Does LASIK ensure no need for glasses or contacts?
Tumblr media
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) surgery is highly effective at correcting refractive vision problems such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. However, there are several factors that influence the outcome of LASIK and whether it can completely eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses:
1. Initial Prescription: The degree of your refractive error or prescription plays a crucial role. LASIK is more effective in providing glasses or contact lens independence for mild to moderate prescriptions. Higher prescriptions may achieve a significant reduction in dependency but might not eliminate the need entirely.
2. Eye Health: The overall health of your eyes is important. Certain eye conditions or health issues may affect the success of LASIK. An experienced LASIK surgeon will assess your eye health to determine your candidacy.
3. Age: The age of the patient can also influence the outcome. For instance, people over the age of 40 may still require reading glasses (presbyopia) after LASIK because it doesn't directly address this age-related vision issue.
4. Stability of Vision: LASIK is most effective when your vision prescription has remained stable for at least a year. If your prescription is still changing, it may not be the right time for LASIK.
5. Individual Variability: Every person's eyes are unique, and the healing process after LASIK can vary. Some individuals may achieve 20/20 vision or better, while others may still have some residual refractive error that requires correction.
6. Post-Surgery Care: Following post-operative care instructions from your surgeon is crucial. Failure to do so can affect the final outcome of the procedure.
In summary, while LASIK can significantly reduce or eliminate your need for glasses or contact lenses, it cannot guarantee 100% freedom from them for everyone. The extent of vision correction and the need for corrective eyewear after LASIK can vary from person to person.
Before deciding on LASIK, it's essential to consult with an experienced eye surgeon Dr. Sonia Maheshwari ,Eye Specialist in Vidyavihar who can assess your individual situation and provide realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure at Clear Sight Eye care and Laser Center.

Is Cataract Surgery Safe To Do During Covid? - By Dr. Jatin Ashar - Mumbaieyecare
Introduction
In a cataract, the vision of the eyes become blurry due to the opacification of the lens. A cataract is a second major cause of visual impairment and preventable blindness. Cataract surgery is one of the most common procedures to improve vision and prevent blindness across the world.
Average monthly cataract surgeries performed in India are over 5 lakhs. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, sudden cancellation in surgical procedures has created significant backlogs in cataract surgery.
Does Cataract Surgery Had A Risk Of Covid-19 Exposure?
It is necessary to understand how the coronavirus can infect you. A virus can infect you in two ways. One way is by inhaling the aerosols produced during coughing or sneezing by an infected person. Another way of spreading the virus is when a person touches the nose, eyes or mouth with infected hands. Wearing masks, avoiding touching the face and practising hand hygiene can lower the risk of contracting COVID-19.
In cataract surgery, there is no or minimal aerosol production. The patient’s face is covered with a sterile drape during the surgery. Further, the surgeons take all the precautions as per the surgical protocol of COVID-19, such as wearing personal protective equipment. The surgery takes around 10-15 minutes, and thus, the exposure time to acquire infection is low. Hence, the risk of getting infected through the covid 19 viruses is less during surgery.
When To Have Cataract Surgery In Current Pandemic
A cataract is a progressive condition that means the clouding of your lens will increase over time. The surgery depends on the functional level of the lens. Unless the vision of the patients gets severely compromised, delaying surgery has no increment in risk. Your doctor will evaluate the condition of your lens in context with your risk that may occur due to your daily activities such as driving, reading and cooking.
The doctor will keep an eye on your complete vision examination and decide how much a surgeon can restore the vision by removing the cataract. In some cases, delaying the cataract may result in permanent blindness. Take the advice of an expert ophthalmologist in your area.
People can delay cataract surgery by wearing sunglasses to prevent eyes from ultraviolet rays. The patient should stop smoking and start consuming green vegetables, fruits and food that have antioxidant properties. A person should have controlled diabetes and Blood pressure. A regular eye examination can also help to avoid surgery during the covid 19 pandemics.
Measures To Follow While Taking Cataract Treatment
You should always follow the COVID-19 precautionary measures, i.e., at the doctor’s clinic and before and after the cataract surgery. You may also have the option for telemedicine to consult with your doctor.
At the doctor’s clinic
The patient should fix an appointment for a consultation to reduce the time for waiting. He should wear a mask and gloves to prevent physical contact to any surface in the clinic. The patient should use digital payment modes to avoid unnecessary physical contact. He should avoid talking to other patients. Reduce the baggage to the clinic prevents exposure to the infected surface. The patient should maintain social distancing while seated in the clinic. After surgery, the patient can consult with a professional through telemedicine to reduce the chance of getting infected.
Before and after the cataract surgery
The patient should wear a mask before entering the diagnostic room. He should use a hand sanitiser provided by the hospital. Its use is compulsory for both patient and health care worker. Only one patient should allow along with an attendee into the diagnostic room. Cleaning of all instruments in the diagnostic area is necessary before the surgery. The patient is advised not to touch any surface of the premises.
Option for telemedicine
Telemedicine is an excellent option to maintain social distancing and seeking advice from an ophthalmologist. It results in decreasing physical contact and reduces cross-infection among patients and health care personnel. It reduces unnecessary gatherings and reduces the risk of infection.
Conclusion
Cataract surgery is elective surgery. However, sometimes, the prolonged, untreated cataract may result in compromised vision. Cataract surgery, if done will all the COVID-19 safety protocols, is safe, and there are very minimal chances of spreading infection. Patients should consult over the phone with the ophthalmologist, whenever possible,  to reduce the risk of COVID-19. Patient after cataract surgery should avoid contact with other people and minimize travel.

