1) fully outlined Kuroken fic???? SIGN ME UP. Do you wanna share any fun facts or anything at all about it? (no pressure at all, I am very nosy as per usual)
2) YES to the fic book club
Big love you, I’m booping your nose!!
HI JULES!!!! 💖✨💖
Oh my god yes please let's start this fic club. Anyone who wants to join please do!!! We can read hq fics and just wax poetic!!!!!
Now.
Kuroken
SO story time. earth and moon was supposed to be a brief and writing exercise (originally 5k, then 10-15k, then well...), as I worked on restructuring the plot for my Iwaoi College AU fic called The Twelve Year Fall.
What ended up happening was my little exercise devolved into a 73k monster with a Sakuatsu spin-off/sequel on the way.
The Twelve Year Fall (TYF), like the title insinuates, spanned twelve years, from when Iwaizumi and Oikawa first met to well into college. Alternating back and forth between both of their perspectives, it dealt with divorce, death, coming outs, relationships, identities, injuries, etc. It also heavily featured Kuroken, Bokuaka, and Daisuga with cameos from all other characters as well. (The restructure involved me actually removing Daisuga from the plot and giving their narrative function to Bokuaka, since it was getting too cluttered with characters)
All the above mentioned side pairings had distinct arcs of their own within TYF that either paralleled or served as a foil to Iwaoi. I ended up coming with individual fic ideas for each of them and outlining them all pretty extensively. I then put the timelines for all those fics next to each other and found moments where there'd be cross over between these future stories and the current Iwaoi fic I was writing. I then incorporated those moments into TYF.
I actually did something similar for earth and moon with Sakuatsu's story (which has a title but I just don't love it so it's under revision) and Arankita's. I charted out the major milestones in each of their relationships, general timelines, themes, and motifs that would then show up in the background of earth and moon, thus creating my own little universe I guess?
ANYWHO KUROKEN!
The Kuroken fic is titled DEATH TO ALL COWARDS. Narrated by Kenma, the story focuses on a promise Kuroo and Kenma make to each other as children (what can I say I'm a slut for coming-of-age, childhood friends to lovers, slow burn stories) and how it impacts their relationship over the years. The promise being that Kenma gets to die before Kuroo. It pulls from fairytales and videogame lore as the main theme, with Kenma slowly learning how to become the hero of his own story. I want to spoil the ending, but I hope one day to write this so I must bite my tongue. Let's just say the ending is very dramatic, but Kenma gets his moment
The Bokuaka fic is titled The Love Affair Between Icarus and Moon (TLABIAM). Narrated by Akaashi, the story follows Akaashi's life and his secret relationship with Bokuto. The major motifs/references in this piece were Greek mythology, astronomy (which works its way into almost all of my writing anyway), and the flower language. I'm actually planning of giving this story a bit of a backdoor pilot in Sakuatsu's story, as TLABIAM focused heavily on grief, with Akaashi losing his older brother at a young age. This was a big part of TYF, since one of Iwaoi's parents coping with cancer is a major, major plot point. It's also a big part of the Sakuatsu's story I'm writing.
(gee evie we're noticing a pattern)
The Daisuga fic was called Betwixt the Willows, Yarrow Still Blooms. It was going to involve the flower language, as well as another secret relationship concept that I scraped and gave to Bokuaka, who were originally a FWB situation.
ANYWHOOOOOOOOO!
I just massively rambled, but yes I have multiple fics outlined--a whole little universe actually--that I have not written but hope to one day!!

Note
5 & 9 for recipes for love and disaster? (i know it's a series but I couldn't choose lmfao) 💖💕
5. Did you make an outline for [title]? Did you stick to it?
It’s All in the Pairing - did not have an outline, it was a bare idea that I sat down and wrote in a day. The original concept was supposed to be Bokuto and Akaashi. Until I realized it would be so much more fun to write it as Kuroo and Kenma.
Going Off-Menu - Had a set plan and was more or less outlined before I sat down to write it. The NSFW chapter 2 was just for shits and giggles.
Table for Two - No outline, no plan, just sat down and said ok those two need to be smooching now.
Stressed is Desserts Spelled Backwards - has an outline and more notes than the rest of the fics since it’s the only one that had a plan and a set guideline.
9. Which idea came to you first in [title]?
It’s All in the Pairing was the original idea. I wanted to do a restaurant au, but had no idea how to even get started. I had been watching a lot of Gilmore Girls and I remember the episode where Sookie tracked down the food critic cause the wrong wine had been served with her risotto. I had a little laugh to myself and then it clicked. The rest of the fics have all been a result of that.
Once I had the first fic and the universe was settled everything else just happened. Every character who has been mentioned since the beginning has a place and in some cases a fully fleshed out backstory. So honestly there will be so much more of this cause I have yet to run out of ideas for it.

HAIKYUU!! COUPLES HEADCANONS
DAISUGA
-Daichi goes to the gym to work out. Suga goes to the gym to ogle Daichi
-Suga has a massive sweet tooth
-Daichi cooks, Suga cleans
-Suga is a little shit who is not above seducing Daichi in public. He can say the most lewd things without batting an eye while Daichi blushes furiously
-Daichi and Kuroo once hooked up at training camp. They do not talk about it
-Daichi is good friends with Michimiya and Kiyoko. Suga is closer to Asahi
-Daisuga rarely fight and are often asked for relationship advice. Daichi tries to discourage this because “guys I didn’t realize Yui had a crush on me or that Suga was in love with me for three years.”
-Daichi can’t dance, won’t dance, and refuses to acknowledge the time he got trashed and twerked
-Suga dislikes his given name unless it’s said by Daichi, who is the only person allowed to call him Koushi
-Suga is extremely flexible. Daichi is not.
-Daichi or Suga getting hit on makes Daichi uncomfortable. Getting hit on amuses Suga, and Daichi getting hit on makes him horny
-It took all of high school for Daisuga to get together, because Daichi is oblivious and Suga assumed Daichi wasn’t into him. Daichi’s dumbness and their mutual pining becomes a fond, shared joke several years later
-Daichi has no gag reflex.
-Daisuga have a very fat, very orange cat named Ninja. He’s surprisingly fast and agile despite looking like a furry basketball. (Daichi is a dog person and did not even want Ninja at first. He suspects Kuroo had something to do with this. Suga sometimes playfully gets upset because “Ninja likes you better than me, Dai!”)
-Everyone expects Suga to be the dominant one but Suga is more than willing to be submissive for Daichi and has on several occasions
ASANOYA
-Noya gets up before sunrise to run. Asahi would rather die than leave his bed before 8am
-Noya turns the coffee pot on and cooks breakfast to lure Asahi out of bed
-Noya is surprisingly patient, gentle, quiet, and kind when it comes to Asahi and his insecurities
-Noya is the type to bottle his insecurities and fears until they explode. The only one who can calm him back down is Asahi
-Asahi makes bratty faces when he thinks Noya isn’t looking
-Noya and Tanaka spend a lot of time with Daisuga because of the Daichi&Suga&Asahi&Kiyoko friendship. Asahi and Ennoshita become good friends
-Asahi doesn’t understand the distance between Noya and his sisters because Asahi is very close to his
-It is impossible to embarrass Noya
-Asahi gets a lot of inspiration for his fashion designs from traveling with Noya
-Noya knows how to braid hair and likes to play with Asahi’s
-Asahi enjoys physical affection but dislikes overt PDA. Noya would happily climb Asahi like a tree in public if Asahi would let him
-Only Asahi calls Noya by his given name
-Noya knows he likes Asahi early on but Asahi’s panic (“omg someone LIKES me?? NOYA likes me?? My crush??”) at his confession prevent them getting together until after the Date Tech match (after Asahi rejoins the team).
-Noya is affected by wanderlust and that’s why he travels. Sometimes Asahi joins him. They get married in Canada during one of these trips. (I once read a fantastic asanoya fic where a significant event happened in Canada so Canada is my asanoya place now)
-Noya sends Asahi a postcard from every place he’s ever visited. Sometimes he’ll spend over half an hour trying to find the *best* one, only to buy them all and send them as a sort of big long letter. Asahi saves them all in a photo album that lives on the coffee table. (Some people have a coffee table book, Asahi has a photo album.)
-Noya prefers to top. The one thing he’s really uncomfortable with is being on the bottom (physically laying beneath someone and also sex).
KUROKEN
-Kuroken have a black cat and a calico and enjoy naps on the couch with the kitties. Kuroo has SO MANY pictures in his phone of Kenma curled around the kitties.
-Kuroo: “Love you.” Kenma: “Hate you.”
-Kenma CAN cook, but likes that Kuroo likes taking care of him
-Every game Kuroo has ever owned is multiplayer because he only games with Kenma
-Kenma’s favorite games involve critical thinking and puzzles. Kuroo enjoys watching him play
-Kuroo is an introvert masquerading as an extrovert. Kenma is an introvert. They enjoy quiet nights in.
-Kuroo has anxiety. Kenma always knows when Kuroo is anxious and how to fix it
-People make Kenma anxious. Kuroo makes himself anxious.
-Kenma’s nicknames for Kuroo are Kuro and Koroemon. Kuroo calls Kenma Kyanma and kitten
-Kuroo has been in love with Kenma for as long as he can remember, since they were kids. Kenma knows this, but doesn’t understand he feels the same way until Kuroo goes off to college
-Kuroo is the one who discovered Daichi’s lack of gag reflex. He’s delighted to learn that Kenma lacks one as well
-Kenma moves more slowly than Kuroo. He’s not as comfortable with physical affection and sex as Kuroo is. Their relationship progresses slowly, and Kuroo lets Kenma lead.
-After Kenma’s confession, how he feels about Kuroo is one of the very few things Kuroo does not doubt or make himself anxious over.
-Kuroo can, will, and has go(ne) on and on and ON about Kenma until someone shuts him up. It drives Yaku up the fucking wall in high school.
-Kenma does a retro game stream once or twice a month made up of games he and Kuroo used to play as kids. Kuroo actually games with him on those days and Kenma’s followers are quick to notice and speculate because Kenma has literally never gamed with another person in the same room before. Sometimes Kenma can only post the actual gameplay because Kuroo ruined the footage of them by being excessively sappy. (Kuroo is NOT above flirting and dirty talk to get an edge and Kenma doesn’t really think his fans need to know that.)
-Kuroken do not talk about Kuroo’s mom or sister
-The Kozumes love “Tetsu-chan” and Kuroo’s grandparents adore Kenma. Kuroken get along with each others families better than they do their own.
-Kuroo is tactile. He’s that ass-slapping friend. Kenma thinks he’s ridiculous
-Kuroo used to be dislike Hinata, because Kenma and Hinata are extremely good friends and Kuroo was afraid Hinata would take Kenma away from him. Kenma has assured him he doesn’t like Hinata like that but Kuroo doesn’t warm up until Hinata starts dating Kageyama
BOKUAKA
-Akaashi is 100% in charge of the house and the financials and his word is law. Not because he’s an asshole but because Bokuto is whipped
-Akaashi is a screamer. Bokuto has a big dick.
-Bokuto is the calmest between him and his sisters. His sisters have formed an Akaashi fanclub
-Bokuaka kiss a lot during sex
-Bokuto fucking loves owls
-Akaashi used to be embarrassed over being a manga editor but Bokuto thinks it’s the coolest job ever, “even better than mine!” When his authors need references, Akaashi sends them pictures of Bokuto. Bokuto takes this responsibility very seriously
-Bokuaka exclusively refer to each other by first name but Akaashi can’t break the habit of using -san
-Akaashi and Kenma are very good friends. Bokuto thinks they might even be better bros than him and Kuroo. (Kenma is one of the few people Akaashi calls by first name, and one of the only people who calls Akaashi by his.)
-Akaashi overthinks as a result of anxiety, but he doesn’t think he has anxiety. He prefers to call it “seeing the issue from all sides”
-Akaashi and Bokuto do yoga together. Bokuto behaves himself surprisingly well around Akaashi in yoga pants
-Akaashi decided to attend Fukurodani after watching Bokuto play and literally for no other reason
-Bokuaka are the embodiment of love at first sight and their relationship has an unreal, almost storybook quality to it because they are literally perfect for each other. Because of this, Bokuto doesn’t understand why other people struggle so much to start and maintain a relationship, no matter how many times Kuroo tells him “just because your relationship is straight out of a movie doesn’t mean the rest of the world works like that”
-Bokuaka have a koi pond in their backyard and have named all the fish. Bokuto always asks about them when he’s away for games
IWAOI
-Iwaizumi cooks and cleans because he’s always been the one taking care of Oikawa, but he refuses to fold the laundry because “I’m not doing everything for you, you fucking freeloader”
-Iwaizumi cooks healthy “old man food.” Oikawa’s sweet tooth suffers
-Oikawa is that guy who puts more cream and sugar and other additives in his coffee than actual coffee. He’s tried all of Starbucks’ seasonal drinks and never gets the same thing twice
-Iwaoi have very heated arguments about if Godzilla can kick King Kong’s ass or not. Iwaizumi of course sides with Godzilla
-Iwaoi once fought about the original purpose of Stonehenge and now no one can mention England without it coming back up
-Oikawa only became comfortable with his glasses because Iwaizumi likes them
-Iwaoi have been friends since they were in diapers. The whole volleyball team took bets on when they’d announce their relationship
-Both the Oikawas and the Iwaizumis respond when either boy calls for mom or dad. Oikawa calls his sister Nee-chan while Iwaizumi says Oneesan
-Iwaizumi’s favorite of Oikawa’s features is his legs. Oikawa is in love with Iwa’s arms
-Neither of them can remember when they started liking each other or how their relationship started
-Iwaoi are shockingly codependent and do NOT do separation (during university in Argentina/California or for away games) well
-Deep down Oikawa is extremely insecure and worries he isn’t enough - in volleyball, in school, in his family, in his relationship. Iwaizumi always knows when he’s putting on a front and how to cheer him back up
-Iwaizumi is secretly so soft and weak for Oikawa
-After the Olympics Iwaizumi moves to Argentina to be with Oikawa and they get married. They move back to Japan after Oikawa retires from volleyball and after gay marriage becomes legal there
-Oikawa keeps various plants around the house and the patio and is extremely proud of them. He paints all their pots and even names some of them (which Iwaizumi thinks is disgustingly cute). His most prized plant is a lucky bamboo he bought on a whim when iwaoi first moved in together.
-Oikawa can’t deepthroat. It makes him so jealous that Iwaizumi can
-Iwaizumi blushes whenever Oikawa gives him a genuine compliment
-Iwaizumi has a praise kink. Oikawa has a “whatever comes out of Iwa’s mouth” kink
-Iwaizumi has dom tendencies.

