Escapism: Overshadowing and Intangibility
Part 6.1 of Heirs Apparent | AO3
Masterlist
There was a time when Jason didn't believe in being saved. He knew himself what it was like to cling uselessly to hope, to wait for someone—anyone—to come to him at the right moment. He only believed in relying on himself, to wiggle out of a bad situation somehow until he could get away. Even now, he didn't want to stand still, despite the triplets fiercely battling each other. Yet he felt a sliver of helplessness, thinking that they wouldn't stand a chance against a horde of assassins.
Then amidst the inner and outer conflicts, he finally saw it: the true image of a savior.
By the name of Talia al Ghul.
"Hello, dears." She smiled. "Follow me, I'll lead you to the escape route."
Seeing Talia was . . . a breath of fresh air. During his time with her, Jason wouldn't have expected her to have children. But it wouldn't be surprising if she were protective of them.
"Why should we?" Dick asked warily.
She narrowed her eyes. "Because my children are risking their lives creating a distraction."
True enough, the three were still at each other's throats. When Jason took a look, he saw Danyal on top of Marinette with a knife, while the latter was aiming a rifle at him. But he caught the girl's feral grin when she aimed the gun not at her brother's head, but at the upper deck with the League elders in it.
"You gave them a signal," Tim concluded out loud, eyes wide.
Jason easily followed Talia when she plunged back in the darkness, with his brothers taking hesitant steps behind him. In that situation, there was no one else to trust but her. No, Jason was confident that she would lead them to safety. She guided them back through the winding paths, where there was a trail of knocked-out assassins.
"So . . ." Jason trailed off. "The triplets, huh?"
"Which one have you met?"
"Marinette."
Jason stared at the back of her head. He wished he could see the kind of expression she was making.
"My precious girl," said Talia, "I thought it was better to hide them away."
"I think it was better that way, too."
She only nodded at that. She must've sacrificed a lot . . . Jason thought, to keep her children alive. He hadn't known Marinette (or Danyal) before that time, and she barely talked about her mother. But he saw Talia in her, more than just from her looks. Her snappy remarks were all Talia. Her sharp gaze was all Talia. Her fighting style was similar to the one Talia had taught him.
Hell, even Damian had resembled Talia more than Bruce. And that boy spoke about his mother with pride albeit only on occasion.
They reached the bottom of a staircase when another set of footsteps echoed on the stone walls. Then, a voice rang out from a passage to their right. "Umi!"
Marinette fell into Talia's embrace, head buried on her mother's shoulder. Jason gave some distance for the sake of their reunion, seeing how Marinette appeared so vulnerable.
Talia placed her hands on Marinette's shoulders after they parted. "Listen, my love, I can't be with you the whole way."
"What?"
The woman looked at the path where Marinette came from. "I have to settle things with the opposing faction. But you must escape quickly."
"But . . . but Damian and Danyal haven't seen you yet."
"I'm sorry, Habibti."
Jason could tell Marinette wanted to hold her back, but Talia headed towards the other way in the blink of an eye. He could see that Marinette was about to follow but he stepped forward to stop her.
"She wants you to get out of here," Jason told her firmly. "You know her. She'll be fine."
Although the tension hadn't left her fists and she still seemed distracted, Marinette stopped herself and continued along the main passageway.
"We haven't seen her in so long," she mumbled, but then shook her head and faced the three of them. "That reminds me, you at least need something to defend yourselves with."
Immediately, she started removing all kinds of weapons on her person (Jason didn't even know how she was able to carry all of it). Tim gaped at her. "How many weapons did you take?"
"Enough."
She tossed a pair of Escrima sticks to Dick, a retractable staff for Tim, and a pair of handguns and small blades to Jason. Jason noticed she kept a small gun and a knife for herself as well. He was reminded of some rumors during his time in the League: there was once an assassin skilled in handling guns, perhaps the best the League had ever seen. Now that he thought about it, no one ever specified that it was a man.
"Where's Damian and Danyal?" Dick asked.
"The separate gates we went into never lead to connecting paths until the exit. An assassin under Mother's faction told us," Marinette relayed. "It got messy in the arena, but we decided to split up so we could rescue the hostages."
"But why return to the same gate?"
She shrugged. "Caught up in the moment. We didn't notice which gate was which so I guess I'm back here with you. If Mother's plans are going well, the others should be on their way out as well."
Easier said than done, thought Jason. There were rumbles heard from afar, scuffles that could only be the clashing of both League factions.
Marinette glanced behind them. "There are assassins following. Let's hurry."
The dark path seemed unending but they picked up their paces, going straight. Footsteps began to sound out louder—Jason knew they'd have to fight back.
The girl in front of them gasped. "A dead end?"
Before Jason could move, Marinette turned back, pushing past them. "I can hold them back."
"There's too many. We'll help," Dick offered.
"No. As soon as they're caught off guard, go and find another path to the exit."
"We're not letting you handle all of them on your own," Jason insisted, "You'll definitely die. It's not fun dying."
She scoffed. "I've died thirty-six times, Jason. You're not special."
". . . What?"
Gunshots rang out of the blue as Marinette wounded the assassins one by one with a careful aim. Yeah, there's no way in hell we're leaving her here, Jason decided. He lunged for an attack, facing their assailants head on and using his knife on them. His brothers followed suit, much to Marinette's voiced protest.
Suddenly, an assassin stopped on his own, pausing as if paralyzed and suddenly banged his head on the wall to drop down unconscious. Others mimicked the same movement though doing so one by one.
"What the fuck?" Jason heard Tim whisper under his breath.
"Danny?" Marinette lowered her gun.
