Neil Teodoro Emeritus/Nihil Emeritus/Papa Nihil March 19, 1941-March 3, 2020 Born in Italy, moved to the US with his mother when he was too young to remember. Estranged from his father who was a previous Papa. Brought back to the Ministry when he was an adult by Sister Imperator. Leader of Ghost from mid-1960s to late 1970s. Has four kids (possibly five if we're including RHRN spoilers)

Elizabeth "Betty" Liliana Emeritus/Sister Elizabeth January 5, 1921-TBA Born in Italy, had a relationship with a Papa during the time. Ended up having a son with him. She and her son Neil ended up moving to the US when her ex didn't want to be in their lives anymore. Picrew:

Has had an on-and-off relationship with Papa Nihil throughout the years. Secret mother to Copia. Involved with Ghost for years. Had Primo, Secondo, and Terzo killed.

Copia Abate/Cardinal Copia/Papa Copia/Frater Imperator July 7, 1979- Grew up in Italy at the Ministry as a supposed orphan. Saw Primo, Secondo, and Terzo as his brother figures. Saw Sister Imperator as a mother figure. Didn't know Sister Imperator and Papa Nihil were his parents until semi-recently. In a relationship (eventually) with Silas Petersson. Leader of Ghost from March 2018-2023. Promoted to Sister's position once she passed, under the title of Frater Imperator. Only has a last name for legal reasons given to him by the Clergy and it's just Abate (From Italian abate meaning "abbot, priest")

Sapphic Film Recs

So you read some books, now you want to watch some movies. Not all of these center F/F relationships, but they all include F/F or WLW characters. (Note: Mind your trigger warnings if you decide to watch any of these.)

Atomic Blonde (2017) - Lorraine is a British spy sent into Berlin right at the end of the Cold War to retrieve a list of agents that is at risk of falling into Soviet hands. While there, she makes contact with the French agent, Delphine.

Badhaai Do (2022) - A lesbian gym teacher and a gay cop in India decide to get married to get their families off their backs. Hijinks ensue.

Black Swan (2010) - Nina is an ambitious, competitive young ballerina who is cast as the swan queen in Swan Lake, but the pressure of the position starts to get to her.

Breathe (Respire) (2014) - A French film centering on the deeply charged relationship between two teenage girls and its violent ups and downs.

Carol (2015) - The classic sapphic Christmas film, isn’t it? In the 1950s, directionless young Therese encounters Carol, a stylish, wealthy woman in the middle of divorcing her husband.

Elisa and Marcela (Elisa y Marcela) (2019) - Based on a true story about a Spanish woman who created a male identity for herself to marry her girlfriend.

Fingersmith (2005) - The two-part miniseries based on the book by Sarah Waters. It tracks very closely with the novel! Susan Tinder sets out to befriend and rob wealthy heiress Maude--but gets more than she planned for when she starts falling for her mark.

Fried Green Tomatoes (1991) - The movie eschews the explicit romance between the two main characters present in the book, but the love between them still shines through. An elderly woman relates to her younger visitor stories about Idgie and Ruth, a couple of women in love in 1920s Alabama.

Genius Loci (2020) - A trippy short film about Reine, a struggling young woman who has a discombobulating night out in her city.

The Half of It (2020) - Here’s your teenage drama film, drawing from Cyrano de Bergerac. Ellie agrees to help a boy in her school write love letters to his female crush--who happens to also be Ellie’s crush. 

The Handmaiden (2017) - Basically an AU of Fingersmith, this time the story takes place in WWII-era Korea and Japan. Young thief Sookhee enters the service of Lady Hideko as a handmaiden with the intent of robbing her of her fortune--but things get complicated when Sookhee develops feelings for Hideko.

Pariah (2011) - A gay Brooklyn teenager struggles with understanding her identity in an unwelcoming household and fights to grow into her true self.

Pistachio (2021) - A short animated film about having a crush on a straight friend and being bisexual. (Available here on Youtube)

Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019) - Marianne is a portraitist called to paint Heloise before her upcoming wedding. While Marianne tries to get close to Heloise in order to capture her essence, she finds herself falling in love.

Princess Cyd (2017) - Teenage Cyd takes the opportunity to spend several weeks over the summer with her novelist aunt, Miranda. Over the course of the summer, Cyd discovers a lot of new things about the world and herself.

Rafiki (2018) - Two daughters of rival politicians fall in love, but struggle with the attitudes of their community in Nairobi.

okay so the basic premise: obviously it’s inspired by the 2015 film Carol. but i would say it’s more inspired by than like fully based on/a full on Carol AU. it’s more a 1950s AU with heavy Carol inspiration?? if that makes sense

But similar to Carol, Harley is married to a shitty husband (The Joker) and has a child with him (Lucy). She’s a housewife and she meets Ivy when she’s out shopping. Ivy does something with florals or gardening for sure. She’s maybe the owner of or clerk at a Florist/Floral department. And Harley runs into her buying flowers for Joker or smth like that and the two instantly connects. In classic Carol and meet cute fashion Harley leaves behind her gloves and Ivy uses the information left with her order to contact her. The two start seeing each other more regularly and eventually (way down the line because hello slow burn) the two act on their feelings for each other.

Harley is also planning to divorce Joker bc he’s a POS. But she’s also scared because she really loves Lucy and Joker is threatening to take custody of her just to hurt and manipulate her. And Harley is trying to hide her relationship with Ivy because she’s afraid Joker will use it against her and she also doesn’t want Joker to find out and ruin Ivy’s life out of spite.

And this is where it divulges from Carol because I was thinking that Harley and Ivy might plot Joker’s murder (🫣) because he’s an abusive asshole. Or maybe they just plan to take Lucy and run away together. Or maybe they just find a way for Harley to win the legal battle. I’m still not 100% certain on what I would want to go with.

And yeah in terms of character archetypes Harley is kind of both Carol and Therese. And Ivy is also both Carol and Therese lol. Harley is like Carol as the married woman and mother but is more like Therese in terms of vibes and relationship dynamic. Ivy is like Therese in that she’s the clerk with dreams of doing more with her life who falls for the married woman. But I definitely see Ivy with more of the vibes of Carol in terms of the more confident and experienced one. And like-

tell me this wouldn’t be ivy’s vibe????

but yeah basically a deeply angsty but also fluffy slowburn 1950s romance (with possible murder?)!

and i don’t know if any of this makes any sense but i hope you see the vision
