females are compelling, but yet to fleshed out like the rest of the male characters so misogynist comes into mind in this show and how it sells
there some moments it only aims to the infamous ship Stolitz (and doesn't let other characters breathe (this is a problem with the owl house which ill get to right now cause the pacing is wow smh)
(next to the owl house which I'll get to cause OMG)
Tumblr media
THE OWL HOUSE FANDOM (GRRRR) lemme calm down
If you haven't seen my posts, including the bashing and discourse there's also a list I swear lemme quote
in the words of Biggie Small - if you don't know now ya know.
The owl house fandom i was on ride or die for the lumity however we all know how that ship got it start and built up cause they expected it to be this thing to say F you to Disney which is good cause disney had it coming howver, after the show ended
Yall have become the most foulest ugliest & disrespectful fandom ever since the Steven Universe, Voltron and miraculous incidents,
its sad to see how these two franchises fell into the worse cases, the two creators may come across not caring of there fandom acts cause there's a saying
The captain always goes down with his ship MEANING
A captain should not have to sacrifice their life simply because the vessel they are in control of is in distress
There’s two fandoms such as Steven universe & voltron fell from grace into toxicity down below that are prime examples
youtube
The Owl House fandom has got to be some of the most entitled, uppity if not (racist) fans!
yall clearly have not listened to other fans or can't take criticism, yes the show did make very feminist undertones and the male characters didn't shine at all in their titular episodes or moments, which doesn't help at all.
Since Dana drew inspiration from Powerpuff Girls
(which comes on and the writers being all female, is gonna have damaging effects)
Cause stifled the male characters in a way where there not as prominent or impactful,
So this word MISANDRY comes to mind
The fandom has gone down to the point of no return, I mean,
one fan from a webcam interview WANTED DANA's ADDRESS EWWW!
its not that the Disney drama was too blame for the project, (to an extent) which I'm proud for the fandom for banding together on animation, but need to take off the lgbt glasses cause boy the show's writing was pushed in favor of that.
CONGRATS You did at the cause of Harassment and bad behavior in fandoms,
NEXT TOPIC
3. Make The Business Makes Sense & epilogue
THE OWL HOUSE
Tumblr media
Dana Terrace has the makings of doing good shows however when it comes down to an audience to kid she has some major damage control on how the fandom will come across,
i mean have we not learned from the Lilith and Camilla toxic issues, you can tell the show likes to demonize the adults which is unacceptable, and can damage storytelling and characters.
Tumblr media
the truth i feel there needs to be proper staff on how to write POC, and ethnic and cultural representation In the show, Amphibia, Molly mcgee, Haileys on it and other break-out shows did it better,
hell yo had Amphibia doing those dishes in Frogworld, can you imagine the boiling isles taking on Hispanic cuisine.
Which i felt could've hit a mark on luz home life and culture if written & fleshed out,
Like the staff didn't know how to write those topics, they've coulda gone so far with it but unfortunately fail flat not to mention the fashion. UGH
sigh.
ViVI WORKS ( i try not to make this quick but e can discuss more on comments be NICE)
Tumblr media
Vivienne Medrano has good fashion and business sense
its important to have that cause having a Cloud Nine franchise coming from nothing can do wonders for how you are perceived as an artist,
The discourse has come due to her take on the controversy on platforms talking on her many harsh topics
(in my opinions she too needs to work on controlling scenarios & damage control that can affect her
So tried but yeah
vivi is a dominant artist who takes her business seriously so I am glad to have her flourish in Spindlehorse,
butt just i wish i cant help but fall outta love with her work, knowing of the problems in today's animation comes certain things you can say even snowflakes can break under if heard by there favorite creators.
lets be honest these two can learn from each other. and vivi does sure know angles and promoting
youtube
very glad to get this written so I put some thought into this
i wish nothing for the best for these awesome artists and creators thank you all for coming so far and have a wonderful voyage thanks.

since i have nine asks (and counting) about this situation/drama, i'm just gonna make one big ass post about it instead of addressing everything individually.
first and foremost, just to put it out there as loudly as possible: if you don't agree with me, that is totally, 1000% fine. i have never once claimed my opinion is the law of the land. HOWEVER, i will not argue with you on why i'm right or you're right or who's wrong when it comes to this whole thing. i'll be totally honest with yall, i am deeply tired of dealing with drama when it comes to snc. which is why i ask kindly that once i make this post, i stop receiving asks about this situation. this, tied with the cody and satori "controversy' has made it very hard to be in this fandom bc all the talk has been deeply annoying to deal with.
this shouldn't come as a shock to anyone, but i don't like seeing negative things about snc. i know, crazy right? that would include a lot of the shit that has been going on for weeks now ever since the conjuring. so, i'm tired. and i ask that yall just don't push me to talk more about this than i want to.
and again, if you don't agree with me, that's great. you're very much in your right to feel however you want. but this topic, to me, is not up for discussion. if you want to talk about it, go to reddit or twitter or anywhere else. i just can't be bothered to talk about this at length more than this post.
so, some of you might be majorly confused as to what the drama is even in the first place. this video was posted earlier this morning about snc and seth when they were at the bellaire house a year or so back. in it, there is security footage that was leaked to this random guy on youtube and he shows three clips of snc and seth acting inappropriately.
first clip was sam asking how they were going to outro the video and seth responded with "kristin (the owner of the bellaire house) is gonna come back and blow all three of us and then we're getting the fuck out of here." colby then says "yes" nonchalantly.