"Oh you rang?" The voice of a child echoed in the tunnel just as the last body dropped. "Wait, you mean Danny with a 'y'?"
As if the day couldn't get stranger, a little girl materialized in front of them from a wisp of . . . something otherworldly, yet strangely familiar to Jason. The only way he could describe her is that she looked like a younger version of Marinette.
"Ellie," Marinette blinked in surprise. "You're Ellie, aren't you?"
The girl, 'Ellie', crossed her arms while looking at Marinette. "How do you know my name? How do you know my brother?"
"Because he's my brother, too."
What? Jason's head was spinning.
"Danny doesn't have other siblings," Ellie narrowed her eyes.
"That you know of," Marinette said, "For now, you just have to trust us, okay? We have to get out of here."
"But Danny and Jazz—"
"Should also be on their way out," Marinette cut her off. "Do you know how to get out of here? Did you come here alone?"
The little girl grimaced, "Ehm, technically Sam and Tuck are with me but I just got ahead of them. Oh! But I met Batman and these two cool heroes on the way here. We split up after we connected comms but I lost the signal."
"Batman? You met Batman?" Dick repeated.
"Uh, yeah the old man."
"The two heroes, who were they?" Marinette's face twisted into a frown.
"Viperion and Ryuko!" Ellie's blue eyes practically glittered. "They were really cool. I want to be like them."
When Jason looked at Marinette, her face was unreadable. On top of that, Jason didn't expect Bruce to actually come to the base on his own without backup.
"Are we not going to talk about how you two look alike?" Tim chimed in. "And what the fuck just happened? Did those assassins just . . . die?"
"Oh yeah, we do look alike." Ellie's eyebrows raised, like she had just realized it.
"Um, hello?" Tim poked an unconscious assassin with his foot. "Are they dead?"
"I overshadowed them."
"Over-what?"
Meanwhile, Marinette sighed and rubbed her head. "It's a long story but not my story to tell. We should focus on getting out of here. Ellie, do you know the way out?"
"It's over there." Ellie gestured towards the supposed dead end. "That wall actually opens up."
The child glides past them and disappears into the wall. Jason had to do a double take. A few seconds later, the wall makes a rumble and a portion of it slides to the right to reveal a narrow opening.
"Um, again, what the fuck," Tim stared at the new pathway in astonishment.
Marinette's shoulders visibly sagged in relief. "Thanks, Ellie. We have to hurry; more assassins might be behind us."
----
Danny was pretty sure the boom they just heard was an explosion. He ran through the shaking tunnels, feeling the dust sprinkle on top of him. They want to stop our escape, he cursed inwardly, and also the other faction. Looking behind him, he could see the three Parisians running their breaths ragged.
He closed his fists. If things get worse, I might be forced to transform. Them too.
"Umm, does this count as an emergency to transform?!" Chloe shrieked after another cacophony of blasts reverberated.
"Save your transformations," Danny told them before Adrien could reply. "We don't have a way to recharge your kwamis if your timers run out. I'll protect you."
"Are you gonna enlighten us how?" Alix asked.
Danny was planning to make up a lame half-truthful explanation when they saw that their path was obstructed. Rubble covered up the entirety of the opening, creating a dead end in the small passage.
"Is there another way out?" Adrien breathed out.
No . . . we'd have to come back all the way where we came from. Danny clenched his jaw. Mother's attendant said this was our only path.
"I can transform and Cataclysm—"
"No." Danny made his voice firm. "We don't know the extent of its destruction. This whole tunnel might collapse . . . I have an idea."
He gulped down his uncertainties and turned around to face them. "Everyone hold hands. We're going through this."
Alix tilted her head. "What? Have you actually lost your mind?"
Danny held his hand out. "Just trust me on this, alright? It's the only way."
The other hesitantly formed a link: Alix at the rear, Chloe in front of her, then Adrien taking Danny's hand. The blonde boy seemed to recoil a little when he felt his skin. "Um . . . your hand's really cold."
Despite the situation, Danny chuckled. "So I've been told." He checked the path where they came from in case there were pursuers. "Listen . . . whatever you do, don't let go."
Chloe huffed. "That definitely doesn't sound ominous."
"Just relax. This'll be quick."
Tugging the group forwards, Danny turned intangible and passed it on to the rest. They swiftly walked through the rubble, reaching the other side of the blockage. Fortunately, the rest of the path seemed open.
"What the heck was that?!" Chloe gawked at their surroundings.
"You can let go now." Danny ran a hand through his hair. "It's a power of mine. It's hard to explain in detail right now but it has something to do with me being half-ghost."
"I'm sorry, half-ghost?" Adrien's eyes widened.
"This and that happened and now I'm half-dead," Danny smiled, looking at their different reactions. Adrien looked like he had just obtained a puzzle piece about an oddity. Alix was looking at her hands, muttering to herself. Chloe's expression said something like 'am I being ridiculed right now?'
"Don't think too much about it—"
Danny stopped, sensing a presence ahead of them. A presence nearing them. He moved forward, ready to shield the others if things turn south, then he saw who had just approached them.
"Damian?" A gravelly voice rang out.
Danny calmed his stance. "I'm not Damian."
Batman seemed to have reacted but he kept silent. Danny wished he could see behind the cowl. Sure, I wanted to meet him someday but Ancients, why now?!
"Huh, you are shorter than I expected, Mr. Batman sir." Danny gazed at the masked figure of his biological father.
"That's really Batman?!" Chloe whispered behind him.
"We're currently headed to the exit," Danny explained with a steady tone. "The others are separated but they should be on their way out too. I'm Danny and these are Adrien, Chloe, and Alix."
