Long time Tumblr enjoyer, first time poster.

Here is a chicken coop I have been building. In true goblin fashion it is 90% made from pallet wood and reclaimed materials aka trinkets from my travels. See list below for examples

Palletwood- taken from local shipping company

Nails- removed from mallet Pallet wood, bent back to shape

Windows: made from a scrap of acrylic found in the dumpster at work

Vertical posts: dug out of the creek behind my house

Cain link fence for the run: also dug out of the creek

Concrete pavers: also also dug out if the creek

These pictures are from various points in the process and trust me, I have taken loads more if anyone is interested… I’m still working on a more permanent run but hopefully that will be done soon. I’m glad to finally have the chickens in it!

We made a pallet compost bin!

It's constructed entirely from free pallets, hardware cloth (the metal mesh), a few hinges, and a leftover pull knob.

We wanted to use hardware cloth to keep critters out but allow the worms in. If you're looking to create a compost bin yourself, chicken wire is definitely cheaper, but note that the holes are larger.

Excitingly, this bin swings both ways: the top opens for easy dumping of compostable material, and then that weird squat door at the bottom of the front opens up to allow easy shoveling access to the sweet, sweet nutrient paste (once it's ready).

This isn't a how-to guide but the gist of it is you just nail/screw several pallets together and then pin the wire to the insides. Put hinges where you want things to move. Voila~

I'm very pleased with this project because it is a huge improvement to the plastic tumbling composter we were using before (lurking in the background of the last photo). Waaayy more volume, easier to access, and much sturdier. Planning to build another one of these so we can graduate the compost through its stages.