haikyuu fic recs — the most beautiful, lovely, breathtaking masterlist (vol. I)
so i’ve been binging fics to cure my sadness, and i thought that these select masterpieces were too magnificent to not be plastered on every billboard ever. some tore my soul into shreds, while others melted said shreds back whole, but all of them made me feel some form of sheer, unadulterated love, so. please enjoy! 🥰⛅️✨
note: all of these fics are exquisite and you should read all of them, but if you’re short of time, those with ☆ are my all-time favourites!
daisuga
butterfly in the subway by bigspoonnoya ☆ | T
Sugawara Koushi has no idea he's already in love with the man he's supposed to hate.
i lovelovelove how all the concepts tied in together like a perfectly wrapped gift
also very wholesome, made me feel so inexplicably warm. like, love can exist everywhere!!! despite everything!!! that’s just so inspiring
i revisited this many times, i think it was (one of) my first haikyuu fics and honestly. it set the bar so high and i have no regrets
you’d fit my lonely arms so perfectly by boxofwonder ☆ | G
“Oh. You're. Not Asahi.”
Calmed down enough that he can speak again, Daichi takes a deep breath, his smile settling on his face easily and wide.
“Not as far as I know, no.”
-
Suga accidentally calls a stranger instead of his best friend, tells him all about his burned batch of cookies before realising, and that particular mistake might turn out the best one he ever made.
major, major fluff
the buildup!!!
god this made my yearning for love so much worse
the perfect stranger by downmoon | T
There’s a man standing outside Suga's door.
Scratch that. Start over.
There’s a man he doesn’t know standing outside his door, holding his sleeping nephew in one arm, with another kid clinging tightly to his free hand.
so domestic please read the entire series from start to finish it has my whole heart

Overworked, over-stressed programmer Azumane Asahi works on the top floor of a Shinjuku skyscraper. Nervous around his coworkers and terrified of the long drop on the other side of the window, Asahi falls into a miserable routine, only to have it broken one day by a simple message on the outside of the glass.
PLEASE. so well-written it makes my heart glow and ache simultaneously
made me ascend into asanoya heaven
such a brilliantly unique concept i love it A+

Asahi wants to be a Master Sommelier. It's the highest honor in wine service, and the certification would allow him to live the life he's always envisioned for himself. Too bad the certification test is notorious for being the world's most difficult.
Most people fail their first time taking the exam, and Asahi is no exception, but he has more difficulty than most dusting himself off and getting back on his feet. Enter Nishinoya, a young man who shares his same dream, and who believes in their goals so fiercely it forces Asahi to embark on a delicious and sensuous journey of viticulture and validation.
AKA The Wine Tasting AU that literally no one even knew to ask for.
NOTE: You Do Not Need to Know About Wine to Understand This Fic!
another super unique concept!!! (´∀`=)
my god their chemistry is amazing
the writing made me feel things ngl

“I never thought I’d see the day that I’d envy a human,” Oikawa admits, showering himself in tiny suns, because he can actually feels those, like a fusillade of warm kisses on luminous skin that leave marks. To humans, they’d be freckles. Skin stars, Oikawa calls them. He didn’t make that up, a human did.
“Who created the rule that we can’t touch, I wonder,” Iwaizumi ponders, floating heedlessly through space.
“Maybe it’s because we can fly. Humans dream of flying, right?”
“I don’t think so.”

Iwaizumi blinked his gaze over to Oikawa, "Last time was supposed to be a one time thing," he said, voice low, lacking some conviction.
Oikawa's lips twitched into a smirk and he brought them hovering just over Iwaizumi's, "One time thing, Two time thing, what's it matter as long as it's not a Relationship thing?"
yes.
in fact, this entire series (breaking the rules) features daisuga, kuroken, asanoya and it’s SO GOOD. every single one.
but anyway, character development!!!!! plot!!!!!!!!! writing!!!!!!!! i’m here for it all

Kei realizes in their second year of high school that he’s probably been in love with Yamaguchi since they were ten. However hopeless he might be in handling that situation, Kei prays he’s at least not as hopeless as Hinata and Kageyama. But he just might be.

In which Hinata's lack of cooking skills are a danger to him and others. Luckily (or not), Kageyama is willing to teach him, if only for the sake of avoiding any burned down apartments.
the essence of their characters were captured so well and yet it’s like they’re completely new characters too? author, whoever you are, you totally owned this
this made me ship kagehina so hard

ahhh here it is. beautiful, heartbreaking, soul-emptying agony. you want angst? choke on this, and your tears later on.

There’s a picture. Kenma blinks, looking at the little calico cat, being held up next to the face of a guy with stupidly messy hair and a crooked grin.
Cute.
The— the cat. The cat is cute.
Just the cat.
-
Kuroo starts spending a lot of time at the flower shop Kenma works at. Kenma definitely isn't into him.
okay so i like it when authors unravel a normally stoic character’s full scope of emotion and give them depth, sue me.
anyway, back on the fluff train!
i absolutely f*ck with flower symbolisms, cats and bitchy best friends who have dirt on each other. the layers of romance, friendship and everything in between is so prettily developed 10/10

In which Akaashi Keiji is an overworked accountant who stumbles upon Bokuto one night playing the piano in the lobby of his work. Bokuto is different, that much is obvious. this fic. this fic has my whole, broken, sobbing heart and laughing soul
gorgeous. breathtaking. magnificent.

Sleeping didn't come as easy as it used to. Bokuto knew this, and now Akaashi did, too.
The hospital AU that no body asked for, but that I took upon myself to write.
this is a famous fic that i doubt any seasoned haikyuu reader wouldn’t know, and RIGHTLY SO BECAUSE, the PAIN. the pain. the pain.
i could feel my lungs shrivel up and my chest cave in on itself. fatigue and rest are things i struggle with too so this whole story resonated with me from start to finish, and it broke me. in like, the best, most revitalising way
i would read this again but it still haunts me at night. i need to heal from the first time before i have the guts to try one more time HAHAHA 😆💔😭

Things get complicated when everything you thought you knew about a guy changes, and they get even more complicated when you actually start liking those changes.
That guy working with you AND becoming your neighbor? That's just a cherry on top of the cake of confusion.
this AU was refreshingly different, and amazingly so

“Raids are routine work,” Kyoutani tells to Yahaba before he can air the question. “Sometimes there is no sleep done until we accomplish something, say kill a certain ghoul. I guess they’re still going through the possibility that people in the accident are still alive huh?”
Yahaba quirks a smile, pushing his mask up his head.
“You’re alive.”
Kyoutani looks at him intently and all of the things that they’ve gone through for the past month seems to flash in his mind.
“Yes I am.”
i haven’t watched tokyo ghoul but i understood everything perfectly. such is the power of f*cking kickass writing

[bokuto/akaashi/kuroo/tuskishima]
The modelling world is full of hungry wolves, constantly clambering over the other, snarling and desperate. They fight, and they kill, trampling over anything in their path.
In this case, Akaashi fell in love with the wolves.
i did not expect this to be good, and it wasn’t. it was SPLENDID.
akaashi is so enamoured with them from the get go i love it
a tiny bit of angst that stabbed me in the heart, but the happy ending soothed it (thankfully, because if there wasn’t one i will sue)
characterisation, writing, plot development; everything is great. can you tell i’m running out of synonyms for ‘beautiful’

[bokuto/akaashi/kuroo/kenma]
In which Kenma is unapologetic and comfortable with who he is, Akaashi learns a lot about himself in a short period of time, Kuroo is wildly in love and an eternal survivor, and Bokuto remembers that love doesn't cure mental illness, but having a support system sure helps a lot.
Or, the one where 4 young men get together, and are helplessly, hopelessly, utterly in love despite everything.
e.e. cummings?? poetry??? f*ck yes
so beautiful. i’m so star-struck by this fic it’s simply stunning
there are no words to fully capture how worth your time and heart and mind reading this fic is so please. do yourself a favour, and fall in love with this fic with me

[bokuto/akaashi/kuroo]
Akaashi is at his wits end. He feels nothing. He's quickly crumbling as a human being. He wants nothing but sweet release of death. In his fourth year of college he drafts a plan for his suicide. He is to graduate, publish writing for others to be inspired by, and slip quietly away. Shortly after, he meets a dog walker named Bokuto who asks him out and Akaashi reluctantly agrees. Nothing matters anymore and he treats Bokuto like an obligation. Until he's not anymore.
TW: SUICIDE ATTEMPTS & DEPRESSION
this was... this gutted me entirely and filled my body with too many shades of agony
arguably one of the best haikyuu fics i’ve ever read
so beautiful in the most painful way fathomable; strongly recommend

haikyuu ship headcanons!!!
kagehina
• everyone is really confused when they get together but like not surprised?
• they’re constantly on eachother
• like when they’re alone they’re always cuddling or hinata is sitting on top of kageyama. when they’re in public hinata sits on kags lap or makes kags give him piggyback rides
• one time during a game kageyama yelled hinatas name and grabbed his shirt and everyone thought they were gonna fight but he just goes “nice kill!” and gives him a kiss before going back to playing
• they’re both the ceo’s of “my bf can beat your ass”
• stupid teenage boys, like they do things that are so awkward bc they’re still weird teenagers
• they share one braincell, always have, always will
• kageyama is actually really good with hinatas sister and won’t admit it but loves little kids, hinata finds it adorable
• “you’d be a great dad kageyama, we should have kids!” “...how would that work? i can’t get you pregnant...right???”
tsukkiyama
• everyone thinks that they’re dating before they start actually dating
• “oh yeah she really likes tsukishima but we know you’re dating him so” “i’m not though???”
• once they’ve let everyone know that they aren’t dating a bunch of girls start asking tsukishima out, he declines all of them
• they end up getting together like a month later, it only took that long bc yamaguchi was too nervous to make a move and tsukki didn’t think that yams liked him back
• tsukki’s not too crazy about pda so they don’t go any farther than holding hands when they walk home and quick kisses on the cheek once in a while
• when they’re alone is another story
• these boys have liked eachother since they were like 11 so they have a lot to make up for
• one time akiteru walked in on them in the middle of them making up, shirts off, yams hands down tsukki’s pants and screamed
• tsukki refused to eat dinner if his brother was there for like a week
• since they’re so anti-pda whenever hinata, noya, or tanaka catches them doing anything they don’t stop mentioning it for the rest of the day
• they definitely get married when they’re 20 and don’t tell anyone
daisuga
• started dating in their second year
• after they started dating noya kept calling them mom and dad and it stuck
• “i’m not your dad”
• “you can’t call me mom if you don’t listen to me when i put you in time out”
• suga gets daichi a “kiss the cook” apron
• whenever they kiss in front of the team someone always yells “ewww mom and dad are kissing!!”
• once hinata and noya we’re doing somthing stupid and suga said that he’d record it for them. tsukki was extra annoyed at hinata that week so he showed daichi and they got in trouble. suga is like trying not to laugh and daichi just like “babe, did you know about this” and suga just activated his puppy dog eyes and is like “no! i can’t believe they’d do that
• daichi always says no when the rest of the team wants to do somthing stupid and suga just gives them the thumbs up behind his back
• they’re just really cute and have such a mom/dad dynamic
iwaoi
• girls constantly flirt with oikawa and he’s just like “sorry ladies, i’m taken”
• everyone’s trying to figure out who the lucky girl is untill one day oikawa goes “hey baby!” and runs over to iwaizumi and gives him a kiss
• “we shouldn’t known, pretty boys like that always end up being gay”
• oikawa swears that iwaizumi is nice to him when they’re alone
• iwa can go from “shittykawa can you shut the fuck up?!” to “hey honey, you know you’re really cute when you do that” and vise versa, real quick
• “iwa-chan, let me sit on your lap!” “no” “baby pleaseee” “that’s not going to work” “pleaseeee” “get your hand off of my dick, we’re in public asshole”
• after they lose to karasuno, iwa makes oikawa sleep over at his house bc hes been crying all day
• iwaizumi has to excuse himself to the bathroom to cry bc he doesn’t want oikawa to see him cry
• they really do care about eachother a lot even though iwaizumi doesn’t show it often
• oikawa refers to iwa as his boyfriend and he’s like “shut up you’re so annoying” but still ends up blushing
bokuaka
• these boys are in l o v e
• you know in coming of age movies when there’s always that one couple that everyone admires? that’s them, minus the problems that those couples always have
• a month after they started dating bokuto tells kuroo “i’m gonna marry him” and kuroo says that he doesn’t doubt it
• whenever bokuto gets into a mood he always asks to talk to akaashi
• everyone is in love with akaashi and while bokuto is jealous he doesn’t blame them
• “there’s so many other people as school that you could date! you deserve someone like them...why don’t you like any of them?” “because bokuto-san, they’re not you...i love you and you only” “...akaashi, i’m gonna cry!!!i love you too!!”
• bokuto always has a hand on akaashi’s waist (sometimes his ass when he wants to be annoying)
• bokuto refuses to leave until akaashi kisses him goodbye
• “bokuto-san, you’re gonna be late for class” “pleaseeeeee just a kiss on the cheek” “go to class, love. there’s people around and i don’t want to bother them”
kuroken
• they don’t really know when they started dating, it just kinda happened?
• like one day someone was like “are you too dating?” and they were like “huh, i guess so”
• “kuroo, i love you...but not as much as animal crossing. leave me alone” kuroo desides to buy him stuff for his gaming set up in hopes of winning him over. it works.
• they’ve been friends for so long that getting into a relationship was hard but also easy. they didn’t want to ruin anything but also they already had the bond.
• when they’re older and kenma is a youtuber or whatever kuroo makes an appearance once and all the comments are thirsting over him and he’s just like “oh, that’s my boyfriend. you probably won’t see him much but yeah” and everyone’s like ??????boyfriend???? but ends up loving them and they always ask to see more of kuroo