Batman, too, took on a more professional demeanor. "You match the description of the ones who went missing in the bus incident. But the ones I came here for—"
"I said they should be on their way out too, old man." Dami-akhi wasn't kidding when he said the old man was crazy stubborn. But then again, we all got it from him. "You're not getting through that rubble. It's blocked. So please escort us to the exit, 'kay?"
"How did you get through?" Batman pressed on.
". . . It's a secret." Danny put a finger to his lips. "Can we get a move on now? This place can go kaboom any second you know."
The vigilante finally relented, turning the other way to lead them along the path. Danny could hear the three conversing among themselves, debating why Batman would go through the effort of rescuing the Wayne children in a faraway location.
"Do you know an 'Ellie'?" Batman asked suddenly.
Danny stiffened for a moment. "Ellie? Ellie's here?"
"Yes, we met at the entrance and split up at a fork along with two other heroes, Ryuko and Viperion. I lost contact with them a while ago as well as the Batplane, which Samantha Manson and Tucker Foley are piloting."
This girl . . . He didn't expect her to actually get herself involved. And Tucker and Sam are here too?! A part of him wanted to tell off Batman for not stopping them, but he knew how persistent they were. Especially Ellie, who was an entire force to reckon with on her own.
Tucker and Sam are piloting the Batplane. Ancients, my friends are crazy.
"Shit. Ryuko and Viperion are here too?" Adrien caught up with Danny's pace.
"Parisian local heroes?" Batman asked.
Adrien held his tongue and looked away. Danny made a mental note to help steer the conversation away from the topic of Paris and Miraculi if anything came up.
"I have to ask you as well, Daniel, what your relation is to Damian Wayne and Marinette Dupain-Cheng?"
Wow, interrogation time already? Danny let out a scream of frustration in his head. Can we, like, escape from here first?
"It's just Danny." He kept his expression neutral. "And isn't it obvious, Batman? They're my siblings."

Spiderverse fans are really starting to be annoying...
Imagine seeing a cute ship edit of Mile Morales x Marinette Dupain-Cheng, yet you wanna mock and make mean comments because of course "ML bad amirite?" and try to say that Marinette is racist because of a non-canon comic that isn't even made by Thomas and ignoring the fact Marinette canonically has two black friends.
And then they wonder why I'm not watching the movie and why their fanbase is called toxic.

How would the E-63 Robins get along with Marie?
Dami: grills her with invasive questions until she determines Marie isn't a threat, then is probably pretty chill around her
Tiff: has no filter or social awareness, asks what it's like to be assimilated
Jessie: gets along with most people like sandpaper but as long as Marie doesn't bother her, she won't bother Marie
Ricki: honestly Marie is probably Ricki's type lol she'd definitely flirt with her

Daminette December 2023: 17-Bodyguard
Damian had heard the whispers and rumors when he first moved to Paris. Marinette Dupain-Cheng, the baker's daughter and fashion designer had been head over heels for Adrien Agreste, the model. That had been years ago. Some of their friends refused to believe she moved on from her gigantic crush. He had heard the whispers of how she babbled and froze with just a glance. How she had memorized his schedule and planned their future together. He had heard how she had fallen for him with a simple gesture of giving her his umbrella in the rain. The only thing that had ever stopped them from getting together was how blind Adrien was. He never saw Marinette was anything more than a friend and everyone knew it. That might have been true; all of it. Damian knew that Marinette no longer felt like that, if it had ever been true.
From what he observed, Adrien was the one now persuing the baker's daughter. If any of it had been true, Marinette had long moved on. Adrien was constantly trying to get her attention and would search the halls for her. If anything, the roles had reversed. Adrien Agreste now stalked Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
Adrien Agreste was still 'blind' in his book. The model took zero notice how Marinette reacted to being around him. He noticed the subtle flinches when Adrien called her name from down the hall. He noticed the terror in her eyes, before putting a smile on her face to greet a friend.
Damian froze the moment he saw her.
'Marinette? What is she doing here? I thought she couldn't have a pet in the bakery. Why is she in the pet store?'
His eyes followed her as she moved away from the front and towards the middle. She was almost hidden by the shelves.
'Hamsters?'
"Marinette!" Adrien shouted, "Do you like hamsters, too?"
"Uh, sort of." she answered, weakly.
"They're amazing!" he cried back, getting closer to her and the hamsters.
Even from where Damian stood, he could see Marinette's eyes were searching for a way out; an exit. He quickly put down the giant bag of dog food and rushed over.
"There you are Marinette." he spoke, pulling her towards him.
"Damian!" Mari exclaimed, surprised.
"Did you get lost?" he asked, "I apologize for getting so busy."
"You work here?" Adrien asked, "Why?"
"I volunteer." Damian answered, "I donate to several animal charities nd I like to make sure all the equipment is up to date."
"We can go see the puppies on files now." The Wayne heir suggested, "You said you were looking for a guard dog?"
Marinette lit up quickly, realizing Damian was giving her a way out.
"I'm so glad you remembered." she smiled.
"A dog?" Adrien asked, confused, "What about the hamster?"
"Oh." Mari spoke, "Well, I do think hamsters are cute, but with how scattered brain I get, I might forget instantly. I could forget to feed it or accidentally kill it with a giant roll of fabric." causing the model to wince.
"A dog is better." Marinette stated, "Their routine would be my routine."
"But why a guard dog?" he questioned.
"Why do you have a bodyguard?" Damian asked.
"Huh?" confusing the model.
