#does fusebox ever change? nope

I need to speak on this because it’s happened far too many times and seems to be a recurring pattern with Fusebox.

It’s really shameful and disheartening to see how often Fusebox puts black women characters into couples with people that don’t actually like them, and proceeds to villainize them in the eyes of MC/other characters in the game.

We’ve seen it in S2 with Hope being loyal to Noah then getting disrespected by him when he confessed to MC in the end.

We’ve seen it with Grace in S6, sticking with Ozzy although he’s disrespected her and clearly wasted her time by staying with her when he was pining for MC all along. And even when he does tell her he’s not interested anymore, she does everything in her power to “win him over” instead of allowing her to rightfully look elsewhere for love.

And if you’re going the Jin route in S8, it happens with Luna. Jin doesn’t want her but he sticks around to spare her feelings. She embarrasses herself trying to win him over only to get booted off the show.

Next, they love to turn them into the “mean ones” by getting upset with MC/defending their relationship when romance (often initiated by the one they’re coupled up with) strikes.

Then they’re the enemy and everyone is waiting for them to be voted out of their game.

Yeah, sure, they’re just characters. It’s just a game. But it blows my mind, especially seeing this as a black player, that time and time again they’ve done this with the black women characters in the exact SAME way:

1. Couple with someone that’s not interested

2. argue/be a jerk to MC/refuse to take hints that their love interest doesn’t like them

3. do acrobatics to win said love interest over

4. get heartbroken, kicked off

If you’re going to put black women in your show, is it too much to ask them to be respected? To be deserving of a happy ending too? Reflect on how you’ve been representing black women, Fusebox.

Then do better.

guides: recoupling

even on what it seems to be your full-proof choice, still could get messed up because of glitches or simply because the game decided “you’re not worthy. start over!”, and since there’s a few asks about this, here are the hacks and tips for the recouplings and switching (¬¬) ceremonies.

i won’t consider the pairing on day one to be a recoupling, since it’s the first ever choice regarding a partner, however, i will say this: be careful with the guys and the order you choose them to talk. your second choice will be the boy who chases asks you to the bean bags to talk about hios crush, and the third will take guy number 2′s place if you reject him.

the following options for events such as the firepit, after the girls’ fight, will be decided on who you have a bigger heart score with, so that’s not defined by that particular order, back on day one.

also, a long time ago, noah used to stay back, even if you declared interest. now, depending on your choices (in the bedroom, during the conversation with the girls), he can step forward. same goes for bobby. he would step forward regardless, but that was changed recently, and now it’s based off the options you go for previously.

noah will always be stolen by hope, and it will be addressed by lottie during “truth or dare”, as in “unfair”. so, if you choose noah, prepare to couple up with bobby, since he’s the last choice.

the recoupling on day three has only three options. gary will never be able to pick you, even if you were together on day 1, since fusebox decided to put him through hell and choose between hannah and marisol, getting backlash from lottie, and the bathroom kiss they exchanged. it’s all foreshadowing, so it doesn’t matter if breakfast-gate happened or not.

now, on a lucas/henrik playthrough, a few players, such as myself, love going for rocco on day three. and not always they are able to make him choose them. when on the lawn, all of the boys are options to talk to, that afternoon. two categories play a role here: non-option and option. rocco, ibrahim and bobby are available to be persuaded, gary and noah are not. at least for now.

so if you wanna make sure rocco chooses you, the one thing you need to do is talking to him, then talk to a non-option boy, gary or noah. they’ll never be able to say your name at the recoupling, so this way, you secure the one you want, which is... rocco.

if you drop by the gym and talk to bobby, there’s a chance of him picking you, based on your “heart face” score, and you would have to go back to the start of the day. so all you need to do is talk to the boy you want, then proceed to gary or noah, to make sure you get picked by who you desire.

there’s no default boy and there’s a number of choices that determines your heart face score, and it’s not an even number. so, for instance, if you decide to please all the boys, eventually, one of the options will make one of them more attracted to you, because there’s no possibility of a tie between them.

on day nine, you can pick four boys, and it gets tricky due to lottie and marisol. they couldn’t care less if you went for rahim or bobby, but if you say lurik’s name, or gary’s, there’s a couple of “facing consequences” sort of interactions.

with marisol, if you wanna keep the heart score high, you can choose the option “try your best”. this one will make her say “no, no. i don’t wanna be in that situation anymore”. i’m paraphrasing. this is the friendly way to go.

disaster has only two paths: villa! lucas/henrik or noah. if you were in a couple with lucas or henrik, previously, and didn’t participate in operation nope, then they’ll pick you, but still be upset about jakub’s and noah’s choice (¬¬). they’ll still say your name and that they’re open to make it work. **it does feel like a favor during the ceremony, but the tone is changed once you’re on the daybeds with them.**

if you participated on operation nope, noah will choose you, regardless. the variables will always be you and priya, between lurik and noah. there are no more possibilities of choice there.

