One of these meager entries, for instance, is something I noticed when I was taken to a local theater troupe’s matinee performance of Murder on the Nile, by Agatha Christie. I remember the performance pretty well because I was going through a fascination with ancient Egypt, and was disappointed that the play had no Egyptian characters in it—just an assortment of traveling Brits, each with a shadowy secret and/or sinister motive. The only locals are some extremely minor figures—the Steward of the cruising boat on which the play takes place, and some Beadsellers, children who pester the Brits when they arrive. The first act ended with a cliffhanging burst of gunfire, and as an intermission diversion, the audience was given scraps of paper in which we were to guess the identity of victim and murderer both. After the play was over, the results of the poll were taped up in the lobby, and here is what struck me most, what I wrote down in a notebook: someone had guessed that the Steward would be murdered by the Beadsellers. That’s what I wrote down when I got home, in a too-fancy notebook, one of those leathery tomes tied shut with a thick cord like a mortifying book of nerdy spells: The Steward was murdered by the Beadsellers. It was such a bright flight of fancy, a cheap joke but also an inventive counternarrative to the stock plot I’d just observed. I loved thinking about it and I still do: in the dead of night, three or four Beadsellers sneaking into the Steward’s quarters for a deadly deed, a plot completely overlooked by the repressed and scheming passengers trading barbed bon mots over gin in the salon. But of course I never wrote this story down, or even attached anything else to this stray idea someone had scrawled during intermission. It was just a shred I kept—one I keep on keeping—something that seemed less like being a writer and more like having a bad habit.

Redesigned my oc Christie Annabeth Marlow aka Nosey!
Now she has an actual name lmao :’)
My dream VA would still be Stephanie Beatriz (she would use Beatriz’s normal voice and then do the more Rosa voice when she’s undercover).

Fuck those people on twt who blame Caitlin, a ROOKIE, everytime her team loses. Some of these people forget that basketball is a TEAM game, those losses aren't on her. Blame the refs and christie.

okay okay srs thoughts on the game
this was winnable if christie hadnt drew up a play near the end for fucking kelsey when she was ass the whole game. caitlin put up nearly 30 and erased a huge deficit and you do that for what
caitlin 4th quarter was chefs kiss
katie lou cannot start at the 3 or the 4 and is just better at the 3 coming off the bench
refs youre going to hell
dont get why lexie was starting if youre not gonna give her adequate mins. she should always be on the court with caitlin because their synergy is second to none
aliyah getting so few attempts was ridiculous but i choose to give her performance td grace cause she was in foul trouble
we are ass at defense
why was smith benched lmaooo
very proud of cait's resillience throughout the game its so easy to give up when youre being blown out by a bottom feeder team but she kept it pushing

The devastation to our toh (water) and yintah (land) is immeasurable. This is toh we drink. This is where the salmon start their lives. This is our sacred headwaters that feed EVERYONE downstream all the way to the west coast.
We knew this would happen. CGL tries to blame the climate crisis and being surprised/unprepared but the fact is they knew what they were getting into and simply don’t care.
CGL has a stop work order (ref: 20230027_OR001) from the EAO in the Gosnell Creek section EXCEPT for the work to cross Gosnell Creek!
This has to stop. These are the people within colonial government that can do something about it and are choosing not to. They clearly won’t listen to us so maybe they will listen to you. Be loud. Be persistent. We all live downstream.

a demon in disguise — baby, whatchu think you know? /lyr
my son CORPUS CHRISTI. it/he is a regretevator oc. also yes the asteria song lyrics apply to his lore. it's complicated (not really)
more shit of him under the cut (if it even works this time) i just think hes neat !
Tumblr media
textless version
Tumblr media Tumblr media
concept art of him, these are slightly outdated; mostly the horn shape + belt in the first image and how the gloves work if that makes sense. also i drew his ? bodysuit thing wrong in the actual finished art it looks correct in the concept, i didnt look at my ref
aaaand work in progress dialogue for him. some of this is lore related others are just for fun and the general silly of the elevator game. that first little dialogue in quotes at the top is its entering the elevator dialogue. brief rundown of its general backstory that will be helpful:
it was created by a man named dr. D'angelo de Los Ángeles (haha clever aren't i) because dr Ángeles is gay and lonely and insane. he accidentally created a crazy fucking wild ass half robot half biological nightmare homunculus and now he's just kinda running wild everywhere. CORPUS CHRISTI speaks spanish like his creator but only in weird broken scripture. yeah this is approved by god!
last thing to note: this fucker speaks in vigeneres and base64 sometimes. Watch Out!

