I live in the United Arab Emirates, and wanted to share with you that the Middle East isn’t exempt from the current pandemic virus. Admittedly the statistics seem low compared to China, Iran and European countries (weather, population?) 

The first 2 pics are screenshots of today’s weather here in the UAE.  The rest are from today’s daily paper ‘The National’ (Sun 15 March 2020) to give you an idea of the virus reporting over here.

As you can see it’s fairly warm today (for us, although the weather is now getting hotter) and there is 18% humidity and as we head into spring the humidity will increase - especially in coastal Emirates along the Persian Gulf. I’m lucky and live inland in Al Ain which doesn’t suffer the same humidity, thankfully.

It’ll be interesting to see if the UAE and other similar climate countries do get less cases of corovid-19 cases and if it can be attributed to the weather.

However, as of today, there are reported cases of the virus in the GCC and schools, cinemas etc have been temporarily closed. There isn’t the panic buying. There were full shelves in our supermarket yesterday, but who knows if this still be the case if confirmed virus cases suddenly spike in numbers? All staff were wearing face masks and greeting customers with a squirt of sanitizer and wiping every shopping trolley down before allowing you to set off shopping.

In summary, at the moment over here everyone is aware and health conscious about the pandemic and we are given the same advice as everywhere else on how to self protect ourselves and others against the virus. So far there has been little reported about social distancing and self isolating (unless you’ve been found +ve) .... but this may change.

I hope this is useful information and I wish everyone 🙏🏼  health and peace 🙏🏼during this trying time the world is going through.

"Looming Overhead" the COVID-19

Here is a recent digital drawing of mine… reflecting on the worldwide current coronavirus (COROVID-19) elements: self, science, the world, and the looming overhead threat of death. Just a simple line drawing with a few washes of color…depicting the presence of Death represented by the skeleton.

It reminds me of the “Dance of Death” drawings by various artists in history commenting on the “Black Plague” AKA The Black Death, (The bubonic plague that swept through Europe in the 1300’s) that killed 1/3 of the total population. Those drawing always depicted the spectre of the skeleton inserting itself into everyday scenes with people, no matter their status in society…
