How Can LGBT Parents Start Their Surrogacy Journey
Starting a family through surrogacy can be a fulfilling yet complex journey for LGBT parents. In this guide, we’ll break down the essential steps, highlight how to find the right support and discuss the role of agencies in Calgary, Vancouver, and Montreal that cater to the unique needs of LGBT couples. Surrogacy can provide a safe and structured path to parenthood, with legal and emotional support along the way.
Tumblr media
Understanding Surrogacy for LGBT Parents
Surrogacy allows same-sex couples and LGBT individuals to build families through a structured process involving a surrogate mother. There are two main types of surrogacy: gestational and traditional. Gestational surrogacy is typically preferred, as the surrogate has no genetic link to the child, making legal arrangements easier. For LGBT parents, particularly gay male couples, gestational surrogacy offers a safe way to have a biologically related child through the help of an egg donor.
Why Surrogacy Is Popular Among LGBT Parents
With advancements in fertility and surrogacy support, many LGBT couples are choosing surrogacy over other options, such as adoption. Surrogacy for LGBT parents allows one partner to be genetically related to the child, which can be important for family identity and heritage. Additionally, surrogacy offers LGBT parents a greater level of control over the process, including selecting a surrogate and having involvement from pregnancy through birth.
How Do LGBT Parents Start Their Surrogacy Journey?
Starting this journey requires careful planning and a solid support system. Here are some essential steps to help guide LGBT parents:
Research
Look into local and international surrogacy laws, as regulations vary by country and province. Canada, for example, has specific rules, including restrictions on compensating surrogates beyond expenses.
Financial Planning
Surrogacy can be costly due to medical, legal, and agency fees. Budgeting from the beginning is crucial, as this will include costs for finding a surrogate, medical expenses, and legal documentation.
Choosing the Right Agency
Selecting an experienced agency can make the journey smoother. Agencies provide services from surrogate matching to medical and legal assistance. In Canada, agencies in Calgary, Vancouver, and Montreal specialize in LGBT surrogacy services.
Legal Counsel
Surrogacy requires a clear legal framework. An attorney specializing in family law or surrogacy can help draft necessary contracts, especially regarding the surrogate’s rights and the intended parents’ parental rights.
Emotional Support
This journey can be emotionally challenging, so finding support from family, friends, or support groups specifically for LGBT parents can make a difference.
Choosing a Surrogacy Agency in Calgary, Vancouver, or Montreal
Finding a supportive agency is key to a positive surrogacy experience. Canada is home to various agencies that support LGBT families, providing essential services for each stage of the journey.
Surrogacy Agency in Calgary: Calgary-based agencies are known for their comprehensive services, including surrogate matching and coordination with clinics. These agencies often work closely with local healthcare providers to ensure seamless medical care.
Surrogacy Agency in Vancouver: Vancouver agencies are popular for their commitment to ethical practices and support for LGBT families. They offer resources for legal guidance and provide a supportive community for surrogates and intended parents alike.
Surrogacy Agency in Montreal: Montreal-based agencies provide bilingual support and offer a range of services, including surrogate matching, legal aid, and post-birth support. Montreal’s agencies may also have connections with U.S.-based partners, offering additional flexibility for LGBT parents.
Tumblr media
How to Find the Right Surrogate
The process of matching with a surrogate is one of the most important steps. Here are factors to consider:
Compatibility
Finding a surrogate who shares similar values and expectations can create a positive experience. Open communication about the process, medical appointments, and involvement is essential.
Location
Working with a surrogate within your province or a nearby location can simplify logistics and reduce travel-related stress.
Health and Medical History
A surrogate’s health history is vital to ensuring a safe pregnancy. Agencies often perform health screenings, but intended parents may want to review additional health background details.
Emotional Stability
Surrogacy is a unique experience, and finding a surrogate who is emotionally prepared for this journey is crucial.
Benefits of Working with an Agency
Agencies play a central role in guiding intended parents through each stage of surrogacy. Here’s how they support LGBT families:
Legal Support: Agencies assist with legal contracts and ensure all documents comply with Canadian laws.
