1992 pinhead returns in Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth in probably one of the last alright hellraiser films in the series. There are some great kills in this movie but it doesnt feel like a true hellraiser film. It fits in more with a slasher movie. In the previous two movies the cenobites despite being denizens of hell are more of a neutral force both helping and hindering the main character whilst remaining sinister. In this movie Pinhead is a straight up villain, while being a near pun machine. There are a new line up of cenobites introduced but neither have the impact of the originals. There are some cool scenes like pinhead wiping out a nightclub. Doug Bradley yet again shines and steals the movie as the hellpriest. But sadly he is the best part of the movie. The problem which I found was that it was taken on by dimensions films which didnt understand the franchise or the characters instead turning it into a familiar slasher instead of the dark fantasy.
