Dani will always love Santana even now, she was the girl that got away and Dani regrets letting her go, but she is too prideful to admit it, and seeing Santana being happy with Brittany leaves her melancholy, and often, when she’s drunk, a bit bitter and resentful. She keeps Santana and Britt at a distance and tries her best to fake it as she wrestles with the one that got away.

Dani has a notebook of songs that she’s too shy to share with anyone just yet but she can  be seen singing covers and trying out a few of her originals at the local coffee shop she works at.

Dani had her first time with Santana, it was special and romantic (yet with a little bit of booze in their systems). She hasn’t sleep with anyone else since.

Dani struggles with depression, anxiety and PTSD from her home life. Her father, once her biggest hero, the one she would sit at the pew and watched for hours, turned violent, angry, lashing out at her family. She struggles most when the voices of her past come back to haunt her. .  She escaped to NYC at the pushing and prodding of her grandmother after her father kicked her out of the house.

Dani has a crush on Juliette Fabray, a best friendship that’s beginning to bubble into something more. Dani’s not quite ready to admit to herself what it could mean.

CONNECTIONS

PARENTS: Ramon & Gina Harper. Growing up, Dani, known primarily as Danielle in a small town just outside of Austin was a devoted church kid, the one who taught Sunday school to younger children while her father preached in the next room, or sat at the pews next to her mother. Gina knew that her daughter was gay but her father, a devout Catholic preacher in the bible belt, couldn’t stand to face what that would mean for the church and his reputation. So, she kicked her out. SIBLINGS/OTHER IMPORTANT FAMILY: Grandmother, Grandmother Lila Jean, was the one who took Dani in when her parents kicked her out. Dani talks to her grandmother weekly, if not daily when she’s struggling the most. Juliette spends a lot of time reading at the coffee shop/bookstore that Dani currently works at. Dani gives her free drinks and they chat over the newest book that Juliette is inevitably reading.

Happy pride to 8 year old me who first heard the word lesbian after a classmate called her one just because she enjoyed playing soccer with boys. Although she didn’t know what it meant, she could tell it was meant as an insult and cried to her mom about it.

She started to wonder “why can’t I like both men and women?” but repressed those thoughts for a couple of years.

Happy pride to 17 year old me who was scrolling through tumblr when she came across a gifset of kadena moments and instantly felt butterflies. She proceeded to watch the season that was out and felt Kat was relatable. She pushed those feelings aside for a while.

Happy pride to 18 year old me who started university and met a lesbian, a bisexual girl and a gay boy and had to keep herself from asking how they discovered they weren’t straight.

Happy pride to 21 year old me who saw a gifset of portrait of a lady on fire, felt goosebumps because of the palpable tension between the characters, decided to watch the movie and finally admitted what she already knew “hold up, I’m not straight”.

And finally, happy pride to 22 year old me who irl is very much still in the closet but she feels more comfortable with her identity. I can finally say “I’m bi” and put a label to all those convoluted feelings I’ve felt my whole life. I can say I’ve liked boys. I can also say I’ve liked girls. Anyone in between. I don’t have to choose or “pick a side”. I get to exist, accept and love who I am.

Critic’s notebook: ‘Celebrating America’ promised that daylight is coming.

Inaugural balls are generally thrown for the winners. After a long, hard-fought campaign, the newly elected leaders, their families and their supporters have a chance to dress up and enjoy themselves.

This, like so many things in this pandemic, was not going to happen this year. Instead, “Celebrating America,” the star-filled Inauguration Day special that aired across several networks, took the party national.

This meant, for starters, that the atmosphere was far less partylike. The big reason was written in lights: the Reflecting Pool memorial, in honor of America’s Covid dead, that faced the opening act Bruce Springsteen from his nighttime stage at the Lincoln Memorial. The tone was not one of a victory bash so much as a morale boost.

Which is not to say “Celebrating America” was apolitical. It centered and valorized President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who were in fact the candidates of one party that defeated another in a bitterly fought (and violently contested) election.