"Guard dogs keep their owners safe." the Wayne heir answered, "They are loyal to a fault and will attack, if necessary." pulling Marinette closer to him.
Marinette blushed at the closeness. She quickly placed a hand on his chest to get his attention.
"We should go look at those files." She suggested, "You mentioned....training and I wan to make sure they are trained before university."
"Of course." Damian replied, leading Marinette to the back room and away from Adrien's prying eyes.
Damian picked up a radio to give the other workers a warning about Agreste. On the security cameras, he watched as the blonde model turned away and walk out the store.
'Seemed Marinette was his only goal here.'
Marinette sighed in relief as Damian placed the radio down.
"Thank you, Damian." Marinette spoke.
He nodded his head in understanding.
"But how did you know?" Mari asked.
"You are uncomfortable with him." Damian stated.
Marinette nodded her head.
"You look scared when you hear him call out your name in school." Damian spoke, "Sometimes, you turn pale. Doesn't seem like he notices."
"I thought no one noticed." Marinette answered, with a smile, "Thank you so much."
Damian chuckled, "Now, would you actually like a guard dog?"
"I would love one," Mari sighed, "but since I still live with my parents-"
"The bakery." The Wayne heir concluded.
She nodded her head and gave a shrug. Damian went over to a drawer and pulled out some files for an adoption event taking place soon. Marinette looked at him confused.
"It would not matter if I brought another dog home. At this point, it's expected. You would just have to wait." Damian stated.
Marinette smiled happily, "Really?"
"Only if you do not mind coing over to bond with your dog." he declared.
Marinette hugged him and quickly felt him flinch.
"Sorry!" she cried, pulling away from him, "Um, I'll just look at these."
Marinette browsed over the files he had handed her. Damian could tell she was seriously considering the guard dog idea. She started by ruling out the smaller dogs, he expected someone like her to own. By the end of her selection, she had five folders left.
"What do you think, Damian?" Mari asked, "Is there any of them I should rule out?"
Damian looked over the folders. There was a Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepard, Doberman, and an Akita.
"Two of these would make great pets, but not guard dogs." He spoke, "I believe you should look online and learn more about them before deciding. You need to make sure you can take care of them. I don't just mean their diet and health. There are many people who return animals because they have gotten bored or because they didn't expect how much time they would have to use to train it."
Marinette smiled, "Thank you. I can tell you really care about these animals. I can let you know by the end of the week."
Mari stood up, ready to leave. She bit her lip in hesitation.
"Are you alright?" He questioned.
"Um." She began, "Nevermind. It's stupid."
"What is it?" Damian asked, "You clearly think it is important. Why do you hesitate?"
Marinette blushed, "Do you think, until I get a guard dog- Can you be my guard dog? Bodyguard! I meant bodyguard; not guard dog! At school! Keep Adrien away from me?"
Damian chuckled, "I wouldn't mind at all."
Mari lit up at his response, "Oh! I can bring you breakfast! Are there any pastries you prefer?"
"I prefer savory over sweets." he answered.
"I can make savory tarts for you." She replied.
With a nod, Marinette left the back room and quickly left the store.
'Guard dog, huh?'
Adrien looked around and spotted Marinette already at school. He couldn't wait to see her and talk to her more about hamsters. As he made his way towards her, he watched as she made her way over to Damian. To his surprise, and likely everyone's surprise, Marinette latched onto his arm. Damian didn't seem to mind and led her away.
Damian smirked as Marinette latched onto his arm. He had seen Adrien arrive and watched as Marinette quickly made her way over to him. He hadn't expected the physical contact, but after he initiated it yesterday, she likely expected it. Damian quickly led her away from prying eyes and hushed whispers. As they walked away, he leaned down to her ear.
"Woof." he barked.
He hadn't expected her to squeak, let alone blush. He chuckled as Marinette puffed up her cheeks and let go of his arm. Cheeks still flushed, she hurried into the school. Damian turned back and caught Adrien staring at them in shock. Damian sent a glare his way before following after Marinette.

Maribat March - Prompt 10
~
"He gave me a diamond the size of my fist! You can't tell anyone though; the paparazzi would be all over us." Lila loudly proclaimed from across the cafeteria. Marinette scoffed, throwing a disgusted sneer over her shoulder at the Italian. This was the fifth celebrity engagement story. She wondered just how she got unfortunate enough to be surrounded by these idiots. She could kill everyone in this room in two minutes flat, and yet, she had to restrain herself for the sake of the mission. Keep playing the role of meek little 'Mari', keep pretending she wasn't one of the most skilled assassins in the world. Stupid Hawkmoth. Because of some random ass dude, she was stuck among these sheeple.
She quickly left the cafeteria, exiting the school and heading to the bakery. She greeted Sabine - a member of the Order of the Miraculous and one of her old handlers - and climbed the stairs to her room. Just a little longer. She was so close to finding the man who had enough audacity to steal from the Order. And Hawkmoth, him too.
Her phone rang, startling her out of her inner monologue. It was Damian, her betrothed. She happily answered, the smile on her face genuine for once. 'Habibti. How was your day?' He asked, an odd whirring echoing in the background. 'Have you stabbed the harlot yet?'
She rolled her eyes, the smile on her face persisting. "It was fine. And no, I have not stabbed Lila, as much as I may want to. It's annoying, but it's helping my cover. She keeps the idiots from following me around, and it makes easier to search Paris for the lousy fake-Guardian and whatever asshat he let take the Butterfly."
'And you're still sure you would not like me to join you and help?'
She sighed, the conversation a common one since she was sent to Paris. "I've got this, Dami. Besides, you wouldn't last five minutes here. I love you, but you are very temperamental."