New Beginnings - Rejection
A/N: This had nothing to do with the story but have you listened to Nickleback’s Rockstar Sea Shanty? It’s kind of a bop tbh.
Warnings: Swearing? That’s to be expected from me tbh.
Word count: 1.7k
Masterlist
You woke up the next morning with the blinds being torn open and three boys shouting. You sat up and groaned as you covered your face. “Shut up I have a headache.” You said as they all laughed at you. The pounding in your head only seemed to get louder as they started talking. You opened one eye as someone nudged you and you saw a glass of water and some headache meds, you let out a thank you as you downed them both.
“You may have a headache but you also have work in an hour.” As Suga finished his sentence you shot out of bed, regretting the action immediately. You glanced at the clock on the wall before going into the bathroom and hurriedly changing into your work clothes.
As you entered the kitchen you saw Saeko cooking lunch. “How the hell do you not have a pounding headache, I recall you drinking just as much as me.” You asked as you sat in the empty spot at the table, squinting at the bright lights. You heard her laugh and mention something about being a lightweight as she set a plate of food in front of you. You scoffed and quickly started scarfing down the greasy breakfast.
“Why don’t you slow down before we’re making a field trip to the er.” You shook your head at Saeko’s words, and Suga mentioned how you had to work soon and you were walking. “Why didn’t you just say so dummy. I can just give you a ride so calm down.” You slowly nodded and finished chewing your food before saying a thank you.
You all finished eating and piled into Saeko’s car so she could drop everyone off at their respective places. As you got into the passenger seat she handed you a pair of sunglasses seeing the way you squinted at the bright sun, “Honestly Y/n, why don’t you just call off work. You look like shit and you can barely keep your eye open because of how bright it is. Lord knows what the fluorescent lights are gonna be like on your eyes.”
You shrugged and winced as she hit a bump in the road, “There isn’t anyone to cover my shift, I think Ukai leaves early and then it’s just me closing. Besides it shouldn’t be that busy and maybe he’ll just let me sit behind the counter and wallow in self pity.” Saeko laughed at your statement as she pulled to a stop. You said your goodbye to everyone as you exited the vehicle.
You mindlessly walked in and clocked in before you went into the back area to set your stuff down and put your apron on. Upon walking back out to the front you saw Ukai finishing up putting out the rest of the freight you got in. “You probably have a hangover, so you can just sit back all day if you want.” You gave him a look of confusion, how did he know you were drinking last night? “You don’t remember do you?” You shook your head and he let out a soundless laugh, “That’s alright, just sit at the counter and ring people up, it’ll be fine for today.”
“Uh thanks, I guess.” You sat down at the counter. You were thankful that Saeko let you keep her sunglasses for the day because she was right the lights are super fuckin bright. “So uh, I’m scared to ask, but what did I do last night? I mean how did you know I was drinking?” You decided to break the silence in the room after a half an hour of no talking.
He walked over and sat on the second stool beside the counter before talking, “You sent me some lovely texts last night. Full of gibberish, can’t even understand what you’re trying to say in them.” He laughed as you put your head in your hands and groaned. You let out a muffled sorry and it just made him laugh harder than before. “What were you even doing last night? Were you at a bar?”
Flashbacks to you and Saeko talking about your crush on the person sitting in front of you played in your mind. You felt your face grow hotter before speaking, “No I was at Tanaka’s house hanging out with his older sister. She had alcohol so of course we drank it. I guess we drank a little too much huh?”
After three hours of talking Ukai looked at the time on his phone and got up saying it was time for him to go and walked into the back, presumably to leave for the night. You assumed he had errands to run. As he left to the back you got out your phone to see what exactly you texted Ukai. Upon reading the texts you realized that he probably could tell what you were saying and just chose to ignore it for your sake. You were extremely grateful for that. You glanced up as you heard him come back out a while later. You took in his nice appearance, “Where are you going so dressed up?” You asked out of curiosity.
He avoided eye contact as he rubbed the back of his neck, “I uh, have a date in a little bit, I’m about to go pick her up.” You felt your heart break a little bit with his words. You smiled brightly at him and told him to have fun. You waved as he walked out of the shop and you deflated. Obviously he would like you back, you were just someone he worked with who had a small schoolgirl crush on him. He could clearly decipher your texts last night so he knows you like him or at least find him attractive, so you took this as rejection.
The last few hours of your shift went slow, but before you knew it you were home. You let out a sigh as you plopped down on the couch next to Suga. “Why do guys suck. Also why are you here? No offense.”
Suga laughed as you leaned against him, “I don’t know why guys suck. To answer your question though I just got back from a date with your brother. Why do you say guys suck?” You whipped away from him as you turned to where your brother was frozen in the doorway. He slowly started to turn around to go back to where he came from before you jumped up and grabbed his arm. You walked back to the couch where you forced him to sit a spot away from Suga.
“You guys finally went on a date?!” They both nodded as they blushed and looked away from each other. “Are you together now?” They shrugged as they shyly made eye contact, having a silent conversation. You narrowed your eyes as they started to gesture and mouth words to each other before Suga looked at you and let out a firm “yes”. “Okay now that you guys are officially dating I need to have the talk with you,” as they both let out noises of disgust and protests you sighed, “not that talk. My god you guys are nearly in college I would hope you know about that talk. If you don’t, just google it. Anyway! Daichi if you hurt Suga I’m kicking your ass. Suga if you hurt Daichi, well he can handle it himself. Although I’m sure you won’t hurt each other. Now that that’s done, get out of my face. I’m very happy for the both of you. I was rooting for DaiSuga but I don’t want to be near a couple right now. I’m pretty sure I was just rejected, so.”
Daichi raised his hand before speaking, “I have multiple questions.” Suga put his hand down before telling him “not now” as he stood up and ushered you to your room leaving your brother very confused and slightly hurt that his boyfriend just ditched him for his sister.
“What happened? What do you mean you’re pretty sure you were just rejected?” Suga asked as he closed the door to your room and sat down next to you on your bed. You handed him your phone with it open on the texts you sent to Ukai last night. “Oh honey, who let you drunk text last night? He didn’t say anything though, so how was this him rejecting you?”
You took back your phone and closed it as you plugged it in, “You dumbass, why didn’t you take my phone as the alcohol was being poured.” He shrugged and let out a small sorry before you continued, “And that wasn’t the rejection. The rejection was when I went to work today and he told me he couldn’t understand it when you clearly can and then he went on a date. So clearly he doesn’t like me back if he’s going on dates.”
Suga hummed in thought, “Maybe the date was already planned and he felt bad cancelling. Or he lied to see how you’d react. Maybe he wants to see if what you said last night was true or if it was just you being drunk.”
You let out a sound of agreement, “Yeah but I feel like he would just ask, he’s not the kind of person to beat around the bush and drop subtle hints at what he wants. Whatever, either way I don’t wanna talk about it tonight. So when did you and my brother agree to go on this date?” You asked with a small smile.
He sighed dramatically as he fell over, “Noya and Tanaka talked me into it last night. While you guys were drinking in the living room they convinced me to call Daichi and ask him out. It was so embarrassing.”
It was your turn to laugh as he covered his face as it turned red. “Regardless of how it happened I’m glad it did. Now I don’t have to hear your guy’s pathetic excuses for flirting or you guys both gush about the other person. I was getting tired of pretending like the sexual tension wasn’t suffocating every time we were in the same room.” You both laughed as Suga began hitting you with a pillow telling you to shut up.

