@heroicpaths | Felicity and Clark
She'd really tried to pick up and carry on in New York, but even living in the Avengers compound hadn't worked; there were just too many reminders of what she'd lost - too many people who'd known Matt, who'd been a part of her life with him. At least, being back in Star City there were none of those reminders; Matt Murdock had never been there - all there was to remind her of him were the ghosts of his fingerprints on her skin, and the little life she now knew was growing in her belly.
But even Star City, with its lack of reminders of Matt hadn't been the safe haven she'd hoped; with Oliver and Digg both gone too it all just added to the ghosts surrounding her. Instead, Felicity had moved on to Metropolis, seeking out Clark as soon as she'd gotten settled in the hotel that would be her home for as long as she could stand it. She found him at the Daily Planet, of course, looking as lost without Lois as she was without Matt.
Tumblr media
"Hi Clark," her smile was small, and sad, but the first genuine one she'd worn in weeks. "I heard about Lois ... I'm sorry."

Honestly, I do love Dick as Nightwing and Bruce and Dick's complicated relationship, but sometimes I like the old days when things were sweet and simple you know? When it was just them and Alfred and they all had fun with each other. Like when they blew off boring parties to go on patrol by using Dick's bedtime as an excuse. When Bruce let Dick go off on his own and said he was allowed "a little escapade" and ruffled his hair. When Alfred always brought coffee and "turkey sandwiches with Swiss cheese" to the Batcave while Dick and Bruce happily talked about their nightlife escapades. When Dick would make Bruce laugh regularly.
When they discussed Hamlet while riding in the Batmobile. When Alfred picked Dick up from school and dropped him off on dates and helped him go behind Bruce's back on cases. When Dick and Bruce would play fight with each other. When Dick made Batman's meetings with Gordon "more optimistic." When Bruce was being a helicopter parent and wanting to know why Dick would want to go to a public school. When Dick would sneak off with Clark when Bruce wanted him to stay back to finish his homework, and Clark did it for him before Bruce noticed. When Bruce teased Dick about his failed date, and they talked about it and their love lives. When Bruce apparently told stories about Joker to Dick during rides in the Batmobile. When Dick was actually the one who named the aforementioned Batmobile. When they would banter even in between a serious case. When Dick would cling onto Bruce to annoy him. When Dick was contemplating how alone he felt, and Bruce just showed up to catch him and do a routine on the trapeze with him. When Bruce would call Dick "kiddo." When Dick even called him stuff like "Bruce-ter." When Bruce used to call Dick "chum." I miss those days.

Yeah a lot of these are from Robin: Year One but that's just because it's the one I remember most. But there's a lot of them just having a good time and it doesn't feel like we see a lot of that anymore.

Oh my word, you guys.
Clark Kent's glasses. What is they aren't fake.
As in. He doesn't need a prescription. But what if the glasses are prescription? Have you ever tried looking through prescription glasses that aren't yours? How wonky it is? I'd find it pretty irritating to go around all day in some that were even slightly off.
But I'm thinking about it and . . . this guy is physical perfection, basically. But he's always pretending to be an ordinary, even somewhat klutzy, human. That must be hard to maintain all the time. Having to constantly make sure you aren't TOO perfect? Always trying to find a balance of acting slightly off-kilter, even klutzy, so people would never suspect?
Maybe giving himself bad vision is a simple way to naturally handicap himself. Make him just a little more cautious and unsteady. He's still have to be careful, of course - but Clark is always super (ha) aware of his own strength. Maybe the glasses help make it a little easier, take a little of the pressure off, because they naturally give him a minor, normal weakness he doesn't have to fake?
It's a little thing, wearing wrong-prescription glasses when he could just wear non-prescription frames (and hope nobody every looked through them and questioned why he was faking). But maybe that little bit of distortion of his vision, making himself feel just slightly off-balance but in a way that he can shed when he needs to save the day . . . maybe it helps him feel a little more human.