Screening and Matching: Agencies help screen surrogates and find the right match for the intended parents.
Counseling Services: Emotional support is often available through agencies, both for surrogates and intended parents, helping them navigate the surrogacy process with confidence.
Medical Coordination: Agencies work closely with fertility clinics, coordinating appointments and handling medical arrangements.
Important Considerations: Surrogacy Laws in Canada
Canada has strict surrogacy regulations, as commercial surrogacy is not allowed. Surrogates can only be compensated for specific expenses, making it crucial for intended parents to be aware of what is legally permissible. Working with an experienced agency in Calgary, Vancouver, or Montreal ensures that all steps are compliant with local laws and protects both the surrogate and intended parents.
Costs Involved in Surrogacy
Although Canada’s surrogacy costs are typically lower than in the United States, the process can still be expensive. Costs include:
Agency Fees: Agencies charge fees for their services, including surrogate matching and counseling.
Medical Costs: IVF procedures, medical exams, and hospital visits are typically covered by the intended parents.
Legal Fees: Hiring a lawyer to draft and review contracts is essential for protecting the rights of both parties.
Miscellaneous Expenses: Additional costs, such as travel, pregnancy-related expenses for the surrogate, and other supportive services, may also apply.
Emotional Support for LGBT Parents
Surrogacy can be an emotional journey, and LGBT parents often face unique challenges. Many surrogacy agencies offer counseling services to support intended parents and help them process the emotional aspects of surrogacy. Additionally, support groups specifically for LGBT parents can provide a sense of community and understanding, as well as tips for handling questions or concerns from family and friends.

Types of Family Conflict: Why Do Families Fight?
Tumblr media
Conflict exists in all families. There will inevitably be occasional disagreement or argument between family members. Families fight over all kinds of issues, with most resolved internally. However, if there is a high amount and/or intensity of conflict, it can become hard to navigate. Other times, it can be a long-term on-going issue that has not been sufficiently addressed. In these situations, it may help to work with a therapist who specializes in working with families.
What are some types of common family conflicts?
Finances
One of the most common types of conflict within families revolves around finances. Financial instability can create a tremendous amount of stress on the family. A common example is when there is a loss of employment or in instances of long-term illness or disability.
Even when finances are sufficient, conflict can emerge regarding spending, saving and investing money.  As well. one or both parents may work a very demanding job with long hours and consequently spend less time with the family. Finding a work-life balance can be difficult for many people. However, making an effort to spend quality time and connect can be beneficial for the entire family. This is especially true for younger children, where having parental presence and strong familial bonds create an optimal environment for them to thrive.
Parenting
Between Parents
Parents can have different parenting styles. One parent may be the disciplinary one, while the other fills the more comforting role. Collaboration between parent and child counselling is key.  Parents who do not collaboratively work together may send mixed messages to their children. Children can become confused with different rules and expectations.
Between Parent and Child(ren)
Next, there are the conflicts that occur between a parent and their kids. It is not unusual for children will have disagreements with their parents throughout their whole life. With young children, parents are often setting rules and expectations to protect and nurture their children. As a child grows up, there is an increased need for independence. Parents who can balance discipline with affection have strong, healthy relationships with their children.
Co-Parents and Step-Parents
Parents who are separated and/or co-parenting may disagree over custody arrangements and what they think is best for their child. Sometimes, past unresolved conflict from their prior relationship will resurface. Furthermore, if either parent were to introduce a new partner, they may get some disapproval from their children. The relationship between step-parent and step-child can be challenging to navigate.
Siblings
It is not unusual for siblings to argue occasionally, especially those close in age. Siblings can fight for an endless amount of reasons. Most of the time, bickering may be harmless, but sometimes it can indicate a more serious issue. Siblings who feel like they have to consistently compete with each other can have a strained relationship.  One sibling may be jealous of something the other sibling has. In childhood, children will seek their parent’s attention and approval. If children can perceive that their parents treat their sibling(s) differently or favour one over another - this can intensify sibling conflict. Even well into adulthood, siblings can still hold negative sentiments towards one another.
