i’m sure it’s been pointed out before, but luffy’s post-wano bounty is exactly one hundred times greater than his starting bounty of 30,000,000 from the end of the east blue saga. or to put it another way, luffy’s starting bounty (at the time noted as being very high for the east blue) was one percent of his current bounty.

rayleigh protecting zoro at sabaody from an attack by kizaru, ch 511

luffy protecting law from an attack by doflamingo, with same move as rayleigh above, dressrosa ch 782

at the end of wano, ch 1055, shanks telling ryokugyu a similar thing as rayleigh above ("don't pick the buds before they sprout. their era is only just the beginning"),

shanks "when the new shoots that just changed pirating history are exhausted, (..) are you that afraid of the new era?!"

same page as luffy protecting law - with haki clashing against doflamingo, the panels after that talking about supreme king haki - qualities of a king,. in this context for doflamingo, ch 782

at amazon lily ppl reacting to luffy using supreme king haki, while he doesn't know he just did, ch. 519. "that's the haki of the chosen ones' only one in millions has that spirit!"

vs, zoro unknowingly unleashing haki of supreme king for (possibly) the first time, ch 997

and later during his rooftop fight against kaido, (and still denies/ doesn't know what they're talking about, which is very interesting). ch 1010

then during his fight with King, unleashing haki, which makes others around fall unconscious (as mentioned above to doflamingo is a sign of supreme king haki), ch 1033

and some more chapters later, claiming the title of King of Hell (funny in this context it was told to doflamingo he was chosen by the heavens, and for zoro he became the king of hell. smth smth about the character work there).,

then there's the asura figure surrounding zoro's powers,

and i find it so interesting that on wikipedia about asura (which zoro's sword and fighting styles are also based on with hindu and buddhist religions) is mentioned they're "considered enemy of the gods"

i like how it's the same phrase as we also heard in the manga before form law's flashbacks about corazon, ch 764

this is in the context of the people with the D. name, and then mostly used for law himself, and luffy and how far he's come to truly wreck the world government, as well as them being a threat to the celestial dragons.

luffy and nika:

from point above, i like how the "enemy of gods" being applied to people with the name D. is also interesting in the context of luffy awakening his devil fruit powers, which are named sun god nika. (i know that in the phrase "enemy of gods" mean gods as the celestial dragons, but it's still interesting)

which doesn't take away from luffy's character as i was a bit worried at first.

he's testing the new skills and powers, and he sees how he can reach the new limits he couldn't before. it might have been the devil fruit that chose who would eat it, but it's luffy and his dream that make the decisons., ch 1045

and ch 1049

luffy in ch 507 & 1053, his core ideals are still the same

jaya arc, luffy and zoro not fighting against bellamy, and nami not understanding at first, ch 225

and ch 1054, momonosuke telling yamato not to fight the navy guy because he wants to be able to protect wano, and let yamato go to the seas as he wants to - it's just that similar energy that luffy has when he tells someone not to fight (or when to fight), without almost any explanations.

also loved this usopp moment!, - could be paralelled to his whole character arc. ch 1036.

he's so real for saying this to kin and kiku (and samurai in general). he's always scared and sometimes can be acting like a coward, but he always, always, stands up for his crew and fights to live through whatever hell luffy puts in front of them.

Etho lay back against the pillow, and his white hair spread out unevenly around him, crunching up against the fluff of his coat and tickling his ears like the dead petals of some winter bloom. His mask was down and off his face, but its choking grip felt like just a distant memory on his throat as he stared up at the ceiling.

Cobblestone and spruce wood, it was almost the most basic thing he could think of, but in this awful game, it was home. A cold home, sure, with walls of ice and snow in most parts of the fort, but home nonetheless. Or, at least, it had been.

Now, Bdubs was gone, and those cold cold walls felt colder than ever without the warmth of his love. Etho’s eyes stung as salty tears pricked at the corners of them, but his arms were still frozen at his sides. He couldn’t force himself to wipe away the tears.

He took in a shaky breath as the cloud of bloodlust spurred his emotions on and on. They’d come back from their deaths after the last “game,” but would they this time? Would he ever see Bdubs again? He’d had a chance to save him, why couldn’t he have done it when he’d had the chance? A simple pledge of a life, far simpler even than love, how could he have been so greedy?!