now, this clip is gross, ngl. but the thing is… seth is the one that said it. i don't think it's crazy of me to say that if anyone is apologizing, it should be him. now, was it great to see colby "agree" with him? no, of course not. it's a shame he did that. but it's not the first time guys i like have disappointed me. men are going to say inappropriate shit, especially when no women are around (which btw kristin was not in the house when the comment was said). i'm not saying this negates what happened, i'm just saying realistically shit like this happens all the time. it's not great, and i didn't like seeing that. but i also understand that shit like this happens. idk what else to say, maybe i'm just numb to it.
what makes this clip, i think, more intense, is that at the end of the video the guy shows snc and seth talking to kristin and she explains to them that she's upset at what they did (along with something else that happened). a cop comes in to give a police report (bc they broke a boo buddy) and you can hear the cop say "i watched the footage, and i would say you should charge them with sexual harassment." now, imma be honest, i didn't know a single comment could get someone charged. idk what state the bellaire house is in, but… something about that sounds wrong? but i also don't know the law so don't quote me on it. the thing is, kristin did not charge anyone with sexual harassment. and she sounded like, to me, that that was a jump the police wanted to make that she was not aiming for. most likely, the only reason she got a police report done in the first place is bc of insurance, since that is her business and having something broken usually requires some form of "proof" that it happened, aka a police report. at least, i know that's how pa runs.
i would like to also add about this part of the video, snc sent ss to this guy that posted all of this, bc they knew this was coming apparently (they really do see all), a conversation that kristin had with the guys/a team member of theirs, and she called seth's comment "thoughtless". so clearly, while she took it seriously, she didn't see it as a deeply serious threat of some sort. which is how some ppl are trying to play it off as.
moving onto the second clip, colby and seth fucked around with the boo buddy. seth grabbed a knife and "stabbed" it. we do not see this actually take place, just him making the motions of stabbing and colby not even flinching so i'm gonna assume that he wasn't actually stabbing it. later the boo buddy kept talking, and eventually colby kicked it and it broke. snc paid for this boo buddy to be replaced. now, obviously this behavior is childish. but, they paid it back. so…. i don't really know what else to say other than "yeah, it kinda sucks they did that, but they paid it back so it's done with."
to the random ppl on reddit that said "i bet snc wouldn't have even paid for it if they didn't caught"……… please consider buying a brain or using the slight bit of common sense i know you must have. do you really think they wouldn't have paid for it if they didn't catch it on camera????? bffr.
third and final clip, they're all sitting around in between takes and it looks like either, depending on the person that's watching the video, that either seth or sam said "confession number one, all this shit is fake." of course, ppl are trying to now use this as proof that snc fake their shit or they don't this seriously or whatever. my honest thoughts on this is…. we do not know the full context of why sam or seth would have said that. they could have, crazy concept, been joking. or saying something sarcastically. hell, sam was on his phone at the time, so it's possible that he was READING a comment that said this, bc he (or seth) continues and says "confession number two…" and then sam shows something to colby on his phone. so to me, this is not the smoking gun some of these ppl want it to be.
it's also noted that according to an inside source that this random man on youtube had, snc were supposed to go to the ross house and film but they weren't allowed to or would have to be supervised bc kristin told the ross house about what happened.
that was everything that happened in the video. i've basically said my peace about it. but now, i'm gonna go on a rant for moment.
to me, this feels like a desperate attempt to make a mountain out of a mole hill bc clearly some ppl don't fucking like snc and this, to them, will be the nail in the coffin since the conjuring house didn't do enough to their liking. my biggest gripe about this entire situation is that while yes, it doesn't exactly paint snc or seth in the most mature light, this was already dealt with. according to snc and their emails with the guy that leaked this footage, snc believe they are on good terms with kristin, so clearly things worked out. now if kristin comes out and says otherwise, i'll gladly listen and change my opinion accordingly. but i have sneaking suspicion that a grown woman with a business to run is not up for drama and all this dumb shit getting stirred around.
this "drama" is between snc, seth, and kristin. not us. not the general public, but them. and it has been resolved. unless other shit comes out saying otherwise, there is really not that much to discuss here, impo. the only reason this is being talked about now is bc there is already a heat placed on snc.
i mean, what a strange coincidence that i get an ask yesterday asking me if snc have ever been banned from any place, this video comes out, and an HOUR after it comes out i get an ask about it. weird, don't you think?
that being said, i get why some ppl are upset at snc or seth or all three. i get it. i'm just not one of those ppl. you're allowed to feel however you want, same as i. and with that, i'm done with this.

My Small Analysis of Would've Could've Should've
Forward notes
I am not a native English user, neither am I cultured by western literture or religion. Yet, I've been learning English since a little kid, and have watched and read many stories in western themes. So I am confident with what I write about. But if I make a clear mistake, feel free to point me out anytime.
Futhermore, everything I write are just my opinion. I do not know Taylor, I do not know if she is queer. These are just my interpretation of her art and her music, no need to say anything rude about what I think. But discussion is welcomed in the comment section. ☺️
My First Thoughts
This song is gay as hell.
I can't believe there's only a few people who thinks of that (even the gaylor community didn't seem to see this song too much). This song is sooo LOUD. The theme of thinking love is a sin, of 'gone along with the righteous' if 'you never'd touched me', of thinking 'pain was heaven'? Oh my god, so gay. What kind of people will think their love is a sin? Queer people.