I’m going to be very annoyed if the league encourages the refs to start calling fouls super tight all around (to seem “fair”) due to the griping of Christie, Clark and Co. I’ve never seen this much complaining about the physicality towards a rookie before when I doubt she’s even had it the worst. Pretty sure brink got clotheslined right in front of the ref and he did nothing. Cope, dammit.
I don’t like watching nba regular season because it turns into a boring 3pt shooting contest where the slightest bit of contact on a guard in the paint gets called (although I think the refs stopped calling it as much after all star??). I love that actual defense gets played in the WNBA, despite the frustrating officiating at times…
The problem is that referees are not consistent with how they officiated this league.
Certain players do well when officiating is consistently tight. Certain players do well when it's consistently loose. And certain players can succeed in either tight or loose basketball as long as it's called consistently for 40 minutes.
Officials hate these players and want to disrupt their flow. This is one of many reasons officials are deliberately inconsistent. They go into a game thinking "how can I make this player I dislike have a bad game."
All I want is for the referees to be fair and consistent. I think a bit of physicality gives the game a chance to be fair because referees are less involved

do i agree that caitlin shouldn't be losing her mind at the refs and getting techs? yes. but she's gotta be telling her that in private or y'know what? get that technical. defend your players and let them know you're on their side

8, 11, 22, 26, and 30 for Florence; 12, 14, 16, 23, and 28 for Henry :)
Oh boy its going to be a long one, lets just start with the girlie!
8) What hobbies does your OC have? What do they do to unwind?
Florence is a type of person who gets curious and interested easily so she embodies this trait into cooking. Her personal favorite is to make cookies and pasta, which she likes experimenting with new recipes. In some occasions if she's a bit worn out she likes to make a cup of goat milk and read a couple novels to unwind herself
11) What was your inspiration for your OC?
It all started when i got back to the twdak fandom and was also in a brainrot after reading agatha christie's novel "and then there were none". (Spoilers if you havent read it) I was a big fan of Old Justice Wargrave (or Laurence Wargrave) because he was such a well written villain with a strong sense of justice yet an "innocent" and calm sadistic demeanor. At that time i already had Florence in my drafts but i haven't got any good refs, so i decided to make my favorite old man as the refs for my girlie :>
22) Fight or Flight? Are they a lover or a fighter?
In a fight or flight situation, i do think she likes to take the risk. In making decisions or to put it simple, when she joined Krueger corp. she already knew theres no turning back because her father had already "given up" on her. So she will strive to prove that she's strong enough without him. So, a fighter.
26) What flower do you associate your OC with?
As much as i wanted to answer with wacky pretty flowers, i think daisies symbolizes her quite well, since it represents "innocence", loyalty, and ability to keep secrets
Tumblr media
30) My OC and your OC are friends. This isn't a question. I'm not asking. (How do they respond?)
Theyre besties, your honor. Florence would really be grateful for Fiish's company because Albert could be quite a tiring boss, especially if he asks her to clean up the recent mess his patients did. Its just girlies supporting girlies yknow (and yeah they'll probably bully him also its part of the silly agenda lmao)
Now its time for Henry's turn!
12) Does your OC interact with other people's OC? If so, who's their best OC friend?
Yes. If you have seen the small comic i made with my friend (@im-bored-so-i-draw )'s oc, Jameson Heelshire, he's one of his homies. I dont know if they let me spoil another one but theres also another guy named Gabe, and he's also part of the group.
14) Who's a character your OC cannot stand! It's on sight when they see them!
With the events of him being rejected when he signed up for Myers corp, he absolutely despises Monsieur M. (Or just Myers in general) So everytime the tv at his press office has news about Myers he would reach put for the remote and change the channel to something else. He met Albert too at some point in while working, but he's still tolerable.
16) How's their relationship with their parents? Are they alive?
Henry's parents is indeed still alive. But the relationship is complicated. His mother was actually forced to marry his father because she was already pregnant before they were married. And Henry's mother was a scientist at Voorhees corp. And she was actually half-hearted when she had Henry. So they got divorced, and since his father regretted all of these occurences, Henry was taken in care by his uncle, Harlan. As for his relationship with them now, he still calls his dad and also his mom. Henry could only hope one day that his mother actually aswered the call when he did.
23) Is your OC reliable? Can I call them up at two in the morning if I have a flat tire?
Only if it also benefits him. Like if you call him with the said prompt he'll just reply "and what will you give me?" And if you answered something that pleases him (like you'll help him with his "work") he'll grab his sneakers and a brand new tire to run to you with aid.
28) What clique would they be in? (Draw them in the clothes of said group!)
I have really small understanding of english terms (it isnt my first language) so what i could gather is cliques are like those groups in highschools who has specific interests (?) So i would say he would be like a movie geek ig
(I dont know what they wear so apoliogies for not drawing :'>)

PLEASE. Also i specialise in manga so i had to check my shelves andkenfkdn
My best recs for detective ficrion are the authors Elizabeth George, Lars Kepler (my beloved!) and naturally anyone from the golden age (Agatha Christie, and so on) and Philip Pullman's "Sally Lockhart" series is brill.
Good one i read recently was "The Cleaner" by Paul Cleave. Haven't finished it but it's good so far.
Not detective fiction, but recently i've been reading books by Ira Levin. If you like conspiracy stories, he's a specialist. "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Stepford Wives" are incredible, and if you're into dystopias à la "The Giver" (Lois Lowry) then "This Perfect Day" will delight you.
Most heart-wretching and most human story i have ever read is a novella called "Roadside Picnic" by the legendary Strugatski brothers. It's been 7 years and i have yet to read anything that destroyed me as much as that did. It's even worse when you read up on how difficult it was to publish.
Omgggg Thank you so so much! You have no idea how needed this was. Im ashamed to say I havent read almost any books in the last few years (that are not academia related) so sadly almost any name thats not from the golden era are new to me, as I mostly used my free time to play videogames and read manga. All of the ones you mentioned speak to me so Ill try to be checking them as soon as I have the time and mindset. I did have the delight of reading Rosemary’s Baby tho! You are right, it was great! Ive heard a LOT about “Roadside Picnic” and it has been on my “to read” list for a long ass time, so I think that Ill actually start with it as soon as Im done with the one mentioned on the previous ask. Btw youre always welcome to recommend more, in fact Ill tag it as “ref” so I can easily have a better organized list of stuff Ill want to read! Also you mentioned you also specialize in manga 👀 may I also hear about that??

