Online African Film Festival (OAFF) by Jean Fall - founder of Cinewax & OAFF — Kickstarter

Link to the kickstarter for a streaming platform dedicated to movies made by Africans and the African diaspora across the world! The platform was already active a few months per year during their online film festival, but they would like to open it all year round, add more movies, subtitles etc.

This is an awesome initiative : the mainstream vision of africans and black people is dominated by movies and stories told by white people, who don't represent who we truly are. Movies made by us and for us get much less exposure, and when you live in a western country it's really hard to have access to movies made by Africans or by the African diaspora. This platform could partially fix that problem.

I just found this rad kickstarter that is dedicated to online streaming African films. In this day and age cinema is easier to access than ever before thanks to the internet, and being able to reach global audiences can make a world of difference (pun intended) for creators. This spring and summer I’ve been trying to find places that stream Nigerian films specifically and it’s been a challenge, and to have a platform dedicated to streaming new festival films 12 months a year would be so amazing.

Now is the time to support the new generation of AFRICAN filmmakers, and give them a platform to express themselves. Whether you're in Ghana, Senegal,South Africa, Jamaïca, Brazil, France,Canada, USA, etc... we all have a link to Africa and its diaspora.

OAFF gives you access to AFRICAN culture and stories told by AFRICANS.

- After 5 years of hosting film festivals, we want to give more people access to AFRICAN films ALL YEAR LONG.

- Our current streaming platform was too costly to operate and not very user friendly. We want to improve the user experience and manage our operational costs.

- We would also like to acquire new films & series with better payment models for filmmakers

- We estimate that we can have at least +100 movies yearly. With more films and  viewers we can find sponsors and advertisers  to introduce a new free-to-watch model for those who can't afford to get a subscription. These free films will be supported by sponsors aligned with our audience and purpose.