He squawked angrily, and she could picture the offended look on his face, his jade green eyes crinkling adorably. 'I am not temperamental! You seem to be forgetting just how many of our trainers you sent to the infirmary.'
She rolled her eyes. "They were misogynistic pricks, and you know it."
'I was not arguing that they weren't, Habibti, merely stating that you extensively hurt each of them. In fact, I am quite glad for what you did. Had you not, Mother never would have seen fit to have us betrothed.'
Marinette smiled happily at the memory, standing in the middle of the large al-Ghul throne room in ceremonial garb, opposite Damian in matching robes. "Yeah." She glanced at the clock on the wall and cursed. "Sorry, Dami. I need to head back. Call you back later?"
'Of course. I love you, Habibti.' He answered curtly, though she could tell he was peeved at being cut off. "I love you too."
She came back to excited whispers throughout the classroom, and a huddle around Lila's desk. Marinette rolled her eyes, heading towards her own desk at the back of the room. Except...
She was stopped in her tracks by one whispered word. 'Damian'. There were plenty of Damians in the world, and several rich ones Lila could be claiming she's engaged to; but what if? Marinette continued up the stairs, but kept an ear on the conversation at the front.
'Wayne'.
Marinette clenched her teeth. They were talking about Damian. Her Damian. She'd seen articles and heard rumors before, right after Damian's debut as a billionaire's son, but something about hearing her beloved's name come from that liar's mouth made her see green. She was fuming, trying to force away the murderous haze. She was chosen for this mission specifically because of the ease it took to banish the Pit's influence from her mind, and she was not going to let Lila of all people ruin it for her.
At the front of the room, the door slammed open. Marinette's mind screeched to a halt, because standing there in all of his glory was Damian. She shot to her feet and raced down the stairs before she registered what she was doing. He was here, right in front of her! She flung her arms around him, squeezing tight.
"Hello, Habibti." He whispered in her ear, squeezing her back. "What are you doing here?" She asked, pulling back to look at him. "Father found something. Camera footage of the akumas, and an identity, over a hundred and twenty years old. They're going after them now." He said, a happy gleam in his eye despite the lack of emotion on his face. Marinette grinned widely. Her mission is over! She can go back to Nanda Parbat - or Gotham!
"Marinette, what's going on?"
She turned around abruptly, remembering their audience. "Who is this?" Alya was front and center, glaring at her accusingly. Marinette's mind was whirling, trying to find an in-character way to answer. Except they found them. The false Guardian and the Butterfly. She didn't have to keep up her cover anymore. She grinned, her true smile, not the meek thing she'd developed the past few months.
She watched as Lila's little lapdog recoiled, enjoying the effect she finally got to have on her classmates. Marinette stalked forward, easily falling back into her natural gait. The walk of a predator. "I'm happy to announce that I'm done! I don't have to sit here and pretend anymore! You're all horribly stupid, and it was definitely not a pleasure to have known you." She let her smile widen to that terrifying degree that always made her targets believe she was inhuman. She never dissuaded those thoughts, instead encouraging them. "And you, Lila Rossi. You are a lying sociopath, and to be honest, I can respect that! But you chose to put my beloved's name in your mouth, and you've made me mad. Unfortunately for you, that is an unpleasant situation to be in."
"M-Marinette?" Alya tripped backwards on the steps, falling on her butt. She was ignored. Marinette's focus was on Lila, the repulsive girl who dared to soil her beloved's name with her tongue. To her credit, Lila was managing to hold eye contact with Marinette, even if it was in paralysis. "Tell me," Marinette slammed her hands on the lying girl's desk. "Do you do any research before you decide to spread rumors?"
Lila was pale and shaking, her mouth a thin line. She didn't answer. "You do, don't you? You recognize my beloved, and you realize your house of lies is toppling around you." Marinette ended with a whisper, her face inches from the Italian's.
The room was silent, everyone's focus on the scene before them. On the way Marinette's personality did a complete one-eighty and froze everyone in their spots. Well, everyone except for the boy. He was staring at Marinette in adoration, hands clasped behind him as he watched his betrothed tear into her hemorrhoid of the last several months. His phone buzzed in his pocket, the only sound in the room. "Habibti. It's done."
Marinette whirled around, her sunshine smile back. "Then why are we still here?" She linked arms with the boy and left the room in stunned silence.
(The LoA and The Order are the same organization under different names)

Dami has died officially four times (Batman Inc. #8, RSOB #13, Teen Titans (2016) #41, Robin (2021) #1) while on duty, during which he was introduced three potential love interests (Emiko Queen, Djinn, Flatline, in comics) before he reached 13.
These excluding those deaths from elseworld versions, and Mari Grayson (Kingdom Come, fiance), Raven (DCAU, dating), Kami Garcia (Teen Titans & Robin, kissed).
So yea there is a reason I immersed myself with DC fanon ✨

An interaction between Tim and Damian popped into my head so I thought to put it and others that came up down for ya'll.
The different dynamics of the two pairs of Batboys when they're taking care of each other.
Dick and Jason in Dick's apartment
Dick: (has a nasty headcold, whining) But Jay Jay...
Jason: For the love of.. no. Your fridge is filthy Dickwing and you have nothing in here except leftover pizza. I'm making you Alfred's chicken soup and then you... will... sleep. Even if I have to duct tape you to the bed.
Jason: What the hell why don't you have any pots in here?
2. Jason and Dick in Jason's apartment
Jason: (on Day 3 of nursing a concussion) Fu*k off you mother hen, why are you still here?