Tumblr media
In-laws and Extended Family
When there are inappropriate boundaries, there is a higher potential for arguments. It can be difficult for you to get along with your partner’s parents and family members. As well, it can be equally as challenging being the partner who is stuck in between their partner and their own family members. These conflicts may occur as there are clashes in personalities, values and beliefs. While input from extended family members can be welcomed,  unsolicited advice or opinion may create tension within the family dynamic.
What are some tips on resolving family conflict?
Emotional Self-Awareness
It is being aware of your feelings, how they affect you, and how you express them. Our emotions can be an initiator and a reaction to conflict. Emotions can be intense and being able to regulate these emotions is essential to express them in a healthy manner. It can be difficult to express certain emotions and at the same time, emotions can overwhelm us. During conflicts, we can become flooded with many emotions that may impact our ability to resolve conflict in a constructive way. The ability needed to self-regulate emotions is usually much harder for children and adolescents. Even for adults, there are situations and circumstances where it can present as a challenge.  It is helpful for other family members to engage in a way that decreases distress. Some examples include: engaging in deep breathing,  gentle eye contact, neutralizing tone of voice and body language, physical touch (holding hand, hugging), words of reassurance and understanding.
Open Communication
Communication is essential in both preventing and resolving conflict.  Talking about a recent conflict can feel uncomfortable for everyone involved at first.  Reflecting on a past argument or problem as a family can lead to a better understanding of what each person needs when it comes to resolving and preventing conflicts.   Approaching the discussion with empathy and allowing everyone to communicate their perspective of the situation is a great place to start. Be honest with how you feel, and hold space for others to do the same. Listen to each other’s thoughts and feelings. Do your best to avoid placing judgment or blame. Overall,  talking it through can help identify how conflict initiates and what solutions would be the most feasible for everyone.

Resources
When I write a note to a parent or in response to some of the asks I’ve received, I will sometimes share a few links of resources or info. I’m sharing these for anyone to access or to share. These are not organized in any sort of order, but I’ll give a brief description of each one.
1)  The Ten Tips for Parents on mormonandgay are good. And since it’s from a church-sponsored site, members will accept this without much criticism.
2)  Listen Learn & Love is a website by Richard Ostler. He's a former bishop who has made loving LGBT Mormons his ministry. The site has links to many useful resources. In his podcast, Richard speaks to many queer people (some who are still in the LDS church and some who have moved on) and lets them tell their story. I think the podcast is very useful for queer members to hear people who went through, or are currently going through, things that they do. And for non-queer people, I think they’ll be moved by hearing the experiences & thoughts of queer people in their own words.
3)  I think the Family Acceptance Project’s pamphlet for LDS families is excellent. Basically it says to accept & love your kid.
4)  PFLAG has resources for families of LGBT individuals. They focus on supporting those in need, education & advocating to create a better world for LGBTQ+ people, friends, family & neighbors (and I’ve been really impressed with their Provo, UT office). PFLAG has chapters in many nations.
5)  This is a TedTalk that speaks to reasons why Nature creates homosexuals and includes some of the character traits of gay people compared to the general population.
6)  When I come across church members who think that homosexuality is a choice, I refer them to this document put together by Dr. Bill Bradshaw. He is a BYU researcher/professor and a former mission president. He summarizes the research showing the LGBTQ orientations are biologic, not a choice or caused by parenting or cultural influences.
7)  This is long, but is the best write up I’ve seen about the LDS church’s history on homosexuality while explaining what this is like for gay Mormons. Bryce Cook put this together and it was peer-reviewed and published. It does a good job in showing that change has happened, and we can expect more change to come.
