Thinking about how Cor, the boy who "was used to hard knocks," wound up with a brother who was famous for boxing, "and all their fights ended (if they didn't begin) with Cor getting knocked down." Just the idea that this abused child can go from being cuffed and kicked and bruised to realizing that some blows are affectionate. Some blows are playful. And, most importantly, he's allowed to hit back. Can you imagine the first time they get into it, and he realizes he can hit back? This slave boy finally has a right to defend himself, and he and his brother can fight and throw each other around because at the end of the day they are completely confident in their love for each other. If Cor gives Corin a bloody nose, they're still going to be friend by evening. It makes me emotional to think how for so long he had punishment, and now he gets affection and confidence in his position and a brother who he may fight with, but who will never EVER be genuinely trying to hurt him. I just think there's something important about that, about Cor feeling safe enough to fight with Corin even when he knows he's going to lose, because he knows it's not a punishment. It's not a beat down. It's a good clean honest argument, and both of them are going to walk away from it perfectly safe.

Shasta to Cor

Do you ever think about the Horse and His Boy and just get floored by the biblical parallels?? Cuz of course they're there, C.S. Lewis wrote them all to be allegorical on some level and even this book has it though it's not as obvious as the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. But when Shasta starts out he's a poor boy that has been condemned to a life of slavery and is given the "good news" that there is hope and freedom and safety in Narnia (salvation). So he goes with Bree, by faith, trusting that when he reaches the end, he will be free.

And when he gets there to the north, he has an encounter with Aslan - one of his many but this time he can see Him for who He really is - the King who has protected him and guided him and was waiting for this moment to speak with him.

And later Shasta discovers he's a prince (the son of the King, if you will) and that he has a new name, Cor, to go with his new clothes and new life. No longer is he a slave but now royalty. He has been given a new name to do away with the former things. His slave clothes are gone and replaced with royal garments.

And one day we will be given new names by Jesus!

I hope this makes sense but I just love this parallel with Shasta/Cor's story and salvation.

ahh I haven't read the horse and his boy in SO long so bear w me if it's not long or deep enough or if te has any inaccuracies, especially because the Cor/Aravis romance is actually quite mild since Lewis doesn't really write romance and kept them lowkey until the end when he said they got married when they were older to continue their bickering in an easier way lol.

Cor (Shasta)/Aravis are super cute because they're the definition of an old married couple from the very beginning, they are both brought up tough but still have their differences. You'd think that aravis, a girl who always wanted to be a warrior but was suppressed because calormen women tend to be forced into a teen marriage, and cor, who was also raised in a stiff, restrained and poor sort of background and didn't exactly have much freedom since he only knew his small town until bree came by, would actually immediately click or have a love at first sight kind of situation, but I like how Lewis still had them quarrel. Just because two people have similar struggles of freedom and similar goals, doesn't mean they'll automatically get along. my favourite scene is when after shasta comes back as cor, the prince, aravis is so awkward around him. because all that time, aravis was considered the "superior one" as she was from a noble class and seemed more experienced in leading the way, and shasta was the "poor inexperienced peasant" but aravis didn't know how to act around him anymore because she didn't want him to think that she was only being nice because he was a prince. I firmly believe aravis started seeing shasta in a different light when he launched himself at the lion (not knowing it was aslan) to protect aravis and her horse hwin. one nice thing to note about their relationship, is that it's interracial, I love that aravis, the queen of archenland, has calormene blood running through the archenland royal house, considering how bad of a reputation the calormenes have had. Now they play a part in one of the good lands of narnia, because of aravis.

Would the Narnia characters be on tumblr?

Peter

No. Peter Pevensie has never and will never know of tumblr because he is a magnificently well-adjusted human being. The only social media he is aware of is Facebook and Instagram.

Susan

She used to be on tumblr, specifically on the aesthetic-and-sad-prose side of tumblr. Susan was your og tumblr hipster. Definitely has a drawn-moustache-on-index-finger selfie buried deep down somewhere. She made a galaxy diy shoes once.

(She also used to have a keep calm and carry on banner in her bedroom but she will deny it until the day she dies.)

Susan has long since left tumblr and she is barely active on social media these days, only occasionally posting a picture on Instagram or getting roped into a TikTok trend by Corin. She still rocks a fishtail braid from time to time though.

Edmund

He wasn't, but he is now. He used to make fun of Lucy for being on the fandom side of tumblr, but the quarantine and the tumblr memes he found on Instagram explore persuaded him to make one in secret. He is now addicted. Unknowingly, Lucy is one of his mutuals and they ship the same unhinged crack pairing.

Lucy

Yes. Totally. 100%.

Lucy is your tumblr elder, she's been here since the start of tumblr civilization, she was here during tumblr Renaissance Era of SuperWhoLock domination, and she will be here when tumblr reaches its end. If tumblr had a million users, Lucy is one of them. If it only had one user, then Lucy is the only one there. If it had zero user, then it means Lucy Pevensie is dead, buried, and there is no internet access in the afterlife.

Lucy still religiously uses Supernatural gifs as reaction because Lucy Pevensie never forgets her roots (and because Supernatural has reaction gifs for everything).

He made a tumblr account once because he wanted to look at ship (actual ship, not fandom ship) arts and he must have an account to explore more. Caspian has long since forgotten of its existence.

No. Eustace is anti social media. He doesn't want the government to spy on him. He only has LinkedIn for 'professional purposes'.

Yes. But she only uses it a normal amount, which is only barely, two times a week at most. She is a twitter girly who migrated because of you-know-who.

Corin

No. He is a devout Gen Z TikTok user.

Cor/Shasta

No. Social media confuses him and he is barely able to manage his own Instagram account. Every time he hears about a new social media he dies a little more inside. (Just how many more of these things do you need?! -Cor, inwardly).

Aravis

Yes. She is a new user though. Lucy helped her to get one and they both follow each other. Aravis' tumblr is full of movie scenes and Kate Sharma edits.

Trumpkin

No. He thinks social media is ridiculous.

Trufflehunter

No, unfortunately. But Trufflehunter is a very famous baking influencer on every other platform.