Dick: I have to make you lunch, which is hard enough with the lights off without you whining. I told you, I'm not leaving until you can at least make yourself soup. Now, I'm going to put on an audiobook for you, which one do you want?
Jason: Falkner by Mary Shelley?
Dick: Sure bud, I'll find the one with the best narrator for you, now lay down.
3. Tim and Damian in Tim's room at the manor.
Damian: Timothy... what do you think you are you looking for?
Tim: Damian, where is my backup tablet?
Damian: Tt... do not be foolish Timothy. Grandfather and I both told you that you had to limit your screentime to six hours a day. Since we feared you jostling your legs retrieving your backup devices, which I remind you are both in traction rigs and not to be moved without due care, last night we scoured the entirety of your bedroom and especially your bed for all of your hidden devices. They have been placed upon the dresser where they will stay until your screentime may begin.
Tim: Damian, I have two broken legs, what do you expect me to do all day?
Damian: I have brought your lunch, grandfather made your favorite. Afterwards we shall draw and listen, I have found a podcast you may like. If you attempt to retrieve your devices, I am not above placing Alfred upon your chest to immobilize you further.
Tim: Sigh... alright Dames, thanks for lunch.
4. Damian and Tim in Damian's room at the manor
Damian: What's the meaning of this Timothy?
Tim: You're still suffering from the aftereffects of fear toxin Dami, the tremors will keep you from painting.
Damian: Art distracts me Timothy, I need distraction from... what do you propose as an alternative activity.
Tim: For too long I have been remiss in my duties as an older sibling to you, it's time to show you, Avatar. I've cleared my afternoon, so we should be able to at least get through Book One.
Damian: Tt, I have not always been impressed by your media likes Timothy, this had better be good.

Fight for the Throne: Obsession
Part 5.2 of Heirs Apparent | AO3
Masterlist
CW: Blood, killing, violence, PTSD
When Danny was first discovering how his ghosts and the Ghost Zone worked, he wondered if the people he had killed ever turned to ghosts. On one end of his thoughts, he somewhat felt relieved that lives he cut too short could still be anchored to the Infinite Realms. On the other hand, he was worried if  any of his targets ever sought vengeance.  So when he was crowned king, he kept an eye out for familiar faces—so far, he encountered none from his past. Not even (Ancients forbid) Ra's al Ghul himself.
But he didn't necessarily remember all of his kills. Except for one.
The rain was pouring that night. The ground was reduced into sludges of mud, and lightning cackled every minute or so. Danny dragged himself down a steep incline, breathing hard as he pressed down on the gash on his shoulder. He had taken a bad hit from where he was stationed, but he was able to complete his kills once he disarmed his opponents.
He frantically scanned the area despite the darkness and raindrops veiling his sight. It was their first mission together, the three of them tasked to slay a handful of assassins who had broken away from the League. Unfortunately, their communicators had shut down an hour ago, so he was left to blindly look for his brother and sister.
Danny stumbled down the path, earning more cuts on his knees. He clenched his jaw, used his bloodied sword as leverage, and pulled himself to his feet. He needed to find them. He needed to make sure they were okay.
He suppressed a scream when his wound stung, drops lightly touching the torn skin. "You can't go back without them," he whispered to himself, "You can't go back yet."
Finally he reached the bottom of the terrain and found his siblings.
But with an assailant.
Marinette was down on the ground with head bleeding and her foot twisted at an odd angle, but she was trying to crawl her way to Damian. She was screaming something that Danny couldn't make out in the rain. Damian was locked underneath an assassin, open wound on his thigh and the side of his abdomen. His sword was on the ground out of his reach. The attacker was ready to swing his sword at the boy's throat—
Danny saw red. He ran and tackled the assassin, putting himself on top and began stabbing his chest with his katana. The movements of his arms were persistent, push pull push pull push pull—one of his gloved hands held his weapon by the blade while the other curled around the hilt. He cried out in anguish, how dare he hurt them—must protectprotectprotectPROTECT killkillkillkillkillKILL
"—nyal!"
His fingers wouldn't stop, his eyes remained on his victim's body as his vision blurred around the edges, and the movements became so familiar. Even as his chest heaved and his wound burned he could only think of one thing at that moment.
"Danyal!"
He drove his weapon again and again, never stopping, never pausing even once. Whoever hurt those he loved must suffer, must be punished—
"DANYAL!"
He halted, snapping out of his trance. Danny looked down to see the assassin motionless, blood splattered around the body and on himself. He choked and his eyes widened, seeing himself so stained red for the first time from a kill done by his own hands. He hadn't even noticed that the threat was dead.Turning around, he saw his brother and sister staring at him.
"That's enough, akhi," Marinette told him somberly.
Damian followed with his own monotonous voice. "We have everyone cleared out. We must return soon."
Danny couldn't say anything. He got up wordlessly, strapped his katana back on, and followed his siblings up the trail. Marinette hobbled on one foot, leaning against Damian for support while he followed close behind them, keeping an eye out for any more danger.
The memory was cruelly seared into Danny's head. On some nights, he could still feel his arms going up and down in a stabbing motion, reminding him of his origins. Such thoughts made him believe that he wasn't actually worthy of becoming King, despite the Ancients' constant speeches about fate.
---
Adrien didn't know what to make of the situation. He had already told Chloe and Alix to keep their kwamis hidden in case they were being watched. Fortunately, their kidnappers hadn't taken away their Miraculi. Unfortunately, not being able to transform left them too few options for escape.
"This humidity is not helping my hair," Chloe cried out for the umpteenth time, tugging at her blonde locks.