8)    Taylor Petrey is a professor who in this presentation gives me many things to think about regarding gays & lesbians and Mormonism. He speaks about a post-heterosexual Mormon theology and points out how heterosexuality is not present in many LDS creation stories. He speaks like an academic, but is so thought provoking
9)  This is a simple to follow explanation of why temple sealings for gay couples makes sense. Useful for when members say that temple sealings for gay couples can NEVER be.
10)  Josh & Lolly Weed are the most famous example of a gay man & straight woman in a marriage. They have been very open about their experiences. This is the blog post where they announced their divorce. It is very illuminating and does a great job of explaining why this sort of marriage really doesn’t work for most gay people.
11)  This is dense, but it’s a listing of all sorts of queer people and relationships in Church history (we’ve been a part of the Church since the beginning). I think it’s fascinating to read about these people, the way they were treated and influence they had.
12)  This is a video about coming out, but from a very different point of view. It’s about coming out as straight, but I found it to be sweet and relatable.
13)  This is a humorous video about coming out as gay by Wanda Sykes
14)  Family Fellowship Support Group on Facebook is meant to help  Mormon moms & dads learn how to parent their gay child. It’s a closed group so only members of the group can see what’s posted.
15)  Transactive LDS is a private group for transgender individuals or family members.
16)  Carol Lynn Pearson is a Mormon who was married to a gay man. She’s the OG of LDS allies to the queer community. You may be familiar with some of their work like My Turn On Earth. She has written several books that are, in one way or another, about being gay in the church (Goodbye, I Love You; No More Goodbyes; and The Hero's Journey of Gay and Lesbian Mormons). Most famously she wrote the Primary song “I’ll Walk with You” and she was imagining singing this to gay children as she wrote it.
17)  Tom Christofferson, brother of the apostle D Todd Christofferson, is a gay man who came back to church and wrote a book titled That We May Be One: A Gay Mormon's Perspective on Faith and Family. He emphasizes the inclusion he received from his family, and from his ward when he wanted to come back. Here's an article summarizing parts of his story
18)  Affirmation is the oldest organization for LDS/post-LDS LGBTQ+ individuals, family and allies. They have multiple Facebook pages for people in different spots of their faith journey/in what way you’re queer/if you’re an ally or parent of a queer child.
19)   Dragon Dads is a closed Facebook group for Dads to gain support, process & support their children who are LGBTQ+ in healthy ways
20)   Mama Dragons is for moms of LGBTQIA kids, the purpose is to support healthy lives
21)   The Human Rights Campaign has an online booklet for LGBT Mormons
22)   Gay Mormon History is a site that lets people explore the history of LGBT issues in the LDS Church
23)   Elder Ballard said “We need to listen to and understand what our LGBT brothers and sisters are feeling and experiencing. Certainly, we must do better than we have done in the past so that all members feel they have a spiritual home where their brothers and sisters love them and where they have a place to worship and serve the Lord.” (BYU Question and Answer devotional from November 2017)
24)   In the best BYU devotional ever given on the subject, BYU professor Eric Huntsmans “Hard Sayings and Safe Spaces”
25)  Many LGBT members find themselves at the church schools. USGA & USGA-Rexburg are organizations where they can meet other queer people.
26)  Members of the LGBTQ community experience are at higher risk of committing suicide than the general public. The Trevor Project helps people ages 13-24. The National Suicide Prevention Hotline is available to anyone in the US. The Trans Lifeline is available in the US & Canada and it works to end transgender suicide and improve overall mental health of transgender people.
27)  Our Asexual & Aromantic church members have a closed Facebook group for them & their allies.
28)  Many LGBT people step away from the LDS church. The Thoughtful Transitions Support Group on Facebook is meant to a safe space for people to heal and grow
29)  If you or a loved one needs therapy, there’s several options. If they are a university student in the US, they likely can access services free-of-charge at their school. Another option is to check your insurance and find the mental health professionals in your area that are covered. Try contacting the psychology dept at a local university for leads on a good therapist, or perhaps they offer some counseling services to non-students. Some members of the LDS church feel more comfortable going to see a therapist who is also LDS or who is familiar with the church. The Mormon Mental Health Association has a listing of such therapists arranged by US state & Calgary, Canada.