Like it always did in this awful game, the scar on his cheek burned, but the flow of tears made it hurt even more. If Bdubs were still here, he could have made him feel better. Bdubs would have traced along those scars. He would have drawn hearts, stars, and flowers with paint and dye. He’d have kissed his face. He’d have held his hand. He'd have whispered stories and memories into his ears. He’d have wiped the dreadful drip of red life blood.

Touching his scars should have hurt in this game, but it never had when Bdubs had done it. It had only ever been heartwarmingly loving. But now he was gone, and Etho’s agony stabbed through him even more. He curled his claws into his hands and his fangs sparked off the torchlight as his mouth yawned open in a sob.

Now he was in his red life, and that beautifully cared for scar dripped red blood into his pillow once more. 

Bdubs was gone, maybe for good, but if Etho had just been a bit less selfish... If he'd have thought for even a second longer... They could have been together now, cuddling on his half cold bed, even as the rage of bloodlust burned in their eyes.

He regretted sending Bdubs away when he had first turned red. He regretted being so careless with the lives. He regretted not actually telling Bdubs those words, those words that meant I love you. He regretted not giving him his life when he could.

Oh why hadn't he done it?

Etho's scar burned, and his hand finally shot up to claw at his face, digging into the bleeding wound and tearing it open even further in a useless effort to stop the pain. He cried, and cried, and the blood leaked into his coat, his hair, and the pillow, staining the snow white surfaces a gorey red.

There was nothing he could do now but join him, was there. (Etho was so aware of that truth that it wasn't even a question anymore.)

“Oh no,” he moaned, sitting up and burying his face in his hands, “Why, why...”

He didn't want to have those kinds of thoughts, not now, not ever. He knew that, if he were still here, Bdubs would not have wanted him to be thinking that way. He knew that he would have kissed him on the forehead in that adorable dorky way and told him that everything was going to be okay. Just because it was a death game didn't mean they had to follow the rules, right? Just because the awful curse had chosen them once more didn't mean they couldn't save themselves from the ending, right? Bdubs loved him, he cared, he would have made everything better.

But Etho knew he wasn't there. He knew he was never going to be there again. He was gone like an autumn breeze in winter, gone like a falling feather in a hailstorm, gone like the stars in some polluted city sky.

He wasn't coming back.

Etho knew that.

He didn't want to, but he knew that.

He sat up, numbly swinging his legs over the side of the bed, just as he would have when Bdubs was still here. He stood slowly, and his ankle creaked like he was some old warrior waking up for another battle (which, he supposed, he was.)

He couldn't stay in this house much longer, not when it brought back memories like those that seemed to seep out from his scar, spider webbing across his face from how he had lay on the bed and dripping even into his ear when he stood. Memories and blood, what was the difference anymore. Both potent, both overpowering, both a sign of pain.

Maybe, as he whispered to himself, he didn't want to remember, but he knew that wasn't very likely.

How could he forget that gift that had been life with his love? How could he forget the amazing times they had spent together, even in a cursed land such as this?

Just because their very biology was infested by curses didn't mean they weren't still friends. Just because bloodlust clouded their eyes didn't mean that they had been any less in love with each other.

Etho had been willing to win this game together, never dying, never losing. He'd been willing to win for Bdubs too, some weak sort of apology for failing to help him, he supposed, but now...

Now he knew it wasn't enough.

He needed Bdubs.

He understood what Grian had done at the end of the last game now. He understood the way that awful guilt twisted your mind. Winning for Bdubs wasn't enough. He had to end it.

Etho slammed open the door.

"So?" Emily said expectantly and, perhaps, hopefully. She already knew it wasn't good news, based on Tara's expression and the churning feeling of dread in her gut. But she just hoped it wasn't quite as grim as she feared...

Tara glanced over her shoulder at Alex's room where she was attempting to breastfeed Lindy, making sure that she wasn't trying to eavesdrop on their conversation...though she likely had already intuited everything they were going to say. Looking back at Emily, she offered an apologetic smile (that was really more of a grimace). "It's not good, Em," she admitted quietly.

