I was delighted to see some quite old miniature paintings in a museum on my last trip to Hyderabad (India). A few of the paintings below are also quite old and are in museums.

I use such contemporary paintings in my prayers for India and Christian worship in an Indian context. These images are included here in no particular order. Many of the ragini hold musical instruments or flowers, both symbols in India of worship, adoration and praise. Combined with the Christ-related symbolism of the peacock, these contemporary ‘miniature paintings’ build on a tradition going back a thousand years or so in India and lead to prayer for India’s future.
