In my excitement to ply this cotton thread I forgot that it means im now chained to this ply bracelet for the next Long While because im too afraid to take it off and ruin it
In my defense the thread is very fine.
I had actually planned to keep spinning on this one and see how much it will hold but I uh. Spilled some mulled wine on it. So now I need to clean it off and also definitely oil it again. So I figured I might as well see my new WPI.
Also finished up spinning this pink cotton sliver. Dyed... I suppose technically by me ? I bought this red flax several years ago and was so disgusted by how much the color came off that I decided to put some white cotton sliver in (after several rinses and drains of a small sample of the linen) for 20 minutes or so, and this was the result. And then I didn't do anything with it for ages because I've only recently begun to understand cotton spinning.
But now it's done (except for blocking). Approximately 22 yards, and now I once again have my favorite long spindle back.
From that spin I learnt that cotton sliver is just terrible and I should always prep it another way, because ugh. Result is nice though.
#cotton spinning#cotton#cotton thread#hand dyed#im hoping i can use this white thread as sewing thread#how cool would that be ???#depends on the wpi tho so we'll see#spinning#handspun yarn

thinking about puppet tattoo parlors. A wall covered in so many different thread colors to choose from - swatches of different types of stitch for different textures / effects. modified handheld sewing machines for tattooing with multiple settings for the different stitches. individual needles + embroidery thread as stick n pokes...
#THINKING SO HARD ABOUT THIS#wouldnt this be cool though???#cause i was thinking fondly of tattoos and went 'hm. how would a puppet do this?'#cause ink can bleed in fabric. it can scrub out. the lines wouldnt be as clean and i just dont think it would really Stick?#but EMBROIDERY! STITCHES! COOL SEWING GUNS INSTEAD OF TATTOO MACHINES!!!#and now im wondering Could They Remove Their Tattoos?#it would probably be pretty invasive!#hold on im doing research real quick#yeah looks like they'd need to lift their felt/fleece/skin to get at the back of the stitches#then sew the skin back together afterwards...#so to them tattoos would be just as permanent as they are to Us! because who wants to go through That!#im having a grand ol time imagining the Range their tattoos would have#textures! endless colors! glitter thread! metallic thread! wool! cotton! polyester! glow in the dark! scratch n sniff!#that last one was a joke.#imagining someone with an entire detailed forest scene carpeting their back... it has Depth...#absolutely unprompted#puppets#sundown summer is getting a motherfuckin tattoo if its the last thing i do#resisting the urge to just litter every puppet that i know of with this idea#YOU get a tattoo and YOU get a tattoo and YOU-

I have real furniture!
A nice set of drawers, a little night stand, and a recliner. my aunt’s moving up north to what was supposed to be her “summer home” which sounds fancy but it’s a mobile home, simple. Cause her condo association upped the fees and my uncle liked being up north more than he thought he would. Which is why I now have a basically brand new recliner! It’s got a remote! I need to double check what it’s made out of, cause it feels like leather but I’m not 100%.
I realized my room wasn’t really messy, it just looked like it was cause you could see things on the shelves and the bottom shelves were a mess cause of cats.
Anyway, this made me clean (sorta, kinda) and I already planned to not go to the craft store until I made a dent in my stash, but now I’ve actually got space to go through everything.
So the plan is to do that tomorrow, and make a rough plan on what to do with all that yarn.
I’m thinking bags, especially with the obviously acrylic ones.
I bought a bunch of cotton yarn a while ago but the colors didn’t work for what I wanted to use them for, but I think I have a proper project for them now.
I’ve got some big things of baby yarn, and those are probably gonna be blankets, and maybe donated? I gotta find out where and how for that sorta stuff.
Caron used to have a home decor collection which I used to practice knitting (to tell you how long I’ve had these, junior year of hs 2016) they’re like tshirt material tubed over a core of polyester? I think, I tossed the labels ages ago. It was GREAT for practicing because you couldn’t accidentally split the stitches.
Pictures will be taken and friends/family will be questioned if they want anything.
#wurds#stash busting#knitting#crochet#I’m gonna try and do this. and hopefully ride the productivity wave to actually looking for certification classes#if not THAT I’ll have at least cleaned#I also need to sew up my blue skirt#there’s a seam hole and proper tear. I don’t have matching cotton thread. but I have quilting thread#which is pretty thin#plus the skirt is full and ruffly#so it shouldn’t be obvious

A Tug of War! Bobbins Get Set, Then Go!
Think of the top thread and the bottom thread on your sewing machine as having a tug of war. If the threads are identical and you are sewing on a single layer of fabric, both sides have equal strength and the result will be a draw.
However, in the real world, the teams are rarely equal. One team will be stronger or bigger or faster than the other. We use decorative threads on top. We often use different fibers for the top and bottom threads. We also add stabilizer or batting to our projects. Sometimes we might use a cotton bobbin thread and other times we use a polyester bobbin thread. All these factors make it necessary t adjust the tension for each project.
By adjusting the top tension either up or down, we are able to add or take away strength on the top thread team to equalize the tug of war battle. How much to loosen or tighten the tension depends on your machine. Experiment with new settings until you get the desired results.

If one more person tells me, "polyester thread is stronger than cotton" like I know nothing about sewing...
Cotton thread works perfectly fine for regular clothing. My sewing machine eats it slightly more than polyester and needs cleaning more often, but those tiny inconveniences are not worth switching to plastic.
#guess what sewing hasn't required repairs? my cotton thread ones#many many repairs of fast fashion items with their crappy polyester thread#(side note: cotton overconsumption is bad and fast fashion brands can't just make the switch and call it a day)