Preparing for a Social Study during your divorce or child custody case
Tumblr media
If you have need a best suitable service your Child Law experience, Preparing for a Social Study during your divorce or child custody case with the great process! Houston Divorce Lawyers: In your divorce or child custody case you may be faced with a difference of opinion between yourself and your opposing party on who should have the right to determine the primary residence of your child. When it comes to child custody issues this is the most basic and important dispute that you and your child´s other parent could have. While you all may come to an agreement on how to settle this issue down the road in your case, as of now you are faced with the prospect of a longer than average case length and the possibility of having to rely on your judge to decide the case. If either of these eventualities could be avoided that would be for the best but in some situations you cannot do so. A social study evaluation will occur in almost every situation where you and your opposing party disagree on this subject. When conservatorship, possession and/or access to your child are in dispute then a social study will likely be ordered by your judge. Today´s blog post from the Law Office of Bryan Fagan, PLLC will discuss what a social study is, how it will impact your case and its possible effects on the outcome of the legal matter that you are engaged in. What does the law in Texas say about social studies? The Texas Family Code contains the state law on family law cases like the one that you are going through. This includes subjects related to social studies. The key thing to understand about social studies is at their conclusion the person who conducts the study will make a recommendation to the judge regarding which parent should have the right to designate and determine the primary residence of your child. While not every case will hinge on what the social study recommendation is, many cases will. Knowing what to expect could mean the difference between you reaching your goals and falling short. How long can a social study last? From my experiences a social study can last anywhere from six months to a year and a half in length. Interviews are conducted during the course of the social study of you, your child´s other parent, and any other persons that are relevant to your case. Your child will be interviewed where age appropriate with you and your opposing party. A solo interview of the person conducting the study with your child occur as well. You will be asked, along with your child´s other parent, to provide the social study evaluator with a list of references can be contacted in regard to your parenting skills and history. The interviewer will ask your references for an explanation of their history with you as a parent and their judgments of you regarding your involvement with your child. School teachers, counselors, physicians and other people in your child´s life may be interviewed as well. When an evaluation is complete what happens next? Family Law Attorney Houston: When all interviews and inspections of your home have been completed the evaluator will have everything that he or she needs to begin writing a report for the judge in your case. That report will detail their findings and will explain the recommendation regarding which parent should win the right to determine the primary residence of your child. Other recommendations that are commonly made involve whether or not a geographic restriction should be put in place that limits where your child can live as well as a finding regarding visitation schedules for the parent who does not win the right to determine your child´s primary residence. I will reiterate that the judge does not have to listen only to the recommendations made in the report that the social study evaluator creates. In fact, it would be a rare instance where your judge only relies on the recommendations when it is all said and done. With that said, the social study evaluator was likely chosen by the judge and that means that he or she must feel strongly that the opinions of this person are worth considering. With that said the social study is something to take very seriously even if it is not necessarily issue determinative. When is a social study begun in your case? Houston Divorce Attorney: A social study is usually ordered to begin at the conclusion of a temporary orders hearing. If you are involved in a contested child custody case it is likely that you have to go to a temporary orders hearing to decide this issue. The same can be said of a divorce (in addition to any property issues that need to be resolved on a temporary basis). A judge will give you and the opposing party an opportunity to agree to what person will conduct the study but if you cannot agree one will be appointed by the judge. Who will conduct the social study in your case? Therapists, counselors and people with mental health backgrounds are typically the sorts of people who are appointed to conduct social studies in family law cases. Licensed social workers, psychiatrists and psychologists typically fit the bill in this regard. Once you find out who the social study evaluator will be look into their professional history on the internet. If you do not believe that the person has the minimum qualifications to do the job you need to contact your attorney. At the very least your attorney can speak to you about the person´s resume or can raise their being appointed in a hearing with opposing counsel, the judge and the social study evaluator. What to expect when you are interviewed in the social study As I mentioned a moment ago you will be interviewed during the social study along with your child´s other parent. Your child will also be interviewed by themselves as well as with you and your opposing party in groups of two. In order so that coaching cannot occur all of these interviews will likely take place on the same day. The social study evaluator will want to learn how you relate to your child and vice versa. It is helpful to be able to learn this information outside of the distractions of other people and things. Preparation for these interviews is important.   If you beloved this article and also you would like to collect more info with regards to divorce law firm Calgary please visit the web site. Even if you consider yourself to be a great, involved parent you will likely encounter questions and subject matter that you never really consider in your day to day life. In order to provide answers that address the concerns of the social study evaluator you will want to work with your attorney beforehand so that you can fully prepare. Whatever parenting skills you have will be on display during this interview. A lot of people have told me over the years that the social study interview feels forced or unnatural. I can´t necessarily disagree with these folks, but I would argue the whole premise of a family law case feels unnatural and hard to stomach a lot of times. With that said, this is the position that you are in and it is recommended that you enter the process fully prepared.