HOW did you get this done so fast?? Seriously, you just came up with the idea yesterday!
There are so many little hints that I'm going to be puzzling along with Duke about. Ugh and forcing them not to use names but numbers? It shows that they're tools for the Regime but also maybe Kal trying to create separation between the recruits and Bruce? Maybe he won't bond with them quite so strongly like he does other kids? Another control tactic.
Brilliant. I am so stoked about this.
I accidentally consumed about 600 mg of caffeine today three hours before work was done so when I clocked out I jumped into a google doc and started typing. Then I stopped when my hands kept shaking LOL.
I was trying to have Duke notice stuff and all those tiny hints but not get it right away! He’s smart but he’s also a fish out of water. He needs to get his bearings and process those weird gut feelings and instincts.
Thank you for reading!

In 2025, firmly into the Heroic Age, three of these superheroes become beacons to the newer generation now taking hold of their destinies.
Wonder Woman, once ascended to godhood as the Goddess of Truth as reward for her years of services to the Earth, left Mt. Olympus to return to the people. She reaches her hand out to those who need it, fostering belief in oneself and in others, showing the truth of human potential.
Batman has fostered friendships and maintains a vast network of allies all throughout Gotham City and beyond, a shining example of what human connection can do for not only one person, but many. His unwavering moral compass and sharp analytical mind make him a symbol for justice across the world.
Superman, a shining beacon of hope, the original superhero and the one to truly guide the Heroic Age. Like his contemporaries, he encourages and mentors new heroes stepping out into the sun where he is needed. The father of heroes, patriarch of the families El and Kent, his hope is one shared by all who join this extended family of superheroics.
The hope for a better tomorrow.

I’ve tried like 500 times to articulate my thoughts about nonwhite superman and how much that adds to his childhood of loneliness and every time I hit a stumbling block because the topic makes me too insane to think but please hold my hand and imagine this little boy trying to grow up in rural Kansas and being the only person he’s ever known who looks like he does. This little boy who never has a proper answer when people ask where he’s really from, and even once he knows the truth of himself he can never safely share it. Please imagine him fighting every single day to belong and never being able to no matter how hard he tries because people will always find something questionable in the very way he looks. A lot of the superman mythos is dependant on Clark’s ability to assimilate but when you take that away what is left?? He’s just a kid fighting so hard for a belonging he’ll never have a hope in hell of being handed. Oh it hurts my heart

I keep randomly think about this:
Imagine Batman revealing his identity to the league. He does it extremely nonchalant, the leaguers briefly wonder if he just forgot they were there for a moment.
Everyone takes the news relatively normal, and it's not that big of a deal. All just happy that Batman has officially trusted them 100%. No one really calls him Bruce though, especially not when he's in costume.
Thing is, they are constantly forgetting.
Not in the sense that Bruce Wayne is Batman. But that Batman is Bruce Wayne.
Every time Bruce unmasks in the safety of their shared space, they just get reminded of the fact.
The fact that Batman is so pretty.
The hero that strikes fear in the hearts of many criminals. The vigilante that has gone up against extreme foes. A man with no special powers aside from his mind. The world's greatest detective is a pretty playboy.
And sometimes, just sometimes, some of the heroes hit a buffering stage when Bruce does it in the middle of a conversation.
Maybe, just maybe, Bruce realizes it. Might just use it to his advantage while the effect is still there.

Exponential 📈
[read on ao3]
Rating: Explicit | 7.5k words, complete
DCU | Pairing: Clark Kent/Bruce Wayne
Summary: A minor mishap temporarily puts Clark out of commission, and Bruce figures that big problems require even bigger solutions. Fortunately, it seems that they have everything well in hand.
“I’m not in the mood for a lecture,” Clark mumbled without raising his head, voice rumbling like distant thunder.
“Neither am I.” Bruce let his hand drop and waited.
“You shouldn’t be around me,” Clark eventually said. He was speaking softly, but even then it sounded as if his voice was coming from a loudspeaker. “I’m dangerous.”