if with noah, you’ll have the kissing option on the daybeds, free, but i HIGHLY SUGGEST you go for the gem scene, after. you get a really nice dialogue, some stories about his siblings, and even a nicer make out session. if you wish to stay on lucas’ or henrik’s route, gem scene is pretty good too, so you can pay for it, before going to bed.

the next morning, the gem scene, before you leave, it’s open to get it with anyone you want. once, i was bored (waiting for a new episode) and went for all of them, before settling on the boy i was with, prior to the recoupling.

bobby, gary, henrik, lucas and jakub say they’ll wait for you to be back, and no girl can hold a candle to you. very sweet and nice. each one of them you get a different dialogue, depending on your loving interactions prior to that moment, but all different stories and anecdotes.

ibrahim and noah DON’T SAY THAT!!! SHADY!

now, if lurik goes for priya, they’ll come back single. noah will only come back single out of his route. bobby, gary and jakub stay single in all routes, and ibrahim will always bring shannon.

it’s painful not to get that “no girl can hold a candle to you” from rahim and noah, y’all...

day 17, you’re back from casa amor, and there’s a choice you need to make. between the guys you can romance in casa, and the og boys from the villa, you have a lot of options here.

if you decide to stay single, chelsea will always bring elijah, and that makes four people able to save four people from the dumping, on the next night: you, gary, bobby and lottie. if you decide to switch, chelsea will stay loyal to gary, making bobby and lottie the only singles, saving only hope and noah.

priya will always be dumped, no matter which choices you make.

so, if on noah’s route, he’ll always bring blake and he’ll never go back to you again, until the last day. if you decide to bring someone on his route, priya and lucas/henrik will be dumped without any reasoning. they stayed loyal and still, will be gone on the next day.

it’s painful, and a little unfair.

chelsea will ask you who you wanna be with, by the pool, while talking about mini foods with shannon and your current partner. the person you say the name will do the following:

glancing in your direction during the mr. and mrs. challenge

approach you in the kitchen, to talk on the roof terrace (in the same afternoon)

person that is jealous about you and your current partner, during the dinner you cooked  (the mentioning of kitchen bits)

approaches you after the dinner, for a paid scene, at the roof terrace, to0 talk about the next recoupling

feeds you breakfast, on the next day

**if on noah’s route, the one to talk to you at night, and give you breakfast in the morning, will be the boy/girl you have the most “heart face” score with. it can be someone from casa amor who’s not even in the villa. (in my case it was arjun once)

the person who picks you on the recoupling is the person you tell hope, in the morning, even if you told chelsea a different name. all people are available, except noah and graham, of course. if on noah’s route, you pick his name, when talking to hope. the game will give you a thought bubble saying “i can’t exactly tell her that” and then, you can pick a second name.

it doesn’t matter whose name you say, they’ll pick you and you’ll have a “night at the roof terrace” gem option. even marisol and ibrahim.

their partners will want to talk to you, so if it’s ibrahim, shannon approaches, if marisol, graham approaches. and if gary, even if lottie was never with him, she’ll be the dialogue default.

final recoupling is a little tricky if you’re doing a “thirsty” playthrough, due to the number of options you wanna have at the end. one miserable kiss with someone is enough to have their names at the final recoupling, and in most cases, the very first guy you coupled up will also feature on the list.

but it is your final chance to choose someone and you have all the options laid down on your turn.

here you can take the slowburn for bobby, gary, lucas, henrik, ibrahim. although, with ibrahim is very much awful since you’ll have jo crying all over the villa because of him. it used to be funny, now it’s just sad.

before the recoupling, you’ll have a challenge in the afternoon, “happily after ever”, and in it, a possibility of choosing the wrong options, so you can have a dialogue with your current partner, at the roof terrace. while there, you can choose if you wanna stick together, even if you’re not as compatible, OR, break up. if you do break up, this person will still be an option later, but you can choose whoever else tickles your fancy.

the next morning will be awkward if you decide to go with someone else, and there’s a dialogue in the morning, with your ex. they will say, despite of you making it very clear that you wanted to break up, that “i just went along with it”.

it’s almost as if they were ignoring that they said “i understand”.

***this guide is more of a “situations and when they happened”, than anything else. for me, who writes for the game, sometimes it’s quite hazy and the events mix themselves, so i like having something like this to help me remember certain dialogues and when the boys and girls are options or not. so, i don’t have to search on youtube or play the game again***

1. Tim or Bobby?

Oh this is hard! I guess I will go with Bobby, just because fusebox didn't give us the chance to have Tim as a love interest! Which is a crime!

2. Choose two Islanders (from any season) to be quarantined with, and why? 

Bobby of course, we would have so much fun baking together and making endless pillow forts/ having all the lip sync battles. I would also choose Priya! I think that would be a really fun combination!

3. How/when did you discover the game?

 I actually discovered the game like a year ago by accident haha I was watching love island UK and I went looking for the app for the tv show but found the game instead! I downloaded it because I was curious. I luckily started playing season 2 first and I feel really lucky I did! Because I don't know if I could have stuck it out if only season 1 was available! 