Thoughout history, sinned love happens because of society's disapproval. Like loving a sex worker, loving a woman who is married, or loving the same sex. If there are only parents who disapprove, it wouldn't make it such as a 'sinned' love. What is suspicious though, in Taylor's case, she was always seen dating men with nice appearances, white, famous and rich man. And if people are right, if they are really dating, why should you feel sinned dating these fine men? People may say that John Mayer is a bad boy, but no one would call dating a bad boy as a sin.
Besides the sinned theme, the other part I think was gay is during the bridge when she yells, "Give me back my GIRL... hood, it was mine first." I literally didn't hear the 'hood', I thought that was her coming out for a second. But then a looked up the lyrics and oh, no she said "girlhood". But still, I kept the thought that the original lyrics was "girl",
Song Lyrics Analysis
I'll try my best to explain myself since English is not my first language. It'll be difficult and I'll have to check the dictionary to make sure with some of the words. And I'll try my best doing line by line. Here we go!
If you would've blinked then I would've Looked away at the first glance
If you tasted poison, you could've Spit me out at the first chance
These two lines are simple. The lover is looking at Taylor intensely and Taylor tries hard not to fall for them (I'm using gender neutral pronouns here. Because why not?). Also, Taylor think of herslf as poison, I guess it could refer to "I once was poison ivy." In Don't Blame Me. And it also pointed out how sinned Taylor thinks herself was.
If I was some paint, did it splatter On a promising grown man? And if I was a child, did it matter If you got to wash your hands?
These are the lines I thought about quite frequently to figure out what it is all about. I guess, the paint is like something colorful, probably something like gayness. And it splatter on a grown man, who I guess is the elder lover, asking: did my gayness pass over to you as I splatter on you?
If I was a child, meaning if this is all childish and shouldn't be taken seriously, did you get to wash out the gayness we had?
Ooh, oh All I used to do was pray Would've, could've, should've If you'd never looked my way
Now Taylor hoping that this love never happened. And "praying" for it, as in a religious way, hoping the love intrest didn't lured her and took her away from what she was the first place.
I would've stayed on my knees And I damn sure never would've danced with the devil At nineteen And the God's honest truth is that the pain was heaven And now that I'm grown, I'm scared of ghosts Memories feel like weapons And now that I know, I wish you'd left me wondering
I think it's quite obvious here so I'm not gonna say much. Just vibe with it yall.
If you never touched me, I would've Gone along with the righteous If I never blushed, then they could've Never whispered about this
Touching me is sinned? GAY.
People whispered about our love? GAY.
And if you never saved me from boredom I could've gone on as I was But, Lord, you made me feel important And then you tried to erase us
So now we figured why Taylor's so sad, because her lover wants to erase thier love. I deeply doubted that this song is about Emily who had married in and probably "moved on" and erase everything they had. But I don't know anything, it's just speculations.
You're a crisis of my faith Would've, could've, should've If I'd only played it safe
I saw someone on Reddit talking about the feeling of this love made a crisis. I think the person interpreted it so well. You can go check it out by jsut searching "Would've Could've Should've Gaylor"😆
God rest my soul, I miss who I used to be The tomb won't close, stained glass windows in my mind I regret you all the time I can't let this go, I fight with you in my sleep The wound won't close, I keep on waiting for a sign I regret you all the time
So I guess this is Taylor sitting through her sleepless nights thinking about how she regrets doing it wrong then. Letting her past lover chase her down as a phantom in her dreams. Really scary isn't it.
If clarity's in death, then why won't this die? Years of tearing down our banners, you and I Living for the thrill of hitting you where it hurts Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first
The bridge is also a part that I have no idea about. "Clarity's in death" may be saying that their love is already secret and private and no one really know what happened, but even though this love is basically invisible, it still won't die. It still aches.
"Tearing down the banners"? Well I seriously can't think of anything. I might guess parading, but it doesn't seem so.
Last two lines? I'm so sorry. I can't get anything out😭
So. That was my first Taylor Swift line by line analysis. I think I could do better but I just really want to share my thoughts. Please comment if you have different ideas!!!

She won calling the shots for debate platform which is her Mainstream ABC platform to hold the debate location
We know orange wanted Fox news, but i get confused because sometimes he would say fox is fake or is thier certain sections of Fox that is fake. We need more clarity on that.
Knowing trump can handle the trenches of NBJ whatever, this will be thier turf. Its going be thier bullshit rules and they will not make it easy.
her comment by the plane just from a female perspective, she said she look forward to that ABC debate but will see for future debates after her first debate with you. That is sketchy, we women say that for a reason either you bomb or you don't. I know she trying save face and her ass , so thats why she probably said well see on Sept 10 debate. VERY SUSPICIOUS AS FUCK ...THEY ARE SO UNTRUSTWORTHY, LIKE SERIOUSLY.
Will will they have fair moderators?
Will the moderators give soft ball questions to Kamala the VP and nasty racist questions to orange, such as all the topics discussed?Expect every negative question to be thrown your way.. Also the questions that you struggle with, you have to ask yourself how can you answer better when its presented? Be prepared to answer in FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT but calm composed and don't ever show weakness or emotion that that she pushed your buttons. People see how intelligent you are from compassion to her about every topic/question thrown. That will be huge for voters to see that
Knowing they are VP/President- i wonder what kind of dirt will they air out. Joe biden in debate randomly said the pornstar. Is kamala going do the same, will they have an audience that will propose a question? Will they have liberal haters as audience to present Q&A questions to the debaters? Will they make Kamala look like America sweetheart as the presidential candidate or have questions make you look like bad person for being against queen kamala to whom they bow to? So many questions..
