I’ve been listening to “Juliet” by Cavetown and “Heather” by Conan Gray on repeat and I got this idea for an AU of sorts. Just Varian having an unrequited love moment about Violet. Hurts more if they’re good friends.

Varian supporting Violet’s huge crush on Tony, but wanting to beat him up because he wishes that was him instead. And he wants to tell Violet that Tony isn’t a good person, probably doesn’t even like her, but can’t risk upsetting her by saying things like that. So instead he monitors Tony to satisfy his own jealous thoughts, only to see Tony is actually a decent human being and treats Violet well.

But then Violet and Tony end up breaking up somewhere down the line, maybe after a nasty fight or something more tame, and Violet just cries to Varian because that’s her friend obviously. And Varian is happy about this but…at the same time, still wants to beat up Tony for doing that? Like no matter how this went, Varian wanted to rock Tony’s shit.

So he comforts her, and is there for her as usual. But it still hurts because even in all this, she’d still never consider him. There will be another partner that isn’t him, or she and Tony will get back together, and he’ll still be her good friend. Like he’s just there to help her heal while he’s actively falling apart because of her.

And because of that post about Varian hating his looks, he’d start thinking that’s the problem too. Tony is this pretty boy with loads of friends and admirers, while Varian is a science dork that locks himself in his lab and, according to him, doesn’t look half as good as anyone else. (A fucking lie, duh.)

I’m sobbing if you couldn’t already tell lol