It didn’t require you to be happy that they won, but it did at least assume you were capable of being happy for them. Doubtless that is still a deal breaker for some of the country.

But the special’s politics, as framed by the host, Tom Hanks, were less about policy than a kind of diagnosis of political sickness, and a hope for a cure. “In the last few weeks, in the last few years, we’ve witnessed deep divisions and a troubling rancor in our land,” Mr. Hanks said. It was like a telethon for cancer of the body politic.

The show’s politics were open but nonspecific. Mr. Biden, in the shadow of Lincoln, delivered remarks about the triumph of democracy (a repudiation of the antidemocratic attacks on the election, but only between the lines).

Ms. Harris said that in America, “We not only see what has been, we see what can be,” citing the civil rights and women’s rights movements. You could read in a reference to her election, which broke racial and gender barriers, but she left you to do that yourself.

Likewise, when the former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama appeared to wish Mr. Biden well and talk about shared American values, they didn’t need to point a finger at Donald J. Trump for America’s toxicity. We’d already seen him ourselves — or didn’t see him, pointedly, at his opponent’s inauguration.

As an entertainment show, “Celebrating America” kept its aesthetic, like its politics, basic and broad. (No one expects, or wants, edginess from a Joe Biden production.) The roster of stars wasn’t exactly apolitical: the fact that Mr. Trump was never able to assemble a Hollywood roster like this was no accident.

But the cast and the art was aggressively normie and mainstream, and the performances stuck to a theme: hope in a dark time.

The songs referenced the dark and the light and the dawn: John Legend performing “Feeling Good,” Demi Lovato doing “Lovely Day,” Jon Bon Jovi covering the Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun.” The nighttime performances’ settings, too, emphasized bringing light to the darkness, even before Katy Perry performed “Firework” to actual fireworks over the Mall.

The subtext of “Celebrating America” was inevitably political: politics gets countries into big problems, and public action is often the only way out of them. (In pandemic America, even having members of a country band wear face masks on stage inevitably and sadly feels like a political statement.)

But the content was more the entertainment-politics equivalent of a chain restaurant with a big menu: it wasn’t going to be anyone’s favorite, but everyone could find something on the menu for them. And what the country was hungriest for right now, “Celebrating America” guessed, was to believe, with Jon Bon Jovi, that the long, cold, lonely winter would end, and the sun would come.

What are your favorite subjects? I already have a diploma in Graphic Design and now I’m studying Visual, Interaction and Concept Design.

What are your favorite movies? I love so many movies, that it’s impossible to just pick one. A couple of my favorites are: The Beauty Inside, Moulin Rouge, The Notebook, Harry Potter, Mulan.

What are you favorite pastimes? Listening to music, watching movies and TV shows, going shopping, hanging out with friends, traveling, reading and sleeping.   Do you have any regrets? A lot of them, but I’m really trying to see them as life lessons instead of regrets. Every day I’m trying to become more the person I want to be.

What is your dream job? I want to be a visual creative director or a stylist.

Would you like to get married? Yes, I would love to get married someday.

Do you want kids? How many? I want two kids.

How many countries have you visited? Korea, America, United Kingdom, Scotland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Malta. Maybe I’m forgetting some but those are the ones I remember. What was your scariest dream? One night I dreamt that I was sleeping and someone was trying to put my cover over my head so that I couldn’t breath. But at the same time that person was holding on to my arms so that I couldn’t move. And most of the time I know that I’m dreaming, because I have this weird thing that I can wake my self up if I don’t want to continue to dream anymore. But this time I couldn’t wake my self up and I couldn’t move. So when I finally woke up and felt that my arm was hurting. So I went to my bathroom and looked at my arm and there was a huge red handprint on it. I was so fucking scared that I just decided to stay awake that night. What I think that happend is that in my dream I was probably holding on to my arm but it really looked like it came straight out of a horror movie. I still have a picture to prove it haha!
