September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and I am on a mission to raise as much awareness and money as I can. People often ask me why I care so much about childhood cancer. I'll tell you why. Could you imagine having to watch your sister, brother, daughter, son, niece, nephew, someone close to you be pumped with poison as the life drains out of them? Not even knowing if it would save their life. Day by day watching them get more sick. Watching each strand of hair fall out, their body lose all their color and the child who use to run, play and laugh lay there completely lifeless? The poison being pumped through their body that is supposed to save them actually causing them heart failure, kidney failure, secondary cancers and sometimes death. Watching them be too weak to sit up, eat or even move. Could you imagine sitting by your child, niece, nephew, or siblings side after being through all that and still not even know if they were going to make it? Praying, hoping, wishing they just live to see another day. Could you imagine them looking at you with those beautiful big eyes that use to sparkle and are now dull as they beg you to help them but you can't do anything? You tell them it will be okay when you aren't even sure of that yourself. You hold their hand and kiss their head not knowing if it will be the last time you ever get to do that. After all that you have been told that they have achieved remission. That doesn't free them from cancer though because of lack of funding the harsh treatments they had to go through causes them to have to endure years of side effects. Everyday you live in fear not knowing if the cancer will come back. Your worst nightmare comes true and your child has now relapsed. The doctor tells you there are no more options. There isn't enough funding for childhood cancer and there aren't enough treatments due to lack of funding for research. Now without any other options you have to watch your child die and suffer. You sit there as they say I love you and take their last breath. I don't know about you but I can't imagine ever having to go through that. That is the heartbreaking reality of childhood cancer. That is why I will never stop fighting for these kids. This reality needs to change. You might say well this has nothing to do with me. Let me tell you cancer can happen to anyone. These families were just living their everyday lives when their child, sibling, ect. got diagnosed. Why wait until it happens to you? KIDS ARE DYING. Every single day. 7 kids die every single day. 42 kids are diagnosed everyday. Will YOU help join the fight to end childhood cancer? These kids need us to be their voice! Will you go GOLD and help spread awareness? Childhood cancer is the #1 disease killer of kids and they get less than 3.8% of funding from the government. There isn't enough funding and kids are having to use hand me down adult treatments causing them many side effects. Together we can change this. I beg of you to please help. Please don't just read this and turn the other way. You can't tell me that you'd be able to look into the eyes of a child fighting and not want to help them. Let's end childhood cancer.