Emily nodded, attempted an expression that she hoped looked stronger and more capable than she felt just then. Though, to be perfectly honest, she had a feeling Tara already knew just how frayed the thread she was hanging on by was...afterall, she'd always had an unfortunate habit of reading Emily like the open book she tried very hard not to be.

"I'll want to run some tests to rule out other causes, but I feel quite confident in diagnosing Alex as having postpartum psychosis," Tara informed her.

"Shit..." Emily said on an exhale, her expansive vocabulary failing her in that moment. While she'd feared the worst, this hadn't even been on her radar as being a possibility. She knew what it was, of course – it had been mentioned in the numerous What to Expect... type books Alex had made her read, but she'd ignorantly assumed that would never happen to them and thus had barely even skimmed the sections.

Tara reached over and rested a consoling hand on her shoulder. It was a friendly gesture, but Emily couldn't help but feel a little patronized. "I know it's not the news you were hoping for, but it is treatable." A beat. "That's the good news..."

Emily's eyes went wide. "What part of that was good news?" she asked. The words came off significantly more scathing than she'd intended them to be and she briefly thought about apologizing for her tone, but found that she really didn't want to apologize. If anything, she wanted to blame and punish...

Tara's expression was apologetic, then, as if she knew what was running through Emily's mind. "Em, I'm sorry to tell you this, but I think it would be best for everyone if Alex were admitted to the psychiatric ward," she said quietly. It was clear she hated having to say it, especially to one of her best friends, but knew it had to be said.

"You want to put my wife – the mother of a newborn – on the psych ward?" Emily repeated incredulously.

"Emily," Tara said very seriously, "The alternative is you taking Alex home, in which case you will literally have to supervise her every second of every day. You can't leave her alone with Lindy. She is a risk to herself and others. I know you love her and want what's best for her, but – and I mean this in the nicest way possible – you cannot do this alone..."

Before she'd really thought it through, Emily was already speaking, "I won't do it alone, then. But I'm not putting her in the looney bin." She'd truly never before in her life been quite this angry. She knew it wasn't Tara's fault, that she was just trying to help, but she didn't have anyone else to blame – the alternative was blaming Alex and she couldn't even begin to fathom being angry with her over this...

"Em..." Tara tried again.

But she wasn't listening. "I'll do whatever it takes to keep her at home," she vowed. She turned and was about to march off...but then she seemed to think better and turned back around, narrowing a glare at Tara. Pointing an accusing finger at her, she snapped, "You know, you're supposed to be my friend..."

"Emily, I am your friend," she insisted.

"No, you're not," she said adamantly, "If you were, you'd actually want to help instead of locking her up like some kind of fucking animal! I can't believe I ever trusted you..."

And, though Emily was expecting Tara to lash out right back, she surprised her by saying, "What else?"

A beat.

"What?"

"What else?" Tara repeated. "You've clearly had a lot on your mind – get it off your chest. Really sock it to me."

Emily seemed confused, then. "You... You want me to yell at you?"

"Yes!" Tara insisted. "You obviously need to yell at someone – you're overwhelmed, overworked, and scared shitless – you're not going to take it out on Alex, so take it out on me."

She sighed, shook her head. "I'm not going to yell at you," she said, sounding as if all the fight had left her, leaving behind only exhaustion.

Tara could tell part of her still wanted to, but the Ambassador's influence was far too strong to let her make a scene like that. "Well," she said, sounding just a little disappointed, "When you eventually realize you're at your boiling point, call me."

"I suppose you're here to tell me you're going to commit me?" Alex asked acerbically when Emily joined her in her room.

Trying not to take her bitterness to heart, Emily gently eased the baby from her hands and settled her in the stroller. "Get your coat, Al," she said, "We're going home."

"Really?" Alex asked, sounding completely and utterly shocked. Never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, she was quick to jump to her feet and follow Emily towards the exit. "What did Tara say?" she wanted to know, jogging slightly to keep up with Emily's brisk pace.

Emily scowled. "She thinks you have postpartum psychosis," she said.

Alex frowned at the odd emphasis. "She thinks?" she echoed curiously. "You have a different opinion?"

"Maybe not a different opinion," she said, "But I disagree with her methods."

Her frown deepening, Alex asked, "So, your plan is...what?"

"I don't know yet," she admitted, "But it sure as fuck isn't locking you up."