the pretty (pining) setters squad - bloodyhalefire
(haikyuu!!; multiple relationships; chatfic; setter-centric; 36k words; ongoing)
oikawa: I HAVE NO FEAR
suga: straight iwaizumi
oikawa: I HAVE ONE FEAR
said you’re coming back home, boy, don't feel so alone - jublis
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; kageyama-centric; 9k words) MANGA SPOILERS
The ball rolls gently on the ground, all the way to Tobio’s feet. He bends down to pick it up, and something in his blood sizzles like lightning. He looks at the leathery surface, then at his sister’s wild smile and neat hair; looks back at the court and the net, where the boys are running a spiking practice. Everyone else seems focused on the attackers, but Tobio’s eyes are zeroed on the one tossing. Set, connect, spike. Bang-bang-bang.
No one wins without the setter.
Tobio tosses the ball to Miwa and says, “Again.”
Or, Kageyama Tobio grows up, older, and not that much wiser at all. Featuring brothers and sisters, anger, connection, and that moment when someone finally catches up with you.
My Best Friend is a 9 Year-Old - CO32minus
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; gen; kagehina-centric; 48k words) MANGA SPOILERS
Kageyama didn't expect to become friends with Hinata nearly as fast as he did. He expected becoming best friends with Hinata's sister even less. But over the course of his high school career, the two of them grow closer than any friend Kageyama has had in a long time. A long time.
[my bookmarks: beautiful. a masterpiece. i have been rendered... speechless. it's poignant and painful and heartbreaking.
explores the relationships between tobio and a variety of people in a unique way. an emotional, tearful rollercoaster all the way through.]
you who appeared before my eyes like a miracle - vivahate
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; kageyama-centric; hurt/comfort; 2k words) MANGA SPOILERS
Everything I told you last night,” Kageyama says at last and he sounds so awful, so defensive: he keeps trying to pull away, and Hinata can tell he’s come to all the wrong conclusions. “I told you because I wanted to. There’s nothing more to it. I don’t need your -”
“It’s not pity!” Hinata hisses, tightening his hold on Kageyama’s hands. “Or whatever else you’re thinking.” Hinata releases another quivering breath against Tobio’s neck, the setter going completely still in his arms. It’s important that Tobio understands. “It breaks my heart knowing that the boy I love was hurting and I didn’t even –” he breaks off with a sound of frustration, “I could’ve done something to make it at least a little better for you.”
(or; Kageyama tells Hinata about Kazuyo san after the Black Jackals/Adlers game, and Hinata processes.)
cats and other challenges - vivahate (they have such good fics!)
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; hurt/comfort; 6k words) MANGA SPOILERS
“Was that Hime?” Miwa asks over the phone, having apparently heard that pathetic yowl.
“No.” Tobio grunts, “It’s a different cat I picked up from the garbage on my way home.” On the other end of the line Miwa laughs gleefully, probably thinking he’s joking.
He’s not.
(Or; Sometime in the year following the Olympics, Tobio finds himself adopting a cat. And then three more. Hinata doesn't mind.)
etymology - tothemoon
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; coming of age; 3k words) MANGA SPOILERS
Kageyama Tobio has a language all his own.
[my bookmarks: holy shit this is pure poetry. beauty. breathtaking. <3]
and if you asked me if i love him (i'd lie) - fakecharliebrown
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; kagehina-centric; humor; falling in love; au; 13k words)
“Okay, what the fuck,” Tobio said, upon seeing the source of the commotion in his kitchen. There, standing in front of his open window—when had he opened that?—was a guy probably several years younger than Tobio, a high schooler most likely, with bright, orange hair. He was soaked to the bone, dripping rainwater all over Tobio’s kitchen floor like he was trying to fill a new lake.
The boy looked up, wide-eyed, and blurted, “This isn’t my apartment.”
or; Hinata accidentally breaks into Kageyama’s apartment, starts a fire, and is deeply offended that Kageyama eats lettuce. It all seems to unravel from there.
burn - orphan_account
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; kagehina-centric; au; 3k words)
Kageyama Tobio had always had the odd ability to see the numbers signalling how dangerous a person was. He'd gone through his childhood surrounded by Twos and Threes, maybe even Fours. And then he meets his Ten.
~~~~~~~~~~
The flame seemed to burn ever so bright, as Kageyama felt the air around the other basically crackle. He felt as if he was Icarus and Hinata was the Sun. Two wings to hold him up, a fiery heat to burn him down.
Don't get too close, or you'll melt.
6/10 - CheekyBrunette
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; kageyama-centric; social anxiety; 19k words)
Hinata babbled on. “Natsu’s just so annoying sometimes. Everyone comes over and is like, ‘But oh, she’s so cute!’ and, well... yeah, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t like pushing all my buttons, you know? I mean, this is the third time she stole my blue furoshiki, so I had to wrap my bento with her stupid cat one!”
Kageyama’s hands knotted up in the bottom hem of his shorts. “Little sisters are the worst,” he tried.
Hinata’s nose scrunched up, and Kageyama’s stomach threatened to tie itself in knots. That had been the wrong thing to say. “Well, she’s not the worst,” Hinata corrected. Kageyama felt stupid for speaking up.
Fixation - @radio-silents
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; kagehina-centric; 7k words)
Hinata can’t stand Kageyama.
He can’t stand Kageyama’s stupid grumpy face, he can’t stand his stupid hair, and most of all he can’t stand how stupidly good Kageyama is at volleyball.
Alternatively, where Hinata spends a lot of time being frustrated and confused about his conflicting emotions toward Kageyama.
Summer Days, Flying By - @anawriteshorror
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; kageyama-centric; abuse au; angst; 11k words)
“Ne, Tobio.” Shouyou asked him one afternoon, smile relaxed on his face as he spread his fingers, splaying shadows on the walls. “Have you ever wondered what it’s like to fly?”
He shook his head. Flying meant going outside, and even imagining it made him tense up. He was already breaking enough rules as it was; no need to stir up his mind more than he already had.
Shouyou looked a little sad at that. “Well, I have.” His eyes went to the sky, like he could see himself soaring at that very moment. “You should imagine it, just once.”
The facts that make up his world are this: his name is Kageyama Tobio, he's ten years old, and he's never been outside his house.
Until he met Shouyou.
well, maybe i'm a crook - aruariandance
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; kageyama-centric; angst; 6k words)
The thing is-- Hinata is in love with Kageyama and everyone knows it, including Kageyama.
[my bookmarks: i'm cryignd i can't-]
discovering the smile of one kageyama tobio - Emlee_J (also a great fic writer - check out her other fics they’re all equally as good)
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; falling in love; 3rd year au; 8k words)
Kageyama blinks once before a grin of his own spreads over his face. Shouyou’s breath halts in his lungs at the sight, and he wills for time to stop, just so he can drink it in. He sees it sometimes, when they’re playing - Kageyama’s fierce smile when they pull a combo off just right, when they show their opponents how possible the impossible can really be. But then there’s another serve, another rally, and the moment is gone.
'Shame', Shouyou thinks to himself, as he lets his eyes roam over Kageyama’s stupidly happy face, taking in the creases that are from joy rather than frowning, for a change. 'It’s a really nice smile.'
-
In which it's their third, and final, year in high school and Hinata has only one goal: to make Kageyama smile outside of volleyball.
Wedding Tosses - its_tabby_cat
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; wedding; fluff/humor; 4k words) MILD MANGA SPOILERS
Based on the post I can't find anymore about Hinata and Kageyama spiking their wedding bouquet during the bouquet toss in their wedding.
Hinata and Kageyama's wedding is unique in their friends and guests' memories for one very specific reason. Natsu and Miwa wish they could say they saw this coming when they organised a bouquet toss as part of their brothers' wedding, but they didn't. They should have, though.
Hinata and Kageyama have no regrets. Neither do any of their guests (Except maybe Tsukishima).
gonna stand by you - meregalaxiesandgods
(haikyuu!!; gen; 3rd year au; kageyama-centric; 5k words)
Five times Kageyama defended his teammates, and one time they defended him.
baby, i can give you wings - Metis_Ink
(haikyuu!!; kagehina/daisuga; superpower au; humor/romance; 8k words)
In which there are superpowers, cats, rainstorms, realizations, split-second jealousy, embarrassing volleyparents, killer whales, electric Kuroos, unstable emotions, bad romance movie mentions, some angst, some fluff, but mostly a lot of awkward high schoolers.
-
The minute Kageyama walks into the gym and sees Hinata hovering eight feet over the nets he knows he’s screwed.
if it wasn't for you - diphylleias
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; gen; getting together; 13k words) MANGA SPOILERS
A long moment passes between them, and Hinata watches, starstruck, as Heitor’s eyes linger on Nice’s silhouette from across the venue. His voice is deep, rich, all encompassing. “Some people change your life just by being in it, and you don’t want to let that go.”
Huh, Hinata thinks grandly.
[my bookmarks: This is majestic. Im now gonna proceed to scream internally about my kagehina feels for the next few hours.]
kintsugi - horchata
(haikyuu!!; gen; magical realism; kageyama-centric; 4k words)
Tobio notices when people get hurt. Something inside him hums to fix it.
The first time’s for Iwaizumi-san.
i bear little resemblance to the king i could become - silpium
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; gen; kageyama-centric; found family; 1k words)
Something else that’s infuriating about Hinata: he doesn’t question much. He never questions how Kageyama never smiles. He never questions why Kageyama doesn’t seem to have any friends. He never questions why Kageyama doesn’t talk much about himself, or talk much at all. He’ll make fun of these things sometimes, sure, but there’s never a probing question lingering beneath it. He seems to know there are just some things about Kageyama that are the way they are and that won’t change.
Or: sometimes people find their homes later in life.
Saffron and Cayenne Pepper - dontsaycrazy
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; gen; falling in love; cooking au; 30k words)
Cooking is hard. Even if you have your very attractive, very grumpy neighbor there to help you.
In which Hinata's lack of cooking skills are a danger to him and others. Luckily (or not), Kageyama is willing to teach him, if only for the sake of avoiding any burned down apartments.
halcyon - @queenanimetrash
(haikyuu!!; kagehina; gen; depression; falling in love; hurt/comfort; 11k words)
"...And Kageyama cried. There was no rhyme or reason to it. There was no reason for all of the things he was feeling. Depression was weird like that, the lady in the pantsuit told him. Both your deaths in this universe have failed. “Failed…” Kageyama echoes. The word seems to hurt him. “How can you fail at dying?” Hinata asks, incredulous. Luckily you have an infinite selection of universes, with an extensive number of lifetimes, still remaining. Until you can save one another, you will never grow old.
Ah. For all of the appliances Shouto had been, a blowtorch was new. Still, just to prompt and bother: "So...?"
Izuku is five years old the first time he's saved by heroes. He's an instant fan of the woman in pink with her cheerful smile and the man with his ice powers and fine-boned features, even if they both refuse to tell him their names.
For most of his life, Izuku has been the centre of villain attacks, but he has never been injured. Every time, he's saved by bright, unknown heroes—heroes who smile at Izuku, and ruffle his hair or ply him with hugs, and seem mesmerised by how small he is.
Katara makes a face, like she’s not quite sure if she should laugh or frown, when Toph speaks up.
“You have a scar on your face?” Toph asks, sitting up so she’s sitting by his legs rather than lying on them.
Zuko blinks. He never quite forgets that Toph is blind, but the fact that she can’t see his scar never really occurred to him.
When Zuko's midlife crisis is just his life replayed for a second time, it tests not just his patience, but also whether it's truly Azula that's the murderous sibling out of the two. Because Zuko might be a mentally matured sixteen-year-old with his own handful of daddy issues, but he is this close to throwing hands at his eleven-year-old baby sister out in their courtyard.
Or: upon being hit by Azula's lightning in the last battle, Zuko finds himself back in time to when his father just branded half of his face. He also finds himself facing his younger sister, eleven and not a murderer, and through his own mixture of overwhelming pity and resentment for her, realizes he could possibly save not just all the people she killed- but herself as well.
In other words: Zuko wants to make things right for Azula (who was never given a chance by anyone), so he essentially drags her along with him on his life-changing field trip as a tired nanny.
salt air and the rust on your door
I never needed anything more
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Looking back, Koushi should have seen the signs.
**✿❀ ❀✿**
When they met in first year, the first thing that Koushi had noticed had been Daichi's warm smile. It was reassuring and steadfast, like someone reaching out and telling Koushi "I'm here." And when they stood together on court, Koushi felt invincible, because Daichi was there, a silent pillar that pushed him up, up, upwards.
It was all too easy to fall. Daichi was reassuring, always there, attractive, kind, and before Koushi knew it, he was in love.
He kept it to himself at first, of course. Koushi didn't even know if Daichi swung his way. And, well, he was just... scared. Scared to lose the friendship they had built. Scared to lose their dynamic on the court. Scared to, ultimately, lose Daichi.
whispers of "are you sure?"
"never have i ever before"
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Looking back, Koushi should have never dived off that cliff.
**✿❀ ❀✿**
During summer break in their third year, after they had beat Shiratorizawa and were preparing to go to Nationals, Koushi dropped by Daichi's house often. It was natural, of course. They were "best friends", after all, even though one was hopelessly in love with the other.
Longing stares became lingering touches became staying over became-
"I really like you, Daichi."
"Mmhm."
A soft, tentative kiss.
"Are you sure about this, Suga?"
"Yes, Daichi. Stop being such a worrywart."
Foreheads pressed together.
"I'm sure about you."
Soft, soft enough that Koushi's ears don't pick up on it, "But I'm not sure about you."
but I can see us lost in the memory
august slipped away into a moment in time
'cause it was never mine
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Looking back, Koushi should have let go.
**✿❀ ❀✿**
They were happy together. It was like being best friends, but with kisses and cuddles and more. Koushi didn't know when he had ever been this happy. The memories were like gilded gold to him, things he never wanted to let go of. He was giddy every time he remembered that Daichi's soft smiles, fond in their demeanor, were for him.
Even if his eyes were a little distant at times.
and I can see us twisted in bedsheets
august sipped away like a bottle of wine
'cause you were never mine
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Looking back, Koushi should have known better.
**✿❀ ❀✿**
One night, when they were curled up together in Daichi's bedroom, AC whirring and a few cans of cheap beer left forgotten and discarded by Daichi's bed, sated and content, Koushi's tongue slipped.
"I love you, Daichi."
A sleepy murmur.
He didn't feel the man against his back stiffening.
"O-Oh, okay, Suga."
Even after all that they had done, he was still Suga, never Koushi.
Daichi was probably just shy.
If he had known that this would be the beginning of the end, Koushi would have never let himself be so careless.
your back, beneath the sun
wishing I could write my name on it
will you call when you’re back at school?
I remember thinking I had you
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Looking back, Koushi should have been more careful.
**✿❀ ❀✿**
When they returned to school, Daichi acted like everything was like it had been before summer break. Koushi was confused, but it was surely only Daichi trying to protect them. They still lived in the Japanese countryside, after all.
And it wasn’t as if Daichi stopped seeing him or anything! It was just… less time together. But they were third years trying to win Nationals, it was natural for this to happen.
but I can see us lost in the memory
august slipped away into a moment in time
‘cause it was never mine
and I can see us twisted in bedsheets
august sipped away like a bottle of wine
‘cause you were never mine
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Looking back, Koushi should have stood up for himself.
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Quick makeout sessions in the clubroom, some heavy petting, a brush of pinkies against each other in the hallway - that was all that Koushi had left of the Daichi he had known in the summer.
A soft smile.
Undivided attention.
A warm embrace.
Oh, how he longed for them now.
back when we were still changing for the better
wanting was enough
for me it was enough
to live for the hope of it all
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Looking back, Koushi should have run.
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Daichi was pulling away, but Koushi convinced himself that he wasn't. Sure, in the deepest, darkest parts of him, he knew that he was losing the dark-haired man, but Koushi forced himself to stay in the moment. Daichi was probably just stressed out from studying and the responsibility of being a captain, right?
After all, Koushi loved Daichi, and Daichi… well, even if Daichi didn’t exactly love him yet, he still cared for him. Deeply.
Right?
cancel plans just in case you’d call
and say “meet me behind the mall”
so much for summer love and saying “us”
‘cause you weren’t mine to lose
you weren’t mine to lose
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Looking back, Koushi should have seen the warning signs.
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Koushi sat on the bench, fingers anxiously drumming on his thigh. He was in the park behind the mall they went to every Saturday together to get food and window shop. (Well, Koushi shopped, Daichi gave opinions.) Where was Daichi? Koushi had flaked on a family outing with his cousins who were visiting from Kanto so that they could spend time together, but Daichi was nowhere to be found.