Please for the love of god... don't squeeze ill bet you ill beat you in a golf game, this is the president throne you want to win. Leader of the motherfucking free world, naw mean... Don't let this women puppet manhandle yo ass on national television..Not the time and place after all the effort, time etc. made. Entire WORLD wants to see you own her ass on national television so sweetly . but a great fuck you dumbass liar. make America great signoff
Mental note: Everyone is USA and other parts of the world are counting on you, if you lose all hope is lost..
its hard because i cant stand watching her, just hearing her voice, i cant but i do see clips from people reactions. She just so full of shit, everything that comes out of her mouth so untrue, unreal. how can people tolerate her being the next president? because we live in a world where these people exist and they want someone like that to vote for, despite the policy's, the make America great again. Those people want to feel like winners even though we know thier not and knowing that they can beat an intelligent educated person with little effort, lies, manipulation, kinda taking the short cut(instead of working hard or putting in the work, they don't have to like no interviews, barely rallies) makes them feel superior. Like haha in your face orange/vance, yall did all that work and my kamala ass just had to do this with my celebrity puppets . This is how we think, its female ego talking.
In Biden America, on THE WORKPLACE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM , YOU SEE ALL THESE UN-DESERVING PROMOTIONS LIKE WTF. Your like i worked with her or him, they suck they are slackers and now they are manager, director, president. Because today leadership, in order to get promoted FOR THE JOB TITLE right now YA GOTTA KISS THAT ASS, KISS KISS MAD ASS, BOW DOWN, MAKE THOSE PUPPET CONNECTIONS AND THEY ARE UTILIZING DEI FOR PROMOTIONS FOR BLACK, LATINAS WORLD. ITS ALL WTF...
I WOULD WANT THAT CHANGED BACK TO MERIT, HARD WORK, DEVELOPMENT, STARTED FROM THE BOTTOM, NOW AT THE TOP. giving people back that feeling of accomplishment, being rewarded, and earning things along the way from bottom to the top..teach the kiddos if one decides to have kids, the value of a hardworking dollar. Money dont grow on trees son..
That's why people would vote , for kamala because easy way for them, makes the losers feel like winners..
Thinking, brainstorming....

The main problem with the whole mal vs the darkling thing in regards to being possessive (or really when it comes to any of their traits) is the fact that throughout, the darkling is clearly framed as the villain and his actions reflect that, whereas Mal as supposed to be the good guy and best romantic partner for Alina, and yet he has all these awful character traits and tendencies. So its less about how awful the Bad Guy is (since he's supposed to be), and more about how awful the person that we're supposed to believe is the best option for Alina is. I don't ship either, just my two cents.
Okay well... two things. First, your comment about "its less about how awful the bad guy is, since he's supposed to be", takes every comment I've made about Darkles out of context, which seems fitting since everything Darklina's spout about Mal is out of context. Him being the Bad Guy is fine, and if you like him AS A VILLAIN, and acknowledge all the bad shit he does, then my posts aren't for you. I think he's a very interesting villain, and a lot of the terrible shit he does that I have to keep making posts about make him a good villain, the problem is when the terrible shit the "Bad Guy" does is romanticized and viewed as the reasons why Alina SHOULD have picked him. So, don't assume everyone gets that "hes supposed to be awful". The point my post was making is that Darklina's love to call Mal possessive, but then turn around and act like Darkles literally enslaving her in somehow sexy and romantic. It's fucking not, and it's transparent as hell that y'all romanticize and sexualize the actually possessive character, and then project false character traits onto Mal. It's so transparent, it's almost funny.
But, more importantly, to your second, very wrong point, I wonder how much of the narrative about Mal having "awful character traits and tendencies" is actually a commentary on Mal as a character, or is it just Darklina's lying about things Mal has done and everyone accepting that misinterpretation as canon. Because, if were making a list...
Fuck boy - False! Mal was not a fuck boy! He was an attractive teenager who hooked up with consenting girls his age when he could, and he was not in a relationship during that time. Alina had never told him how she felt, so he is not beholden to her. (Also, nobody seems to have an issue with the fact that Darkles hooked up with Zoya in the show, that doesn't make HIM a fuckboy... interesting) (also also, nobody seems to discuss Darkles literally sexually assaulting Alina, and lying and manipulating her to get her to be physically intimate with him so he can use her... double interesting).
Slut Shames Alina - FALSE! The ever favourite callout line from Darklina's "He's all over you" isn't him slut shaming her. First, he has no idea what their relationship is like at that point, but more importantly, he is making an observation of her status in the little palace and how she has become his tool. He has dressed her up in his colors, made her put on a show for his benefit, and has created a situation where Alina appears to be his. Mal is noting that after months of searching for her, believing she was being hurt, tortured, or worse, when he arrives to save her, she looks like the Darkling's pet. (and, even if he WAS angry because he perceived them to be romantically involved, boy just spent months fighting for his life, lost multiple friends, and almost died to find her, all while coming to the realisation that he was in love with her, and then he shows up, after not hearing from her for months... I'd be pissed as hell too.) Important Note: He even acknowledges that what he said was wrong and tries to apologise, before Alina tells him that he was right. (Shadow and Bone, pg. 286). He also then apologizes, completely unprompted, for what he said. (Shadow and Bone, pg. 297).