How To Get A Good Night's Sleep
No, I have never heard of Santosha or Niyama, but I suppose you want to tell me all about it. And were the consequence of not finding that deep-rooted desire to want to change in the first place. It can also help to place a small pillow under your knees for extra back support. Tensions at the work place and other personal problems may cause depression which can also lead to male infertility. By talking to a professional, a person will be helping themselves in the long run because they will become better able to deal with their problems in the future. There are many simple approaches on how to address insomnia, and this will not even require the person to take medication. 2. Take Care of Yourself Physically-Give your body every advantage to stay in top condition. It's injuries that have stopped hundreds of professional body builders to quit on their programs, injuries that have caused untold suffering to many enduring body builders and injuries that have frustrated the dreams of many armature body builders. Best reaction: Thank them and refuse to have any of them. 2. People smoke because they have created an unconscious association between an activity or environment and a cigarette. You can't drop your dream just because you are facing some difficulties from people around you with good intentions. 2. Salad is a critical part of a good diet because of the added fiber which promotes good, healthy bowel movements. Furthermore, it may take a much greater effort on the parents' part to help their child with this disorder. As I'm just as guilty of trying tricks and dangles as you are, I'll take heed of my own advice and start to focus more on making the fundamentals second nature. These methods will not only make you feel more peaceful overall, they will send you into a deep, natural sleep. The moisturizer is more effective when applied to a skin that is damp. If the high cost of visits to a reputable hypnotherapit are out of your reach, it's possible to obtain high quality hypnosis and NLP CD's that can work just as well as an office visit, and maybe even better. The principle slogan your interior creative designers is always to work strongly using Calgary consumer to formulate layout remedies that are innovative, functional, and in reasonably priced premiums. A team of experts will initially assess the work that they need to do. Consuming a lean protein along with healthy fats and fiber at each meal, and eating each meal 3-4 hours apart BEFORE you have a chance to feel hungry again, will cover the satiety aspect. It is important to note, though, that they will only give you temporary relief. Make it a point that you check the list of ingredients and avoid the products that have fragrance. The ingredients are quite necessary for the safety and efficiency of the lotion. For this reason, people who are in the process of quitting smoking may benefit from counseling or a support group for smokers. Try to avoid people that smoke, at least for a while. While this may sound simplistic it is very practical for those individuals who are genuinely interested in shedding unwanted pounds. For those who cannot consume milk products due to lactose intolerance choose lactose free alternatives to get your calcium such as cheese, yogurt, and lactose-free milk. Get your Direct Kamagra Tablets Now, Fast Next Day delivery, long expiring dates, drugstore online 100% Anonymously and discreet shipping. 2- Importance of internet in the contemporary fast paced society. Once I was in LA, the question switched to how do I get out of comics so I can move into other areas. If you cut down on the calories but still get the right balance right between protein, carbs, and fats; you can just get lean and healthy. Sleep disorders can be caused by many different things. Taking Echinacea at the first sign of a cold can thwart the worst of it.