Koushi checked his phone again. It was already 1PM, and his last sent text, left on read at 11:30AM, glared back at him.
Slowly, Koushi picked himself up from his seat. It was fine, something had probably just come up.
Three hours later, his phone pinged. Koushi lunged for the device, nearly knocking his desk lamp over.
Daichi 💗: hey suga, sorry for not making it.
No explanation, just a halfhearted apology.
Koushi set his phone back down.
but I can see us lost in the memory
august slipped away into a moment in time
‘cause it was never mine
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Looking back, Koushi should have never left his house that day.
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Koushi skipped up Daichi’s driveway, intent on spending some time with him that afternoon. He knocked twice, face lighting up when Daichi opened the door, looking adorable in his casual clothes.
“O-oh, uh, Suga - what do you need?” He seemed nervous.
Koushi frowned. “Daichi, I sent you a text half an hour ago saying I was coming over. Did you not get it?”
“Oh, yeah - I-” Daichi mumbled.
Someone came up behind him, slinging an arm over his shoulders. It was the rooster-headed captain from Nekoma. Koushi’s frown deepened. Why was he here and why was he touching Daichi like that?
“Oh! Vice captain-san! Daichi didn’t mention you would be coming over!” he greeted.
Koushi’s heart stuttered. Of course. It all made sense. The stares that went on for a little too long, the lingering handshakes, the too-friendly competition. The only thing he was still confused about was where he fit into the entire thing. He bowed stiffly. “Kuroo-san. Um, Daichi…” he turned to him. “Can I talk with you for a bit?”
Daichi nodded, and he turned to Kuroo. “Just keep playing the movie, I’ll be back soon.”
He followed Koushi down the road, silence falling between the two who had always had something to laugh about together.
Koushi licked his lips nervously. “D-Did we ever mean anything?” he asked softly.
Daichi sighed. “We never were something, Suga.”
“W-what?” Koushi couldn’t find it himself to say anything else.
Daichi exhaled, long and low. “Suga, we were a fun distraction,” hairline fractures in his heart, “for a bit, but it was never something serious.”
Chips began flaking off.
“B-but I love you!” Emphatic and frantic, trying to make Daichi understand.
Another sigh, this one a little frustrated. “I don’t know what this is, but it isn’t love, Suga. You need to open your eyes.”
Koushi stopped in the middle of the road.
“So this is it, huh?” he said, his heart finally breaking into shattered fragments.
“Yeah. Now, if you’ll excuse me…” and with that, Daichi walked away.
The flowers came that night, red and pink, like the blood that stained them.
and I can see us twisted in bedsheets
august sipped away like a bottle of wine
‘cause you were never mine
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Looking back, Koushi should have guarded his heart better.
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Koushi deteriorated fast.
Within a week, he could no longer play volleyball.
Within two, his mother had found out.
Within two and a half, he had refused the surgery, a legal adult now.
Koushi would not lose his ability to love, even if it killed him.
Within a month, he was in the hospital.
but do you remember?
remember when I pulled up and said "get in the car"
and then canceled my plans just in case you'd call?
back when I was living for the hope of it all, for the hope of it all
"meet me behind the mall"
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Looking back, Koushi’s last days were placid.
**✿❀ ❀✿**
The memories were painful to look back on, of course. But at the same time, Koushi recalled their moments together fondly. Even if it had ended in an inferno with his heart as collateral damage, his time with Daichi had also been the warmest sunlight.
He knew he was going to die. Everyone around him was confused as to why he didn’t just let them cut out the roots in his lungs, and along with them his ability to love, but they didn’t know what it felt like to be in love, rushing down the path, breathless, overjoyed, free.
Koushi would die before he let that feeling slip away from him, bittersweet as it was.
His flowers were poppies and peonies. Death, love and honor, he mused. Fitting, for his and Daichi’s story. Death was imminent, love was unrequited, and Daichi had turned out to be a man of dishonor, abandoning him.
Koushi supposed that Daichi would get what he “deserved” one day, too, even though his heart hurt for the man, still caring about the brunette even though he had stomped on his heart. He’d noticed how Kuroo looked at Nekoma’s setter, and he knew that like him, Daichi would only ever be a replacement.
It was heartbreakingly intriguing how fate came around back to itself.
remember when I pulled up and said "get in the car"
and then canceled my plans just in case you'd call?
back when I was living for the hope of it all
for the hope of it all
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Looking back, Koushi still had something to say.
**✿❀ ❀✿**
The steady beeping of the heart monitor was interrupted as the sound of the opening of his hospital door filled the room.
Daichi stepped through, and the fragments of Koushi’s heart skipped a little.
“Suga.” he greeted, seemingly uncomfortable. After all, what were you supposed to say to your ex-nothing who you were currently killing slowly, even if it was involuntary?
“Daichi.”
“U-um… How have you been?” he asked.
“As well as can be expected, I suppose.” Koushi replied wearily. Breathing had become a labor in and of itself, and he was having oxygen pumped into his failing lungs. “Why are you here?” he deadpanned.
Daichi at least had the wherewithal to look ashamed. “I came to apologize. I did you wrong, Suga. Please just get the surgery. You’re still my best friend-”
“Stop.” Koushi held a hand up weakly. “You broke my heart, Daichi. These are the consequences, and I’m not going to forgive you just to assuage your guilt. You can’t expect sorry to fix everything.” Daichi’s face revealed a storm of emotions.
Koushi sighed. “Please just go…” he mumbled quietly.
Daichi nodded, and as fast as he had arrived, he was gone.
Those were the last words Koushi ever spoke to anyone.
for the hope of it all,
for the hope of it all
**✿❀ ❀✿**
Looking back, Koushi was at peace.
**✿❀ ❀✿**
“Sugawara Koushi, age 18, died of suffocation from roots in his lungs on August 13th, 2012 at 22:08. The cause of death was Hanahaki disease, and it seems like his affliction was sped along by a visitation by its subject, and Sugawara-san was struck with a violent attack. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.”
- Excerpt from the notes of Dr. Hayato Ayame
Finally, in death, Koushi was letting go.
Isn't It Cliché? Chapter 2
Read chapter one here or on Ao3
Pairing: DaiSuga (Haikyuu!!)
Word Count: 2627
Warnings: very brief mention of alcohol and drug consumption, but nothing explicit
A/N: sorry for the late update, I know I said I would update regularly but life got in the way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I hope you enjoy this chapter!
The university building was huge, way bigger than his old one. Students were chattering away around him, some of them already deep into writing papers, exchanging notes, and sipping coffee. He missed this exact feeling of uni during break. He hadn’t had too many assignments due to his transfer, and the ones he did have were easy tasks, so he had the entire summer to do whatever he wanted, which was odd to him since he was so used to either working or revising during break.
He took out his timetable he thankfully remembered to print a few weeks prior, making his way to the classroom in which his first-class would take place.
“Oh, hi!” He heard a somewhat familiar voice call from behind him. He turned around to see who was talking. He was faced with a man he met on orientation day, whose name he had promptly forgotten. His hair was black and gelled up to the extreme, making him look like a rooster with some bedhead.
“Sugawara, right?” He asked, flashing him a toothy grin. “We met at orientation, I’m Kuroo Tetsurou.” Suga nodded, remembering how he charmed every single person at orientation. He had originally gone to welcome the newcomers since he was a second year, but once Suga said he was transferring and found out that he also studied Japanese Studies, Kuroo happily obliged to answer any questions about the university he might have.
“Ah yeah, apologies for forgetting your name, I won’t forget it again,” Suga said as he shook Kuroo’s hand in greeting.
“That’s absolutely fine, man. I understand it’s not easy to remember everything and everyone when moving into a new city. It’s cool that you’re studying Japanese Studies as well though! If you’re up for it, me and a couple other people are grabbing lunch later and you’re more than welcome to join!” Suga gladly accepted the invitation, feeling oddly reassured that someone as confident as Kuroo basically just took him in like that. He must’ve looked really lost.
The morning passed quite quickly, Suga only got lost once between classes, but everyone at the university was just so helpful and kind that it wasn’t that big of an issue. At lunchtime, he met Kuroo and his three friends at the bottom of the main stairs, smiling nervously at the strangers as Kuroo introduced them. The one whose hair probably had more gel in it than Kuroo was named Bokuto Koutarou, who was more than excited to meet Suga. The other two were calmer at greeting him, the shorter one with dark hair introduced himself as Akaashi Keiji, and the tall blonde quietly introduced himself as Tsukishima Kei. The conversation came almost naturally to them all as they made their way to the cafeteria, and Suga was thankful for how they did their best to include him in their conversations. Suga quickly noticed that Bokuto and Akaashi were closest and were most probably friends since at least middle school with how they spoke to and acted around each other, but everyone seemed to tease Bokuto relentlessly, reminding Suga of his own best friend. He should definitely send Asahi a text after lunch to see how he was holding up.
Suga quickly felt integrated into the friend group, cracking jokes with the rest of them as they ate the somewhat disgusting cafeteria food.
“This university is so fancy and expensive, can’t they at least make decent food?” Kuroo quipped, making the others nod in agreement.
“You’ve been saying that since last year. Besides, it’s better than whatever you can cook, Kuroo.” Tsukishima replied in a drawl, sounding almost bored.
“That’s not very nice of you, Tsukki-poo. I mean you’re not wrong but you shouldn’t say it.” Kuroo answered nonchalantly, ignoring the face of discomfort he made at the nickname.
“So Suga, why did you decide to move to Tokyo?” Akaashi asked, and suddenly everyone fell quiet, watching their new friend with intent.
“I didn’t like my old university, and I always wanted to move to Tokyo, so I figured why not,” Suga answered, trying to seem unfazed.
“Why didn’t you move for your first year then?” Bokuto asked, his eyes big and focussed intensely on Suga.
“Ah, well… My ex wanted me to stay close to our hometown, so I enrolled in our local university. We had a pretty bad breakup though so I was excited to move away.” He consciously left any pronouns out of the conversation, not ready to come out to his newfound friends, just in case. He grimaced at recalling the way he found out his ex-boyfriend was cheating on him and had been for two months before their breakup. After he had found out, he couldn’t get out of his hometown quicker.
“Ah. Makes sense. Oh well, there are lots of people here that we can hook you up with if you want.” Kuroo said in what Suga assumed to be a joke, but he thanked him for the offer anyway.
“Ah it’s fine, I’m not big on dating yet, my ex kinda messed me up, and I don’t know how I feel about one-night stands just yet.” The others nodded, understanding that he was done talking about it.
“Well, we’re all going to Kuroo’s house party he and his roommates are throwing at the end of the week, sort of like a beginning of the semester party. You’re very welcome to join us if you like!” Bokuto chimed in, to which Suga gladly agreed. He needed to check his schedule but getting drunk and/or high at university parties was something he desperately missed during the summer holidays.
After lunch, everyone went their separate ways, and Kuroo promised to text Suga the details of the party the day of. Before his last class of the day started, he sent Asahi a quick text, asking how he was holding up. He got a thumbs-up emoji back, meaning that he was surviving the day. Sugawara smiled as he put his phone back into his pocket and went into the classroom.
The day was over a lot quicker than Suga had anticipated, and he sent Asahi a text as he made his way back home.
Home in 20, give me a call if you feel like it!
He threw his coat and bag on the couch as he went into the kitchen to make a coffee. There was nothing Suga loved more than a cup of coffee after a long day. His ex often commented on how bad his caffeine addiction had gotten during his time at uni but he wasn’t in the picture anymore so why should he care? As he was waiting for Asahi to call, he sat by the window in his living room/bedroom, watching civilians pass by as he quietly sipped his coffee. The street he lived in was pretty busy, cars were always driving by and there were always people to observe. Suga loved watching the people crossing the street or running to the subway, were it businessmen, or parents with their children, trying to urge them from one side of the street to the other. Just as he was watching a mother on the phone, trying to get her kid’s attention who was attempting to run across the street when the light was red, his train of thought was interrupted by his phone buzzing.
“Hey Asahi,” he said after he swiped the screen of his phone to accept Asahi’s FaceTime call.
“So? How was your first day?” He asked excitedly, sipping his coffee and leaning against the window.
“It was so cool! The people were really nice and I’m going out for drinks with a few people later tonight!” Asahi sounded a lot more confident than the day before, which made Suga’s heart swell with pride. His best friend was never the best when it came to meeting new people, always worried that people would see him as a threat or too intimidating. His height and broad build were definitely assets to that, but his heart was so pure it was almost impossible not to love the man.
“Did you meet any cool fashionable people then?” Suga asked, which prompted Asahi to tell him all about his day and everyone he had met. Suga listened intently to his best friend’s words, not wanting to miss a single minute of what happened during his first day.
“Ah, I’m rambling again. How was your day?” Asahi asked after speaking for a while, and Suga couldn’t help but smile. Asahi always felt ashamed and somehow shy when he “talked too much,” even though Suga loved nothing more than to listen to whatever Asahi was passionate about. Asahi also knew this to some extent, but he still seemed to feel bad whenever he spoke for more than one minute at a time, thinking it was selfish of him, at least that’s what Asahi had told Suga when he asked his best friend about it.
“Ah no, it’s fine! I like hearing you talk. Besides, it was your first day of uni! That’s exciting! My day was good, I met a few new people and we’re also going to this party on Friday, so I’m looking forward to that!” Suga continued to tell Asahi about his day, in turn, making sure to not leave out any details. He really enjoyed these FaceTime calls with Asahi, something they decided to do more when Asahi was traveling with Nishinoya before he came back home to study and they couldn’t see each other as often as they were used to.
“So yeah, that’s about it from my end. I have work again after class tomorrow afternoon so I’ll probably not be on my phone too much, just so you know!”
“Ok, noted” Asahi answered, before continuing talking about random things.
“Oh by the way, Yuu said he’ll come back home in a few weeks!” Asahi said, his eyes practically shining in excitement. Suga grinned at that, knowing that maybe it might be a little less than that. Noya had wanted to surprise Asahi by coming back from his travels this week, two weeks earlier than planned and only Suga knew about it.
Noya had been traveling Europe for five months now, and although Asahi had joined him in the first month, he had to go home and work in order to afford uni and his apartment, which bummed Asahi out greatly. He and Noya had the most wholesome relationship in Suga’s opinion. Neither could live without the other, so long-distance kinda sucked for the both of them.
Asahi and Nishinoya were the classic “best friends that had feelings for each other since forever but never acted on it” until one day Suga had enough of the bullshit and made them confess to one another. At least that’s how Asahi and Noya put it, Suga thought of it as more of a “not-so-subtly locking them in a room until they confessed” sort of situation. Not his most graceful moment, he must admit, but they had been together for a year now and were completely and utterly in love with each other, it was cute but sickening to watch as a single person. Pushing the thought away, Suga grinned at the camera, nodding enthusiastically.
“I’m excited for you! I might try to come to visit for a weekend once Noya’s back, we can have a movie marathon weekend like we used to in high school,” Suga suggested and Asahi was practically glowing with excitement. The rest of the conversation was about Noya and his adventures in Europe until Asahi had to get ready for his night out with the new people he met at uni.
Suga decided to spend the night in a YouTube deep dive until he passed out, which was always a bad idea but at least he remembered to set an alarm this time.
Just as he had anticipated, he woke up extremely confused to his alarm, not remembering when he fell asleep. His laptop had since turned off due to lack of charging, but he had no time to care about that now, because he wanted to get to uni on time and he needed to remember to take his work clothes with him, so he tried to get out of bed at least half an hour before he had to leave. He was in a bad mood, probably due to his YouTube deep dive last night, and he couldn’t wait to go back to bed the second he had to leave the warm and safe confines of his sheets. He got dressed in a hurry, realising he only had ten minutes before he had to leave.
The morning was rather uneventful, and Suga did his best to seem as chipper as he had been the day before, despite his foul mood. Kuroo had invited him to lunch again, but he declined with a smile and an apology. He knew he would have to go to work at 1 pm and there would be no time for him to eat in the cafeteria. Suga appreciated Kuroo’s kindness and understanding as he turned away to listen to the professor, leaving Suga to his notes. He decided to eat his lunch in the break room at work before his shift started in order to ensure he would be on time.