Fat Shames Alina - False! This one is particularly laughable to me, because its one of the Darklina arguments that falls apart the second you actually read the scene. They are running for their lives in the forest, and Mal has to hunt and gather to feed them. He is noting that Alina's appetite has increased since he last saw her, and he makes a joke (ya know, how you do with friends) about how it would be easier to keep her fed if she still had her more meager appetite from before. He makes no comment on her weight, or her size, and he is not actually commenting on her appetite in a negative way, he is just acknowledging that it's a lot more work for him now that she eats more. Right before he says the line, the quote even proves that he isn't shaming her or thinking badly of her: "With a bemused expression, he watched as I gobbled down my portion and then sighed, still hungry". He is noting a change in her, and complaining that its made more work for him. If you think thats the same as fat shaming, well... thats a you problem.
Hates Alina's Powers - FALSE!!!! How to begin... do we talk about it was Mal's idea to hunt the stag in S&B, because he knew she needed it to be more powerful so she could stop the darkling? Do we talk about how he vowed to find the firebird for her, even though he was terrified of what all that power would do to her? Do we talk about how he literally died so she could achieve the power she needed to save the world? Or maybe we could talk about how he believed in her power more than anyone else, like when everyone was making bets about her abilities with the Cut and he knew she'd go further and better than anyone else expected her too, or when he tells her that he was never afraid of her powers, only what seeking all that power would do to her (which is literally the theme of the books, that power corrupts and seeking unmatched power can destroy you)? Mal being afraid of what is going to happen to Alina, being protective of her and worrying over her, is not the same as him hating her powers. He exists to help remind Alina of the themes of the story, and to guide her into maintaining her humanity.
Abusive - ... Do I even need to explain this one? Must I deign an explanation as to why this favourite Darklina lie is so fucking stupid, and also totally hypocrisy? No? Because we all know Darkles is actually the abusive one and they're trying to project their own shit onto Mal to further their abuse apologist agenda? Cool. Moving on.
Possessive of Alina - False! Throughout the entire series, Mal is quite literally the opposite of possessive, but yall just cant read. Not only does he quite literally step out of the way and allow Nikolai to court Alina without argument, which is the most direct example of him not being possessive, he also spends two full books believing, and repeatedly saying over and over and over, that they can't be together because he is not good enough for her. Mal believes, fully, that Alina deserves more than him, better than him, because he's just a tracker and a soldier, just a regular man with nothing to offer her but his love and his protection, and she is a Saint and should be a Queen. Possessiveness is the wish to own and control someone, it is literally the opposite of Mal believing that he's not good enough and doing everything he can to ensure that Alina achieves everything and gets everything he believes she is owed. A possessive character would not tell her to tell him to leave because he has nothing he can offer her, no title or land or country or crown. A possessive character would not promise to be the blade in her hand, because he believed he had nothing but the blood he could spill to offer her.
Angry - True! Yeah, omg, you caught us, Mal is ANGRY! Heaven forbid a teenager who is traumatized beyond belief and has to give up everything in his life, his position in the military (he deserted for her), his friends and the job he loved (Mikhail and Dubrov died for him, and he can't be a tracker in the army... because he deserted... for Alina), and, most importantly, he has to give up Alina (she should be Queen, he believes, and he has to give up the future he imagined with the girl he loves, who he was pretty sure loved him back, because she's a saint and queen and he's just a man), and more, is ANGRY. He has to be the one to find the amplifiers that he knows will end up hurting her, because thats what she needs to save the world. He has to sit by while Nikolai treats him like the dirt on his shoe and tries to woo Alina for his own personal gain (because Nikoalai did not love Alina. Maybe he came to care for her, but he proposed and spent all of S&S trying to get her to marry him when it was obvious they were not in love. He straight up says its so that the next King of Ravka can be married to the Sun Summoner. It's a power grab.) and he can't do anything about it. So yeah, Mal is angry. And yeah, sometimes he's even angry at Alina, just like sometimes she's angry at him. But they always find their way back, always apologize and try to be better for each other, and if you think anger is a toxic trait, and not simply a natural human emotion, might I suggest touching some fucking grass?
Idk why you thought I'd stand for Mal slander on my blog, cuz I will not. So, I'm gonna stop there, because I have shit to do today, but I really do wonder how much of Mal's 'toxic' or 'terrible' traits, that make him such a 'bad' love interest for Alina, really comes from Darklina's who refuse to actually read the text critically at all, and instead take everything he does and says out of context to further their agenda that Alina should have ended up as the Darkling's fucking slave forever, because thats the "girl power feminist" ending somehow. Mal supports her, loves her, sacrifices for her at every turn, and does everything he can do, to the point of literally dying for her, to ensure that she can defeat Darkles and save the world. He protects her, and when they end up happy and safe together on the orphange that they've rebuilt to help the children that were victims of Darkles war and genocide, he spends his days bringing her tea and cakes and flowers, kissing her silly under the stairs in the view of all the teachers, and calling her names like beauty, beloved, cherished, my heart for the rest of their ordinary life together, if love can ever be called that.

Hey, I'm really sorry to read about your loss and I hope you're doing ok. I haven't lost a loved one that wasn't a pet before so I don't have any good words or advice. But I just wanted to say I love your writing and your dialogue for fg, and knowing it comes from somewhere special for you makes it even sweeter to read, like it's so soft and personal it's incredible you write it to share with us. So thank you, and I hope you have a good day!
Oh man. Thanks for that hon.
