Listen. As someone that's been on YouTube and the Internet in general for a long time now and remember when captions on YouTube videos were widely used as a place to add in extra thoughts (think tagging on Tumblr), I think there's a HUGE difference between "oh oopsie, I left super old captions in!" And "I am profiting off of this media, it's becoming increasingly popular. I need to make sure every aspect of this is polished and accessible for as many viewers as possible so I can continue to profit." That's why it's viewed as unprofessional, and that's not even scratching the surface of the ableism of it, as my spouse mentioned in the previous reblog.
Subtitles are (and they always have been, even if a wide range of people abused them) a service to disabled people that need them. I myself have auditory processing issues and need those captions to understand what's being said. (Not every time, but it's happening a lot more frequently now) so seeing stuff like this brushed off by the general public is annoying because captions are an accessibility item. It would be like giving someone a pair of glasses with only one lens. It helps a bit and you can get the general jist, but it doesn't make life fully accessible for you, and you still have to work hard to process what you're seeing because you have to do extra work to process what's really going on.
it's not the end of the world to make mistakes. However, it is extremely disheartening and telling if the mistake could be easily corrected to make it more accessible for people and you just don't do it.