"I think we have more important problems than your hair," Alix deadpanned, leaning her cheek against her fist.
Chloe brought the back of her hands up to eye level as she pouted. "You're right, my nails chipped off too."
Meanwhile, Adrien slid his gaze over to the stranger who was in the cell with them. The boy, who looked about their age, had been in the same room when they had woken up. They hadn't spoken a word to him, and he hadn't looked their way either.
Adrien shifted, reaching over to tap Alix on the shoulder. He assumed the stranger didn't speak French, so he asked in their mother language, "Alix, do you . . . know anything about what's happening?"
Alix made a face that Adrien could only read as frustration. "Not yet grown Alix, remember?" She replied in the same hushed tone. "And no, she hasn't told me anything."
Chloe snorted and crossed her arms.
"But I think . . ." The red-haired girl took a deep breath. "I think if this is something that drastically changes the timeline, then she would've already interfered."
"So we'll make it out here alive at least," Chloe interpreted.
"This is something that's fated to happen," said Adrien. The stranger seemed to be looking at them. He froze. Does he understand us after all?
Adrien thought for a moment. There were temporary heroes in Paris who would take care of the city in their absence but if Luka and Kagami realized that they weren't communicating with them at all, they were bound to figure out that something was wrong. He swallowed, looking up at the miniscule window on the wall beside them. They could only hope to receive help.
He fiddled with his ring. If worse comes to worst, we might actually need to transform.
"Those people." Alix discreetly eyed the unknown boy. "How do you think Marinette knows them?"
"Mari was adopted, remember?" Chloe tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
"But—but if she was in contact with people from her past, she would've told us, right?" Adrien's voice was weak. He always thought he knew his lady from front to back, never expecting buried secrets to come out from nowhere.
"Would she now?" Chloe mumbled.
The silence that hung in the air told them of the answer. Sure, Marinette had trusted them with her identity and her whole life even, but they knew she did keep things to herself if it could potentially hurt them.
"I remember when I first met her, she could get violent," Chloe recounted, looking down on her feet. "She was so guarded and so closed off."
Adrien himself recalled the time when they first revealed their identities. So this is what she was so afraid of, he thought, if we got too close to her . . .
Alix's brows knit together. "Does that mean those two guys are—"
"Her brothers," Chloe continued.
"Her brothers?!" Adrien gaped.
The blonde girl rolled her eyes. "Come on, isn't it obvious? They look alike. Pretty sure the other guy is Damian Wayne."
Adrien's eyes widened even more. No wonder he saw faces that looked familiar in that bus. "Like—like Bruce Wayne’s son Damian Wayne?"
Alix, too, had a look of utter disbelief. "You're saying Mari's biological brothers are Damian Wayne and . . ."
"Danny."
All three heads snapped up to the stranger. He took one look at them, grinned widely and continued in perfect French, "My name's Danny."
Adrien cleared his throat, feeling the color drain from his face. He switched to English, "Sorry, uhh, we didn't know . . ."
Danny waved his hand, "It's okay. Actually, my French is a little rusty." He chuckled. "Or so Marinette says."
Adrien stared at him, noticing for the first time how he resembled Marinette—Danny had the same blue eyes as him, the same glint hinting at trouble. But when his gaze strayed downwards, he saw the piece of cloth wrapped around his middle where Marinette had treated his wound.
"Are you okay?" It spilled out of his lips before he realized it.
Danny seemed confused for a second but then began to unwrap the makeshift bandage. "Oh this?" He lifted his shirt to reveal the cut. Dried bloodstains aside, the injury had healed completely, only appearing as a single reddish line on his skin.
"Good as new." Danny's tone of nonchalance worried Adrien a little.
Adrien swallowed. A gunshot wound shouldn't be able to heal as quickly. Now that he got a better look at Danny, he noticed how the boy's canines were a tad bit too sharp, and his ears were somewhat pointed. His blue eyes stood out against jet black hair but Adrien swore he saw it shimmer into a shade of green from time to time.
There was just something otherworldly about Danny.
"So you do know Marinette," Alix seemed to be scrutinizing him.
"Yes, I do. She is my sister." Danny nodded.
"Then do you also know what this place is and why we were taken?" Chloe questioned.
Danny drummed his fingers on his knee, as if contemplating. "You should probably hear it from Marinette, since it's her secret to tell. But I'll give you a rundown just so you're not in the dark."
"So we were born and raised in this . . . Organization, until we were about eight years old," Danny began, "It's called the League of Assassins, and it's the same one that captured us."
"League of Assassins," Chloe repeated, "Assassins. Like, killing people assassins?"
"Assassins in the literal sense." When Danny lifted his hand comb over his hair, Adrien caught a glimpse of the scars on his palm. "Our grandfather, Ra's al Ghul, was the head of the League. Now that he's gone, the members want an heir to take over the position. And as you should be able to tell, none of us want to do it so we were taken here by force."
Adrien felt his kwami shuffle around in his pocket.
Alix's eyes narrowed. "Ra's al Ghul. Why is that name so familiar?"
The corner of Danny's lips tugged upwards. "Oh you might know him because he once made a Wish."
It was coming back to Adrien now: one time he had asked Plagg if there ever was a time when a Wish was made, from combining the powers of the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculi. The tiny god told him about Ra's al Ghul, a madman who created pools of immortality and rage named the Lazarus Pits.
The same lightbulb seemed to have gone off in Alix's head. "That guy! Wait a minute . . . you know about the Wish?"
"I know about everything, yeah." Danny tapped the base of his ring finger while looking towards Adrien. "The three of us rarely keep secrets from each other."