I always feel like there are a bunch of people out there who want to say something to someone they know who’s dealing with grief but they don’t know how or what to say so they don’t.
And on the one hand I got so done with hearing the phrase “sorry for your loss” about three days in to this nightmare. But on the other hand we as a society are completely unprepared to talk about grief openly, and sometimes there’s just nothing else you know to say and that’s fine. Hell im trying to base my career on the topic and just this morning I heard from a friend from highschool that they recently lost someone and I said it then. Honestly I think it’s more a problem when it’s the only thing people say.
Cause I’ve ranted before about how I hate that phrase. But when it’s like this? When there’s actually some kind words to back it up, to show you it’s more than someone just repeating the standard saying to placate your too big emotions that they know how or don’t want to deal with?
It’s very heartwarming.
I know this isn’t really replying exactly to this, but it’s kinda my little soapbox.
Try not to worry about saying exactly the right thing, or advice or whatever when you want to reach out to someone but don’t really understand their grief. Maybe it’s different for others but for me, I will never be anything but touched when someone talks to me or messages me like this. Because one of the biggest things with grief is how isolating it becomes. People don’t understand. It makes them uncomfortable. They don’t know the right things to do or say so they avoid doing or saying anything at all. Or worst, they ignore it. They freeze whenever the persons name is said, or cut them out of old stories.
No one knows how to talk about grief. So, when they eventually experience it themselves, as we all will unfortunately, they have no frame of reference, no outlet, nothing to show them that hey, you’re not broken for not grieving the way the world expects you to.
It’s why I talk about my experience so openly. Why I force myself to put as little of a filter on things as I can (also it just feels better to allow yourself to just be ANGRY or whatever you’re feeling and not apologize for it). And it’s still hard sometimes, especially in creative settings (oh boy critique day during finals earlier this month when I got up and pitched my memoir about how my life fell apart when my girlfriend died?? That was an awkward few minutes).
But not because it’s hard to talk about or because I’m scared of my feelings. But because I’m scared of how people will react. I’m scared of being a downer, of people pitying me, of treating me different, of thinking that because my problems are so obviously tragic and big that means they can’t talk to me about their own issues that they think are lesser than mine.
And I think it’s especially important right now, because we, as a species, are experiencing some major collective trauma, and will have an enormous, complicated, long grieving process that for many of us will be a part of the rest of our lives, whether in the context of lost loved ones or any of the countless other types of loss and grief that can result from this. We’re going to need to be there for each other, and allow ourselves to feel and process and discuss our trauma.
Annnnnnd that was all way more of a rant than you asked for but it’s all to say, thank you. It truly means so much.
In other news HEY! You, my friend, better be expecting some big excited comments/replies when my brain starts working again because you have been absolutely killing it with this kiss series and I am LOVING IT.
Also a note: you know what just /gets/ me? When people say ‘thank you for writing/sharing this’
LIKE YALL
ARE SO SOFT AND GOOD AND KIND AND IM NOW OBLIGATED NO HONORED TO BE YOUR ETERNAL CHEERLEADER IT IS FINAL NO TAKE BACKS

Conversation
Anti Octavia Blake Discussion
Hey yall! So I'm a big Octavia stan. I pretty much stan all badass female warrior type characters; Allison Argent, Black/White Canary, Tris Prior, Lexa, Octavia, Isabelle Lightwood. Any woman that can handle a weapon I'm all for it.
To get to the point of this post, I did some searching on here about why people dislike Octavia so much. For the life of me I couldn't understand so I wanted to see the other side of things. Having looked at some posts I can see why people wouldn't like her.
The majority of what I'm seeing is that she kills too freely and some people think she's racist and abusive.
1) Kills too freely: I do agree with this but here's why I don't care. It's a fucking show. She's killed way less people than Clarke and Bellamy combined. Granted, she went about it in a "less humane" way. There really is no humane way to kill someone for the sake of survival and when you look at all of her kills they've been about survival no matter how small it seemed. She's no different from Clarke and Bellamy pulling the lever countless times. She just knows how to handle a weapon better than they do because she's a fucking warrior. And it's a fucking show.
2) She's racist: How dare you. Like seriously, how dare you. Being Black, I can't see any case where she's been racist. Not that being Black or any minority sets the bar for knowing when someone's racist or not but that's just my opinion. Lincoln, the love of her life, was presumably Black. Indra, her motherly mentor, is Black. Raven and Monty are here friends. She's never done anything to harm any of these people - I saw someone say she smacked Lincoln when he was on drugs and I about lost it because he needed tough love at that point (having a parent on drugs at the moment I'd love to smack some sense into them as well). In 5x02 she killed the guy that stabbed Jaha, a Black man that she HATED the entire series. Mind you, she didn't want to kill those people, she even gave them a choice to LIVE IN PEACE SO THEY CAN ALL BE WONKRU. What about that is racist exactly? She's got Indra, Miller, and Gaia by her side as adversaries toward the end of the episode. HOW IS THAT RACIST EXACTLY? And if the issue is about her only killing people of color, which was the point that person was trying to make, she's killed White people too. So killing sees no color. You happy?