That day he worked the orders, and since it was a weekday before 4 pm, he was left with one other coworker who was taking orders. He hadn’t met this colleague before but he seemed very intense and focused on his work. He had introduced himself earlier that afternoon as Kageyama Tobio and promptly walked off to start his shift. Suga wasn’t phased though, knowing that he probably had trouble opening up to people, so he decided to not overwhelm him with conversation. They worked surprisingly well together and Suga enjoyed working quietly, listening to the playlist that was playing that day. Sometimes he’d listen in to other people’s fleeting conversations as they waited for their orders, the snippets he caught always entertained him as he wondered what the rest of the conversation was about. He knew that that was probably not appropriate but he was too curious about other people’s lives not to eavesdrop. Right before 4 pm, another coworker joined him and Kageyama, introducing himself as Ennoshita Chikara. He seemed like an effective and good worker, and Suga wished he had more time to get acquainted with him but unfortunately, rush hour had started so they were too busy making orders. He had an inkling that he and Ennoshita would get along pretty well though, so he made sure he would talk to the man more when they had another shift together.
Even though Suga had a 6-hour shift, the afternoon went by in a blur and he didn’t notice how much his back ached from being on his feet non-stop during that time until he arrived at his apartment. He decided to put off homework until he had his bath and some dinner, truly exhausted from his day. He checked his phone as the water poured into the tub, texting Asahi that he was alright and that he would call after his classes the next day, too tired to keep a conversation tonight. He doubted whether or not he would be able to do his homework that night, but he figured he could just do it the next day instead, so he sunk into the hot water wondering what kind of tv show he wanted to watch before bed. He deserved some self-care as well from time to time even if that self-care took the form of eating instant ramen and watching Netflix.
Blame It On The Alcohol
Title: Blame It On The Alcohol
Author: Jaroslav Lewis
Fandom: Haikyu
Pairing: Sawamura Daichi and Sugawara Koushi (Daisuga) , With mentions of OiSuga and IwaOi
Summary: Sugawara Koushi wasn’t sure if it was the six shots of tequila, the frustration to get back at his ex or just the way the handsome stranger laid his eyes on him, that pushed him to do something spontaneous that night.
Everything was absolutely hazy. Loud EDM music rang in his ears as he stood there, occasionally swaying to the music. He figured he absolutely had no sense of rhythm.  At that point he was only, at the very least tipsy and still felt aware and conscious about how he looked like. So, he gulped down another shot of liquor, hoping that by then he’d be drunk enough to have enough rhythm to kill it on the dance floor
He can’t help but wince at the strong and bitter aftertaste. He obviously didn’t like it. He was never the type to party all night and get drunk but he decided to change things that night.
After months of moping around because of a bad break up, he owed it to himself to go out, party, meet new people and have a night life.
He could remember showing up at Kiyoko’s doorstep late at night after catching the last trip home from Tokyo. He stayed in her room, crying until he fell asleep. He remembered the boxes of tissues he used all up, wiping his tears and blowing his nose, the pints of ice cream he and Kiyoko finished together while watching chick flicks when at that night he was supposed to be in his boyfriend’s room, cuddling, spending some time together after being away from each other for so long.
He wanted to surprise him. He prepared for weeks, saved up to buy presents for his beloved boyfriend and a train ticket to Tokyo. He was so excited, counting down the days that he couldn’t sleep.
“Tohru-kun’s gonna be so surpised!” He told Kiyoko, giddily, picturing the precious smile on his boyfriend’s face as he packed his bags.
“I’m sure he will, Suga…” Kiyoko agreed, supportively.
But it turns out, he is the one who was going to be surprised after all. His heart ached every time the memory of it all replayed in his head.
He was whistling to a happy tune as he pushed the keys in. Tohru Oikawa had given him a duplicate to his dorm before he left for Tokyo.  Suga was all smiles, anticipating to see his boyfriend’s shocked face. He even giggled at the thought of Oikawa running towards him for a hug.
“Tohru-kun!” He called out in a sweet, sing-song tune, as he pushed the door open, only to find his beloved in the arms of someone else. They were making out, on the couch, quite roughly and passionately that it took them a few seconds to notice he was there, frozen by the doorway.
And he was right. Oikawa reacted surprised. Very. But not in the way he expected.
“Koushi-kun…” Oikawa breathed in what seemed like a small gasp. There was guilt written in his face, he was so horrified.
His heart sank as he dropped the bags of presents and heaping amount of milk bread that he got for Oikawa.  Suddenly, he had the will to move and he was even stupid enough to squeak out a “Sorry.”
As if he was the one at fault, as if he was the intruder when he was the boyfriend, the loved one, the one that had the key to Oikawa’s dorm.
Wasn’t he?
He ran as fast as he could, tears, streaming down his face, endlessly that even the cold wind couldn’t dry it off so easily.
It didn’t take a while until Oikawa was able to catch up on him and got hold of his wrist.
“Koushi…” He said in the most apologetic tone he could muster and it annoyed Suga so much. “I can explain…”
How cliché…
A typical line from a cheater who was caught in the act. It would have been right to slap him right then and there, but instead, Suga turned to face Oikawa, eyes all watery, his pale cheeks stained with tears.
“How long?”
“About two months… Iwa-chan…” He began.
Iwa-chan… So, he has a nickname now?
“Iwaizumi…” He cleared his throat, correcting himself as he read Suga’s expression. “We were childhood friends, he moved away when we were kids and we sort of reconnected… I didn’t mean it, Koushi… It has been stressful at the university lately. You and I were miles apart…”
Now he’s just coming up with lame excuses.
“I didn’t want to hurt you…”
But you did…
“I was confused…”
If you loved me, you wouldn’t be…
“I’m sorry…”
And then it dawned on him, how lately his texts have been so bland and dry. How he didn’t seem interested to talk to him anymore and would often just reply to his long messages with just an “okay” and at the very most, small phrases like “I see…”, “That’s nice…”, “Good for you…”
It was so pathetic…
He felt so stupid, not being able to see through it and just shrugging it off as, “Oh he’s busy and tired.” that he needed to rest.  He was always so considerate and caring. He loved him so much. He was such a fool.
It was so unfair…
Suddenly, everything was pitched-black.
“Koushi… It’s not you… It’s me…”
Oh God. Not that…
“I get it…” He finally said. “I get it, Tohru… You don’t have to explain. It’s okay.”
It obviously wasn’t and it wouldn’t be.
He forced a smile despite the tears and left without another word. This time, Oikawa didn’t follow him. Whether he came back and continued his affair with Iwa-chan, he never knew. He didn’t want to know…
He had a train to catch.
He felt numb throughout his trip back.
But when he showed up at Kiyoko’s doorstep, that was when he broke down and cried his heart out until it was hard for him to breathe. Kiyoko had to hold him and support him all the way as they walked into her room.
He told her everything that happened. She was kind enough to take care of him throughout the night, she offered him a box of tissue, she gave him water, ice cream. She wrapped him in a blanket.  She gave him anything she thought would cheer him up.
But nothing did. He cried all night and in the following days, weeks, months…
He was a total mess. He couldn’t function well. He lost a ton of weight. He was so miserable. He was failing in his classes; he was skipping his part time job.
Kiyoko was so patient with him, but she hated seeing him suffer for someone who probably didn’t give a damn about him anymore and eventually, the time came…
“I’m not gonna coddle you anymore, Suga. “She told him. “Enough is enough.”
She forced him to get up and put something nice on. He was quite stubborn at first but she wasn’t having any of it anymore. She went harsh on him. She had to show him some tough love.
“Oikawa is probably living his best life with the other guy right now…” Kiyoko said. “They’re probably happy, doing the things you and him used to do…”
“Shut up! I don’t want to hear it!” Suga sobbed as he placed a pillow over his head and curled into a ball on the corner of his bed.
“Look at yourself!” Kiyoko pulled the covers from him, raising her tone. “You’re here moping around, ruining your life for someone who isn’t even worth it!”
For a moment, Suga was silent because he finally realized that Kiyoko was right.
“Get up. Go out. Get your life together! Meet new people!” Kiyoko said. “Show him you’re better off without him!”
It was a slow process but slowly he did as Kiyoko told him to. He started studying diligently again, he recently applied for a new job at a café and now he’s going out to have some fun, to meet new people.
So, there he was taking shot after shot until the alcohol kicked in his system. Suddenly, he was dancing to the rhythm, killing it in the dance floor, not a care in the world if he looked like a fool swaying around, jumping around when just a few minutes ago he was too stiff to move.
He was already at his sixth shot of tequila. Things were starting to get blurry as the alcohol started to kick in. He felt light in the head, like all of a sudden nothing else mattered. He felt great, like some sort of high, a weird rush of adrenaline. He started to understand why people liked getting drunk. Because the foul smell and bitter taste of alcohol was worth enduring when it starts to kick in your system, do things to you and change you…
The great feeling was however cut short the moment he spotted a familiar face in the club, a face he hadn’t seen for months and didn’t know whether he didn’t want or wanted to see.
Tohru…
Suddenly he was wide awake again. He felt his insides turn and his mind went blank. The loud EDM music faded into a deafening beep, ringing in his ears. He froze as if time stopped when they locked eyes.
He felt fuzzy. He wasn’t sure if it was the six shots of tequila doing things to his body, but he knew very well that he hated the feeling.
How could he still feel for someone who hurt him so much? He thought he was okay, that all the time he spent away from him changed him, helped him forget about his feelings.
He had moved on, hadn’t he?
It took him months to pull himself together, months that felt like eternity only for him to crumble down in seconds. Suddenly, all he could think about is about how he missed looking into Oikawa’s dark brown eyes.
He froze with every step Oikawa took towards him. His mind told him to runaway but it felt as though his feet were glued to the floor.
Koushi? What are you doing here? Oikawa uttered, or at least, that’s what Suga read in his lips, since he couldn’t hear over the loud music and the ringing in his ears. Suga knew why he looked surprised. When they were together, he wasn’t always like this, because he was more of a home-guy. He preffered staying at home, cuddling with Oikawa while watching movies, just the two of them. A club was a place where you’d least expect to see him. He was boring, like that and he figured, that must’ve been the reason why Oikawa left him for someone else.
Suga failed to respond, not knowing what to say.  Just when he thought things couldn’t possibly get any worse, another familiar face appears and approaches his ex-boyfriend. It was the same person he saw with Oikawa that night.
Iwaizumi was it?
He held two glasses of cocktails. Suga assumed one was for Oikawa and he guessed right as Iwaizumi turned to Oikawa to give him the glass, that was until he noticed whom his boyfriend was staring at.
At that moment, Suga felt so sick he wanted to throw up. He just wanted to disappear.
From not far away, a handsome young man of his age looked at him with worry. He could see Suga from where he was standing. He saw his expression as the lights hit his pale face. He read his body language. He could tell something wasn’t right.
For roughly 30 minutes, Sawamura Daichi had been observing Suga from afar, amused by his adorable antics. He smiled as he watched Suga dance, mesmerized by how pretty he looks and how magical it seemed when the LED lights danced on his pale, grey hair.
He had wanted to approach the stranger, but he felt intimidated. He was too sober to do it. So, he decided to drink for a while. Being tipsy always helped with his confidence. But just as he was starting to feel the alcohol kick in, the beautiful stranger was approached by another man and it ruined his lovely view.
And it was only then that Daichi had decided to cross the sea of drunk, dancing, people to approach the beautiful stranger.
“He’s with me.” He said, casually and lightly pulling Suga away from the “couple”, crossing between them, to stand protectively over the startled, grey-haired pretty boy whom at that moment had his mind drifting away.
Oikawa on the other hand looked at Daichi skeptically, then turned to Suga who was still too stunned to process what was happening. He wanted to ask if it was true, if Suga was in fact with the guy, if they are together. Though he knew he had no right anymore, he can’t help getting curious. But before he could even ask, Iwaizumi tugged on his shirt, as if telling him that they should leave.
Oikawa allowed Iwaizumi to drag him, but his gaze did not leave Suga and Daichi.
Daichi on the other hand, looked at Suga with much concern.
“Were they bothering you?” He asked softly but it went unheard by Suga because of the loud music and the beeping in his ears. Suga cocked his head to the side, confused. Daichi repeated himself again, this time, leaning forward so that Suga could hear him.
Then they locked eyes. Daichi couldn’t help but notice how he looks even more beautiful, up close.  His features were so soft and quite feminine he’d almost mistake him for a woman. The stranger’s eyes were a lovely shade of hazel that becomes evident when the lights hit it. He also noticed the little beauty mark near his left eye that makes him look softer and quite sexy if it even made sense.
Suga on the other hand can’t help but admire how dashing Daichi looked in his dark jeans and navy-blue button-up shirt. He looked like a knight in shining armor with his strong hand wrapped around Suga’s thin wrist tightly but not in the way that it hurts him, his brown eyes, dark and romantic staring into his hazel ones.
He noticed him inching closer. The stranger before him tried to tell him something he failed to comprehend.
Suga was never the type to just jump into conclusions nor to recklessly assume things but the man was giving him signs. He didn’t know him at all, he hadn’t had the chance to catch his name, but the way he just came up to him in the crowd and the way they were so intimately close, meant something, right? He isn’t just imagining things…
Right?
From the corner of his eyes, in his peripheral vision he could sense Oikawa still watching him and the stranger. Suddenly something sparked inside of him.
“Show him you’re better off without him…” He remembered Kiyoko’s words.
Suga didn’t understand what it was. He wasn’t quite sure if it was the six shots of tequila, the months of coldness and desperate need to feel warmth, some sort of touch. Maybe it was just the sudden rush of adrenaline or the irking urge to get back at his cheating ex who was watching by the bar.
He felt some sort of surging desire that needed to be satisfied and Daichi’s closeness and soft, seductive gaze added fuel to what he felt. So, he gave in and trusted his instincts. Something that he didn’t always do.
He pulled Daichi by the collar, making him lean forward and close the very little distance between them and just like that, their lips met in what started off as a soft,  unsure kiss where in Daichi was the one who is confused and caught off guard and Suga was surprisingly and impulsively,  dominating him.
Momentarily, Daichi wondered how could someone who looked so cute and innocent be this bold and forward? It was a mystery he had yet to solve. But he did like the feeling of the pretty stranger’s soft lips on his. It was in no way unpleasant, saying it was good, was an understatement.
So, Daichi gave in to the feeling and kissed him back. He fought for dominance, slipped his tongue into the pretty boy’s mouth and tasted the combination of lemon and alcohol and something quite magical.  And eventually, the kiss grew passionately very quickly that both of them failed to notice that their hands were roaming around places, touching, feeling each other’s bodies through the fabric of their clothes.
This wasn’t exactly how Daichi planned to interact with the beautiful stranger that caught his eyes. It was unconventional, reckless, wild and  very un-Daichi of him to do if that was even a word. But he couldn’t complain, in fact, he wouldn’t have it any other way.
As strange and as crazy as it seemed, he found it amazing how the kiss felt right and familiar despite them being strangers to each other.
They were both intoxicated in the feeling. Everything was exhilarating and euphoric that they both felt like the moment should just go on forever until they reached their limit had to shortly pull away for some air.
The kiss broke but their gaze on each other didn’t. Still hazy in the heat of the moment, they stayed close, breathing in each other’s breath and scent.
As the heat subsided, their sane thoughts and consciousness started kicking in.
What happens now?
Should we ask for each other’s names?
Should we exchange pleasantries right after that?
Both of their faces started flushing crimson-red.
And as if on cue, Kiyoko arrives with her boyfriend Tanaka Ryonosuke and their tall, long-haired friend, Azumane Asahi. Apparently, the little scandalous show they’ve just displayed was all witnessed by them.
“Daichi… I see you’ve already met our friend, Suga…” Kiyoko says with a soft giggle.
“That was quite an introduction there!” Tanaka chuckles, teasingly.
Snapping out of his thoughts, Daichi awkwardly extends a hand towards Suga.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you…” He said more loudly this time, so that he didn’t have to lean closer for Suga to hear.
“Likewise.” Suga replied, accepting his offer for a handshake. He marveled at the warm feeling of Daichi’s hand in his and how perfectly it fits.  Suddenly, the uncomfortable urge to throw up and disappear was gone. All that’s left is the warm, fuzzy, feeling in his chest.
AN: Not sure if I’m late to enter the fandom, but I’ve unexpectedly fallen for Haikyu and Daisuga over quarantine. Never expected to fall into this. Never really liked volleyball mainly because I never had the talent for it.  But I came to love the characters and instantly, Suga and Daichi became my faves.
This is my first fic for the fandom and my first BL fic as well. I’m not quite sure if this is up to par with all the great fics I’ve read of Daisuga. But I tried. >///<
