i think my favorite thing about pending train is that like… it breaks alot of the typical stranded group tropes. someone is picking a fight with the group. actually he is trying to push people into working to survive instead of just waiting around pitifully for rescue. someone is hoarding water. instead of forcing a search or fighting over who it is they work together make an inventory and let people volunteer any goods to share around. someone is depressed. they share their stories to motivate them to start eating.

theres just… a lot of compassion. sure there is conflict and people who have their own agenda and people who dont feel any consideration for others. but also there are those who share their food wo anything in return or worry about others wo needing something from it.

also breaking the trope of the self sacrificial character hrghsjsj. ‘please come back with us, leaving you behind would become our regret’ hrhgsjskbs

also the stereotypical nerd and gamer characters, them becoming friends cause they apparently played the same games/ had the same taste in manga was so hrjdbdjsj

theres this scene when they find out theyre in the future (? or some other reveal) where rena, who basically been portrayed thus far as a pretty apathetic character who looks through other people’s things and will lie and pass off the blame on others, says that she’s glad that everyone is dead in the future. but shes starts crying while shes saying it and theres this look on yome’s face where he goes from ‘how could you say such a thing?’ to ‘oh youre hurting too’ and idk this was such a nice characterizing moment for rena, seemingly shallow nail manicurist

also kayashima big brothering all the teenagers (kato, yome, rena, koharu, kazuma) like hrhsbbsjsb that was adorable. and the others being all like ‘wow hes such a good older brother’

one criticism tho would be the romance poking with hatano sometimes to pick one of the guys which was annoying and also the weird kayashima pauses where the trope would be for him to confess or kiss or something but then doing something else is annoying… like make kayashima’s love language be acts of service and hair touches (NOT while cutting hair). he already touched yome and kazuma’s head affectionally so theres precedent. also he has trust/abandonment issues so they couldve put that out a little more

and they shouldve made shirahama gay lol. already making it in my head where the waitress is sister to the disabled senpai and hes just conflicted bi between them.

yeah thats it. besides more ot3 and more hatano character development obvs
