Well... I broke my foot 3 times... so I got my leg x-rayed quite a few times. I had to get a lungs x-ray when I moved to Japan. My teeth, of course, like a gazzilion times. Not x-ray, but I got a few brain MRIs done, too.

I just wanted to let you know that I crack up laughing every time I see your Attack on Titan dub commentary. Thank you for your content I love it all.😀

In that case I’ll share with you another thing that blows my fuckin mind about the dub:

The second part ofthe first season opens with a song called “Fügel der Freïheit” (Wings of Freedom) and the openingstanza to that song is:

Ah, mein Freund,Jetzt heirist ein Seig!Dies ist dererste Glorie!Ah mein Freund!Feiren wirdieses SeigFür [or Vor, i’m not sure] den nachtsesKampf!

Which roughly (roughly because I’m bad at German) translates to:

Ah my friend, Finally, here is a victory!This is the first glory!Ah my friend,Celebrate this victoryFor [Or before] the next struggle!

and this is a very important bit of the song bc it explains why the FUCKING SONG CHANGED in the middle of the anime??? It introduces the fact that humanity is transitioning to a point in history where, FOR ONCE, they have the upper hand on the titans?? Also, it makes it clear that our protagonist (Eren) is in a different mindset now, because of that victory.

and the dub does NOT TRANSLATE IT. It translates the rest of the song! It translates all of the Japanese parts. But none of the German parts.

And I understand that the Funimation translation staff are Japanese translators. That’s good, that’s cool. But could they not have? Called up someone who speaks German on the phone? To translate five lines of a song?

Also, the bits of German sprinkled through the song aren’t translated either. Which means that the part of the song which I think is the most beautiful, which is “With glory in our hands, we are singing of victory, bearing the wings of freedom on our backs” shows up on the dub translation only as “In both hands, Gloria, what sings is Seig, on my back, Fügel der Freïheit” which is just??? SO MUCH WORD SALAD that means NOTHING to ANYBODY

I mean, the song is CALLED “Fügel der Freïheit” because the anime is now focusing on the survey corps. It doesn’t even translate the name of the song.