Hope I did well for my first. Would apologize in advance if any of the characters are OOC and if I hurt anyone for making IwaOi the villain here.
Still not sure if I’m gonna leave this as a one-shot or turn it into a series. I have ideas for a next chap but they’re still vague.
Please feel free to give feedback!~
By the way, you’re missing something.” “Cream and two and a half sugars- wait, I’m missing something?” “Yup,” Suga says. “You forgot to mention that we’re dating.” “Well, god, Suga, judging from how we’ve been kissing and holding hands for three years and in this bed for the past nine hours since last night, I couldn’t possibly tell.”
(complete)
AsaNoya
Setting Aside Your Pride and Your Prejudice - by sugamama_crowshi
“Oh, Pride and Prejudice?” an unfamiliar voice asked. Noya was pulled from his search as the man before him spoke. He blinked up at him a few times. Then he stared. Nishinoya’s mouth was probably hanging open slightly. He couldn’t help it. Before him stood the single most gorgeous man Nishinoya Yuu had every laid eyes on.
(in which Noya is accidentally the Worst Neighbor Ever, Asahi loses twenty years of his life to stress, and Rolling Thunder is the star of the show.)
(complete)
Under the Radar - by lilien passe (lilienpasse)
Two weeks after Asahi rejoins the team, Noya finds himself starting to slip during practice. Missed receives, floor burns, the whole nine yards. But when Tanaka points out the possible cause, Noya's hard-pressed to believe him. There's no way someone as dopey yet implausibly-competent as Asahi could be the cause of all his distress. After all, Noya doesn't worry about much beyond the court, and he certainly doesn't hold grudges. Right? (Semi-AU)
(complete)
★ Crumbling Foundations - by Captain_Hughes_ZU, ToshiChan [Gen]
Things like this didn't happen in Karasuno. It was just a school. Learning, making friends, taking exams and playing volleyball. Lots of volleyball. So it was really nothing out of the ordinary for the team to be in the gym on a simple Monday morning, training away. But two men walking into the gym with guns, one demanding to take his son? That wasn't ordinary, not at all...
hey hey hey!! I really love your tumblr, if you feel up to could you write that fic you mentioned about Suga’s fear of thunderstorms?? If you put daisuga in it my heart will literally MELT. Hope u have a nice day💞
wow thank you anon!!
Astraphobia
WARNING PANIC ATTACKS (kinda its not really)
If there was one thing Suga hated it was storms. They were way too loud and destructive. He hated the way that thunder would shake the ground and how the lighting would light up the sky in a broken streak of light.
So, when in his third year of high school, he glanced out the classroom window and saw the sky turning a dark intimidating grey fear starting rushing through his veins. That one glance out the window had taken his concentration with it. Now all he could think of was the storm that was on its way. His teacher seemed to notice.
“Sugawara could you answer number four?” His head shot up from biting on his thumbnail. The anxiety and fear in his stomach doubled as everyone in the room looked at him. He attempted to stutter out an answer as a voice behind him called out.
“It is x=27,” The teacher nodded but sent a disappointed look his way. He didn’t care though he was too busy thanking his best friend telepathically. The small sense of relief he felt faded away when he saw a flash of light out of the corner of his eye. The storm was getting closer.
He had checked the weather that morning, as he did every day, and it had said it would rain but not storm. If there ever was a storm, he would stay home and cuddle with his dog inside his closet when it hit. But now he was trapped at school away from his dog and his safe place.
While he was debating if he should ask his mother to leave work to come get him, the bell must have rung because Daichi was trying to grab his attention. The slightly taller boy was standing in front of Suga’s desk with a concerned look on his face. Suga looked up, with his thumbnail still in between his teeth, to meet Daichi’s eyes. Daich reached out his hand and pulled Suga’s hand away from his mouth.
“C’mon Suga we’ve got practice,” The calming tone he spoke in made Suga feel safe. He reached down for his bag and shoved his belongings into it. The setter stood up on shaky legs. A quiet rumble from outside made his heartbeat quicken and any sort of security that Daichi’s presence had given him dissipate. Suga turned his head towards the window and the sky was completely covered by angry storm clouds. He couldn't turn his gaze away not even when Daichi had grabbed his hand and started pulling him away.
“..wara...KOUSHI!” The use of his first name made the setter jump. Daichi looked more concerned than earlier. Guilt coiled around his spine. He didn’t want to make the captain worry, he already does enough of that. So, he threw out one of his kind smiles.
“Sorry Dai, I’m just feeling a bit anxious. I’ll be fine,” It wasn’t a lie, he was feeling anxious. Daichi didn’t really seem to believe him but he didn’t ask any questions. The captain just continues to pull Suga to the club room. Scrunching his eyes, trying so hard to ignore it
But it started to rain
And it got harder
And heavier
And by the time they had reached outside it was pouring. Visibility is almost zero but Daichi made no move to stop. Suga did, he stopped in his tracks. Daichi turned to look at the silver haired boy.
“Suga..?” The boy in question was trembling. His usually kind, calm eyes now filled with panic and fear. Lightning struck so close Daichi could see it’s reflection in them, the thunder followed not too soon after. A loud rumbling sound that shook the ground and made the hand in his tense ups
Suga started shaking his head as to say no and pulled his hand away from Daichi’s. Before the latter could even say anything Suga had turned and ran back into the school building.
Suga ran. Well maybe ran wasn’t the right word. It was more like a staggering speed walk. His legs felt like jelly, his head felt foggy. As thunder continued to stake the ground in a constant pattern his mind was telling him one thing.
Hidehidehidehidehidehidehidehidehidehide
With his foggy panicked mind and view of the storage closet at the end of the hall, getting into there was all Suga could think of. He broke out into a run. The door handle felt cold under his shaky hands. He tried focusing on the cold feel of the tile floor once he got inside the closet. Pushing himself into the further meet corner from the door and wrapped his arms around his knees.
“Breathe Koushi. It’s going to be ok,” He spoke to himself in a way he would to a scared underclassman. Usually that tone would help calm the person it was used on but it was not working this time. His body trembled and shook with every thunderclap. Nails dug into the skin of his forearm so deep they began to draw blood. Warm tears cascaded down his blotchy cheeks. Another loud thunderclap sounded and everything that was holding Suga together fell apart. He let out a loud gasp followed by sobs that he attempted to muffle. His shaking hands tore through his grey hair.
“Stop..please stop… go away go away,” Suga tried to plead with the storm raging outside. The door handle to the closet started to move and the door opened slowly. A familiar face appeared in the small gap that door had made.
“Suga..” Daichi called out. The taller man crossed the small distance from the door to the corner where Suga sat. Without thinking the setter threw himself into Daichi’s arms. The latter started whispering ‘you ok’ and ‘i’ve got you’ into Suga’s hair. They continued to sit there like that for an hour until the storm calmed down.
And if Daichi carried Suga home and stayed the night, who would know?
Blood Bound
right, so, since i’m in my final year for university, i have to take a Thesis class. i originally had this idea for haikyuu, so i just had to changed the names and everything for this. things won’t be exactly how i wanted them for if i had gone with a fanfic, but well, that’s half the fun.
it was either this medieval adventure or my space gay adventure and i figured the entirety of my english department didn’t want to read about space and gays and aliens, so that’ll be a fanfic at some point. i did a whole lot of background for that, so the writing will be smoother than usual.
in this case, it’s asanoya, with background daisuga and some others i haven’t finalized yet, but this is the first part i have to turn in for thesis.
:D
For all that this was apparently his idea, Asahi was following.
Daichi strode confidently ahead through the brush, leaves crackling under heavy boots as he pushed aside low hanging branches. And if Asahi hadn’t been watching and had only been blindly following, as he usually did, the branch would have struck him across the face. A sharp breath in and he ducked, the branch passing innocently over where his head had been seconds ago. He stared as it swung back into place, before letting out his breath in staggered gasps, watching Daichi continue through the woods.
Had Asahi not ducked far enough, the esteemed Azumanes of Karasuno would have had their beloved nephew blinded—by a tree branch.
“You—you did that on purpose!”
Daichi stopped mid-step, turning his head to look back at him. Asahi moved carefully, minding the deadly foliage, and crossing his arms, letting a frown take over. “Did what?” Daichi asked.
“The tree branch!” Asahi pointed upwards and Daichi followed the gesture, turning fully now to blink at the tree. “You pushed it aside!”
Daichi gazed at him for a long moment, and Asahi knew the look well enough to tell that Daichi was choosing his words carefully. “Yes, I did,” Daichi began slowly, eyes dropping from the branch to stare at Asahi. “Because that’s what you do, when you’re walking through a forest.”
Well. That was understandable, but there still remained the fact that Asahi was almost blinded. “You almost took my head off!” Asahi insisted, waiting for the moment Daichi would realize his mistake and apologize. He didn’t have to wait long; it was another moment before Daichi’s eyebrows rose and his mouth dropped open a little.
“Ohhh. Sorry about that. Good thing you were paying attention, huh?” Daichi grinned and Asahi let his shoulders slump.
“Well, it was an honest mistake, I suppose…” Asahi trailed off, rubbing at the back of his neck sheepishly. “Sorry—for yelling, I mean.”
“No worries,” Daichi waved it off, turning to walk forward once again. Asahi followed and when he looked down step over a tangle of fallen branches, he looked up to see another branch swinging his way. He only had a second to yelp before he was on the ground, holding at his now bleeding nose. He looked up through watering eyes to see Daichi looking down at him in disinterest, arms crossed. “That,” Daichi drawled, “was on purpose.”
“Why,” Asahi’s voice wobbled, muffled by his hands covering his mouth, tasting copper from the hit. “Why on purpose?”
Daichi looked even less impressed than before, fishing a handkerchief from his bag and holding it out, waving it impatiently when Asahi didn’t take it immediately. “First of all, you should be paying attention.”
Asahi replaced one hand with the cloth, pressing tight against his nose. The stained gray material immediately filled with red, even in his limited view. He hissed at the pressure, looking back at his friend after a moment, eyes narrowed at the betrayal. “That hurt.”
“Second of all,” Daichi ignored his accusation, continuing, “If you think I’ll let you get away with yelling at me for something you should have been paying attention to, you have a storm coming your way, My Lord.” Daichi’s tone took a dark turn and Asahi held his tongue. “Now get up. You’re a knight, aren’t you? Wavering in the face of tree branches? It’s going to be fun when we finally get to the castle—I heard there were reports of minotaurs.” Daichi’s grin showed his teeth and Asahi had the very familiar urge to hide, like he did as a child whenever Daichi got that look in his eyes and that smirk on his face. “Not to mention the dragon you’ll probably have to deal with.”
Asahi rose to his feet, one hand still held tight against his nose. “Why do you have to be like this? Was that really necessary?”
Daichi raised a brow, uncrossing his arms. “Oh, absolutely. Get your priorities straight: you are a knight of the kingdom—esteemed knight, by the way— and the next duke of Karasuno.  You’re on a quest to rescue the princess, a quest, I remind you, you volunteered for.”
“If I’m the next Duke, shouldn’t you be nicer?” Asahi muttered, pulling the handkerchief away to touch lightly at his lip, pressing it back in place when he felt wetness.
Daichi’s sharp bark of laughter made him jump. “What’s this? Standing up for yourself? And why on earth would I, an exile, abide by the wishes of a society that cast me out?”
“You keep saying that,” Asahi scoffed, brows furrowing as he stared down his friend, “but you’re a knight of Karasuno as well, aren’t you? Disgraced or not.” Asahi shifted his hand to press a little harder at his nose, wincing at the tenderness. “Did you really have to hit me so hard? Really? This is going to bruise oddly.”
“A knight only in name, by the grace of your uncle, if you remember” Daichi agreed, tilting his head to the side. “I will never be accepted by the king.”
“Well, if you deal with this princess thing, I’ll see to it that my wish is for your honor,” Asahi said, watching his friend for a long moment, before looking away.
“Ohh? This is rare, you’re thinking positive! I’ll make a proper knight out of you yet!”
“It’s nothing like that!” Asahi waved his free hand, quieting his friend. “There’s only two options, after-all. We either return and my greatest desire is granted for rescuing her, or we die out here, in which case it doesn’t much matter if you’re disgraced or not, now does it?”
Daichi stared at him, long enough that Asahi wondered if he should start running because Daichi never looked that blank unless he was about to smack him. Then, a smile spread across his best friend’s lips and Asahi turned, looking around him in fear, trying to find the quickest escape route. “Ha! I will make a knight of you! You forgot the third and fourth options, my glass-hearted companion!” Daichi strode towards him and Asahi squeaked, back-stepping quickly, free hand up in a meager attempt to ward him off.
“Th-there are others?”
“You forgot your favorite option!” Daichi was upon him, heavy hands on his shoulders and then they were close together. Asahi saw the somewhat manic look in his friend’s eyes, brown tinting blue at the edges, Daichi’s hold tightening in his excitement. Or was that pride? Asahi hoped it was pride. “The one where you try to run away and I drag you back! Or the fourth one, where you do run away and remain the rest of your days just as disgraced as me! Join me in exile, my dearest friend!” Daichi let go to throw his arms wide, laughing loudly. Birds shrieked at the noise, spiraling up from the trees to dot the skies. Asahi watched them go, wishing, not for the first time, that he was a bird.
“Ah. Those options,” Asahi noted, resigned. Daichi’s hands returned and he twitched at the heavy thump on his shoulders. “Well, the fourth one isn’t an option at all, you will see to that. And the third one is hardly an option, you know that. What’s the point of running when you’ll just drag me back?”
Daichi’s grin settled into something less fierce, one hand raising to pat at his cheek. Asahi bore the patting, knowing well enough that if he tried to swat away Daichi’s hold, he’d be nursing an even further bruised pride. “You’re learning. And it only took, what? Ten years of friendship? Ahh, your uncle might just knight me properly yet! Look at how far you’ve come!”
“You’re a brute,” Asahi huffed. Daichi patted a little harder, his other hand coming up to rake through his hair. “Ow, no, don’t touch my—“ Asahi’s tight bun came undone and he slumped, his friend turning him around to take his long hair, braiding it sloppily. “Why do you always do this?”
“Cut it short then.”
“I like it long!” Asahi argued. Daichi tugged on his hair and Asahi clicked his jaw shut.
“And I like braiding.”
“You’re terrible at it though,” Asahi hissed and Daichi pulled just a little too hard, making him hiss again. “Ow! Daichi!”
“Apologies, My Liege.” Asahi slouched, handkerchief still held to his nose as he pouted. “Come now, I thought I was traveling with Sir Asahi Azumane, Marquis of Karasuno, Scourge of—“
“Stop, stop,” Asahi cut him off, flapping a hand. “Stop.” He was tired of hearing his titles, even more so when Daichi was trying to motivate him. “Enough.” The pulling on his hair stopped and Asahi glanced over his shoulder, seeing his oldest friend staring at him. “What?” Daichi shrugged, moving away to take to the path again. “Are we going now?” Asahi felt his hair slipping from the loose braid Daichi attempted. He held his tongue, reaching back to swipe his hand through it, letting it loose again. Loose was better than the knotted mess Daichi seemed to prefer on him.
“Would you like to lead the way? Lest I accost you with tree branches again?” Daichi glanced back, then raised a brow. “Well don’t you look majestic.”
“No, you’re fine,” Asahi ignored the snip, following after his friend once more.
“Suit yourself.” Daichi raised an arm, pushing aside a thin branch, lips curving up in a smirk as he passed and let it go, the leaves whistling as they arched back and forth before settling. “Mind your head.”
“If you hit me again, I’ll tell Aunt Mitsuko.”
“And what will she do, exactly? To her beloved son? So cruel to your cousin, Asahi, I am wounded by your words,” Daichi waved breezily.
Asahi didn’t need to see his face to know he was smug. Asahi hunched his shoulders, narrowing his eyes on his friend’s back. “My cousin wouldn’t torment me so and hit me with tree branches,” he muttered.
“I heard that.”
“Good,” Asahi huffed, then, raising his voice, “So much for pledging your allegiance to me.”
“Ah, you? Funny. No, I pledged my loyalty to your uncle. You’re just a duty I was given at that most glorious occasion,” Daichi insisted, striding forward once again towards their destination. Asahi followed behind, shoulders hunched and minding his head and watching what his friend was doing. He would try to aim for his head again, Asahi knew that much. “Besides, I had to pay My Lady back somehow.”
“I’ll tell her you called her that, you know she doesn’t like that,” Asahi warned, a smile quirking on his lips. “Can you imagine how hurt she’ll be? Her own son, still so formal after all these years.” Daichi looked back over his shoulder, a frown marring his features and eyes dark. Asahi’s smile grew. “Isn’t that right, cousin?”
“Keep it up, and I’ll be sure to treat you as kin, Asahi.”
“Please,” Asahi smirked, confidence growing as he had the upper hand in their exchange for once. “I have met Kiyoko, if you remember. I know exactly how you treat kin.”
“You seem under the impression that how I treat her will somehow not be different than how I would treat you,” Daichi warned. “She is a lady, and you?” Daichi made a show of looking him up and down, taking in the armor that glimmered and the broadsword strapped to his back. Another moment, and Daichi tilted his head. “You are most definitely not. The difference is Kiyoko knows how to get a knife to my neck before I’d even think about going for my sword, while I’d already have you pinned while you panicked.”
