alright I just started watching netflix 3 body problem, it's so western and white humour (bc it is western produced duhhh)
I'm only half way through ep1, it has this weird uncanny "woke women agenda" going on. We gotta admit Liu Cixin is probably not the best at writing women characters, or many for that matter of fact. I get that netflix is trying to diversify this whole story, there's a bunch of snarky "clever" kind of dialogues, if they thought Li Cixin had too little women in the story, they should just change the gender of them (which they did) and move on. But then they have this weirdo in a bar asking what the women do for a living... then men commenting on how good a woman looked at a funeral and gossiping about her boyfriend as well 😅 there's also dialogue directed at a woman saying "are you two fighting right now...or fucking? Oh! Fighting and fucking..." mate, I am uncomfortable, HELP!
AND YE WENJIE HAS SEX(implied) WITH BAI MULIN - literally what was the need for this!!!??????? THIS TOTALLY CHANGES HER ENTIRE CHARACTER PHILOSOPHY
#perhaps I'm nitpicking netflix bc I have a soft spot for the tencent one but i feel like netflix is missing the point#3 body problem#three body#im chinese and seeing western adaptation of a chinese piece of work will always be jarring for me#esp when this piece of work has roots in chinese history

Warring States Period Alien Dui
This massive art piece, with a total weight of over 4.5 kg, is assembled of two tightly fitted hemispheres. Each of the hemispheres of this dui (敦) is equipped with a pair of ears and three legs, and can be used as a standalone utensil.
The top of the cover and the bottom of the vessel are decorated with fire patterns. The rest of its body is covered in cloud mosaics, made of red copper wire and fine silver.
Despite the alien appearance, it’s just a banal pot.) Attachment to this grotesque shape dates back to the Zhou Dynasty.
Hubei Provincial Museum (湖北省博物馆).

Pair of Owl-Shaped Jars
China, Henan province, Western Han dynasty, 206 BCE-9 CE
Amber brown-glazed low-fired pottery
19 x 13.8 x 11.8 cm (7 1/2 x 5 7/16 x 4 5/8 in.)
Cleveland Museum of Art
2020.178.1-2
“Pottery vessels in the shape of owls were made since Neolithic times and throughout the Bronze Age. These jars in the form of vigilant owls may have provided a tomb occupant with grain in the afterlife. However, the meaning of these mysterious birds and the association of the owl motif with burial sites in China is not fully understood.”

zheng yi sao is a badass but i just can't help it that her GRATING american accent gives me the unmistakeable feeling of seeing 'smartphone face' in a period drama. those vocal inflections are just so painfully LA
#maybe not LA because i'm not a pro at identifying american accents when they're this generic but she sounds like an influencer#they should have given her a proper chinese accent. i know this show aims for the opposite of realism whenever possible but it wouldn't hav#been so jarring. just my two doubloons#ofmd#ofmd s2#zheng yi sao#jamie.txt

Alchemy, be it ‘Traditional Fantasy’, Hermetic Ritualism, or Organic and Spiritually-based, is fun in all of its forms.
#[ooc]#thinking about something I heard one time where chinese wizards would create poisons by trapping venomous animals in jars#and the one that survived the inevitable brawl would be considered toxically cursed and used in their poisons

#just watched a jack edwards video where he read yellowface and let me just give my 2 cents that no one asked for#so i'm asian. surprise. if y'all didn't know already#and i really feel like rf kuang's books are just not that good. in fact i would say they are very catered to white people#who are learning about colonialism or even asian people for the first time#it's like barbie being feminism 101 lol#most of the people i've seen say that babel or yellowface are the most groundbreaking books on earth are guess what. white people!#i've read babel. it was good and she obviously knows what she's talking about because there was so much information in it#but it was not the best book I've ever read. characters were bland. I've read the poppy war. good but not that great towards the end#my friend (singaporean but born in china) read yellowface and she absolutely fucking hates it#she gave me her copy to read but idk if i want to because none of rf kuang's books have stood out to me so far#that's not to say you can't love her books. and if you learn from them then that's great!#but don't treat her as objectively the best writer of our time when it is your own lack of knowledge that leads you to think that#also while we're on the topic#i fucking hate the bell jar#it's so WHITE#and the racism towards chinese people that 90% of y'all don't seem to get from reading the book is quite insane

honestly i didnt play genshin for long but when i did i had to have it set to chinese or japanese voices because they either sound better or. if not then at least the language barrier helps mask the uncanny 😭especially with the 'child' characters,
tbh it’d probably help my issues (esp with how off-kilter i’m thrown due to pronunciations) but i treat the story like a podcast atp so i can’t 😭 i just set that shit to auto and let it play while i fuck off with something else so instead of only missing like 20% i’d be missing 100%
#muse talk#anon#gacha impact#and i Am interested in the story!#to an extent!#so alas.#and as i said i don’t blame the english vas at all chinese tones are very difficult#but it’s. so jarring when things are pronounced differently from sentence to sentence 😭
