--bren is caleb (dirtwizard sadboy), he was brainwashed and trained as an assassin as a youth by trent ikithon, a member of his home empire’s governing council. he “broke” during his training because trauma, and has been on the run, having changed his name to keep himself safe. of course, the second they make a ruckus in the empire, even if it’s for the good of the world, trent sees him, and is, of course, a huge motherfucker.----(it should be noted that the group is considered to be “heroes” in the nation        that the empire is at war with.)

--the group is... not necessarily in a safe place right now, but they are fully reunited, understood as politically useful by two major countries that are at war, and they’re in a space where they can reach out to one of their more (as an audience member, at least) trustworthy allies in essek thelyss, known commonly as “hotboi.” he is gay and he is funny and two members of the party rolled high insight checks on him and seemed to trust him afterwards, last time they spoke. he is also one of the few powerful people they know who has listened to them and supported them (mostly) in full.

--they levelled up and the clerics both are pretty beefed up, now, so that’s good, at least?