Asahi paled at the reminder of his friend’s brutality. No mercy for those who don’t value their lives—at-least that’s what Daichi preached and taught to Kiyoko.
“So let’s keep what I call her to ourselves, yes, Cousin?” Daichi’s smile was terrifying and Asahi swallowed thickly at the threat. “I’d hate to upset her, as you said, after all these years. She deserves the best and if she’s decided that’s me, best not to disappoint her, right?”
“U-understood, Daichi…”
“Good! Now, if my map is right,” Daichi faced forward and stopped, Asahi carefully stepping up to stand beside him, map in Daichi’s hands. “And I’m certain it is, we’ll reach Montris by nightfall.” Daichi’s finger slid from the town marked on the parchment to where they were—supposedly—at. “I also recognize that peak.” Daichi’s hand raised to motion towards the forest covered mountain before them. “Over it is Montris. Ready for a climb?”
Asahi sighed, nodding slowly. He long ago learned that whenever Daichi asked, he wasn’t actually asking. “Let’s get going then, so we’re not in the dark.”
“Good man!” A heavy smack sent Asahi stumbling forward, rubbing lightly at his shoulder while Daichi stowed the map away in his bag. “I told Kiyoko to expect us tonight, so we’re making good time!”
“Wait, what? Wait,” Asahi straightened, eyes wide, while Daichi grinned at him, baring his teeth. “Oh no… No, Daichi, we’re not…?”
“A free room and food is not something I will pass up on this journey, you should know that.”
“No, Daichi, please, please, we aren’t staying at her’s, are we?”
“Of-course we are! Besides, she’s expecting us. We can hardly leave her waiting, now can we? Hurry on, we still have a ways to go.” Daichi smacked him again as he passed and Asahi whined at the bruise that would develop later. “Why are you complaining? You like her place.”
“No, no I like her, not her place! You always make me do your job!”
“I am ashamed, Asahi,” Daichi tutted, not sparing him another glance as he stepped through bushes easily. “Not wanting to help my cousin, such a delicate lady of class, with her own home. For shame, and you call yourself a knight? Allowing such a damsel to protect herself and her home all on her own, while expecting—“
“I get it,” Asahi cut him off, dropping his head as he followed. “I’ll be happy to help Kiyoko with her godforsaken tavern.”
“She runs an inn, you heathen.”
“She has a kitchen and a bar, she runs a tavern with rooms for rent,” Asahi snapped back. “And I will be more than happy,” Asahi stressed heavily when Daichi shot him a frown, “To keep it safe while you do whatever it is you do when you leave me to deal with drunken bards and knights and farmers.”
“Look at you, and look at me,” Daichi waved a hand between them, Asahi now at pace with him in his frustration at the situation he was being forced to walk into. “Who do you think they’ll listen to? Me?” Daichi pointed to himself. “Or you?” He raised a hand, waving it to bring Asahi’s attention to the height difference. Asahi snorted. “Admittedly, it’s not much, but if I already stand over them, what would they think with you over them?”
“Halla had her puppies, didn’t she?”
“They’re already a month old and Kiyoko said I can keep them entertained,” Daichi agreed, confessing to his plans for the evening.
“And what makes you think they’ll fear me more than you? They already know you and your orb,” Asahi pointed out, a hand reaching out to tap a finger against the soft blue glow from under the thin material of Daichi’s tunic. His nails clinked against the glass briefly before he dropped his hand. “How’d you get that past Aunt Mitsuko, anyway? I thought she threw all of them out?”
“What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her.”
“Uncle stashed it away for you, didn’t he?”
“While My Lady fears that I’ll catch a cold, he at-least sees the sense in having my power shown. Protection without anyone knowing. The thinner the better,” Daichi stated.
Asahi watched him for a long moment, then furrowed his brows. “Again, what makes you think they’ll fear me more than you, her beloved, protective cousin who not only possesses an orb, but is also a knight?”
“Because they know the Marquis is coming. The Marquis who is also a knight of the kingdom,” Daichi looked at him from the corner of his eye. “The one you’ll be hearing about from those drunken bards all night. Try to look valiant, Asahi, they’ll have the real thing there.”
“I hate you.”
“I assure you, the feeling is mutual, my dear companion.” Another smack, this one more centered between his shoulder blades, and Asahi doubled over. “Now stop stalling. If we miss dinner, I will make sure you suffer.”
“What could you possibly do that could make this worse?”
Daichi’s smile was wide and Asahi scowled at him. “You doubt me, Asahi. Sure, they might know your tales, but do they know all of them? I wonder how many know how you got your start? Wait, I got it,” Daichi pulled his bag forward, pulling out a lyre from within.
“Daichi, why did you bring that?” Asahi was starting to panic. “Why do you have that? How did you have the room?” He knew how Daichi packed, and a lyre, such a frivolous pastime, was not on his list of necessities.
“Well, obviously, I have to set the mood,” Daichi strummed idly, tuning for a moment before he nodded. “I call it Hero of Blood.”
“You wrote a song?”
“I have a lot of free time. My Lady is quiet fond of it, actually.” Daichi cleared his throat and then there was music. Asahi raised a hand to cover his eyes, taking in a deep breath as Daichi settled in to play. As he kept strumming, Asahi let his hand fall to pull at his face before it dropped to his side, watching his best friend with tired eyes. Daichi was smiling at him, obviously waiting for that exact moment.
A child, tall for his age,
Sword in hand and blood singing,
A battle warring in the land.
Bravery, they say, sent him across the field
His ancestors guiding his reach.
A slaughter, they say, had he not ran,
In defense of home and country,
Of land and loyalty.
The son of the Azumanes,
A son of blood and fire
               “That’s enough, stop!” Asahi raised his hands, heat eating as his cheeks as Daichi blessedly stopped singing, still strumming idly. “Aunt Mitsuko is fond of this?”
               “I have a nice voice, don’t be rude,” Daichi insisted.
               “No, your voice is fine—no, why did you write a song?” Asahi asked, almost pleading for some sort of understanding.
               “You didn’t even let me finish it.”
“There’s more?” Asahi wasn’t looking forward to hearing a song about himself, one that his own supposed friend composed.
“Of-course. Shall I continue?”
“No, no, please, just, no,” Asahi demanded weakly. Daichi shrugged, still strumming as he walked, humming lightly as he went. Asahi recognized the music as a ballad about Sir Eoghan Lanvale. “You won’t actually sing that at Kiyoko’s will you?”
“Well, I need to get your greatness out there, fascinating beginning after-all. You are on a very important quest. They deserve to know how you got your start—you just might be king one day.”
“Daichi, you don’t think anyone’s heard about that, have you?” Asahi ignored the thought of marriage for now, more concerned with just how far it reached. Admittedly, it was a large party and he had declared it in-front of everyone, but would they have passed along his declaration? Would it have reached to such a sleepy little town like Montris?
“Oh, most definitely. Kiyoko’s looking forward to your arrival—she’s sure profits will be up while you’re there. Don’t worry, I planned for a detour of a few days. She made sure to mention it to Yachi when Terushima was in. I wouldn’t be surprised if they follow us there when we get to town. Again, try to be valiant for once, Kiyoko’s counting on you to make her money.”
Asahi wondered if that’s all he was good for—doing others’ jobs and making sure Kiyoko prospered. It seemed like that, when half the adventures he’d been on always seemed to pass through Montris where they could help out for a few days.
“But, you won’t sing that, right?” He had to make sure. The last thing he needed was Daichi singing and getting everyone involved in the nightmare that was Asahi’s life at thirteen. “Daichi? You won’t, right? Daichi?”
“I spent a lot of time on it.”
“Daichi, you aren’t singing that, please say you aren’t!”
“It would definitely get your greatness out there. That would help Kiyoko, people knowing she’s so close with The Great Asahi Azumane,” Daichi murmured to himself, but Asahi wasn’t entirely sure he wasn’t just trying to work out how to make Kiyoko rich. “And you’d get your name spread and sung about across the land…”
“Daichi, Daichi I don’t like what you’re thinking. Daichi, please don’t sing that!”
“You know, you’re right. There’s already enough songs about you,” Daichi raised his head and Asahi let himself breathe, relief flowing through him. “But, not many know how you came to be a knight.”
“Daichi!”
“And what’s one more, really?”
“Daichi, please!”
“And I have a good voice, you said so yourself. I’ve never seen myself as much of a bard, but, well, if I have the talent,” Daichi hummed thoughtfully. “Could be known then as the one who wrote the song about your beginning. Maybe write another, when this is over with.”
“Daichi!”
“Stop whining, fine, I won’t sing it.”
Fic Writers Week Day 3: Small But Mighty
Shine a spotlight on the new/underrated fics you’ve read or written.
Yeeessss it’s rec time! I know there’s also the last day to rec fics in general, but I love the idea behind this day a lot too! There’s so many beautiful fics that I’ve read which don’t receive the amount of recognition/kudos that they deserve! I can’t wait to spread the word about them! Since this might be a longer post, I’m putting it under a read more! Enjoy <3
Also, I want to encourage people to try reading new fics as much as possible! While fic rec lists are a good source to start and get ideas about what to read, often times people rely on them too much, and then overlook newer fics which are just as amazing! So every once in a while, remember to check the ship tags on ao3 for newly posted works, that way you don’t miss any hidden gems!
Alright, let’s get into it!
in a flash (ao3) -- Kurotsuki, G
He sees a red beanie covering messy black hair, a soft and boyish smile lit up by the sunlight, and a gray cat.
Click.
Okay so this kurotsuki fic definitely needs twice as many kudos/comments, because the writing was downright phenomenal! It was so beautiful and made me feel warm inside all throughout reading it, I couldn’t get enough! The characterizations are excellent, and the whole mood of the fic is so cozy and wonderful. Please check it out if you love kurotsuki! Also make sure to follow @cawnvictofmurder on tumblr!
a haunting in tokyo (ao3) -- Daisuga, G
This wasn’t the first time Suga had claimed their apartment had been haunted. However, it was the first time he tried to do something about it. Daichi, as always, is nothing but supportive.
This fic was short, but unbelievably sweet! I loved the mix of domestic daisuga fluff with paranormal shenanigans lmao, it was just a super enjoyable fic which had me giggling constantly. I don’t read much daisuga, but it was definitely a treat, and I’d recommend the fic to all! Please also make sure to follow @bishounen-curious <3
Starved (ao3) -- Kurotsuki, T
Kei can’t make it this week. Next week, maybe, he’ll be here but Tetsurou is all out of patience.
Prompt: “I’m tired of being your secret.”
@ivyfics has too many amazing fics which deserve more attention, but this one I feel especially needs to be read. The writing and emotions are just...incredible, I reread this fic so much because I’m in awe of how well it’s written. It’s the perfect mix of angst and relationship development, and I super appreciate that it’s from Kuroo’s POV! Please check it out if you love kurotsuki! It’s worth the read (and reread lol) ^^
Where to Start (ao3) -- TeruShira, G
It's the second date Kenjirou has been on and he can feel Yuuji already figuring him out. He wants to be the boyfriend he wants Yuuji to have, but he doesn't know where to start.
Alright so this author in general just needs more love, yeah TeruShira (or any Shirabu ship really lol) is a rarepair, but gah trust me, after you read this fic you’ll be hopping onto the shipping train so damn fast. The characterizations are so realistic and interesting, and the interactions between the pair are so fun and touching. Please check this fic out, as well as all of SilverAmoebasquid‘s other works!
A God for Every Season (ao3) -- Matsuhana, T
Mortals have all kinds of foolish tales, like how Hades and Persephone's annual reunion causes the seasons. Matsukawa knows better.
Alright, I don’t have time to get into this because for this fic, I can honestly write a 10 page essay about how much I love it. So lemme just say, the writing and the romance is top notch, like...wow, words cannot describe how beautiful the writing is. You seriously need to read it in order to understand. I also love mythology aus, and this delivered! The retelling of Hades/Persephone reuniting was so creative and enjoyable, I want to reread it all again just from typing this lol. @90stimkon did an incredible job with this fic and all their fics, so please check them all out! <3
Waiting for Spring (ao3) -- Kurotsuki, NR
Kuroo had only ever been enamored with a person in his lifetime once. And then "The Dream" happened. Everyday, he dreamt of the neighborhood where he lived, and he always saw a stranger with short blond hair, a tall stature, and black-framed glasses in his dreams. He didn't know who he was, but he was determined to find out.
Kuroo had only ever been enamored with a person in his lifetime once. And then "The Dream" happened. That was the second time.
This fic isn’t exactly recent but I’ll never stop reccing it until it’s been read by everyone lmao I swear! It’s a bit on the angstier side, and there’s a warning for mental illness mentions, but it’s a gorgeous fic. It explores Tsukishima’s emotions and character so well, Kuroo’s too! The details about mental health and Kuroo’s feelings/situation are great, it’s definitely a dream fic which flows into reality so well! I loved the ending, I loved the whole fic, so please give it a shot!
24 Hours (ao3) -- Iwaoi, E
Iwaizumi, a special investigations agent, finds himself falling in love with someone who may already be dead.
@serviceace is an amazing writer, and this crime au has got me so hooked! If you like crime mysteries and detective!Iwaizumi, this is the fic for you! It’s ongoing, but each chapter is so interesting and fun to read, and the questions keep me on the edge of my seat! Please go read this fic if you’re a sucker for iwaoi and police aus, as I am ;)
To The Skies (ao3) -- Kacchako, M
It was supposed to be a typical evening for Bakugou Katsuki. A masquerade ball, a night of serving the royal family as he always did. But when the party goes horribly wrong it's up to servant boy Bakugou to rescue the princess, Uraraka Ochako. His rescue mission is about to change both of their lives completely, and eventually Uraraka will want to reclaim her throne.
Now, older, the two reunite, realizing their lives have gone in very different directions. Ochako, part of the Resistance against the horrible Academy, and Bakugou, a famed sky pirate, traveling the island clusters to find various bounties. Together, they fight to take back the home they once knew and loved.
Okay y’all, lemme tell you, if you love Kacchako, you need to read this! The idea is so damn original, and Rache’s writing is A++ as always. The world she builds and the character relationships that she crafts are so well done. This fic seriously deserves more attention, so please go read! <3 Also follow her writing blog on tumblr @emeraldwaves ! You won’t be disappointed!
Tacky Shoes and Movie Tickets (ao3) -- Bokuaka, T
Akaashi deals with a lot of stupid people.
He isn't yet certain if Bokuto falls into that category.
In which Akaashi is the manager of a movie theater, Bokuto is the new hire at the shoe store downstairs, and the two of them get along much better than Akaashi could have anticipated.
Okay so I was super surprised that this fic didn’t have more kudos! It’s so light hearted and funny, not to mention perfectly sweet! It’s ongoing, but I can’t wait for more. @worthlesspride writes some of the best bokuaka out there, it’s so fluffy and heartwarming, not to mention the writing flows so well! Please read and support it!
Alright, so I’m going to do some self promo because why not? This day is for fic writers too after all lmao.
Perfectly Aligned (ao3) -- Kurotsuki, T
Kuroo didn’t know how he’d made it back here, standing beneath the glistening war machines known as Jaegers. He was the definite outsider, not just at the Shatterdome, but in this world. The world of Jaeger pilots had long since closed its door on him, and now here he was, knocking once again. However, maybe this time, he wouldn’t be alone.
Just a good ol’ Pacific Rim AU. I really loved playing with this universe, and tbh it’s probably some of my best writing?? It didn’t get much attention because I posted it during a busy exchange week, but I’m definitely proud of it and hope more people can read it!
Ceaseless (ao3) -- Kiyoyachi, E
The life of an assassin isn't an easy one. Devoid of morals and full of the criminal underworld's grime , it's a job Kiyoko has always been weirdly perfect at. She's long stopped thinking about why, but just because she kills without remorse, doesn't mean she doesn't have her own attachments.
I’m including this one because f/f ships do not get nearly enough attention as they should. I live for f/f content, and I hope I can read a lot more in the future and introduce ppl to it through fics like this! This fic did not get many kudos, but I think it was actually pretty good writing/smut, so please give it a try if you like kiyoyachi!
Let My Love (ao3) -- Kurotsuki, T
For Kuroo, finding love was all about patience. He had no problem with waiting for the right person to come along, no matter how many awkward dinners or weddings he had to endure as a single man until they did. Regardless, meeting Tsukishima was something he’d never been prepared for. The feelings were overwhelming and intoxicating, ones he was sure he’d do anything for. However, it seemed his endless waiting wasn’t over.
While this fic isn’t short on kudos, I feel like it gets overlooked when compared to my siren au for kurotsuki. While this fic is a bit angstier than Slipping Underneath, it’s one of my most favorite that I’ve ever written. Writing slow burn is a challenge, but I think so far I’m doing well lol?? I love writing this fic, so if you want, I hope you can also enjoy reading it! <3
I Search Through the Crowd (ao3) -- Iwaoi, T
It wasn't uncommon to believe in reincarnation, most people did, but it wasn't some flippant thing. Only people with the strongest of bonds were reincarnated, or so legend put it. Hajime could be dense sometimes, but he didn't miss the meaning Tooru was trying to convey.
"I'll find you."
Lastly, this was my first iwaoi fic, and I was really proud of it even though it didn’t get much attention. It was a struggle to write, but overall, I’m super happy with the result, so I hope you guys can get the chance to read it! I hope I get to write even more iwaoi in the future too!