Game 10 Concentrated Thurs, June 6 7pm EDT Chicago @ Washington
Starting: WASH: Atkins, Dolson, Edwards, Samuelson, Vanloo (Sykes out with ankle injury, Austin injury rest?) CHI: DeShields, Evans, Mabrey, Reese, Williams
1st Quarter Always GREAT to see former Mystic Elizabeth Williams among a just plain excellent cast of characters for the Sky. Edwards makes good cuts, she's never stagnant. Three straight possessions we find her under the hoop for the easiest $2—forcing the Sky to huddle up and figure out a response. For the first time in quite a few games, the early energy among DC players is HYPE. Stef just twirled Shakira. The best part about home games is obviously the TOP two voices in sports: the legendary, always flawlessly attired Meghan McPeak and Christy Winters-Scott. <3 <3 JVL playing with a wrapped thumb tonight, doesn't appear to be slowing her down. Edwards' jumper gives her 8 after 3 mins, 100% of our scoring power. Karlie joins the fun with a corner 3 undeterred by a leaping Diamond DeShields. Sky with only 3 pts. A miss, a moving screen, and a lost ball from us and the Sky have made up the difference. Shatori, Yish, and Jade in. We're getting some steals and stops but a bit light on offense. Cardoso is fast at 6'7". Refs starting to get frisky with the whistles. Jade misses a free throw, gets her own and puts it right up to end the 1st 21-15.
2nd Quarter I've been thinking it all year and it's time to say it: Dana Evans is not playing around this season. Respectfully, she wasn't messing around last year either but it's a vector not a point, you know? Our bench struggling against good Sky defense to start the 2nd and they tie it up. It's not pretty right now, whistles, misses, no flow both ends. Shatori hypes the crowd up with a move and a jumper. Engstler with some first-half minutes today and gets a block. We find Aaliyah under the hoop next play and it's starting to look more like the first quarter. Eeeeeeverybody touches the ball and Earl downs the trey. Cardoso to Reese just playing above the heads of everyone—can't let that take off. Shatori jukes, pulls up, scores. Cardoso to Reese repeat and Eric calls time to solve it. Starting line returns. JVL is left alone -> layup. Chennedy with some tuff buckets here in the second. JVL finds Edwards, who drops it in and then gets a block on Reese the other way. Still Sky ball and she gets ANOTHER block on Cardoso this time. Ooh Chennedy heating up, getting what she wants. It's 41-35. Aaliyah is 7 of 7. Stef hits a three, closing the half 44-35.
3rd Quarter Patience continues to pay off on O as we eventually get someone lonely under the hoop. Elizabeth Williams out with knee injury (didn't see it) get better quick E! I was wondering about the extended minutes for Cardoso as she's coming back from injury herself. I'd love to see DiDi get in here. Go-go is rocking the house but the Sky get the D and a Mabrey 3. Some consecutive empty possessions and the lead shrinks to 3. We have let go too soon of what was working—slipping a player to the hoop. Aaliyah with a big block hopefully driving a momentum shift. Sky within 1. The hoop is not accepting shots on the DC end. Foul shots give Chicago the lead. A Capital P Painful 16-0 run. Myisha breaks the curse. Jade leaps and goes sliding off into the crowd "safe at third" according to Meghan lol. Edwards making a tough shot here and we're even at 54. Criminally underrated Izzy Harrison with 6 quick points. Turnover and Angel Reese and-1 and we need a timeout with just 50 seconds left in the quarter, dragging by 6 prior to the foul shot. Reese misses the extra but we turn it over right away. 54-60. Only 10 points in the quarter for DC.
4th Quarter Shatori doing all the scoring for us by drawing fouls. We are struggling to get stops the other way. 58-64. A couple Sky misses match ours and things aren't pretty right now. Ariel shows her toughness for 2 and then we get a defensive rebound, but turn it over on a push off. Earl gets the steal and will go to the line after her shot attempt. 61-64 with 5 minutes remaining. Chennedy gets another tough bucket and she has 19 for Chicago. Things are not pretty at all. Back-to-back turns and the Sky's 2-pt lead becomes 6. 2:22 to play. Ugly gets uglier—Earl misses both free throws, Chennedy gets a shot and then we turn it over. We can't seem to find the net. 71-79. We have lost all 10 games! Nothing to say about that at this point. Aaliyah Edwards with a double-double.