Adrien's breath hitched. Not only did Marinette constantly talk to her biological family, but she saw them trustworthy enough to share the secrets of Paris, the Miraculi, and her guardianship.
And she kept it from them the whole time.
"But how come you ended up getting separated? How did you get out of this League of Assassins?" asked Alix.
"There was a coup against our grandfather and our mother decided to send us away to keep us safe. She said it was better we're separated in case any trouble follows us." Danny shrugged. "The rest was our choice. Damian went to our father, and Marinette and I were taken into foster homes."
No matter how bizarre that sounded, it made sense. It explained Marinette's behavior from the past as Chloe described. It explained how Adrien had a feeling that she was more lethal outside the suit, how one second she could go from smiles and 'clumsiness' to steel cold looks and defensive stances.
Adrien didn't know what to feel. Had she been deceiving them? He swallowed the lump in his throat, hearing her adamant voice declaring how she hated liars.
Danny seemed to be reading his mind.
"You're probably thinking she's not the person you thought she is, right?"

I am all for giving the Batkids children ok but seriously less sons more daughters.
Yes Bruce would love a grandson but you know what would be better a granddaughter.
Tim rolling up with his cloned child who is wearing a miniature Superboy jacket over her Nightwing themed dress.
I don't think you understand the love that would be pouring out of Bruce, Dick, Jason, Tim, Damian they have daughters/ nieces/ grand daughters holy fuck.
Mari Grayson in little dresses doing acrobatics like her Dad following after her Uncle Jay painting with Uncle Dami.
A little girl dressed as her daddy who is the Red Hood for Halloween. She had practically read the whole manor library by the time she's sixteen.
Damian with a daughter who is always covered up by a giant dog because she much like Baba loves dogs and he can never say no to her. Who looks somewhat like a mini Talia other than the whole flying thing.
I need their daughters who are badass vigilantes who are scarier than their fathers could ever be.
Grandpa Bruce who is overrun with granddaughters who steal his cars, have taken all of his money and just an entire family completely whipped for their little girls.
Are we seeing it tell me you see it!!!!!!

It's a halloween gala happening in the mannor. Jason is going as a zombie, Tim also as a zombie (Jason pesters him abt it when they see each other with the exact same costume). Jason changes into his Wonder Woman costume. Dick is going as a trapezist (he hung so. many. things. on the ceilling to give a show through the night), Babs is going as a Siren, Cass is a Mummy, Steph is wearing the stupidest and most off brand costume of Spoiler you could find and being a total fangirl of herself, Bruce is going as Zorro, Duke is going as Batman. Everyone is fawning over the Waynes but they notice a lack of Damian.
Where is Damian, omg. They start looking around. Jason stumbles on a girl dressed as Wednesday Addams and spills red punch on her - she nailed the unblinking glare, and he apologizes. Another girl, dressed as Enid, comes and starts yelling at him about disrespecting her gf and he apologizes like "I'm sorry miss", which makes Wednesday cosplayer blush very hard. Enid looks at her with an absolute smitten and endeared look.
"Aaaww Dami, we talked about this before! You can't blush every time someone uses girl pronouns for you, that's gonna give us away!"
Jason freezes. He looks over the Wednesday cosplayer and notices the very much Talia features. Oh my God, this is Damian.
He gathers everyone and they change costumes.
Bruce comes out as Morticia, Jason changes into Lurch, Tim goes as Pugsley, Dick as Fester, Cass puts on a gigantic octopus costume, Steph also goes as Enid, Duke dresses as Gomez and walks hand in hand with Bruce EVERYWHERE. They all dance to Goo Goo Muck AND Gaga's Bloody Mary. Damian's dance ends with Enid kissing her Wednesday. It's on the news the next day that there were 2 mistery girls who stole the scene in the Waynes' party and the whole family threatens the newspaper if they dont write that Wednesday was Damian. There was only ONE mistery girl, thank you very much.
It was Flatline, and Bruce almost has a heart attack when he hears it. Everybody glares at him so he doesn't actually voice his concerns but still.
Cass uses she/her to talk about Damian sometimes after that. Damian always blushes and everyone coos at him.

i went back to Binondo this morning for some errands and decided to check the jewelry stores for some window shopping.
well, i ended up buying an 18k necklace and a Mama Mary pendant.
as you all know di naman ako magastos na tao and i do not consume my daily allowance. so with some extra cash and my salary, I decided it was a go.
Gold is now selling at 3950 pesos per gram and the necklace was 10.5 grams while the pendant was around 3 grams. Parang I paid something around 54k.
okay na din to. gold is an investment and no money is lost. to think na tataas pa ang gold by the end of the year. had it been a pair of sneakers or gadgets baka nagka buyer's remorse ulet ako.
Tumblr media
around 12 i joined Trixie and some friends for lunch. again, okay din diversion to kasi hindi naman puede umikot ang mundo ko sa isang tao lang. i also have friends.
yun lang when we were driving home, Trixie was laughing...

Trixie: hindi nila tayo na charge sa mango bravo (shows receipt)
me? what?? bakit di ka nagsalita!!!!
Trixie: ngayon ko lang nakita kaya.
me: we are going back and we will pay for that cake! hello, wala ka bang takot ke Tita Carmi??
Trixie: eh sa di ko nga alam eh.
me: bruha ka, Trixie ang dami ko ng kasalanan na pinagbabayaran tapos dinagdagan mo pa! i am driving back!
so ang ending bumalik kami and paid for it. kamusta naman sa karma diba and besides sa staff kukunin yung loss na yun.
etong mga kaibigan ko eh, madalas gangster ang mga paguugali eh.