Part 2 of this
Clark goes to interview Timothy Drake, youngest CEO at 17, who has been staring at him without blinking or saying anything for a good minute. Clark, fidgeting and nervously sweating, "Um...is there something on my face...?"
Tim, narrowed eyes, "No, you just look really familiar for some reason."
Clark, even more nervous, feeling like those eyes can see into his soul and see all his secrets, "hahaha, weird"
(clark being superman literally hasn't even crossed tim's mind, he's just mentally going through all the galas he's ever been to, trying to figure out which one he's seen clark at before)

I know I'm not the first person to say this but if Steve harrington is any popular superhero, he's Batman, right?
Like yes there's the fun shit like haha nail bat, Batman. Both are rich boys who take in a crazy amount of children like it's their favorite hobby, both have a bitchy, playboy personas which they use to keep people from looking too deep, because they have to be that hollow, vapid, and bullshit. Big house, no parents?
I know that it isn't exact given Steve's parents are alive(presumably), but I know for a fact i'm not crazy here. Both guys live in luxury, but for some reason or another, their parents are gone. And the only thing they've left behind is their obscene amounts of riches. Like that makes up for having your parents in your life. It kinda left both of them with this anger that they have utilized, sometimes against other people, and always when they fight legitimate threats. And overall they try to be a good person even if they often tend to be haunted by their mistakes.
If you want to get a little meta with it, both work with a character who was originally planned as a love interest for them but is now canonically a lesbian because it makes their characters more compelling. Though Steve and Robin are on far better terms than Bruce and Kate are(doesn't take much for that. iykyk)
Also they have a partner in crime(read:fighting) named Robin if that counts for anything. Sometimes more than one for Bruce but eh. The guy's been around for 85, almost 86 years now, compared to Steve who's been around for like 7. Im taking liberties here.
Speaking of the role of Robin, trying to fit the party into the batfamily is a task and a half. Like I guess Dustin would have to be dick and max could work as Steph, but would that make Lucas Tim? Suzie could be Babs, that would make sense. Wait, am I making mike jason? It's a mess and my brain is on fire. The only ones i feel a little bit confident about is that Erica would be Damian, el would be cassie and Will would be Duke. Before you ask, no I don't know how Nancy, Jonathan, Alfred, or the other adults would fit in here but I have a side tangent to entertain y'all with instead.
Yes, I do think that this would make eddie Superman. Yes I think it fits quite well.
Listen, from what I do know of Eddie's backstory(I have not read flight of Icarus), it could be matched with Clark's. Boy is sent away from parents to live somewhere else and is taking in by someone who becomes their parent(s) wholeheartedly, no matter the fact he is different from the other kids. And then when they try to live their life as best they can with those differences. Something happens that gets a while city's population looking at them, and a notable member of the community wanting them killed or arrested because of how "dangerous he is".
Listen even if I'm being a little conspiracy board-esque about eddie as clark kent, the parallels of Jason Carver and Lex Luthor are plain as day. Jason is more of a religious bigot compared to Lex's capitalist xenophobia, but these two green and white bitch-asses mirror each other. Also the religious imagery for both Eddie and Superman is off the fucking charts(like Eddie is seen as a demon by the mobs and Superman is seen as a god. And both are feared for it)
I can talk more about this, but I'm already scared that I have said too much.

Howard the Duck is based out of Cleveland. Jerry Siegel (one of the two men behind Superman) was also from Cleveland. Now I'm not saying this means Superman and Howard the Duck don't deserve a crossover based on this, but... I think it'd be cool to have a Superman and Howard the Duck team-up. And hell, both Superman and Howard the Duck tackle social commentary and philosophy! They could definitely have a fun story together. It'd be weird, but i bet it'd be interesting and fun to read.
