Today is the United Nations International Holocaust Remembrance Day to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust primarily against the Jews. So I present this picture I got at the Dachau concentration camp. This is from one of the cell blocks where specific prisoners were held, tortured, and experimented on as compared to the bunk buildings where most of the tens of thousands of prisoners were housed. Perhaps this dank, empty corridor symbolizes the forgotten faces of the millions turned into numbers. Dachau started as a camp for forced labor but throughout the years it started housing racial prisoners, general criminals, other minorities like homosexuals, clergy who opposed the Nazis, and others. IMO the travesty is the de-humanizing of groups of people for just being who they were born as. To make it a crime and thus enslave, mutilate, and kill someone especially just because of their heritage to me is insane and speaks of evil. We need to realize that this shows where society can devolve to whenever we marginalize anyone. These days in the USA it seems that we are too prone to do so based on our political and other social ideas. I don't think we're generally nearly so far along as the Nazis got, but history shows it's too slippery a slope to not take heed. Especially when they start being legislated or enacted by government. Change the label of why someone should be marginalized and the same tragedy is still possible. Don't be fooled into thinking we can't, wouldn't, or that it will never happen again. May we never forget, but may we also be aware and discerning to see when similar things are happening around the world or even near us. Even if on a smaller scale down to 1. . Oct 18 . The original Kommandantur (headquarters) building, just outside the main site entrance. Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site, 2018. • For this series, I’m doing an experiment - B&W as the main photo to convey some of the heaviness felt at the site, then you can swipe right to see a color version of the same shot. This is to contrast some of harsh reality reminders everywhere you turn while visiting the site, with the stark surprise color pops found here and there. To me, it felt like a little bit of hope where you’d least expect it. I hope you all take a moment or three to ponder how people can and unfortunately often do treat each other while seeing this series. • #germany #dachau #dachauconcentrationcamp #memorial #blackandwhite #bnwphotography #bnw #kommandantur #headquarters #place #wandering #alwaysexploring #travel #bavaria #bavarian #diewocheaufinstagram #meindeutschland #unlimitedgermany #germanytourism #germanytour #fujifeed #myfujifilm #fujixclub #fujiframez (at Dachau Concentration Camp, Dachau, Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/BsswykEh-lB/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=15x8bdqvbra5j

Today, on November 8, 1939, The man who missed killing Hitler by 13 minutes. 📣🗣😈😱 Georg Elser, a German carpenter, almost changed the course of history. But his bomb missed killing Adolf Hitler by 13 minutes. It would take postwar Germany decades to acknowledge Elser's actions. Adolf Hitler reportedly said that he had the "luck of the devil" on his side throughout his years in power in Nazi Germany. Whether there were evil spirits at play during his reign of terror is a matter for speculation. Johann Georg Elser ( 4 January 1903 – 9 April 1945) was a German worker who planned and carried out an elaborate assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler and other high-ranking Nazi leaders on 8 November 1939 at the Bürgerbräukeller in Munich (known as the Bürgerbräukeller Bombing). Elser constructed and placed a bomb near the platform from which Hitler was to deliver a speech. It did not kill Hitler, who left earlier than expected, but it did kill 8 people and injured 62 others. Elser was held as a prisoner for more than five years until he was executed at the Dachau concentration camp less than a month before the surrender of Nazi Germany. . . #georgelser #widerstand #andiesemtag #antifa #onthisdayinhistory #niewieder #keinvergessen #gegenrassismus #gegenrechts #gedenkstätte #gedenkstättedachau #dachauconcentrationcamp #munichlovers #mymunich #exklusivmuenchen #simplymunich #munich_notes #Munichworld⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #geheimtippmünchen #münchenstagram #muenchenstagram #instamunich #munichgram #visitmunich #munichgreatshots #münchen🇩🇪 #munichlove #munich_germany #monacodibaviera #munichcity (at KZ-Gedenkstätte Dachau) https://www.instagram.com/p/CWBPf_nsa6y/?utm_medium=tumblr

#dachauconcentrationcamp #antifascismo Reposted from @ivanabentes https://www.instagram.com/p/CVbTqN8Fe5G/?utm_medium=tumblr

On this day, 29th April, 75 years ago, the Dachau Concentration Camp in Munich, Germany, was liberated by the US forces as the war on the European front drew to a close. For the survivors, it must have been the most unforgettable day in their lives. Here’s a throwback of some of the sobering sights I saw during my visit there back in Dec 2019. That sense of joy and relief at being rescued must have been tremendous. #MilitaryEnthusiast #MilitaryAviation #MilitaryHistory #Germany #Munich #Dachau #DachauConcentrationCamp #WW2 #Holocaust #SecondWorldWar #20Armoured #42Division #USArmy #Throwback #PlanesPatchesPeople (at Dachau concentration camp) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_kdifyBmPV/?igshid=f2e8l441ws67