Cataract Surgery In Ghatkopar and Cataract Treatment In Ghatkopar From Eye Specialist in Ghatkopar - Dr. Jatin Ashar
Cataract Surgery In Ghatkopar
Cataract surgery is replacing the faulty lens with an artificial lens. It’s a common and safe procedure done by ophthalmologist when you are having cloudy vision. Decision to undergo cataract surgery depends on the level of difficulty; a patient is facing on daily routine activities.
What is Cataract?
Cataract is progressive in nature and develops with time you grow older. Cataract affects most of people and becomes prominent with age. It can be described as blurry, cloudy or opaque vision. Natural eye lens focuses light on the retina to form clear and undistorted image. Clouding of this lens results in blurred and distorted image. It commonly affects both eyes but in few cases one eye cataract might advances rapidly. If not treated on time, may result is complete loss of sight.
Causes of Cataract
Cataract can be seen in children as a hereditary defect, while eye trauma, smoking, diabetes, excessive use of alcohol, prolonged exposure of sunlight or ultraviolet rays, extended use of corticosteroids are few causes of cataract occurring in elderly people.
Eye Examination
Cataracts can be diagnosed with simple eye exam. The eye exam contains a vision test and an examination of your eyes using a slit lamp microscope. The pupils are dilated with special eye drops to provide a better view of the back of the eye, where the retina and optic nerve are located.
Symptoms of cataract
Ask yourself few questions
Do you feel difficulty in seeing at night?
Is reading or watching television becoming difficult for you?
Driving at night or seeing in bright light has become difficult?
Do you need assistance for finding ways while walking, cooking, shopping or daily activities of your visi
Are you opting for alternate ways to substitute your vision problems?
Glare or sensitivity to light is another symptom of cataract. Diplopia or double vision is also seen in cataract patients. It also affects color vision, leading to yellowish or brownish tint to your eyesight. Patients often need frequent changes in their eyeglasses.

On the day of surgery, it’s recommended not to eat for 12 hours before surgery.

A Complete Blade Free Procedure
Laser precise predictable outcomes
Enhanced Safety
Customized Procedure
Phacoemulsification: It is a simple procedure of less than 1 hour duration. Local anesthesia or sedation makes it painless for the patient. A tiny incision is made in front of eye with laser and inserts a pen-shaped probe to break the cloudy lens into pieces. This process is phacoemulsification. Suction then removes the pieces and surgeon places an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). Lens can be made of plastic, silicone or acrylic. There are varieties of lens available for implantation as per the patient requirements like Monofocal, Toric and Multifocal intraocular lenses.
Itracapsular cataract surgery: Its rare nowadays, this technique needs larger incision and along with cataract surrounding capsule is also removed. Intraocular lens is placed in front of iris in this procedure.