3) She's abusive: This one I can actually kinda agree on but only because they brought up her beating Bellamy up when he was chained to the cave wall after Lincoln was killed. I was fifty on that when I watched it with my older sister. We were uncomfortable about it so we didn't talk about it really and we have a very different relationship than the Blake siblings, then again we aren't the Blake siblings. Here's why I'm arguing against this statement, Octavia grew up isolated from everyone except her mother who's dead and her brother. Besides Bellamy, she only really had Lincoln that she let into her life in a significant way. I'm not saying her beating him was okay, but let's not forget she up until Earth she only had two one important person in her life and when the second was murdered in front of her by her brother's "mentor" she lashed out on the only other living closest person should had. Again, it wasn't right of her, but we all fuck up. The other scene that was referenced was her making Ilian sleep with her or something in the cave. FIRST OF ALL, season four was the beginning of her darkest hour. That scene was her admitting she didn't feel anything because she was numb from pain and loss, and she wanted to kill herself. Ilian stopped her from going out into the black rain and doing just that. She begged him to make her feel something else. She didn't rape him. She didn't act "abusively" to make him make her feel something. Oh, and there was another comment about her shoving Indra when she was weak. In case yall haven't noticed the FUCKING GROUNDERS speak in violence and tough love. She learned this behavior from Indra. She integrated into grounder culture. Obviously, not everyone is violent or a warrior but what do you expect of someone who's social interaction was limited for sixteen years to her older brother and mother that babied her, then she was locked up in after the reveal of her existence, and pushed into a world where violence beget violence. "Jus drein jus daun" right? Where's the loyalty to that saying or is it only okay when Lexa says it? Or any other grounder?
So if anyone would like to politely discuss the issue I'd be down for hearing more of the other side viewpoints because until I looked into this I hadn't thought about all of those traits. Now, I'm a writer so I do spend more time in characters head's (like most writers do) and feel more protective and defensive of them than most. Even if I don't like a character I can understand their side and I don't just jump into hating someone without trying to dig into where everything's coming from. I wasn't a fan of Jaha a lot of the time but I appreciated what his character brought and I saw that he was struggling and trying to make amends even though he was largely hated throughout the fandom. People in this fandom, like mosts, don't seem to take second glances at characters. Like Jasper. Lots of people hated him later in the seasons and I didn't agree with everything that he did or became but he was hurting dammit. And no one seemed to remember that.

#Power S4 EP5: Don't Thank Me *Recap & Review* #FreeGhost
Episode Rating Scale: (10) Exceptional
I don't know about yall but this season of Power got me all fired up. I mean screaming at Angela and Dre for they shadiness. Shaking my head at how devious Kanan is about any and everything. Realizing Jukebox is crazier than Kanan. Loving Tommy and LaKeisha together. So much to scream about and more love to keep watching. Let's recap and discuss Power... Don't Thank Me.
Angela finally gets it!!! She finally understands Ghost didn't kill Greg. How can you claim to know that man but not know when he is telling the truth and lying? Better yet, all that you do know why you would believe he would kill Greg now? Ghost could have been doing that, so why would he now. Sadly, everything he has done has been for the love he had for her. Even the fake break up was to protect her from Mulan. She so smarts till she dumb, I swear. As she sits talking to her sister Paz, I was shocked to hear her sister encourage her to tell her boss what she discovered. We all know Paz didn't care too much for Ghost, but that caught me by surprise. Silver and Ghost discuss the freezing of his finances. I can no longer call him the little helper attorney, lol. Ghost don't trust him anymore then we would. I mean, how can you trust an attorney with full details of your life; who has clearly made it known he doesn't like you. Proctor being removed from the case was the worst thing ever to me. Silver want Ghost to trust him and for a second seem like Ghost thought about trusting him. Silver wanted to know did the prosecution find something in his finances. I mean they close Truth, the hair salon, and the bank account basically. Did they find something? Ghost told him they found nothing but you know he worried. He probably wondering, did I slip up somewhere?
Angela talks to Mike. She tells him the tapes doesn't show Ghost hiding the gun in his office. Because Mike is the real killer, he is not trying to hear anything she has to say. John and Saks interrupt Angela and Mike conversation. Apparently, they found a check between Tommy and Ghost. Now, why would Tommy use a check if he is going to hire Ghost to kill a Fed?  So smart till they dumb. Tony is setting something up. He talking to that CO played by Charlie Murphy. Nothing good coming out of that. Silver tells Tarsha she might have to testify. He is trying to be sneaky and get her to tell him what Ghost isn't saying. Little did he know, Tarsha isn't telling you anything. Keisha and Tommy's romance seems to be brewing.  Keisha is falling for Tommy, but  Tommy is messed up over Holly. That ignorance of Keisha question said it all. Tommy heard her ask what Holly do to break them up. Tommy confronts Proctor about not telling him he is kicked off Ghost's case. Proctor learns that Tarsha is also deep in Tommy's and Ghost's business. Stern pays Ghost a visit. He is trying to get his business back. Ghost does need money but he selling nothing
Proctor is spending time with his daughter when Angela pays him a visit. She wants Proctor help Ghost. Proctor truly doesn't like Angela. We can't blame him on that. He tells Angela to call Silver and talk to Ghost to get the answers she seek. No handshake for you Angela. Tarsha and Keisha have girl talk. Keisha tells Tarsha she is dating a white boy. I thought she didn't want Tarsha to know. I guess she let the cat out the bag. That look Tarsha gave her and Keisha didn't deny she wasn't talking about Tommy.  Keisha has fallen for Tommy, omgg. Angela visit Ghost with Silver by her side. Angela learns what Ghost did that night Greg was killed. She finds out he was there when she was at Greg's apartment. She find it hard to believe but she knows he telling the truth. She gives Silver the heads up about the check John going to present to the judge. On that note, meeting over. Silver needs to talk to his client. The more the Feds dig, the more its a possibility Tarsha has to take the stand. That wouldn't be good for none of them.
