The Mount Rainier National Park Associates completed their first volunteer project of the year on Saturday April 27 at Carbon River. 21 volunteers spread gravel to fill in holes, cleared the beginning of the Chenuis Falls Trail, and prepared the Ranger Falls viewpoint for new railings. Thanks to these volunteers the trails are already safer and more accessible for 2024! Visit our website and click on the "Volunteer" link to find out how you can help with future projects.

Today we went out to the Carbon River near Carbonado, WA with my dad, step-mom, half-sister and half-sister’s boyfriend. A wonderful slice of Pacific Northwest wilderness.
Dad’s dog became obsessed with digging at the trunk of this one tree stump, and in that spot we found what some research has concluded to be a porcelain forestry insulator (for old telegraph or phone lines), sorry I did not get a good picture of it, but it is an interesting bit of tech from before my time worth noting—and a very unexpected find! I wonder if the tree held the insulator until it was cut down?
Nugget was far too interested in checking things out to pose for photos, but I got some anyways.

It’s National Take a Hike Day! While many of Mount Rainier National Park’s higher elevation trails are covered in snow, if you are prepared there are still options to get out for a hike. For easy trails with less chance of snow, try Twin Firs Trail or Trail of the Shadows in Longmire. Rampart Ridge Trail or the Wonderland Trail also start from Longmire but are longer trails that climb to higher elevations. Westside Road, near the Nisqually Entrance, is closed to vehicles, but the first three miles is a gentle walk through the forest to Dry Creek. Carbon River in the northwest corner of the park is also a great lower elevation area for hiking. No matter the trail, be prepared for quickly changing conditions and carry the 10 Essentials, including food and water: https://go.nps.gov/MORASafety.

River Aa Sword – Deepeeka
with a cross-guard and pommel crafted from steel and the wooden grip bound in spiralled leather. A robust peen over the pommel keeps the blade quite securely mounted within the hilt in the traditional manner. The sword is paired with a wooden scabbard which is overlaid in brown leather and completed with a steel locket and chape.

*GASP!!* Mysterious (kinda) new women from this post!
Meet Hondo's crush, Tabitha 'Tillie' Miller (cause hes a Tsundere) and Hugger's wife, River Oneida-Morin
Tillie is the eldest sister of Disco Kid, and a natural born performer. Much like her brother, she dedicates her life to her profession, however it keeps her away from the WVBA, so she isn't that familiar a face, especially to newcomers like Hondo. Though a little uptight, she's a beautiful girl with a heart of gold and voice like sweet, silky honey. Be careful, you'll melt right into her hands if you get too close, which Hondo seems to have done, not that he'll admit it. (Little Tsundere...)
River is a lot less elegant than the other wives of the WVBA, not being as good a cook and quite easily breaking anything she touches. However, what she lacks in grace she makes up for with strength and her creativity, every now and again making baskets from the Red Cedar trees that grow around her home. She met Hugger a few weeks after moving in and after an accident in a moving river, the two became quick friends and soon partners. She is a sweet soul and always trying her best, but also not afraid to get her husband on track when he gets a bit carried away with his work.