4. If you could rewrite a scene, what scene would you rewrite? 

Returning from Casa Amor!! First I would have tackled my man Bobby so fast when he came out single, and been kissing his whole freckled face! Also I would have shown that Nelly music video circa 2002 time traveler *Blake the snake* who the real bad bitch in the villa was, and I wanted my friends to stick up for me and shut her down as well! Like are you honestly going to sit here and tell me that Priya and Bobby just sat there and did nothing?! Nope, No, I refuse to believe it. Even Lurik/Noah saying like Blake that is uncalled for. Come on. 🙄

5. Favourite challenge? 

Heart rate challenge. The only thing I would change is give me an opportunity to dance up on everyone haha. Or the Dunking challenge from season 1, because I would have liked to dunk so many people haha.

6. If you could put/ship two Islanders together, who would you put together and why?

Chelsea and Henrik... I think they are actually really cute together haha they are like Milo and Otis. They would be best friends for sure! I also would have been interested to see Marisol and Elisa together.

7. Describe your ideal S3 LI. 

A mix of Bobby, and Kassam. Really funny and outgoing, but with some sarcasm, who is also kinda chill. Also slightly jealous (Not too much because that is such a turn off but just enough to know that they are really interested.) Someone I can joke around with, who will stick up for me! Or at least pull me out of nonsense situations (Think Ovie from Love Island UK when he pulls his girl out of the fight, just silently walks up and says nope lets go.)

8. New or old Hannah? 

Old Hannah, she was annoying and whiney but at least she wasn't a bitch with lame ass intentions at revenge. Also that hair is just hard to look at. Also it was hard for me because I felt like fusebox was making it seem like she had to change who she was for people to notice her. Say it with me YOU DONT HAVE TO HAVE A “GLOW UP” TO BE VALUED! YOU HAVE VALUE AS YOU ARE! AND THE RIGHT PERSON WILL SEE THAT!

9. Who was dumped too soon?

Priya! She deserved to stay! Also I wish Henrik and Lucas could have both stayed in the beginning! As I stated in another post I wish that Operation Nope and the Rocco debacle could have been switched in their timing. That way there wasn't the double dumping until day 11 or 12.

10. Jakub or Felix? 

Ugh that's a hard one. I guess Felix because I would just roast him all the time, and I feel confident I could beat him in a physical fight haha. Jakub would Hulk Smash me and that scares me.

11. Henrik or Lucas? 

Another hard one!! They are so different and bring different things to the table! Lucas brings that passion, and bad boy energy. He lowkey scares me a little haha I feel like he would smell my vulnerability and cowardly self from a mile away haha! But Henrik brings the fun dumbass energy like a big puppy! I guess I would choose Lucas, just because I would never be caught dead in the wilderness with Henrik... I like nature for a few hours haha then I want to be inside. “Try to take me camping and I will divorce you” was a direct quote I said to my husband at an early point in our marriage hahaha

12. Jo or Hope? 

Hope. I have never done a Noah route so we are always friends. I hate her relationship with Noah, and I think she is a terrible girlfriend, but she was always a good friend to me.

13. Lottie or Priya?

I actually love them both! I don't like all of the hypocrisy with Lottie, but she does have good character development (IMO) But I guess I will choose Priya just because of that. 

14. What originally drew you to your LI?

I have a type I like long and lanky funny guys who are nice. I am who I am... 🤷🏼‍♀️ Every girl growing up was like CHANNING TATUM!!! and I was like Matthew Gray Gubler and Eddie Redmayne! hahahha

15. Favourite LI of all time (both seasons)? 

Bobby, no surprises there, but I also love Jake! And if Tim had been an option I would have for sure gone for him haha.

16. Favourite scene/day?

I love the final date when Bobby asks you to be his girlfriend! Also the night before the final when we get to give our soppy speeches! I’m soft what can I say?

17. Who had the best character development? 

Lottie improved greatly throughout the game! But I don't love her with Gary. She was too possessive! That is not an attractive quality to me at all, and imagine if the roles had been reversed and a boy kissed a girl one time and then became a possessive mess? But as a friend she had great development.

18. One thing that irked you about the game? 

That MC never got to stand up for herself, and that she was dragged into so much unnecessary drama, that honestly wasn't even that interesting. Also the drama rarely ever had anything to do with MC directly! That was annoying. Also that they kept shoving down our throats that HOPE AND NOAH ARE THE GREATEST LOVE STORY EVER TOLD! BITCH WHERE?!?!?!? 👀👀👀

19. Season 1 reunion or Season 2 wedding? 

I actually never played the season1 reunion... I didn't have 40 gems lying around burning a hole in my pocket. Also I just didn't care that much haha. But I did enjoy the wedding, even though it was very generic.

20. Describe domestic life or a head-canon about/with your LI. 

I picture lots of baking, little kids running around our back yard while bobby and I chase them around. Putting the kids to sleep and curling up on the couch to watch movies and make out haha. Lots of laughter, happiness, and beautiful little babies! Also probably a lot of annoyance because I am a clean freak and its canon that Bobby is kind of a slob haha. That would probably be the only thing we fight about.