Tariq is staring at a girls number. Tommy sneaks up on him. They share a man to man talk. Tommy finds out Tariq has had sex at a party. Tariq once again lies about the company he keeps. He done got Dre in more hot water with Tommy. Kanan is doing a number on this kid. He mad at his father and hanging with a devil. Ironic he feels his father has lied to him so he mad at Ghost. Little does he know, Slim aka Kanan is lying to him and using him.
Tarsha and the kids arrive at court. Tarsha try to talk to Silver but he can't talk right now. John enter the check into evidence to the judge. Silver calls a witness to the stand. Tarsha thinks it's her but nope, Ghost took the stand. He explains the check was to cover security for his three nightclubs. Ghost puts on the business man persona. If I didn't know better I would have believe he was an innocent business man. Lol. Now the prosecutor has something up their sleeve. What could it be? While court is in recess, Stern approach Tarsha. Since Ghost turned him down, he goes to wifey. Glad Tarsha didn't feed into him. Dre had a new idea for Tommy. The feds got Tommy business a little out of order with Truth being closed, the drug business isn't getting that club money. Dre comes up with anyway to make that money. Tommy likes the idea. He asked Dre about the party he took Tariq too. Of course Dre denies taking him to a party but Tommy think he lying. Court doesn't go well with Mike questioning Ghost. He managed to push Ghost buttons enough for him to scream "I didn't kill Greg." So because he called the man Greg, he killed him. Ummmmmm, he dated Angela and Greg dated Angela. Their paths have cross, why wouldn't he know him as Greg. Duh!!!  Don't see how that help the prosecution case.
Back at the jail Ghost is upset with Silver. He does see how he let Mike take him out of character and call him a killer in front if his kids. Silver tells Ghost he will need more money to get all the help to beat this case. Ghost doesn't have that kind of money. Looks like Ghost is losing faith of beating these charges. Ghost in the gym blowing off some fustration. I don't know about y'all but I was screaming "Noooo, Ghost!!!",  at the TV.  That CO pushed the wrong button talking about screwing Tarsha and his kids calling him daddy. James lose his cool and Ghost emerges. He takes all his fustration out on him and give him a blood bath death. Then enters Biscuits and Tony. So that was the plan. They was going to kill Ghost. I guess that plan didn't work out. Biscuits tries to stab Ghost. As they wrestle, Tony change the plan. He kills Biscuits, then orders Ghost to change clothes with Biscuits. Amazing how the jail has no camers. Lol. Anyway, now Tony has something to hold over Ghost head. How will he use it?
Tarsha question Tommy about him and LaKeisha. Tommy tells her it all started when she hid her from Mulan. Tarsha share the news that Keisha is into him. Tommy finally tells Tarsha the truth. Tarsha thought Tommy would have found her after finding out she was pregnant. He tells her the entire story about not being able to kill Ghost per Lobos orders. Holly tried to kill Ghost and he thought he was dead. He didn't know she was pregnant. Tommy isn't feeling LaKeisha like that. He loved Holly and he killed her. Hard pill to swallow. Tommy not ready to love again. Poor LaKeisha with a friend like Tarsha, who needs enemies. She basically told Tommy to keep dealing with her to keep her from being a woman scorned or kill her. At least that's what I took from the protect the family. Lol.
Angela takes the stand to testify on the truth. She admits the tapes clear Ghost of the charges. John brings up Angela and Ghost relationship. The judge had enough. He orders suspension for the entire prosecutor team and set Ghost free. Yassssssssss!!!! That's what I was screaming at the TV. Ghost thanks Angela but of course she just couldn't say, "You are welcome." Smh. Dre and Kanan meets up. Dre gives Kanan his last payment. Dre ask him again to leave Tariq alone. Dre offers Kanan a proposition to help him. As the two of them talking, Julio sees this meeting. Now what will he do with that information. Finally, someone know Kanan isn't dead other then Dre. Angela and Mike meet up in the elevator. Mike is upset with her but Angela did the right thing. He should be glad and just get out if dodge before the heat come down on him. Silver and Tarsha share a suspicious hug. Looks like they might be feeling each other. Silver tells Tarsha they might want to get a float with their money taking such a lost. At least Ghost can open Truth back up now and the hair salon. When he leaves, Tarsha calls stern. Now what she up to?
Tariq shows up at Slim's crib. What unexpected visitor is waiting? Tommy has been ordered to go to Chicago. He gets a new ride and leaves his phone behind. Now what is going on. He top dog, how he leave his phone behind. On top of that, he is leaving without knowing Ghost is free. What is going on now? What is about to happen with Tommy? Tony gives Ghost a phone to give to Tommy. Ghost want to know why he interested in Tommy. He knows Tiny been in jail too long to know them personally. He asked, "You know his father or something?" Tony doesn't admit to nothing. The look on Ghost face tells it all. Tony Terisi is Tommy's father. I still stand by that. Lol. As the final moments come to close to the end, we see Jukebox come from out the shadows. That was the surprise visit. The original plan to hold Tariq for ransom and take all of Ghost money is back on the table as plan now that Ghost is free. When she asked Kanan was he down with it, his response, "what you want me to do?" Kanan got all ends covered to take Ghost down. You just can't trust nobody. Stay tuned as Power keeps us on the edge of our seats.
